up top for a nice dog. Haze didn't have 20 cast wins to make grand nite, but he had his share of cast wins that he didn't get a win toward Grand.......so since that is becoming the basis for a nice dog now, just wanted to throw that in..

Frog Dawg -- is back at it!!!

My dad and I took Frog Dawg out for a drop tonight. She has been in heat the last 3 weeks....well, tomorrow is 3 weeks. She looks like she is pretty much done, so with only three nights of kill season left, we went and made a drop. She hunted out one hollar with nothing to show for it, not even a bark. Then she went up another and got struck at about 320 yards.......ran the track and got treed at 500 yards exactly. She had the coon on the outside and of course she got rewarded for her efforts. It was a good hunt and even Tom got to hear the action once the coon hit the ground.

It's good to know that Frog picked right back up where she left off three weeks ago.

Hey Mike, I sure enjoyed the action last night, thanks for calling and letting me hear the end of that hunt.

Frog sounded real good on the tree, she's loud and has a real nice tone to her voice, something even I could hear from a distance.

I'll have to say that you did a pretty nice job of being a one shot wonder last night...but I could also hear that Frog had to finish the job...it almost sounded like she was wearing the phone on her collar.

She's a nice female Mike, she fits right in nicely with the nice pack of dogs you guys have put together out there.

thanks Tom, sorry it was a little late but Frog hunted almost an hour before she ever hit a track.

I couldn't believe I hit the coon with one shot, I figured that I hit it in the head since it came out so quickly, but Frog did a nice job finishing it off as you heard. That stump that the phone was on was only about 3 feet from where the coon hit the ground so I guess it was about the same as if Frog would have been wearing it on the collar, heck, the last time she shook the coon, it actually knocked the phone off of the stump and that's when I grabbed it....lol.

As it turned out, we were about 1300 yards from the truck. It took us a little while to get back but it was all worth it. I am going to take her again tonight but it won't be until after midnight since we have youth service tonight. We are expecting a bunch of rain tomorrow and tomorrow night so this will have to be my last night of kill season, it goes out at midnight tomorrow night.

I have to start taking a camera with me, Allison bought her a new Nikon for her photography and I get to use her old one. It's the D-70 I think. So, I will actually get to put a few pics up here of Frog treeing alone.

Sorry that I did not get the phone call. When I got home and put Da Moose up I went in the house. It was all over when I hit the recliner. Out like a light...hehehe.

When will The Frog Dawg make her first night hunt?

Good Late Hunt Tonight

I got home from our youth night tonight around 11:30pm.......by the time I got changed and got Frog loaded, I got to the woods about 12:25am. She got struck not to far from the truck and worked the track across the ridge and power lines and ended on a den tree. The weather was threatening rain and high winds, but being stubborn, I decided to walk her about 300 yards and turn her on the back side of a ridge. She made a circle and then got into the wind, took off over the side and struck at about 150 yards and after just a couple of barks, located and locked her down. It was pretty steep so on the way down to her I shined above her and could see two sets of eyes looking. I gave her one of them for a job well done.

Frog and I got back to the truck and headed home and I decided to take a different route which would lead me by some woods and creeks. The first curve I went around, there was a coon right in the road. He dove over the bank and it was a great spot to turn loose, so I stopped and got Frog out. She opened as soon as I turned her loose. The coon went about 50 yards straight along the creek and then turned straight up the ridge for about 40 more yards and hit a tree. Frog gave one big long locate and rolled it. I carried the gun up there and she was in a big pine. the coon looked at me and when it came out, it was ready to fight. I ended up having to shoot it again but that was ok. It was a good hot one to end the night. All in all, a good late night hunt for nice young dog.

Finally got home around 2:30am or so. It's 3:20 now so morning is approaching quickly. We are going to get a pile of rain this morning and all day and continuing into the night, so I'm glad I got her out.

Chicken and Zoe looked good last night. They were under two trees. Andy got some good pics I will see if I can get them on tonight since I will probably have to internet hunt tonight.

It sounds like all of that breeding is wearing Boo Boo out. Keep it up Mr Pro handler, not too bad for a 15 mos old pup. Good luck to you and Buck Fri night. Yogi, do you already have your excuse made up for this weekend? Maybe you and Pastor Mike could get together and come up with a couple of good ones. I know that it is too wet for any ball games.

1) Calling for winds again

2) My rear end has come out of my recliner again

3) David goes in and takes willow off of tree with sick 3 legged coon Willow treed and leaves it there LOL Willow is still upset by that

4) High School Baseball starts Monday and I am ready for that my youngest son plays and my oldest son is one of the coaches added bonus my grandson and daughter will be at most of the games

got to think some about 5 thru 10 maybe Pastor Mike can help me out there

let's see if I can help wendell out,

5. the barometric pressure is to high........it's hurts my dogs ears....

6. there was a bunch of deer in the fields this evening and that means the coons aren't moving......so why waste time.....

7. I hunt a blue dog.... sorry David....couldn't resist that one...

8. it's too dark out........the dogs can't see good enough.

9. it rained today.....and everybody knows that coons don't move after a rain.

10. I saw on the news that someone had saw a boo boo, a yogi, a wendell and a long grey haired looking skinny dude on the loose so it's too dangerous to go to the woods tonight......

How is that Wendell?

Well......despite all the excuses above, after dinner and listening to our local high school boys basketball team win in the state semi-final, I loaded up Frog for the last 2 and a half hours of our kill season.

The wind was howling something terrible so I decided to turn her loose on a ridge. She struck just a little ways up the hill and began to work the track. The wind was blowing around 25 with gust higher than that and the temp was falling pretty fast. we got about 2 inches of rain today and at 9:45pm, the leaves were already freezing on the ground so I knew tracking would be difficult. Anyway, Frog worked the track and got hung up a little on it and then finally worked it through and got treed. It was a legitimate den tree and in a great spot. I was talking to buck the whole time so when I leashed her up, buck said to call him when I turned loose again.

I walked her to the other side of the farm and turned loose. Frog disappeared and I called buck. Frog struck another cold track after about 5 minutes. To make a LONG story short........Frog worked and worked and worked that track. She was moving at a moderate pace and headed around a steep ridge right into the wind. When she got to around 400 yards out, i could barely hear her so I decided to close the distance. I got to the top of the ridge and she had already gone around the point and oh boy, what wind was blowing. She had opened a few times down below me and the more I stood there the colder I got. So, i told buck i was going to call her in. so i called a few times and she barked a few times and then all the sudden she locates and comes treed. I told buck she just found a tree because I was calling her. Buck said, you are going to mess your britches if you go down there and she has a coon. I said no way, she's faking it. well, i get down to the tree and shine for a few seconds and told buck it was slick.....then my eye caught a familiar sight......I could see a coon tail on a limb way up high. Yep....Frog had the coon..... I told buck I couldn't believe it. She did a heck of job cold trailing that coon and treed it on the cold side of the ridge with the wind howling. She moved that track around 600 yards. She pecked at it for a while but in the end, she finished the job and so she got a just reward.

Nice job Frog Dawg!!!!! You made me proud on the last night of kill season.

So Boo Boo is telephone hunting now! He called me twice last night also. My hunt was too boring though so we did not talk that long. Tom Tom has decided that he wants to be a real coonhound now. He tried to work a bad track. He treed twice for about a minute and then went on. He finally took it way through the country and treed and stayed. I was lucky and was able to drive around. I guess that the third time was the charm as they say. He had a big boar coon that was very antsy and climbing all around. Coons are scarce here now and the boars are climbing up and down every tree that they come to. There are plenty of fox, coyotes and deer out though. It makes it tough to hunt pups.
