Hank sure sounds like he is making a nice one. Got a good report on another brother to him and Annie and G-Man yesterday. He is in Mississippi and got a 3rd in his first UKC hunt last weekend and Mark says he is a harder, louder tree dog than the rest of the litter that I have posted videos of. He is also a purty fellar that is a show champion with a win towards grand. Hear good things about one in the far North of upstate New York also.....sure looks like this is gonna turn out to be a pretty decent cross

Below is a video of 2 young hounds that are products of the program that Shane has been putting countless hrs and a lot of energy in creating. I must say that the results has been very Enjoyable and want to give a Huge thank you to Shane !!! Izzy is from the Jet x Bree cross and Imus is from the JJ Jr x Billie Jean cross.

Those are a couple of nice pups from a couple of really nice crosses. Thanks for investing your time and effort into both of them.
And I know you been a walker man for years and have had many titled big winning walkers .....thanks for giving the redbone breed a try and I hope you will want to stick with this breed and maybe try another one someday....shane

She was bred to Outlaw Billy the Kid semen on Dec 15th

It would be a close cross.....same daddy (Ranger) and mothers are littermate sisters....
What do you think...too close? How bout Kelly...has he crossed that close before?

It all depends on the dogs that you are breeding and their traits. You can't go by just the papers, you have to consider the dogs. If you really like the dogs themselves, then you should like the pups. Ranger was an outcross and I believe that the mothers were also. Check out Haze's pedigree or Wilma's.

I was thinking Wilma and Wanda out of the same cross? I hunted with Wanda once. What are some others out of that cross I may have hunted with more than just wanda.

Wilma, Wanda, Winnie, Link, Rachel, Bucky, Thunder, The Big King Richard........Do a search on the Redbone Forum for the post....Moose X Windy Pups..... that Buck started. Also look at Haze's littermates. Haze was not the only nice dog in that cross. If you want a whole litter to turn out nice, linebreed good dogs out of good litters and you get good pups. If you want to try to just get one exceptional pup, then outcross a good male to a good female and gamble on getting a good pup.

I would and have crossed dogs that close. Keep in mind that Ranger crossed on a Doc/Fiddle female was a true outcross. Not much in common on either side yes there is some Jessie in Doc but I still contend this was an outcross. I think breeding two closely related dogs that are out of an outcross themselves just strengthens the rope.
I Think this method of line breeding outcross dogs is the way to improve a line the quickest. Just cross the ones with the most good traits in common. Easy peasy

Yes Outlaw Jessie is present in both Ranger and Doc's pedigrees.... but like you say...it is pretty far back with a lot of unrelated breeding in between so technically Woody is linebred Outlaw Jessie top and Bottom....but does looks more like an outcross to me also. However, by breeding woody to Outlaw Billy Jean who is directly out of Outlaw BTK on top and also goes back to him and Outlaw Jessie on the Bottom through Kate....that cross would be a little more concentrated with Outlaw blood.
I like to line breed to a point where most of the offering show similar and consistent traits I like.... and once that is pretty solid and repeatable within that line....outcross to try to add some desired traits that are not.
All our females have really good volume and are quick locating hard tree dogs. I feel like that is almost a given now...a pretty predictable trait for pups from this line. Some are very quick strike dogs...while others are not so quick to open...so that is something we are still trying to improve upon and why we are looking to cross on quick striking, open trailing colder nosed studs like Woody, Ripsaw, and Aftershock, etc. That is just one example of the type of things we want to improve to the point that its a given in our line of redbones. I think specific targeted breeding....whether it be line breeding or out crossing is the way to improve our line and we must, must, must match up a high % common traits between the male and female as a first priority and then look for males from lines that are dominant in the desired trait we want to add. By doing so...even if we dont connect and are not able to add that trait into every puppy....at least we are keeping / strengthening the traits that are common to the foundation we already have. Still.....from everything I have learned over the years and from studying breeding....when trying to add a trait from an outcross, the offspring that actually will pick up and show that new desired trait is probably only going to be 20-30% of the litter. Once those traits are identified in the pups who have them (assuming all else is good) then those and only those particular pups would be the ones a breeder would line breed for a few generations on the side of the pedigree that the desired trait came from to lock that trait in until it becomes common and repeatable.
This kind of breeding program takes many years and many generations...and one has to stay on target. But, in the end...I believe it is one way, maybe the only way to produce litters with a high % of commonalities where a majority ( not a minority) of the litter posses the desired traits the breeder wants all rolled up into a high % of the pups from each litter.
On average ....as per reproducers lists...particularly the females list. At present our best reproducing females average 15%-25% ( excluding Kate) I believe through targeted breeding like I described above that within 5 or so years...we could see that % double on average. That is one of my goals going forward...to increase the % of pups from the crosses we make that are good enough to earn a title in competition. I already place almost every pup in the hands of competition hunters so the answer is not to win more with same amount of dogs....but to produce a higher % of dogs from each litter who are better equipped to compete and capable of winning more.

Looks like Gr.Nt.Ch. and 2010 National Redbone Days Champion Miss Piggy is for sure bred by Dual Grand Ch. 1993 National Redbone Days Champion Outlaw Billy the Kid and her owner has asked me to help him get the pups in the right hands. She is due on Feb 14th. I will be posting more details of the cross soon...

Just finished a heated floor whelping Box and moved Gr.Nt.Ch. and 2010 National Redbone Days Champion Brewin's Miss Piggy into it. Piggy is quite large and is due to have her litter of piglets out of Dual Grand Ch and 1993 National Redbone Days Champion Outlaw Billy the Kid this weekend on Valentine's Day we are hoping for a lot of bacon!
