Ah Heck Sam we have to beat off the West Va. Guys around here anyway. You know its kinda not fair that we can't run in West Va. But when we start running here alot of West Va. Hunter show up.

But I gess thats the way it goes..
Sam anytime you get a chance we would love to have ya !! And if you want dinner thats good too..
I would like to show up at your next Bear Bash and play the Games it looked like you had a good time of it.
I think its only about 1-1/2 hours south at the most.

i got to call BS on the Lee Brothers hunting Majestics. i've seen the pics like everyone else AND while some are very houndy looking MOST look just like modern walker & english hounds. FWIW i got the brochure from Lee Newhart, so I know exactly where they started. Understand, this in NO WAY affects their qualities as working hounds. I just think it is silly to lay claim to a phony heritage, mostly because it is so rampant in the show fancy.

you might want to read up on how breeds originate since all but about a dozen of the over 400 known breeds in the world started w/or were finished by crossbreeding. the Majestics (as I understand it) are more than 4th & 5th generation and the breeders are selecting for a dog that is physically identical to the original cross (which is more houndy than coon & fox hounds but less so than pure bloodhounds).

i just love the looks of some of bill greens dogs- very houndy heads- long legs , arched back-- OMG they mite be crossbred- lol

bills grandsons are still running hounds-

i got a picture of a bayed bear that one of his great grandsons sent me- by email-- i just think its cool that he was a legend sorta to me and i can email or chat on puter with his grandson-

The way I see it , you could throw all crossbred dogs under a blanket and call them Majestics. Seems every time I ask what a Majestic is , the answer is always " a little bit of this and a little bit of that ".
If they were all that , everybody would have them.
The 2 I hunted with were both culls. One was mean as a snake and the other was his sister that never did anything. But , the guy who owned them sure thought they were something ! LOL

I tell ya Bill sure proved his hounds. I think I read that the Lee Bro. first trip to South American they Lost 18 hounds to Jag.s.. Then two years later Bill Green goes down by "Himself" and 8 hounds and Hammers the Jag.s.
Just the Thought of packing up your hounds and leaving your Wife and Kids for somewhere you have never been for 2-3 months at a time and then Beat everyones records for game treed and taken. Thats sure a Tough Fellow For Sure..

If their was a list of the Best Houndsmen and Hounds their is no dbout I my mind that "Bill Green" is and will allways be the Best their ever Was !!!

Again, I wasnt trying to get anyone upset with my statements. I even said I liked the look of some majestics...but come on now. I do take issue when anyone tries to rename a crossbred dog and make it an "official" breed.

Please dont assume I dont know what I'm talking about. I had bloodhounds as a kid, and I've NEVER seen one that had any treeing instinct what so ever! The have a great nose, but are VERY slow and methodical trackers. Bloodhounds were never used as tree dogs...EVER in history. They were always a pack dog that tracked, usually human but sometimes hoofed game. The majestic crowd is always bragging about the size of their dogs, and this is why they breed back to bloodhounds. If anyone on here has a pure bloodhound that will cut lose, run a track, and tree and stay treed on scent alone I'd love to hear about it.

Again, I like the looks of majestics..and as I've said I bet some can hunt. Some labs can tree a coon too though. I happen to have one. I'm not running out and breeding him to a bloodhound and calling the pups Super-spectaculicious bred hounds (or maybe I should lol). Thanks for the invite for the hunt...I'll have to pass though. I'm glad you're happy with your hounds, and again they look great. Maybe you can send me one to try some day. For me, give me a few cold nosed gritty 60lb. redticks and look out tree game. the dozen or less are all Pariah types from extremely isolated areas like the central african Basenji dogs & the laikas of remote siberian "nomads." there MAY (although i doubt it) also be some primitive sighthounds & molosser types from remote areas that are uncrossed w/ outside dogs. even this may be proven false once a complete map of the dog genome is developed.

you're still missing the point, pretty much all known breeds originate as crosses or had other blood crossed in to improve it. Understand I am not a majestic guy, nothing against them just not my cup of tea, but (as i understand it) Lee's line was founded over 30 years ago and has been consistantly reproducing itself w/o outcrossing to bloodhounds for more than half that time by careful selection of his breeding stock. so please explain to me when a crossed up line becomes a breed.

Okay Im no breeder just a halfassed hunter. But boy Majestic, I can sure see you love your majestics but Im thinking a little too much lol.

Thats a neat little video clip and dogs look good, but heck so does your golden lol. I might use a roller on pups but thats it.

Do you have any video/pics of a bayed bear or cat? or one treed? How long have you personally bred/hunted these majestics on big game?

Im only asking this cause your on here pushing em as big game dogs, but I have never heard any reports about em. I aint calling BS on you cause I dont know.

When you come out and crow about em, on a big game forum, you should have something better than grown hounds working a roll caged coon video.

Now I dont mean any disrespect to you. But come on, "Started/Finished 18-24 month hounds sell from $4500- $6000"??? How many bears and cats have they seen by then?? You dont really have much of a bear season in Va.

Whose buying these hounds? Heck whos buying your $650 pups? Cause I'll run out and get some bloodhound blood and make my own "Majestics" and maybe retire early lol.

Seriously, I'll be the first to admit I like the looks of them big houndy looking critters but $650 a pup? and theyre going out to serious hunters?

PM me 10 references from bear hunters and maybe if theyre really that good I'll book one and give folks an honest report, but good luck on the started finished 4500-6000$ lol.

My advice, Id save the roller for young pups and maybe once or twice.. especially for bear dogs. But heck if your making that much on your majestics maybe I should be taking advice from you lol

in the pictures of bill greens hounds ive seen --

the dogs were alot lighter than pictures of majestics ive seen

thats all i know about either one- is looked at pictures --

it isnt easy to get that "racy" build and the houndy head in dogs we have now-

its easy to get one or the other -- in the same breed

i think the closest thing ive seen to bill greens dogs in looks is a "maryland hound " i had once-

tri colored foxhound-- one of loudest voice i ever heard on a hound and had long thin ears- long nose


wasnt what id call a typical foxhound
he was cold nosed ,,HUGE BAWL MOUTHED dog-

i had a real 'dog expert " come to my place once-

looked my dogs over --- told me which ones were fastest coldest nosed etc -- he could tell just by looking --

he wasnt even close- lol
ive never been able to tell alot about a dog by looking at pictures---im kinda dumb and have to hunt with them alot before i know anything about them

but still , i cant help but form an opinion by looking at dogs or pictures of dogs myself --lol
