FRIENDS

Thanks guys for the concern and replies on here and PM I got. Yaw got me tearing up so before I go to all out bawling I have Beverly calling my local DR. and see if he can give me a referral and set me up to see the special one. Ron, I'm not macho, just get frustrated and don't like the run around and playing the game to get seen by the one that can tell me what the problem might be. Kind of like having to be politically correct, just can't do it. But I'm going to get'er done. Thanks again guys, it means a lot, whether I have ever met you or not.
Mr. Jack, don't make room for BO just yet, lol!!
Ron you mentioned acid reflux, I been eating the purple pill Nexium like M M's. Always got reflux it seems.

Steve

Haven't been on here much lately and was truely sorry to hear about all your issues. I pray that God will be by your Family's side. Glad Bo and Bell are still giving you some enjoyment. Your Friend, Dave P.S. Bell's Mom is fat and sissy. Looked good the last time I had her out but I have been slacking lately. Also have two real nice Feist squirrel dogs now. They are fun little dogs that put their whole heart in making you happy. Good Luck my Friend.

HUNTING

Thanks Scot and Dave. I never had a squirrel dog but have considered getting one sooner or later. I bet they are fun and we have plenty squirrels around here as no one hunts them anymore that I know of.
I knew swamp would be flooded tonight as we got right at 3" of rain last night and early this morning. So I took BO and just walked across road from the house and cut him down through the pines between the cypress slough and river. He struck in close to 500yds and I just could hear him as the wind had started to blow and he was down wind of me and over the lip of the slough bluff. I took off that way and was watching the garmin and he was over 900yds and moving a lot quicker than I was. Got him back into hearing and he was treed across a big pasture that comes in close to the river. Got to him and he was on a huge den tree that I could step inside of and not be touching either side. I shined the light up into it but the basketball size hole made a bend and I couldn't see out it to tell if he was home or not. Spent some time shining the outside and it was full of vines but couldn't get him to look if he was in there anywhere. I checked to see how far back to where I cut him and we were 0.75mi down the river from home. Nice little hike back but it felt good to get out hunting again even though the river is up about 5' and slough was full but I had crossed on a beaver dam to get into that pasture and that's the way we came back home. I felt ok and didn't have any chest pains. Probably hunt over there again tomorrow night and give the swamp another day to drain out some. Good Hunting!

IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT

In the still of the night I cast my hound,
Down the creek hunting for a coon is where he's bound.
I hear splashes of water as he looks for the scent,
That will tell him which direction this tricky coon has went.
He strikes the trail pretty deep at 687 yards,
Opening more and more as he drives the track hard.
Big, Raging Bawls fill the night air,
I'm listening closely ,while at the stars I stare.
Then silence for a few seconds as my hound searches for the right tree,
Louder bawls ring out as he locates and calls for me.
Turn on my light and start heading his way,
No hurry though, I have faith he will stay.
As I come into the tree and cast my light up,
There the coon sits, not much bigger than a pup.
Praise my hound for a few minutes and tell him Good Job Son,
I sit IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT just to hear him put the coon on the run.

Steve, didn't know you had it in you, Great poem. Take care.

POEMS

Thanks Mr. Jack. Over the years I have wrote a lot of poems about different things. Some good and some not so much. Didn't have any good stories about hunting to type about so thought I would come up with a little poem to remind myself why I go out into the still of the night, most every night, even when the hunting isn't going great. The past 4 nights Bo has made a few trees but haven't seen but one coon. Two pines, a den, and a couple of huge water oaks with a lot of vines and knarly limbs every where and not so easy to shine. I feel sure he had a couple more of them but I sure like to See them, especially this time of year. Picked up a couple more spots along a creek in Amite County to hunt on when deer season is finally over and trying to lease a couple more hundred acres here up river from the house. Looking forward to seeing yaw in a couple days and then getting home and hitting these new spots. I have wore that flooded swamp out this winter. Good Hunting!

SHORT HUNT

Went for a short hunt tonight to Black Branch Swamp. Haven't been in there in over a week. Cut Bo down the creek and he went deep quick but didn't get a strike and made a big loop and came by out in front of me about 100yds headed up the creek. Struck in within a few minutes, opened about a dozen times then fell treed. I rode the 4-wheeler closer and didn't have to walk but 136yds in to tree. He was on a medium size water oak and I found him up high in a fork after a few minutes of looking. Knocked him on out to Bo who was happy to see him and told Bo he done a good job treeing him that close to the trail. It can sure get bad in those swamps quick if you get much farther from the trail. Coon was a big boar. We get up at 4am in the morning to pack up for the Winter Classic. Going to be some nice weather and a great time. Good Hunting!!!!

MIGHTY BLUE JAKE

Thanks Ron. Jake was a good one and when I saw that gyp for sale I just had to buy her. You got a good pup. Bo and good females are putting out pups that folks are proud of. Take Care.

WINTER CLASSIC

Thanks Danny but no luck last night. We hunted out from Grenada in some great bottomland oak woods but coon wasn't moving early. First tree big den, then judges dog got out of pocket and we spent 2 hours trying to round her up but no luck but he did get her later. 55 minutes left in hunt we had moved cut them again. After a while and no barks checked garmin and it showed BO 3 miles behind us where we came from and I knew my collar was not working. Walker gyp owner who was also guide checked his and she was over 1 mile the way we sent them so started walking. Long long story short we walked 6 miles last night to look at a coon BO and walker gyp treed After hunt time was up. I told BO running with those long legged females would get him NOWHERE!! Lol!! Never had him blow through the country like that. Woods were so open and clean you could have rode a 4 wheeler everywhere. BO is used to thickets and he must have thought he was in Heaven when I cut him down through those delta woods. Rough night and I feel like I need both hips replaced. We will go again tonight and hope for better luck, Good Hunting!! Glad I brought 2 collars as my antenna wire was broke on the one he had on.

WINTER CLASSIC

Saturday nights hunt got a late start but we finally got to the woods. I had a Redtick 3yr old male, a Walker 3yr old male and UKC's first ever CROSSBRED hound in my cast. He was out of Bone Collector and a Black and Tan gyp. It was a lot of great dog work and split trees ALL night with 5 coons seen. On first tree Redtick had 1st tree, BO 2nd, Walker 3rd and Crossbred 4th. We get in there and Redtick is on tree by himself, BO is on a tree 40' away with Crossbred covering him and Walker is another 80' away on his on tree. All blowing the top out and holding their tree. English got another tree by himself but left it. Walker got in the ground at base of hollow tree but we got him out. Then the Walker and BO treed together and the English and Crossbred treed together 100' away. Crazy fast action. When the dust settled the Walker won the cast and I saw with his 400 points he won first place Saturday night. That made him NT CH as owner told me he had 2 first place wins already. There were real good hounds in that cast and BO and I just got beat, but I am proud of him. He showed up better Saturday night than he did Friday and I feel is getting used to these cast with strange dogs. The 3 year old hounds grabbed the tree a little quicker and I feel that comes from confidence and experience of being older and more mature. BO just turned 19 months and I feel with some more hunting time on him he will win his share. Congrats to all the winners and was glad to see some old friends there and meet some new ones. Good Hunting!!

MUD

There is some great hunting woods up in the delta but they have a few bad spots too! The Judge from last night stepped off into a bad one and we tried to help him out but he wanted to lay down to break the suction and crawl out so we let him and I snapped this picture. He called time out and I carried him home to change clothes and then we got back to hunting.

INTERNET HUNTING

Been waiting on deer season to end so I can hit my new spots and now I'm sick. Got strep throat yesterday and Dr. got me on some antibiotics. I just got done taking some last week for sinus crud and now this. Killing me to set on the couch but I better for a couple days and let the meds kick in gear so I can kick in gear. Going to the heart specialist Friday. Thanks to ALL who encouraged me to quit being so stubborn and bull headed and go. Will post what they find as they do test.
I had sold Storm and thought Rain had a new home but after talking with him, he is like me and had to many young ones already so Rain is still here and about to get hunted a lot as soon as I'm well. I also had been wanting a titled, older gyp to cross on Bocephus and last week I found what I wanted. She is out of my old MIGHTY BLUE JAKE dog from Mr. Frank's Kennel that MR. Ed Mauney ended up with some years back and Gr. Nt. CH. Coat's Bawl Creek Blue Hugger. They say this was an outstanding cross with all littermates being NT. CH. or GR. NT. CH. and some SH. CH. I had agreed to buy her before I found out this was also Mr. Franks last coonhound to own before he got out of coon hunting so she already means a lot to me even before she arrives. Mr. Frank said she was a good one and if she was good enough for him then she will surely suite me. Corky Burke will pick her up in the next few weeks. She is in Wisconsin. I feel it was Fate that guided me to this hound and will be glad to bring her back south. I have already told Mr. Frank that I would have him snapping his lead back on her. We will see. Her name is Stormy. Same thing I called the pup I just sold. It was just meant to be. I will hunt her and a pup together until they are ready to go alone. Also will be breeding her to Bocephus when she comes in. Will post pictures of her when she arrives. She has a big, male dog bawl with short bawl on tree. My wife said that selling one and buying another isn't cutting down on the hounds! Lol! I told her it was like playing cards, you hold some and fold some until you feel you have your best hand. I think I'm close, Good Hunting!

Steve

Sorry to hear you're under the weather, but good to hear you got that appt.. Internet coonhunting is all we're going to be doing for quite awhile in Iowa after the 12+ in. of snow & wind we got last Sunday. At least you can go hunting as soon as you get to feeling better. Stormy will sure like the warmer weather down there than what we're having- supposed to be -15 on Thurs. morning. Maybe we can hook up at Bluetick Days for a chat. Take care, Ron.

Internet Hunting

Steve I know how you feel. I've been down with something ever since I got back from the Winter Classic. I thought I had the flu. Went to the Dr. monday, He said I didnt have the flu, just a real bad head and chest cold, dont know what the difference is. I been wanting to get these hounds out, but I havnt hardly been out of the house since I got back. They sa we have some rain comming in so that sure wont help these colds out. Sorry to hear about your strap throat. I think the sickest I have ever been was when I had strap throat one time. Steve I hope you get well soon and can get ole Bo back in the woods. Good luck on your heart test.

UNDER THE WEATHER

Ron, I am planning on making Bluetick Days and it would be good to meet you and talk hounds for awhile.

Scot sent you a PM back.

Mr. Jack I hate to hear your under the weather too. We been waiting for 4 months for deer season to get over now we both sick. I like to have went anyway last night but decided I better not or might end up in hospital. My stuff sounds like yours, head and chest cold and also the bad throat. 3 weeks ago I had some crud and they give me a shot and 10 days of cipro 500mg that I finished taking before the Classic and thought I was all good. It would have been a good day to have got together and drank some coffee, fried some deer sausage and talked hounds as its been raining here most the day. Hope you get to feeling better soon and when you do give me a shout. I have several new spots to hunt. Need to put a little more fur in these young hounds mouths before season closes. Take Care!!

HUNTING and DR'S

Thanks Chris. I went to Heart Specialist today over in Hattisburg at Heart South. Got there for 8;30 and didn't get out until 11. They did another EKG and scheduled the stress test and blood work for Thursday morning then 2 weeks from today go back for them to do Echo test. I will be dead of old age before they tell me if my heart is ok or not. Talked with Doc and he said my symptoms from that spell I had along with all the belching I did for 2 days could have been a heart attack but it wasn't showing up on EKG. He said all the belching is caused by the heart as a clot enters it and moves through dissolving on its on. Hard to believe they tell people this and send them home for a week before they start test. I will finish this even though I wanted to tear out of that waiting room like a Brahman Bull.
Went hunting for a short hunt last night even though I was still running fever but I had to get out of the house. Took Bell and Rain to Bo's Bottom for first time since Sept. They got on a hot track about 300yds in and rolled him a few minutes when Bell fell treed but Rain kept rolling. Went in to Bell and as I came in I saw the coon but he was one tree over from her. She missed him a little so I pulled her off and sent her toward Rain. They ran the other one for another 10 minutes and both hit tree at same time. Went into them and they were on a big den tree, nothing on the outside. I loaded them up on 4 wheeler and came home. My fever broke during the night and I haven't had any today so will hit the woods again tonight. Had a man from Ohio call and he bought Rain so next week she is headed to a new home. I wish him the best with her as she is going to be a good one. My heart is just in BO and that ECHO line of hounds now and BELL to cross on BO one day. Now I can hunt BO and BELL without feeling guilty about having others that need hunting. Briar is 6 months old so I have a few months before I start getting serious about starting him. My new gyp, Stormy should be here in the next 10 days and looking forward to putting her in the woods and getting to know her hunting style. Good Hunting!

In dealing with numerous doctors throughout my father's ordeal with cancer, I found that very few of them are forthcoming. As best I could tell, there were two reasons for their lack of open communication. First is the legal liability issue. They genuinely don't know for sure and so don't want to be pinned down to what they're really thinking because we live in a sue happy society. Second, they don't think you are capable of handling the complexities involved with the imprecise science of medicine. The two problems are related. Hang in there, Steve, and keep asking them questions. If you remain calm and reasonable you might be able to break through their defensive reluctance and get them to open up. They can really work some wonders in many cases. It's a pain, but it's worth it. You may be able to simply take medication to work out the clotting problems. Be careful. Don't press too hard if you start feeling funny.

First day without rain since Tuesday here, so I'll be heading out to the woods tonight myself.

SPRING IS COMING

Took this picture a few minutes ago as sun was setting over the river. It was almost 60 degrees today and will be mid 70's by Sunday. Trees are starting to bud out a little and it won't be long and the turkeys will be gobbling and spring will be upon us. You guys in snow country hang in there, I believe the worst is over and yaw will be cutting those hounds after those hungry coons soon.
