Well, I had a good time training my pups this weekend. Laila May has went to a new home and will get hunted hard this season, and hopefully we will breed her in December or Jan. We are finally getting some relief from the heat and I'm gonna start getting these young hounds in the woods more.

WELL FOLKS IT WARMED BACK UP HERE IN THE SOUTH. PLUM MISERABLE FOR HUNTIN AT NIGHT.
I SAID THAT I WASN'T GOIN TO RAISE ANYMORE PUPS AND NOW I'M EATING MY WORDS. I MAY HAVE ONE OF MY SELECT FEMALES DUE TO COME IN AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. SHE HAS REALLY PROVEN HERSELF IN THE TIMBER. AND CAN PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN KEEPING MY KENNEL GOING STRONG.

I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE THAT WAS INVOLVED IN MAKING THE ARKANSAS STATE YOUTH HUNT & SHOW, A SUCCESS. WE ENJOYED IT THOUROUGHLY AND HAD A GREAT TIME.
MY DAUGHTER TORI, DID AN EXCELLENT JOB HANDLING GRCH.IKE'S BLACK JOE, IN THE SHOW. I'M VERY PROUD OF HER! WE DID NOT GET A WIN, BUT WE HAD A GREAT TIME.

Nothing like that first coon your pup trees by their selves! Ole HURRICANE KING CANE KONG (AKA CANE) got the job done last night. It wasn't a perty tree, but he treed it. He's still a little unsure of himself. I got him fired up though. The coon got him on the ears pretty good and it ticked him off so he'll remember that!

I had a great time as always at the East Arkansas coon club, (Gill, AR). Ike's Black Joe won King of Show. There was no other black and tans entered in the bench show, except for Kevin Herron and Super Sally.
C'mon folks, we got to do better than that!! It's not just all about the comp. hunting. I'm talking about a black and tan sectional with no dogs on the bench.
If you eliminate the bench shows completely, then you might as well be showing up at the hunt with a mixed breed dog to hunt, (said sarcastically). My explanation is simple: WHAT IS KEEPING THE STANDARD IN TACT FOR PURE BREDS? WHAT IS THE MEASURING STICK? PERFORMANCE IS ONE THING AND GENETICS AND APPEARANCE IS A MAINSTAY. You have to have both to have balance.

Be sure and take care of those hounds to make sure they got warm enough bedding, plenty of hay in them houses during this record breaking cold snap! I'm taking a timeout from coon hunting to do a little deer hunting and waiting on this full moon to quarter down.

NITE CH LARRY'S HURRICANE HAWKGONE WILL BE OFFICIALLY RETIRED AND NO LONGER A PERFORMANCE SIRE. I APPRECIATE ALL THE FRIENDS I'VE MADE ALONG HIS JOURNEY IN THE COMPETITION WORLD AND IN THE BREEDING PEN. I HOPE THAT ALL HIS PUPS WILL CONTINUE HIS LEGACY. I'VE HAD A FEW GOOD FRIENDS TELL ME I SHOULD OF PUSHED HIM HARDER IN THE BIGGER HUNTS. I DON'T COMPETITION HUNT MYSELF MUCH ANYMORE OR AT ALL FOR PERSONAL REASONS, BUT I KNOW OF ALL THE HOUNDS I'VE OWNED HE WAS ONE THAT IS TOP LEVEL.
I NEVER WILL FORGET HIS FIRST COMP. HUNT, I PUT HIM IN A LOCAL PKC HUNT. DREW OUT WITH JEFF THOMLEY AND IKE. A BIG WALKER DOG ON THE CAST OFF, RAN INTO HAWK HE WAS (9 MONTHS OLD) AND THAT WALKER KNOCKED HIM INTO THE WEEDS. HE SULLED UP THE REST OF THE NIGHT, UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE HUNT, HE TREED IN WITH IKE. IT WAS A HUMBLE BEGINNING FOR HIM. NOW ME AN OLE HAWK WILL JUST SLIP INTO THE PLEASURE WOODS FROM TIME TO TIME!

I had a good hunt with some buddies of mine. Everyone don't forget to get your Ad.s in for the breed album, the deadline is near. My Arizona buddy reported that the news we were going to get, didn't turn out like we hoped. We had a pretty good plan of a good cross. He is going to keep working on this. I'm expecting a possible litter soon, I won't know if my female took or not for another two or three weeks.
Ya'll keep em in the timber and on the show benches, this is what our sport is all about.

Thanks Larry. We are still learning and trying to put on the best hunt we can considering the area we are in. As you well know it�s not ideal woods but the one hour hunts sure help

Had a pretty fair hunt this past weekend, with a good buddy of mine. Took my year old Cane pup out. He didn't do to bad. He's showing a lot of potential. I really enjoyed the fellowship.
