Stinky Ole Boars are breedin!!!

OOOOOweeee I just came in from the woods and smellin cooney!! LOL Took Samson and 7 mos old Speck (Weston Radleys pup) out on the snow tonite it got up to 40 today I just knew it felt right and sure enuff there were a lot of tracks in the snow running the ice on the creeks!

Leashed up the pups and didn't even make it 100 yrds from the kennel Samson struck off the leash. Looked down and sure nuff coon tracks. Young Speck put his nose down and immediately bellowed I cut em and low and behold Speck opened on track with a beautiful bawl and went every step with Samson. Samson got hung up in the apple orchard where coon had been feeding but young Speck took it on by himself for awhile. The boys went just over 300 yrds and both treed solid. By the time I got there Speck was hitting and coming off the tree as there were more tracks in the snow. Samson sat down and stayed put. First time in the woods I was happy Speck had treed some but he was just too tempted with all the scent to stay put. When Speck got on the tree again I shot the coon out and the boys had a good time shaking and wooling it. Petted them up and headed home to get the next set of dogs but got a call from the hospital my dad wanted to talk so called it a nite. Gonna be warm next few nites cant wait!!!

Way to go Doug, Sounds like you have another good young prospect to work with. I took my 6 month old pup last night with her momma (Holly) they ended up at about 750 yards treed across a deep snow filled hollow. Pup didn't tree , but when I got there I seen Holly had a double. I cracked out the biggest one (big bore) and Lizzie (the pup) fired up when that thing hit the ground. Well on the way back to the truck, Lizzie was running loose and struck. This is the first track she has ever opened on and she was pushing pretty good on this track. I held on to Holly to see if the pup would tree it by herself but she didn't. Next drop Dogs struck within about 75 yards and that little pup went right in and said momma, I'm gonna help you run this one, LOL.

Its always fun for me hearing a pup run and/or tree their first track. I was like a kid again. Good Luck with those young hounds, sounds like your gonna have a fun filled spring and summer!!

Wow 6 mos these pups just seem to be starting earlier and earlier but when a guy like you has been breeding a good line for years and knows his dogs it's bound to happen! Sounds like Lizzie will keep you hoppin!!! Good luck Dave and keep at it!!

Bob will be glad to hear you're still kicking! He is kicking too.. right now he and his band are down in the music room... I can hear them... they are probably all kicking... lol... They do have fun down there but they wont be making a living at it.

Stay warm... we are in a nasty spell... I still HATE winter but as I've said a bazillion times I'm sure...the pix keep me sane!

Havent posted in awhile

Lost my Dad the 2nd of Feb. We put a nice service together for him and had the American Legion and the Colorguard as part of the service. Two young Marines folded the flag, played taps and I had them present the flag to my older sister since I had lost my Mom in October. Then at the end had the doors open to outside where the local VFW fired off the three vollys of shots as a final farewell. My Dad was a WWII vet that served in Korea. We had in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Organization.

Wanted to say I am anxious to get my young prospects out as the weather starting to get nice. Sure loving these Sammy pups and Bluspeck grandson Samson.

Sorry to hear about your dad and your mom. I have never replied to your post before but, being a vet myself your dad had to sacrifice so much being a WWII AND KOREAN WAR Vet. What an Honor. Be very PROUD. Enjoy your post about the Silvertone hounds. I myself have some Silvertone bred hounds. I'll give you a call sometime and we can talk.

Sure sorry to read that you had lost your Father shortly after the loss of your Mother. That had to be rough on you and your family. It was good that you were able to honor your Father in such a deserving manner. I will continue to think of you in my prayers. Maybe better weather and time in the timber with your nice young hounds will help ease the pain some. There is something about a night in the woods with your hounds that helps clear the mind and give you peace. That is my wish for you Doug. Take care my friend.

Wed 3-16-16 hunt

I have been hunting the young dogs every chance I get and neglecting poor ole Bluspeck. It really kills him to be left behind when I load up the young guns so tonight I took ole Speck alone to get him out and spend some quality time in the woods with him. I don't like hunting him with young dogs he is just too fast and gets too deep for the pups.

Just as we pulled up to the woods and walking in the skies opened up but I figured what the heck we wouldn't melt, lol. Rain didn't last long. Cut Bluspeck he went in just over 600 yrds to the Southeast and struck along the creek and went another 320 yrd and treed. He never missed a beat and the fact I haven't hunted him since December I figured he would be a little out of shape but he had that steady 100 bark a minute chop on tree all the while I was walking in. I saw the coon as I approached the tree.

The lightning storm was approaching so I made a quick release along the creek he came treed just a few hundred yrds down and had two coon up.

By now the lightning was lighting up the sky and the rumble of thunder getting closer so we called it a night.

I didn't Performance Bluspeck this year and wouldn't you know it I have two people wanting to breed females so I guess I will. One is a Silvertone female so if anyone looking for double Silvertone bred pups let me know. The other actually is a nice Bluetick female the people want to breed and register the pups X-Bred.

Thanks Randy. Mom lived to be 90 and Dad would have been 89 in May. Both lived a good life and had many friends. When you get to the point where your quality of life is diminished and you hate to see them struggle, but as you get older you see it as a blessing when they pass of old age and you have to remember the good and fun times and remember they are at peace and in a good place. To me Life is all about family and setting a good example for the younger ones and Mom always said when you do something good it comes back on you three times. None of us are perfect, especially myself, but it all ties in together and makes more sense as you get older.

As always I'm looking forward to the new year and working these young dogs! Randy take care hope to see you at English Days I am going for sure this year!

Hey there you too Miss Heather hope all is well up there!! Just waiting on Spring to sprung! Thanks for the condolences it is no doubt hard on the family but it makes you stronger I believe. Been having a ball box trapping wild rabbits for my buddies beagle training pen while its been too snowy to coon hunt. Didn't even bother to set any muskrat of mink traps this year as the prices are low low low! Tell Mr. Bob I said hello from the wilds of NY!!! LOL Take care you two!

Bob says Hi Back...but Shudders about beagles...LOL.. Not sure I told you but... he grew up on a lil farm in MA and was in the midst of a hunting beagle kennel. Poor kid had to take care of more than 30 beagles at a time! The NOISE! When he would go out at night...and try to SNEAK back in late the lil dawgs would wake his folks. He learned if he was noisy, didn't TRY to sneak they ignored him. lol... He is funny...such a beagle snob. If we see a pet bred dog... he hates them so much. Fussy boy..........

Bluspeck's grandson has been doing a nice job treeing coon not perfect but a go hunting no quit accurate hound, He will turn two in October he will be tuff this fall.

Here he is treed with a coon tonight...coon moved early saw two on the road before dark on my way to the woods.

Coon on the outside of the den could be a good sign that young ones may be inside!!...
it wont be long before the hounds will have kitten coon tracks
going every which way to try and sort though "Fun Fun Fun"
