MY NEW GYP, STORMY

My new gyp arrived yesterday. Stormy is a Dual Champion and is out of a hound I used to own that came from Mr. Frank Erwin. Mighty Blue Jake was a good one and he reproduced some great ones after he went to Illinois. I have heard this litter she was out of all made good or great cooners. She was Mr. Franks last coonhound before he got out of coon hunting. I'm proud to add her to my kennel. She has a big bawl mouth and I'm looking forward to hearing her under a coon. Friday night is the plan to cut the ole girl and see if she can teach Bo any tricks! Didn't hunt the last couple nights as I have been bowed up at work but got it under control and will be back after them tomorrow night after this 20 degree weather gets out of here.

She looks like a real sweetie, Steve. And that kennel you built really is a dog haven. We can't wait to hear her and see what she does for you.

DOG HAVEN

Thanks Chris. A neighbor who lets me coon hunt their land upriver from me had his shop class make that sign and another one for my kennel. He had some cypress logs I sawmilled for him and I wouldn't let him pay me because they let me coon hunt and I'm the kind of person that pays favors back. Well that wasn't good enough for him and when I got home from a race those 2 signs were at my house. He teaches at the local high school and him and the students did a great job and I am some proud of those signs.
And yea, she's a sweetie. Just like the rest of my spoiled hounds, if you get to close to her face she will slap lap you just like they do! That's what Mason and I call getting your faced washed by a dog!

Good luck with your new hound Steve. I think I might have hauled her for Mr. Erwin up to Wisconsin a couple of years ago. I heard she was a nice hound.

Take Care,
Scott

STORMY

Thanks Jason. I just bumped an old thread to the top of Homebrew Dan when Dave used to own him. Mighty Blue Jake, Stormy and Dans sire had 19 pups and 6 were Gr. Nt and 2 were Nt. Ch. for a 42%. I'm glad he ended up going north and getting to breed some good ones as it looks like he was sure a reproducer. Take Care and keep ole Kink warm, its cold over here!

Stormy

Stormy looks like she is enjoying La. She is a real nice hound that came from a real cross. Her daddy and grand sire really clicked on old S/R Stormy daughters and grand daughters. I owned or hunted all of her brothers and sisters at one time or another and they were real uniform in ability and looks. The ones I liked the best I never got chance to own . But there still around so it may happen yet. Ed

Nice looking gyp you have there. Lots of good things people are saying about her too. I am curious about seeing the rest of your kennel. Can you post a picture of the whole thing. I like what I see but can figure out how the rest might be built.

Health and Hunting

Chris rain may hold off and let me get to hunt her but the later tonight it gets its supposed to really move in for a few days. Hate to hear ole Wolf got hit by stinky, maybe he will shy away from now on. Bonnie caught one many years ago, once, and never fooled with another. Smell has to wear off and it takes a little while.
Mr. Ed, Stormy is liking it down here. she gets to walk on sand instead of snow! But its gonna get hot in a few months so I need to get her hunted up and in shape so she can deal with the heat. Going to try her out tonight, take care.
Jason Ole Magnum was a good one with a real good mouth on him. He defined deep and lonely with the meat. Mr. Frank would break out that old beep beep tracker on him more times in one night than he had to on the others in a month. He was a get gone, get deep, have the coon, tree dog.

Well I got done with my heart echo test this morning and the Doc said I never needed to come back. said I was a very low risk of ever having anything wrong with my heart as its fine and dandy now. Kidneys, Liver, everything is in fine shape. Said I could lose a few pounds, hunt harder for more exercise, BO will like that!, and my vitamin D was a touch low and I could lay out in the nude with my wife under the sun and that would fix that problem. I told him to write a script for some vitamins. 20 or 30 years ago I did plenty of that but these days nobody wanted to see a sight like that, not even the wife! Lol!! Doc said it was probably a Gal bladder problem or stomach problem I had when those pains hit me. It was great to hear all this but greater to get out of there and be headed home. Hard Hunting and Weight Loss here we come!!

Steve, glad to hear the results of your heart tests. I'm glad you got all that done. Now you and all the rest of us wont have to worry about all that. Glad you got Storm. I hope she works out in every way for you.

Chris, I have been on competition hunts before and one or two of the dogs would catch a skunk. The only thing about it is you dont have to guess whos dog caught it. The bad part about it if its your dog you still know what dog caught the skunk every time he gets wet for the next week or so. lol. Maybe that taught Wolf a good lesson. Take care.

MASONS FIRST HUNT

Mason has been with me around the house when we cut coons loose for pups and they treed them but he had never helped Paw Paw load the hounds into the truck, get the lights, leads, collars, rifle, snacks and drinks, boots, ect. and get to go real coon hunting as he calls it but tonight he did. I had talked to my son, Shane, and he was going to help me with Masons first hunt so Mason and I loaded up BO and the new gyp Stormy and off we went to Chatawa. We cut them down a spring fed creek that led to the river and after a while and no strike I looked at Garmin and Stormy had went right when they got to the river and Bo had went left. A few minutes later Stormy started opening and moving back our way but still nothing out of BO. Stormy fell treed 267yds out in front of us and she sounded good. Big, beautiful bawl mouth and the ole girl was calling us to come see. We went up trail a ways where a small field got close to her and on the way in I saw him looking at us. I videoed Shane and Mason as we came into her and will post video tomorrow. As we went into her I heard BO way up the swamp fall treed and looked at Garmin and he was 938yds away and near the Railroad Track. Got to Stormy and she was treeing on a huge vine that went into a huge water oak. We petted her up and started to BO. Mason was having a blast and didn't blind us with his light more than a dozen times! Lol! Having a great time and he was some proud that he got to go and the new dog had treed a coon and we were headed to his coon dog BO who was blowing the top out. I made a short video as we came into Bo's tree I will post tomorrow also. He was on a big leaner that went out over a creek and Bo was on the other side. Shane found the coon stretched out above a fork looking straight up. I asked Mason did he want me to shoot him or leave him to run again and he said, " Shoot him out Paw Paw!" alrighty well! So we put him down to Bo who was some happy to see him and we let Stormy meet him too. Took this picture and a few more and we made our way back down the RR Track to the truck. Mason talking about the hunt and a hoot owl cutting up in the swamp the whole way back. Just a wonderful night with my Son and Mason. We sat on the tailgate and drank some Dr. Pepper10 then headed home. Pulled in about 10pm and Mason was asleep in the car seat but woke up quick to show Beverly the coon we got as he had insisted we pack it out so him and Paw Paw could roast it up!! lol!! After Mason went to bed I asked my wife if she had a pork loin in the freezer and she said yes why? I told her we were cooking it tomorrow and calling it COON! Mason will love it!! Good Hunting that I will never forget!!

Steve , Just wanted to say thanks for selling Rain to me.. I like her , very smart pup.. Baby Stakes Ch. in the making..Here is a pic of her taking it easy in heated garage [ her temperary kennel]. Coming from your 70degree weather to our -0 temps and snow i thought it be best for her for awhile. She wants the wifes SUV out so she can have more room though..lol..
Glad your Doc report came back good .. Good luck wth Bo and your hounds..Thanks again...

Don't get no better than that

Steve, sounds like you had a great hunt. Your new dog split off and treed her a coon and did a good job on her first hunt with you. Bo did a good job and treed him one alone, and all this happened on your grandson Mason's first hunt. It don't get any better than that. I bet mason will like that roast coon.

KIDS AND HOUNDS

Thanks guys for the support and thinking of me as I waited for test results on my heart test that came back showing no problem with heart. It sure was great news to hear.
Coty, I agree, those are memories that will last our lifetime. It is a very real possibility that by the time Mason is my age there will be NO HUNTING of any kind in the good ole USA much less casting hounds. Sad but true so we going to enjoy it and keep making those memories every chance we get.
Murph, Ridge Running Reba looks like she has herself a great home and handler. I couldn't be more proud for both of you. When the thaw starts and those stinky coons come out looking for something to eat if you have her in the timber she will get them treed. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that she won the Baby Stakes. She is going to be a good one. Take Care.
MR. Jack, Mason and Paw Paw did have a great time and Shane did too. I was a little stressed when BO got across the RR Tracks but once he treed I felt he was safe from a train. I lost two hounds on those tracks many years ago about 1 mile south of where we were. I have treed a lot of coon in those swamps since then but its always in the back of my mind when one gets to close to those tracks. I can't wait to see Masons Moms face when he tells her he went coon hunting and we cooked the coon!

Great news and Story!

Steve,
Glad to hear your tests were good. Great story on Masons first hunt. You will never forget that for sure. Always nice to hunt with your Family and Friends. 99.9% of the time I hunt during the week by myself or my Son. I always enjoy that and he remembers the hunts like I do. Sounds to me like Bo is really turning into a nice dog. I think you have something special there. I would love to turn loose with Bo, Tramp II and Creek sometime. Not to see what dog is the best but just to see some nice young dogs and hunt with a couple of great guys in yourself and Jack.
Take Care,
Scott
