I've recently been asked if I would breed turkey to any other breeds and participate in the x bred program. I wish those that participate the best of luck but turkey won't be a part of it. I'm proud of the redbone breed and it's progress it's making in the competition world. Thanks for all the interest and compliments on turkey.

I had the pleasure of hunting with Rob Farr and Russell Beck last night. Rob has a really nice young male that is continuing to represent the ace line of dogs. He's a fast little dog and as pretty of a treedog as you could ever want. Rob can't help but to have a good dog because he hunts with Russell Becks walker dogs every week. For those that don't know Russell, he's the kind of hunter that everyone should strive to be like. 50 years of the same line of walker dogs and he's always got a good one!

Shane, thanks for the kind words about turkey. You got to see turkey on a good night but that's a typical performance of his ability when you have a good guide like we did that night. I'm not blind to one particular line of redbone. If a dog has brains and will give me 100%, I'm usually happy to hunt it regardless of what it's out of or who it goes back to. Just let me know if turkey can help with your breeding program in the future. Good luck in 2015!

Travis, Russell and I talked all the way home about how much fun we had. It helps when you tree 4 singles and a den during the hunt. Lol. I agree with Shane and you on the x breed program. Back in the 60's when I started hunting in the hunts each event had a registered and a grade hunt and a lot of the time the grade hunt was the largest of the two. Purple ribbon registration was really pushed in those days and hunters were striving to get the breeds separated and pure in blood and genetics. Seems like this is going backwards to me. Maybe I just have a reluctance to change or too set in my ways. Shane you are right on about your assessment of Turkey. When I have hunted with Turkey I have seen a hound that is all business. Travis cuts him loose and he immediately gets in there and gets to hunting. He takes the tracks as he comes to them and opens just right. He has shown me he is an excellant locator and a hard pressure tree dog.. He has an excellant demeanor on the tree and isn't I'll in any way. Wish we had a camera last night as we had 3 hard treedogs all up on the tree at the same time and not a sideways glance by any of them. Its funny Shane I told Travis last night the same thing you did in your post. Turkey is one of the best redbones I have hunted with and that has been several. Thanks again Travis for the hunt last night and about your comments about Zack. I do like him a lot.
Thanks Rob, I had a great time. I think tracking was pretty poor but our dogs still did a nice job of finding 4 singles. I was gonna take some video on that last tree but it was so brushy and viney around that tree. Your opinion on turkey means a lot to me so I appreciate you posting your opinion when you didn't have to. I've been bragging on the speed of your little dog so if he looks bad on a hunt, it's my fault. Lol. I took turkey in the rain last night, he did a great job on 2 dens. I thought this picture turned out really good.

Turkey x Abby
Travis, as you know I've been keeping pretty close tabs on the Turkey and Abby litter. Most all are doing a great job on drags and a few have seen released coon and done well.
Mine will go the distance to the tree with the old dogs at night and be there when I get there. It won't be long and he will be clicking them off right along with them. He will find and light up a caged coon and has a nice mouth, looks and personality as well. Sometimes it's hard to remember they aren't 6 months old yet.
I cannot type enough to recommend Turkey to anyone wanting to breed a female. His pups are the right kind and his owner is too. Both factors matter to me when I decide where to take a female.

Chris, thanks for the comments on turkey. It sure is sounding positive about the cross on abby. I heard of another one treeing a release coon today. Tonight my friend Chris Siemens and I treed 2 singles with turkey. I took this picture and tried to decide if I should knock Chris out for turkey to munch on. Lol

Turkey x Abby
Travis,
Turkey and Abby has worked for me. Brown was running some track the other night and even located a few times, just couldn't pull the trigger. It won't be long now. These are not 6 months old till this Friday.
Billy Georges Norma female is doing a good job. Billy says that we hit a home run with this cross.
Aaron has one he really likes. Think he calls her Anna. Freaks out on a cage coon.
Rustys will destroy a caged coon and get with it. "Sadie"
Two haven't been worked much.
Bob Ross' runs and trees drags. Being trained by his 12 yr old son and doing good.
Mike Houstons Sadie was the boldest pup in the litter. I'd bet a paycheck she can get with one.
These are the ones I know about. If I owned another T-Top bred female, I would get to Turkey as soon as possible. That combo worked.
This is Crooked River Red Bandit, 12 wks old baying the cat, he's really getting serious about this cat and spends half of the day either treed or bayed on it. He caught it a few days ago and went to shaking, I thought it was great but the wife wasn't impressed. Lol

Turkey pups will be arriving in Iowa towards the end of April. Shadow is a sensible, independent, pressure, coon treeing female. She's owned by a hard to please hunter that doesn't tolerate nonsense from a dog. Once the pups are born I will post the contact info for these pups. I'm excited about this litter.

Early signs are good on turkeys pups. The oldest pups just turned 6 months old. Both of these pups are out of rouser bred females. The older pup belongs to Chris Snyder in Iowa. He's doing a great job with that pup.

Bad News Brown and Crooked River Bandit
Got some powerful stuff running thru their veins.
Brown grew up as every pup I own does, running loose on this farm. In my experience, there is no better way for a pup to teach themselves how to operate in the woods. This is the first, last and only released coon he will get.
Take a look at Brown and Bandit's pedigrees. See any similarities? Brown is out of Abby. Abby and Zoe are both out of brothers Griz and Rocky. I'm no geneticist, but I'm smart enough to figure that one out.
If you have a T-Top female, seriously consider this Turkey dog for the nick outcross you have been looking for.
Well, it's official that Chris Snyders pup "bad news brown" is gonna turn some heads. Last night he treed a coon on his own and held pressure in the process. Brown just turned 6 months old. Great work Chris, keep it up!

Heard it thru the grapevine that Turkey is a dad again. Probably gonna be some nice ones to add to his resume as well from that cross.
Chris, you heard correctly. Here's a pic of the final count, 9 dark pups. So far turkey has been siring large litters.
