How you been RTO?!?

I’d like to pitch in an AMEN!

Them 90% accurate dogs are out there in bunches too

Just not in my kennel

To all you men looking, would you price it to someone else looking if you had it?

More importantly, what needs to change in the blue dog world to make the sought after hound of this post a reality? Heaven forbid, even multiple individuals to choose from?

Vic

Hey ole buddy Now u know u will get into trouble for not being politically correct. I know there are some outstanding blue dogs out there but folks see dogs with winnings on them or money won and think that that makes em the real deal. Well if you believe that then u ain’t been in the comp world long. Sad to say but u know the truth hurts sometimes. Dogs with money won on em never been to the woods or had their cast bought. Goes on ever major event not saying just blue dogs but in every breed. Do u call that a real deal dog or a fake. What’s bad is I have seen a dogs handler do what ever it takes to win regardless and have a dog that could win with out the cheating. Said all that to make ya wonder just how many real deal dogs are they in any breed. Hmm

Vic can I have a Amen.

Bob i sold the dog to him a little over a month ago at a very very fair price he is a good buddy of mine he is a nice younger hound at 20 months old i got mad and priced him with the agreement that he would give me first shot at him back. The dog is still not a polished hound in my opinion but gettin close.

Perry i havent seen many i would give big money for cause i dont have big money to give. The bluetick breed doesnt offer too many serious contenders in my opinion trust me i wish there was more because im a diehard fancier of the breed. Its not hard to find bluedogs that tree coon but it is hard to find one that does it the right way night in and night out and my idea of the right way may be different than others but thats a whole different subject. I enjoy messin with young dogs and watchin them progress ALONE but if they dont have the extra im lookin for someone else can enjoy them and i start over

Trey

I am the same way. When u have a young one that is showing potential sure makes it easier to put them boots in and hit the woods. What I like most would kill and that’s ok cause we all have different needs in a dog. We can go in and on but until the breed starts admitting that we have problems with what we are breeding it ain’t goin to get any better. It’s all a crap shoot with what crosses best anyway or I think it is. Well good luck to all. Hope u find or get lucky and have what u want

All I want is a Blue dog that looks and sounds like a blue dog and when you cut him he goes hunting hard with or without dogs, strikes in when he smells a coon trail that track and tree the coon on the other end no matter how far he has to go to do it and no what other dogs are doing around him. I have had 1 or 2 like that over the years but cant seem to find another one.

Looks

Like most on this thread are looking for pretty much the same hard to find harder to buy hound. That’s one reason for the high prices.

IMO

The reason these are so hard to find is because most people now a days just got the idea they’ll go buy this dog! Well if nobody is hardcore training or hunting those young dogs right then guess what? They won’t be any for sell because they’re non existent! And If someone does have him Or her they ain’t for sell. Everyone is so busy with other things in life like everything else we want super dog right now today. Just my opinion

This has turned into an eye opening post and thanks for all the responses. I hope I don’t offend anyone for the next few comments that I am about to make. I am not lookin for a hound that is capable of winning all the major bluetick hunts, but rather be able to compete and win at events such as super stakes, breeders show case, nationals and the world. I am not looking for a hound that scores 900+ when all packed up together. Here is what I would like to have, 100/75 strike dog treed alone with the coon and it takes 45mins to walk to him/her. I will take my chances with 350+/400+ all over the country and I believe the hound will win more than it loses.

That

Dog will win big where I live and more than not anywhere.

Dog power

Too me winning is winning whether u do it at bluetick major events superstakes nationals your local club etc. Without bluetick major events some of your diehard bluetickers wouldnt come around and dont ask me why i dont have the answer. A coon treein hound with plenty of heart independece accuracy etc will win his fair share but even the best get beat. The sophmore spring superstakes had one that competed till the buzzer and from the looks of it he seemed pretty consistent. I root for any bluedog competing and will continue to do so whether its mine or yours. I have owned bluedogs out of every line imaginable im a hunter not a breeder if its blue and shows me eyes i will hunt it.

I'll take that same dog and it can be a 50/25 strike dog. As long as it hunts HARD, stays alone, and has coons when it parks.

I have treed 3 coons for 375 and got beat by a dog that treed 2 for 400, but not many times.

The dog you described may not win in some places, but it sure will in my country and lots of other places I have hunted!

Prices are sure getting ridiculous. Saw 10k given for one I wouldn't feed. Pretty crazy...

In a nutshell, the problem with the breed is far bigger than any one person can fix alone. It's going to take a number of like minded people with the same idea of what kind of dog they want, to join together and be willing to accept what they want is several generations of breeding away. Then to have the perseverance to see it through and the honesty with themselves to stay on course and not deviate from the plan. Right now there is very little consistency in what many blue dogs are throwing, regardless of how good they are themselves, because of too many dogs in their 3 generation that should have never been bred. Until those are weeded out by breeding TWO of the right kind together, rather than willing to able, followed by hard no nonsense culling, there will continue to be a shortage of the elusive blue unicorn we are all looking for. Just my humble opinion.

I don't know the answer. I know years ago you could pick up the phone and find one in a few weeks if you looked hard enough. Not many real coonhunters anymore. Folks are easier to please for the most part. Males are run at stud with faults that would have gotten them culled years ago. LOTS of folks claim to have the right kind... I guess all those aren't for sale either!

Boys you better call Henry Blessing with the Rage female in Memphis Missouri.. Won at the Bear creek and I have hunted with her a lot . She is as you are looking for DEEP and ALONE. Nice female and dang nice fella packing her but I think you better get deep into that wallet if you are wanting her, but just throwing it out there for ya.. Henry is a great guy and Rage is a nice dog and I don't have a dang thing to gain by saying so other than I don't have to walk 2 miles anymore when I draw her. lol nice fella, nice dog.

Justin, I think you've hit the nail about as square on the head as possible

It all plays in with society as a whole today ... Instant gratification granted through wallet!

Everyone is in the buy one mode, not many in the make one mode any more.

Even if someone were to try & cater to folks looking for young blue dogs that are capable of competing in multiple KC's at an elite level, your potential buying audience would be an extremely limited one. Not many bluetickers are interested in producing or training a hound of that style, or competing in other registries. Any guess is as good as mine as to why

I would love to train one but what stud dog out there is throwing pups with a loud Blue tick hound bawl mouths that hunts hard no reverse by himself or with other dogs good chop mouth tree dogs (no chewing) that trees coon no matter what other dogs are doing.

Raising one

That would be great but how many have I gone through to only find out after a couple of years to find out it is just a common dog. Everyone’s idea of a coon dog is different. We all have different needs in a dog. So I have been in search for the kind I like for a long time to only have spent a lot of time and money with out finding one. It just seems to me by buying one saves a lot of time in the woods with one that is not goin to make the grade. Sure it would be nice to say that u raised and spent the time with the dog to get it to that level of being a stomp down coon treer. To be honest with ya I really don’t know that I have it in me to spend almost every night in the woods to get one comp ready again. It takes dedication to the dog to be able to have one clicking and when it is u better be burning the road up goin to hunts. On another note I can remember leaving the house to go hunt and before turning loose listen to see if I hear anyone else Hunting in the area. Not anymore because there isn’t anyone around here coon hunting like they used too. Lots of talk about hunting but not really goin enough to get one tuned up or goin good. I think that plays a big part in not having the right kind of dogs out there. JMO

Well

Here is my story. I’m to old and don’t hunt hard enough to train one anymore. I have no problem with people putting these prices on dogs that’s certainly their business. I just not giving 15 to 20 k for a dog. Where I live there are way to many things that can happen to them and tick diseases is epidemic around here and so far I have never had one make a full recovery. And yes if i had the real deal he could be bought for that kind of money. I don’t have the answer I know like some have said there aren’t near as many people training top hounds as years ago. The days of getting on the phone and finding a good one in a few hours is over with especially at what I feel is a price I want to pay. I’ll end by saying that I’m sitting here with phone in hand ready to come look at one if it sounds like what I want. I won’t take much of your time usually one turn out and I will know if I want it. I’m limited on when I can come because of very very sick mother but will find the time. I have thought of other breeds but just don’t think I can do it.
