Show Time looks like a BIG DAWG on his first night to the wood's. Got to love it!!! Dave I hope to see you this weekend.

Show

Buck you are right my face has a smile that is brighter than the sun right now. Show-Time's full name is and always will be PR T-TOP SHOW-TIME COON STOPPER. We hope to get some letters in front of the name also and I am sure we will. When I was going to breed Cherry to Dagger Buck, I told Tom that I was going to call the male pup Show-time Coon Stopper that I was to keep.( Kennel name Ace,after an old coon hunter friend of mine that has passed on, Ace Hoover from W.VA. ) With Dagger passing on I saved this name for that special pup Tom was helping me find and he is here. He is out of Dagger brother. I will be going to pick him up this week end and Buck I sure am looking foward to seeing you and Pastor Mike this Friday. That was great to hear about Show-Time, Tom and Dave. I feel spring is one of the best times to start a young dog and ST is just the right age. He is a looker too. I am so happy to hear the news about his first hunt that I may be able to do a flip Buck. My Biththday is the 22 of March and I couldn't get a better present. Thanks for all your help Tom. You are the TopDog in my book. Dave P.S. When I came in to work this morning we had a break down I had to help with so I just now looked at this and it was a good surprise. Moose and Show-time on the wood together in the Fall Buck is my Goal.

Thanks for the props

Richard-Moose is an "on the wood" tree dog just like Rabble and Sally. Just a nice combination of their traits. I'll see if I can get a few more pics of "Da Moose" tonight.

Buck-Thanks for the hug! I felt it all the way in Wisconsin. It takes a few reps for me with that high tech equipment that Tom buys.

Mike-Pics are getting better but the shooting is on hold until next fall Season's closed But the last one I shot out didn't move an inch after it hit the ground. Dead on contact. I might not need a gun if Moose can catch them all on the ground. A few shakes and Mr. Coon was dead.

Woofter-Show Time, "Ace" is an awesome prospect. He has all the goods to make a "Top Dog" Good luck with him!! The training bill is in the mail
Talk to you soon.

Moose

Dave loaded up Moose last night and headed for the woods. I didn't talk to him last night but he had a few pictures from two different trees on the camera this morning. I'll add the story when I talk to him later on.

Moose on the wood...love this tree style...

A little bug eyes and teeth for Richard...

Dave is getting to be a real artist...

One more for good measure...

The coons are moving good if you can find any kind of food source. The snow is still pretty deep on the north side but when it gets dark, it freezes hard and is getting easier to walk on in most places.

Moose is doing good for his first few times being singled out...we'll look forward to seeing how he handles competition later on this spring but he's a pretty nice young hound.

Good hunt

Dave Woofter was at our place yesterday afternoon so we figured we'd have to get him out at least for one drop before he rested up and left early this morning. We loaded up Yank and Moose and got one good dump in...

Moose and Yank...looking good...on the wood

Got the meat...

Dave W. was on a pretty tough turn around but we wanted to share at least one dump with him. He and I stayed on the road while Dave took the dogs down across the creek and turned them loose along a standing corn field. I don't know how far they went but struck pretty quick and lined it out of the corn field and up the side hill. They went about 500 yards by the GPS and we got to listen to both dogs locate and load up on a tree and man oh man...it sounded good. It took Dave a little while to get up to them and then we could see the camera flashing and he did a good job of getting some real nice shots of the dogs and the coon.

We enjoyed the visit with Dave and the nice female pup that he brought us is a real nice acting pup out of Haze and Adam's female. Dave loaded up Shadow and Show Time (Ace) and headed back east early this morning...some time between 3:00 - 4:00 AM. I just talked to him and he's closing in on Indianapolis IN, so he's making real good time. He said he got the dogs out to do their business and Shadow did her job but Ace was up on his hind legs with his nose in the wind looking for a coon to chase. It didn't take him long to get with the program so now when he gets hauled and turned loose...he expects to find a coon somewhere.

We'll look forward to the updates on Ace as he grows through this spring and summer.

Slobber mouthed, bug eyed, teeth showing, toe nails dug in; it just keeps getting better! I can't wait until June to see this in person. If anyone else heads up that way, let me know. I sure would like to hitch a ride.

Posted by topdog on 03-07-2010 08:23 PM:

Richard...

Yep...they looked real good and sounded even better. The ground is opening up a little bit on the south side and this coming week is supposed to be near 50 a couple of days and above freezing overnight so hopefully we'll have open ground to hunt on pretty quick...then the real work begins.

You're welcome to come any time Richard, the dogs are getting in a little better shape as each week passes and it won't be long and they'll be hard as an oak bark shingle and ready to go. We're aiming to get them in decent shape by the first of April because that's when the competition events around here get going pretty good...I may even try and get Moose on the bench a few times and see how he handles it. He's got the goods to win in the right hands...

More to come...

Trip

Want to Thank Tom and Dave for every thing. It was a quick trip for an old man but was real nice. Tom and I went out for lunch when I got there and then Dave came over and we made a drop with Da Moose and Yank. The dogs did a great job strike and tree. Da Moose has a great mouth and came on the tree with two big bawl locates that any kid could call and then went into a nice loud chop. Got Showtime ( Ace ) home and he is a great acting young dog. Tom told me he is the first pup he has had that reminded him of Rabble Rouser when he was a pup. I got him out by a woods to do his business and he just stood on his hind legs and winded wanting loose to go hunting. Hauled him 788 miles and he acted like I just haul him 5. Didn't get sick or bark in the box and was ready to get it on when his feet hit the ground. Richard you could have went with me but it was a quick turn around. Dave P.S. Had a great lunch with My Va friends Buck,Pastor Mike,Pastor Mike's Dad and Roger Hall ( Roger lives in the country by Kingston OH. ) Friday night at Chillicothe before I left for Tom's. The female I took Tom out of Haze was sure a nice acting Bold young dog.

Rufus

Depending on your point of view...I guess that's a good thing. We like a dog to hunt when we turn them loose but I'll have to admit that the older I get, the more I can appreciate a dog that will hunt a patch and come back...we just don't have one like that at the moment.

I'm glad he's getting with the program Mark, it takes a dog man to make a dog...and some boot time...can't forget that...eh?

Codger

Main Entry: cod·ger
Pronunciation: \ˈkä-jər\
Function: noun
Etymology: probably alteration of cadger
Date: 1756
: an often mildly eccentric and usually elderly fellow <old codger>

I guess I mispelled codger-anyways who would think a dog could get too deep except for an old codger. Time to get in shape and start walking some of these Mississippi River bluffs.

Woofter-If Ace gets too deep for you and you can't find any Amish boys to help you out please send him back. Are you sure it's once in a blue moon that you stand on the road? I'll have to ask Fran about this at Holmesville. I sure liked the story about the bear in the woods and Fran hiding in the truck with the door open.
Dave

Codger

Ah Ha! Now it's starting to make sense...I thought maybe we were on the verge of inventing a new word I kind of liked the sound of it though...CHOGGER...yep...that kind of has a ring to it.

Seeing as how a "little old" and maybe a "lot eccentric" is part of the definition...we'll proabably have to live with the fact that it's a pretty accurate description...eh?

Getting in shape is just around the corner...walking these Miississippi River bluffs?? The jury is still out on that one...a man has to know his limitations...

We're supposed to get rain over the next few days and the temperature in the mid to upper 40s...that's a good thing...the snow is disappearing a little more by the hour.

Don't you worry Ace has found a home and I bet when I am done with him you will have to go get him off a tree when turned loose. That how I like mine to hunt. Have a good day. Dave

Hunt

Dave hunted either Yank or Moose or both together over the last 3 nights and had pretty good success under some miserable conditions. The temperature has been pretty good but extremely foggy at night and drizzling most of the time.

Thursday night it was Moose alone making one tree with the coon seen and a long track ending in a hole with the coon seen way in the back.

Friday night it was Yank and Moose together with two tracks and two coons seen and then..."one last drop"...it was a mile later and in a hole

Last night it was Yank alone with two tracks and two coons seen and back home by 9:30 PM. The fog wasn't so bad last night and it made for a better night of hunting.

Pup update:
The Yank and Val litter is due this week and is looking like it could be any minute now. This cross is heavy T-Top and Outlaw and Yellow River breeding.

The Moose and Leinie litter is due next week and she is for sure carrying a load. Leinie is an extreme athlete and built like a greyhound...but not at the moment...she looks like she'll have a good litter. This cross should prove some of the best of the T-Top line with double Rabble Rouser and tripling up on Rat.

The Yank and Angel litter is due the last week of the month give or take a few days. Angel is very big and it looks like she's going to have a real nice litter. This cross will provide heavy T-Top and Hoffmeister breeding at its best.

There are a few pups spoken for from each of these litters. When pups are on the ground and after about a week, I'll ask for deposits to hold a pup. These pups present a great opportunity to get some T-Top blood in your program or for your pleasure in the woods.

These will be the last litters we produce for at least a couple of years. Pups may be available from select females brought in to mate to Yank or Moose but we will not be raising litters again here for awhile.

Price is $200 picked up here. If you are looking to get some very good blood at a reasonable price...here is your chance.
