Dave, Just thought I would update Chief's page with a report on Jazz. She split from my old dog last night. She hunted hard, did her own thing and split with a coon.
She will be six months old 05-14-15

My hip has finally mended enough to start walking with out my crouches, and I can now use a cane. I didn't want to start out with Chief, He can be to much to handle when your operating on bad wheels. I hunted a male I own called Screech. He did a nice job. Drop one he struck at about 300 yards. moved the track nicely, and treeded at 900 yards. Gramin showed me that I would be able to drive to him. He was about 100 yards off the road on a Big Maple with the meat. Drop 2 Screech fell treeded about 300 yards in on a dead ash tree with the meat. It was a good easy night, And I was thankful that every thing went well. It felt great to get out. I had my cell phone in hand with people ready to help me if I needed them. I am Blessed to have these people in my life willing to help me.
glad to here your getting better and running dogs again dave

CHIEF X BESS
Leaning towards selling Josie. Main reason is I've got a lot on my plate right now and it's gonna continue to be that way till at least late Fall/early Winter. Other reason is she has moments where she forgets what "shut up" means, and I have cats and squirrels in my yard on a regular basis. Gonna be a heck of a tree dog though!

hunt
Took Screech out last night. Beautiful night. 56 degrees no wind, I think you could hear a pin drop. 1st dump struck at 200 yards and run it about 75 yards into a brush pile. I Recasted off the brush pile and never got struck. Screech hunted out about 600 yards and did a Big u moving in and out between 200 and 600 yards. After about 30 minutes he checked in. he spent a lot of time in one area and checked lot of trees, but never said a word. If he would have went 200 or 300 hundred yards deeper he would have hit a creek bed, and I felt he would have got something going.
2nd dump was much better. Screech struck at about 500 hundred yards. He moved around much better this time, and was struck in about 2 to 3 minutes. He did a nice job on the track, using his mouth the way I like. opening with a few barks and putting a good distance between barks. Screech took the track about 400 yards in from where he struck, and then went another 200 or 300 hundred yards east, then back towards me. He ended up treed on a big hemlock about 300 yards from me with the meat. It was about midnight so I called it a night. When I got home I thought about turning Chief lose. It was just such a nice night, But my better judgment said end on a good and easy night.
i got 2 young dogs out of Chief that I really like Both naturals one 20 months old and one 7 months old

Took screech last night. 1st dump struck at 200 yards, took the track west 473 yards, Then went quite for about 3 minutes. Then he give out 5 or 6 locates and come treed. When I got to him he was on a big den tree. Couldn't find coon on the outside. The tree huge and filled with holes. 2nd dump I turned Screech lose across an open field. He broke hard ,and hit the timber in short order. After about 5 minutes I pulled out the Garmin to see where he was. He was 100 yards behind me back by the truck. I thought to myself what the heck! As I turned to head toward him, he opened with a couple of chirps, and then let it out. He ended up tacking the track about 300 yards in a thick cut over mess and got treed. I was able to walk the edge on a tractor path and get with in 50 yards of him. I could see the coon in a bunch of vines at the top of the tree. There was a lot of tree tops and cut over with thorn bushes and berry bushes I couldn't get in from the side I was on. I walked back around to the back side along a cut Alfa field and was able to get to him. I give him a few pats on the back and headed home.
Sounds like you got a nice one coming along, what cross is he out of dave?
PS- Have you heard any word on how your Chief x Jewell male has been doing ? the rest of the litter has been doing pretty darn good

Nick,
The male you are talking about is a few miles from me. He has not had a lot of woods time but seems to be coming along. I am going to go check him out.
I have another question for Dave or Mackie. Is Pounder still alive or is their semen on him? Always looking ahead here. If things keep going the way they are going with Jazz, granddaughter to granddad cross might be interesting.

Pounder is in coon dog heaven. There are some straws of semen on him still out there. Mackie could tell you who has it.
Male
Nick
The male that I have been hunting is out of GR.nitech. GR.ch Rockfish Creek Blue Jay, and GrniteCH GRCH Mad Dog Blue Sara. I was hoping to get Screech in some hunts this summer, but my hips aren't ready. I could never keep up. I guess you might say I am old and slow. that's one of the reasons I haven't had Chief out. Chief hunts harder and goes as far as it takes to get treed. Screech hunts good, But is more of what I would call a medium type hunter. Right now he will go around 600 to 900 yards, and then work his way back and check. If you would like to come for a hunt some night your more than welcome. I can take either Dog. I have hunted Screech by himself, but I would like to work him in with some other dogs. I hunt by myself 90% of the time and only take one dog most of the time. I will take two dogs once in a while just to work them with company. I cant take two now because its hard enough for me to just lead one right now. Last time I took two by myself I dropped from the Tailgate. One dog treed too the south at 750 yards, and the other treed too the North at 900 yards. I am not ready for that yet.
