Nice Hunt Tonight

Well......I decided to take Frog out tonight.......even though I thought that I was nuts for doing so. The wind was blowing about 35mph and the temp was dropping....but I was glutton for punishment so I went anyway.

So, with the wind howling, I turned Frog loose. She ended up striking about 150 yards out. I knew it was a good track by the mouth she was giving. She starting getting out of dodge and headed up toward the mountain. I tried to stay within a couple of hundred yards of her but it was hard going since she was crossing some pretty steep ridges. She went about 700 yards and I finally crossed a ridge about the time I heard her give 3 big locates and rolled it over and started hammering.

I made it up to the tree and I couldn't hardly believe what I saw......4 sets of eyes looking at me. Yep.....4 coons in one tree. So....after praising her and after a couple of phone calls (I tried calling you Buck but didn't get an answer )......I shot the top coon out and gave her the just reward she deserved. It was a good hunt but boy...I was soaked after walking up two ridges to get to the mountain.

All in all, it was a good day and night.

I'm get some very good reports on the Haze X Reba cross I think we might of hit a home run on this cross. There are few of them that are starting to split tree from the old dogs and have the meat.

There to the point that the guys say there ready to start putting them out on there own. This is going to be a good year for these pups. Just set back and watch.

I also talk to Kevin Edwards yesterday. He said several of the pups out of Haze and Hope are running and treeing drag tracks.

Mike it looks like the females out of CD bred to Haze is going to work. I think we might be on to something hear.

Noah is still hunting but keep's it on a down low.

good hunt

Well, got home around 8pm and decided to take Frog out for a drop. the temp at the house was around 19 degrees......so up near the mountain it would be safe to say it would be closer to 15 degrees up there. The moon sure was bright too to just be around a half-moon. I led her up the farm and turned her in. She ended up on a track, trailed it good, located and loaded up. I walked in to her and could see the coon looking at me from about 40 yards. Frog Dawg did a bang up job for the conditions. She winded another as I was walking back to the truck, but with the cold conditions I wanted to end on a good note. Nice job Frog Dawg.

Tom and Chick should be there. I'm holding Frog back to just keep letting her mature into a really nice dog. The last thing I want is to run into a bad situation with her and set her back. She is coming on strong right now....especially for this time of year and I do feel I could win with her but she is beginning to mature and I don't want to do anything to stop that process. So, the Frog Dawg will sit this one out as will Haze. Haze has a girlfriend right now and has a new girlfriend coming in tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I will go along with you Richard to see Tom Tom in action...

Tonights Hunt

After Allison and I went to dinner, I decided to take Frog Dawg just across the road and make one drop. She struck almost right away and up the ridge she went. She struggled with this track......it seemed as if there had been more than one coon and they had been all over this ridge. After a short while, she finally located and came treed. It was a den tree and there were 2 coon sitting on the outside. Pretty cool to say the least.

Frog's last three trips to the woods by herself has produced 7 coon on the outside. Not bad for this time of year.

Dave Savage was down today. Since he got here around noon, I decided to show him some sites....and some mountains. Then we did a little pup training, that turned out pretty good. Then, after supper, we loaded up his nice rabble male, bo and loaded up frog. we went and made a drop and had one treed in less than 5 minutes and the coon was on the outside. The coon rolled out after a few shots. It was a nice hunt.

Thanks for calling Mike...I enjoyed the play by play...and shot by shot...so to speak.

The dogs sounded real good, it's nice when the job gets done without having to work so hard and climb so high...eh?

It was good having you Dave. I'm glad our hunt turned out the way it did. It doesn't happen like that around here to often but it does occasionally. The mountains aren't to be taken lightly... It can get rough though in some places and it will be something you would never forget.
