Hey Tom

Just wondering if you have any other Stud dogs besides Yank?

Posted by topdog on 12-22-2009 02:13 AM:

Stud dogs

We aren't really advertising anything just yet, we're in the process of proving out a young male called Nite Ch. PR T-Top Northwoods Yankee. He has pups on the ground now the oldest of which are about 8 months and another litter coming 6 months or so. The older litter has a couple of pups already tracking and treeing coons and the younger litter out of our Nite Ch. Ch. T-Top Dark Angel has a couple of pups also getting after coons at that young age. We have one here that we are starting and he's an outstanding prospect that will soon call southern Ohio his home.

In the wings, we also have a young male called PR T-Top Dark Timber Moose who is out of Rabble Rouser and Nite Ch. PR Long Tall Sally.

Here's a couple of nice pictures of Moose on the wood...

He is featured on this post more than a few times but I don't mind sticking a picture of him up because I think he's got a chance to be a real good contributor to our breed and line in the long run...we'll see.

We will be putting Moose on Nite Ch. PR Brown's Leinie Red Ryder, who is a full sister to Yank, and we'll be keeping back a couple of pups to see how they go...I really feel that this will be an outstanding cross with old Rat in there 3 times and double Rabble Rouser as well as outstanding dogs from Sally's side...we're looking forward to it.

Moose

Hey Richard...you've had a little to do with the mix that produced this young male so you should take some pride watching as he develops. The next phase will be the fun part and we'll see where it ends up from there but one thing for certain...I think we'll hear more about Moose in the not too distant future.

Hunting

Hey Carl, we're not so far apart that we can't get together once the snow settles...or leaves completely...I'm not much for struggling through deep snow with short legs and bad knees but winter won't stay forever so we just have to wait it out and get back at it when we can. Moose is a ball of energy these days, he's got a great personality that improves every day. He's put weight back on from being hunted down over the fall and right now, he and Yank both look like a million bucks. I usually don't get sick of winter until about the end of February but it seems I'm already looking forward to warmer days and cool (not cold) nights. We'll hook up soon and see if we can find us a coon to tree.

I would love to have something to do with the hunting of him. (We don't have any snow down here to worry about.) Lt Dan, Moose's 1st cousin, treed one last night but I he was 910 yds when he finally climbed. I make sure that I get rid of those long runners. I don't want them in the gene pool.

Cherry and the GPS Tracker

Hi Tom! Took Cherry out last night with a little snow and have never seen her look better. About 100 plus on the wood from the time she threw that big locate until I got to the two trees. I gave her the meat. The GPS 220 and the DC-30 collars are every thing you and Dave told me they were. I loved them. Heck they even tell you when your dog is treed. Hope you had a great Christmas. Dave P.S. That's what I bought myself for Christmas. ( The Tracker )

Fun in the snow

Hey Carl, it looks like you were out playing in the snow...eh? Looking at those pictures, it almost makes me want to drag the coon out and raise a ruckus too...but I'll get over it...until it warms up a bit anyway.

I was hoping the New Year weekend would warm up enough to mess around with the dogs but it's looking like sub zero lows and single digit highs so...I guess I'll wait it out a bit longer.

The dogs look in good shape and that they're having a good time, it's good to see. The dogs around here are all getting fat and sassy but holding up real good so far this winter. I'm ready to hunker down for awhile and wait it out but I've got some wood to get in over a few weekends so hopefully that will help shorten the winter a little bit.

Yes some squirrels were out but not far from den trees. But getting out helps with cabin fever. Brandon my son put a picture on redfever's site so you can see if it looked cold. And how are the temp's were you live i hope there warmer.

Cold

Yep...it's plenty cold in the northland...eh? I had 20 below zero last Saturday morning and it was 9 below zero this morning...that's cold enough.

The rain on the snow a couple weeks or so ago, made for some nasty conditions for people and dogs...won't quite hold you up and bust your shins and cut the dogs legs and pads if you walk or run in it. I can wait it out...we're due for a January thaw...right Carl?....we can hope anyway

January and February are the toughest months to go through because I get cabin fever real bad and I know that spring is still 2-3 months down the road. Hopefully we'll get a few warmer days so we can at least fool with the pups and maybe even get out and find a coon or two...oh well...I guess we'll take it the way it comes.

Distraction...

For all you guys needing a little distraction to help get you through, here is a link to the Big Game page containing some good pictures from out west in Montana.

http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthrea...threadid=320524

Lots of nice Red dogs doing their "off season" work and looking real good doing it. I have been blessed to enjoy some of it over the years and hope to be able to do it again before I can't get it done anymore.

Enjoy!

how is flirt doing?

hillis

Posted by topdog on 01-15-2010 04:48 PM:

Flirt

She is sitting out the winter waiting for better weather so she can get back to the woods. She is in Iowa being hunted and we'll see how it all turns out as far as what she's going to be capable of.

The weather today is in the low 30s with more to come tomorrow and Sunday so we're hoping to be able to at least get the coon out and do some dog training for an hour or two. We only have two pups here that need the exposure but winter has been rough to this point so we're looking forward to giving them some time this weekend.

Hopefully, we'll get an extended stretch of nice weather to knock the snow down and soften that layer of ice because if that happens, we might be able to get out and make a drop or two and see if these hounds still remember how to track and tree a coon.
