last nights hunt
I hunted Joe by himself last night. 1st drop I cut Joe lose and he left on the run. He dropped in fast and got struck at 650 yards. He took a old feeder or rutting Bore coon track 900 yards, working the track the way I like. Joe put a good amount of distance between barks and the track improved on the way. He never bogged down, and did a nice job. Joe ended up treed on a big den tree. 2nd drop I cut Joe across an open field about 150 yards to the woods. He left like he was shot out of a canon. I had my light on him as he cut across the field. At about 80 yards he slammed on the breaks, threw his head up cut left and opened up. He took a track about 400 yards and slammed a tree. The coon was in a small ash. I saved this coon for another run some other night. I walked about 20 yards from the tree and cut Joe. Again he left on the run. Joe went about 500 yards and struck another older track. He took the track 780 yards and treed on another den. Joe did a real nice job on all three drops, I called it a night with all good and no bad.
Dave here is a picture of Bounce, he is out of Chief / Lucky cross, just turned (2) years old. Working on a few minor things but he has to the tools as he is quick on both ends, not junky and will get tree quick and stays treed. We are hunting pups with him right now and he handles them very good. Planning on hunting him at Bluetick days all three nights and may hit a hunt or two prior to Bluetick Days. He should finish pretty quick!

Bounce
Corey, I am Glad to see Bounce is being hunted hard, and is going to be given the chance to compete in competition this year. Good luck and have fun.
hoss hunt
I hunted Hoss last night. 1st drop he struck at 210 yards He give about 3 barks and come treed. I didn't like the way it sounded. Hoss was not treeing hard and just didn't sound right. He was treed on a big maple and it was slick. I pulled him off and give him a couple gentle swats with a switch. He restruck at 200yards and worked a track in a hemlock swamp for about 10 minutes before treeing solid on a big hemlock. I couldnt find the coon, but it was impossible to see the whole tree. 2nd dump I cut Hoss and he struck at 560 yards. He took the track and treed at 780 yards. When I got to the tree he was treed on a small pine that leaned into a big den tree. It was snowing pretty hard and I called it a night. Its tough hunting in these hemlock swaps, But the coon love to hit the water holes around the hemlocks. I always have my best luck treeing coon in them this time of year. I was really happy to see Hoss get deeper on his own to get struck. This is the first time I haven't had to head towards him to get him to go a little farther. It didn't take him much time to get to the 560 yards that he struck at. I am now confident that I will have no problem getting him to hunt hard by himself, He should improve every time he is hunted.

Joe does better ever time out. He has always had all the tools, Just needs to put it all together. He is coming along well. Still has somethings he needs to improve on, but I think it will all come together for him. thanks again for selling him to me. take care Dave
cold
It is too cold for this old man to hunt. -9 yesterday am -15 this am. I think it may have reached 2 yesterday. Good news is I will be headed south sometime this week or next week. I am waiting for clear roads and a little bit better temps. Too cold to haul dogs when its below 0. looking forward to 65 and sunny. take care Dave
I bought a new side by side to coon hunt off. I spent 3 hour on it yesterday plowing snow. We got about 2 feet in about 10 hours. I cant wait to use the unit for what I purchased it for.
SIDE BY SIDE
Dave you will love that side by side when you start hunting out of it. Saves a many a step. Hope Spring comes early for you so you can put it to use hunting. It has down here as we didn't have much of a winter at all. The next 10 days looks like everyday in the 70's. Take Care and enjoy that new ride.

I am looking forward to them saved steps. I used the side by side for deer season, and it worked great. My son and I do a lot of still hunting together. We parked a wheeler at each end of the woods and it saved a lot of extra steps. I still plan on getting a litter out of Dan this year, and I haven't forgotten the pup I owe you. take care Dave

hunt
I hunted Joe last night. 1st drop I cut lose in a field about 100 yards from the woods. Joe left on the run. In about 4 minutes Joe opened twice and fell treed at 475 yards. I went to him, and he was treed on a big cherry tree with the coon all balled up in a fork of the tree. 2nd drop I cut Joe into the woods. Joe struck at about 450 yards right handed took a fast track about 100 yards to the south, then did a big u and headed back towards me. He was smoking the track, and I began to wonder if it was a coon. I had my Garmin in hand just in case. About 30 seconds after I pulled out the Garmin he come down hard on the tree with 2 killer locates and flipped it over. He was treed on a big willow tree with the coon stretched out on a limb as high as he could clime. 3rd drop I cut Joe on the edge of a field. This time he did not break hard. Joe cut to the left and worked an area about 100 yards from me. He spent a lot of time in an area about 200 by 200 yards. He finally opened twice. and kept working in the same spot. As I watched on my Garmin the screen began to look like a big pile of spaghetti. He tapped two trees and kept working He finally worked it out and took a cold track and worked into a good running track. Joe treed on a small Maple tree with the coon stretched out about 20 feet up on the side of the tree. All though he beat and bagged more than I like once he got it lined out he did a nice job. Joe ended up treed about 750 yards from the pile of spaghetti on the Garmin. I called it a night. The last two times out Joe has made 6 trees Two big Dens. Four with a coon. He is starting to hunt harder and faster. I hope he keeps improving because I like what I see.
hunts
It has been windy and cold here last few days. Low teens at night and 20s during the day. Weather is going to flip this weekend, so Joe, Hoss and I will be back in the timber.
Hunt
I hunted Joe last night. I was planning on taking Hoss, But It was 25 degrees and we have bout 4 to 6 inches of hard crusty snow in the woods, so I decided to take Joe. Joe is a 2 years old and I felt it would be better to hunt him. 1st drop Joe struck at 200 yards. He run a hot short track about 50 yards and treed on a Den. I walked him about ten yards from the tree and recasted him. Joe left on the run, and struck about 200 yards from me. It was a cold track and he marked a tree 2 times before he settled on it. Joe only took the track about 175 yards. The tree was slick. I Give him a good tug on the lead told him no coon, give him 2 butt swats with a switch. I recasted him about four steps from the tree. Joe left with his nose to the ground circled me a couple of times checked a few trees than headed out. Joe struck at 275 yards from the slick tree. He took a cold track another 400 yards and treed. Joe had the coon on the out side on a big Maple tree. I moved to a new spot. Joe struck a track at 300 yards and warmed it up to a good running track. He took it across a cut corn field and was headed to the other side of the block. I was about 200 yards from the truck and started to it. I stopped to listen when I got to the truck. Joe was treed. The Garmin had him at 975 yards. When I got to the road on the south side of the block the Garmin had him over a mile away. I drove around the block and when I got to the north side of the block I watched the distance click away on the Garmin. I was able to drive 50 yards from him. He was treed in someones front yard. I was going to knock on the door, but the dog was closer than the door so I grabbed him and left. I never turned my light on or checked the tree. No one seemed to have been bothered, I wanted to keep it that way. next drop I turned Joe lose and he fell treed at 490 yards on the Garmin. He was treed on a big Den . I called it a night.
HUNT
hunted Joe Made 2 trees seen both coon. 3rd dump he got across the block. I drove around and picked him up before he crossed the road.
hunt
I hunted Hoss last night. 1st drop Hoss struck at about 250 yards worked a track about 150 yards and treed. Hoss was treed on a big hemlock. It was the same hemlock that I treed with Dozer opening night of coon season. I had same result. I couldn't find the coon, But I felt he had it. I walked a short distance from the tree and cut Hoss again. I was glad to see that he didn't attempt to go back to the tree. Hoss hunted out 650 yards than did a big u and came back by me. He was headed back toward the road that we started on. I started back to the truck. I got with in 100 yards of the truck and sat down on a log. I watched on the Garmin as Hoss worked the area. He never got very deep, But went 400 to 500 yards in several different directions. After about 20 minutes he fell treed with out a ground bark. He was 425 yards back the same direction I had just come from. I walked back to him and he was treed on another big hemlock. I didn't find the coon. It could have been their, but I felt I should have found it. I called it a night.
Joe
Dave I liked Joe the few times I hunted with him. He was independent and got hooked with a coon.

Congrats Chris! Its good to see jazz in the winners circle. Good luck with her in the up coming hunts. You have put a lot of time an effort in to make her what she is. Joe is coming along. I still need to be patient with him, But I see improvement every time out. take care Dave
Hunt
I hunted Joe. 1st drop he struck at 250 yards run a short pop up treed and had the meat. I took about 10 steps off the tree and recasted him. He went about 100 yards and opened. He took the track with in a few feet of the tree he just treed on 2 or 3 times. I felt it was the same coon. When he worked his way back out to where he struck I was able to get a switch on his butt and get him to move out. Joe struck again at 330 yards and worked an old track. He went about 150 yards located a couple of times on a tree twice. The 3rd time he started chopping for about 45 seconds than moved on. If I was in a hunt I would have ate the tree minus. I marked the tree with the Garmin. Joe went another 250 yards with the track, and began to warm it up. I went in and I checked the tree he had started to tree on. It was easy to see there was no coon. It was a good lesson for me not to be so quick on the trigger. Joe took the track about 450 yards and come down hard on the wood. As I went in he was treeing every breath. I seen the coon and give Joe a couple of that a boys. I called it a night
hunt
I hunted Joe last night. On the first drop It was like hunting his Dad. I cut him lose in the woods. Joe left on the run. In about 3 minutes he struck at 490 yards. In about 7 minutes he was treed at 783 yard. As I walked to him he was lighting it up. Joe was treed on a cherry tree with the coon stretched out as high as he could climb. As I walked back to the truck Joe was winding and getting up on his back legs. I should have cut him again, But I didn't want to end up on some near by posted land. 2nd drop I cut Joe across an open field to he woods. He raced across the field into the woods. I walked to the edge of the woods and listened. after a few minutes Joe opened at about 400 yards. The woods has fields on the west side and the south side like a big L. I walked to the south side of the woods and got even with Joe. He was in a swamp that has a lot of fallen over willow trees and tree tops along a small creek. Joe struggled on the track, and once again the Garmin showed a big pile of spaghetti. As I watched the Garmin,
His swings got a lot larger and he final lined it out. Joe took the track 350 yards back towards the truck and slammed a tree. He was treed on a small ash with the coon once again stretched as high as it could climb. I let Joe tree for bit, give him a pat on the head. We headed back to the truck and called it a night.
hunt
I have not hunted last 3 nights, rain, fog and family commitments. I will be back at it tonight.
hunt
I hunted Joe last night. I have had several good hunts, so a was due for one that wasn't as good. Last night was it. It was one of those nights where you go home scratching your head tying to figure out what the heck your dog was doing. 1st drop Joe struck at 165 yards took a track 250 yards south, then hooked back to the east and was headed back toward the road. I jumped in the truck and pulled up just as he was getting to the road . We loaded up and went to a new spot. 2nd drop Joe struck a track at 350 yards run it about 500 yards threw 2 locates shut down and come back to me. He swung by me went another 250 yards towards the same spot he just opened at and struck again. He worked a small area for several minutes located on 3 or 4 trees than final sat down on one. Joe was treed on a small pine tree with a coon. 3rd drop. Joe opened on a tree with 2 locates on the edge of a large field. He went 400 yards to the north in the field then came back and went 250 yards to the west in the field then came back to where he located at with out a single bark. Joe worked in to the woods about 200 yards opened twice went 360 yards to the west in the woods. He circled back to the spot he opened at and located 2 times in the same area. He then headed back out to the west and did another big 400 yard circle a little south of the last one. He came back with in about 80 yards of me and headed to the south and opened again at 425 yards. he worked a track for a bit. He located on a few trees, But never liked any of them. After a few minutes he cold treed on a tree for about 2 minutes then flipped it over. Joe was treed on a pine tree in a big stand of pines. I didn't find the coon. I couldn't see the very to of the tree. The ground was covered with pine needles and broken of pine trees. I called it a night.
hunt
I have not hunted last 3 nights. temp at night have been in the low 20s and high teens. moon is almost full and its as bright as day. Nights like this are when young dogs struggle, And I do something stupid like sell one I like. We have cloud cover and warmer temps coming this week.
