Hello Eric, We were pretty lucky this winter up until mid-january. Then Old Man Winter came along and now wants to stay till April LOL. Yes I bet the snow is about to drive you crazy up your way as you have had to deal with much more than us. I am taking it pretty slow, but I think my knee would now come along a little faster if I was able to get out and do some good ole hill & holler walking, LOL. I look forward to seeing you at E-Days my friend, until then give Ole Rico a pat on the head for me. Take Care!! and I will see you in early summer.

I mite have to look you up, planning a road trip to visit John Walters and bring Bluspeck for a hunt. If all works well Bub Casdorph made a nice double Walters Hilltop Kate/Silvertone cross and Bub plans to deliver pups to both John and myself and bring his nice Orville dog for a hunt at Johns! That is if all goes as planned and she pups OK. I will let you know as I sure would like to meet you Dave.

My Oh My, Doug, I would absolutely love to have you come to our neck of the woods for a hunt. John is a SUPER good man, and a joy to be in the woods with. Bub and I have talked some on the phone too, and I really enjoy talking with him, but I have not yet met him in person.

Let me know when you all get closer to finalizing these plans and I will be sure to get together with you all.

Gone but not forgotten. This is UKC - Gr.Nt.Ch. Hooper Ridge Rocket. Rocket was the 2002 & 2003 World Champion English male in another registry. He was the very best (Pleasure/Competition) English Male dog I ever owned. And I only seen one other male dog during his lifetime that appeared to have more skills than this Ole boy. And that hound was Nicely's Black Face Red. Man I wish I would have bred to him. Thanks for reading and lets get it done again in the winners circle, GO TEAM ENGLISH!!!

Nt.Ch. Raw Dawg Rowdy

This is a picture of my son, David holding one of my all time favorite hounds. This picture was taken in about 1990, or 1991. In this picture is my Nt.Ch Raw Dawg Rowdy. Rowdy was Rocket's father. Rowdy was born in 1986. If there ever were two dogs that looked a lot alike, sounded a lot alike, tracked a lot alike, and treed a lot alike it was these two dogs. Rocket was a little better strike dog, but this ole hound Rowdy, caught more coons on the ground for me than any other hound I have ever owned. Rowdy ran a coon, a whole coon, and nothing but a coon, from the time he was a pup at 7 months old. I tried to sell him when he was 7 months old to a man. This man came down, I took Rowdy, his mom Hooper Ridge Queen, and Rowdy's littermate "Smoke" to a cornfield just up the road. It was Rowdy's 1st trip to the woods but smoke I had been taking some and he was doing it all and pretty to boot. I cut them two pups and their mom in that cornfield, Queen struck, followed by smoke and then Rowdy joined in. Queen treed followed by smoke, and then rowdy. they had a cub up a bush. We pulled them off and recut into the same cornfield. They soon struck another track, Queen went left, the two pups went right, Queen treed to the left, the pups treed to the right (again rowdy's 1st trip to the woods) we went in and they both had coons. That man bought Smoke and left me with Rowdy simply because Smoke was a bigger more leggy hound and dark blue to boot. Sometimes I wish I would have kept Smoke, but he got a home for life, and without Rowdy, their would not have been a Rocket, LOL.

I just found this picture the other day and it brought back some wonderful memories of my son when he was just a little boy. He is now a grown man, 31 years old and a licensed barber. David is starting to get that coon hunting bug, so maybe this Ole Hooper Ridge tradition will carry on a few more years, lol!

Where are you living at Dave???LOL! Was in teens here last nite, high of 28 and snow early today I'm afraid our spring peepers have done froze their peepers off!!!! But I do hear warmer weather is coming my friend!!

In March we can expect all 4 seasons of weather here in Ohio, so hang in there buddy, in just a few days it will be spring, then a day or two of summer and probably even go back to winter before it all clears up,LOL.

Man I love this pics you post on your site. Ole BlueSpeck sure is a pretty hound, and those great pics tell the story!!

Young Prospect

Hello Frank, That young prospect is coming along fairly well. He is not the kind of pup to get left behind. He will stay to the end no matter where that may be. If he has as much desire to catch a coon as he does to stay with the old dogs, he just may make something pretty nice. LOL

Thanks for the shout out. As you well know, you don't realize just how much you miss it, till your not able to go at all.

But YES I'm having fun again and the Good Lord is making my knee/leg stronger and stronger every day, so I am VERY blessed!

Well it is with grave concern that I must let you all know Holly had a severe accident last night and at this point not sure what the final outcome will be.

We found her treed and she had went up this huge leaning tree that layed in to a smaller tree. Holly was stuck at that junction where these two trees met, with a coon about 15 feet above her head. We couldn't risk trying to climb out on that leaning tree and Holly couldn't turn around to come down. We contacted a friend who came with climbing gear and ropes but by the time we got back to the tree, Holly had fallen out from exhaustion. She is really busted up pretty bad, 3 broken ribs, a blood mass surrounding her heart, a very large hematoma on the top of her right shoulder, and a busted up jaw. We have her on meds and are hoping she comes through but at this point it is a bit touch and go. The good news at this point is that, X-rays only showed ribs as being broken. All other major bones structure seemed to be intact. Holly was putting weight on all 4 legs but is favoring her right front just a bit.

Please keep this Ole Gal in your thoughts over the next few days, as the good ones seem to move on way too soon.

Big Thanks to ALL of you. Holly had not eaten a thing since Wednesday until about an hour ago. I gave her a little broth via a turkey baster and she drank it pretty good. I then had some rotissary chicken from last night. Thought I would just see if I could get her interested. Well danged if she didn't take the whole thigh out of my hand and eat it down. Man was I glad to see that. I then tore out the partial breast a leg and she ate that right down also. I have tried canned dog food, gravy, and some other tricks and had not had any luck until this point.

That gives me good hope that she just may pull through this. Normally if you can keep them eating and drinking, the body will take care of it's self.

Holly has taken up residence in the basement until we get out of the woods on this thing. She is a little stronger and seems a little more alert today than yesterday. I'm guessing if she makes it through these first 5-7 days showing progress, she just may pull through this OK. She has a lump on the top of her shoulder about the size of a kids basketball, and another lump on her rib cage above her heart about the size of a soft ball.

God Bless you all for the thoughts and prayers. It is people like all of you that makes me realize there are still some absolutely wonderful people in this world. Thanks again!! Hope to see you all real soon.

Sorry to here about her Dave hope she comes thru it ok it happened to my dog last year he finally got better took him a few months that was me the other day just got on here I've been reading for a long time but hope this post not sure on this computer thing lol

Hi Robbie, so very good to hear from you. Most folks don't know it but if it were not for YOU driving all the way to Wyatt's Wright's house to pick Swamps Slamen up Salley (Holly's mother) Ole Holly would never have existed.

So Thanks my friend for being willing to drive all that way to pick that pup out of Dolly.

Hello Doug, Thanks so much for checking in on us. Ole Holly is getting just a bit stronger every day. I see that her hind quarters are very weak. She has a tough time getting to her feet, but once up she seems to be having a stronger gait when walking her. Her eyes seem a little more clear than they did the first few days. I think she may have had a concussion on top of everything else. When I take her for a walk she seems to track just a bit sideways. Her right side seems a good bit weaker than her left side, but as I said, she does seem to be just a tiny bit better each day. Still only eating roasted chicken and fried hamburger, but I'll take that as a good thing right now.

Man You and LE are sure doing your part to help keep this English breed in the winners circle. Great Job my friend!!
Hope to get back down and hunt with you soon. Take Care and congrats on all those wins!!

Hello Big Mike, Ole Holly is healing up some now. I think her brain is healing faster than her body, LOL. Now when I go get the pup out of the pen Ole Holly starts raising cain, wanting to go, but I see she is still favoring her right front shoulder and her rear right leg.

Probably be a while yet before she can actually go but in a couple more weeks maybe she can get out for just a small exercise.

I look forward to hunting with you Friday night. We will have a blast even if my pup does nothing but chase your dog around all night, LOL.

WARNING- Keep your lead strap close at hand as this young guy wants to chew to pieces any strap I use to tie him at a tree. I made one out of complete welded chain this time. I bet he will not chew that rascal in to pieces LOL.
