Well Tom, I won my cast!................................with 75 minus


Still learning the ropes. I was also guide.......and we never saw a coon. All spots that I've seen coon in and recently, but just wasn't the night I guess.

I didn't feel as bad as several casts came in the same way. We have a good coon pop. here but I think they ran late that night.

I think I'm going to try again on Saturday. Another hunt just up the road.

Hunt

Hey Chris, it all has to start somewhere. I can remember the first Nite Hunt I was ever on with a nice female named Dixie. I don't think I made it the first 15 minutes of the hunt All I can remember was striking and treeing just about every time I heard a dog bark...any dog...After that night, I figured maybe I ought to look at the rules and get it figured out before I stuck another dollar into an entry fee. You're further ahead than I was so don't feel so bad, it's a good start to just get your feet wet and see how it feels in a cast of dogs and people.

Since that night so long ago, there have been lots of Nite Ch., Dual Ch., Gr. Nite Ch. and Dual Gr Ch. pass through this yard so I guess you'd say that results get better as we get better at understanding and more stubborn about participating. Like I always say, you have to toss your nickel into the hat if you want to expect to win but you can't expect to win every time because it just doesn't happen that way.

Enjoy the process Chris, I'll be interested to hear how it goes either in competition or for the pleasure of it all.

Moose

If we knew you guys had enough coons to keep the big dog going...he'd probably be on his way south already

He is in the middle of the spring shed out and looks a little rough around the edges. He'll be back in the woods this weekend and we'll see if we can wear a little more fat off his sides. His cut pad looks much better and he hasn't been limping around on it for several days now so we'll see what happens.

Angel kept 7 pups, 5 males and 2 females.

Leinie kept 9 with 6 males and 3 females.

Val has 3 with 1 male and 2 females.

The females from these three litters are all spoken for.

3 males from Angel's litter are spoken for.

3 males from Leinie's litter are spoken for.

There are 3 males available from Leinie's litter.

There are 2 males available from Angel's litter.

There is 1 male available from Val's litter...and he's a big boy...very nice.

If I don't have enough coons, then I will go downtown and trap some more. Didn't you see the before and after pictures of Sally? I could get Da Moose in shape in 3 weeks. A little cut pad shouldn't slow him down much. You should have seen Sally go with her hind leg about to fall off from where she got snake bit. I hope that Da Moose is as tuff as his momma. Those pups should be ready to go by Redbone Days. Let me know if you need any delivered South on my way back home.

Moose

Dave took Yank and Moose last night and on one drop, he tried to cut Moose alone where he thought he had seen a coon way back in this little field. Moose threw his head up and started circling around him by the truck so he walked out towards where he thought he saw the coon with Yank on the lead. Moose was opening a bit now and then but still just circling around by the truck so Dave cut Yank up towards the end of the field and he turned around and headed back towards Moose. Just about the time he was going to start cussing them both out, Moose located and then Yank and they fell treed hard right where he was parked...they had 4 coons sitting up

We'll see how it goes tonight.

Shaker

Mark Bates called this morning and said that he finished Shaker to UKC Dual Gr. Ch. last night with 550+ and no minus.

Shaker is a nice young hound and is a full brother to Joe Maitland's Gr. Nite Ch. Rage dog so for you folks looking to get your extra nice female bred, don't overlook these hounds.

Shaker is a full blown lion hound also and is hard going with a lot of heart. He has a badly torn pad and Mark said last night he super glued it shut and then duct taped a boot on his foot so that he could make it through the night....must have worked because he got it done in good fashion.

Last weekend Mark finished Shaker to AKC Dual Ch. so it has been a real nice couple of weekends for them.

peanut finished to nite ch last night she is also a full litter mate to rage and shaker she will grand out fast i think she had health problems the last yaer and a half and i couldnt hunt her i finilly got her healthly and have won her cast almost every hunt she been in dont have a computer right now to talk back in forth just wanted to let every know she back in the game ,steve keener

Great job Steve, I'm glad to hear it all worked out for you with that nice female. I had heard that she was a real nice young hound and it's always too bad when something happens to them like it did but...it sure is a nice accomplishment to see her come back and get finished in such a great way.

Tom here is one of the young guns out of Yank looking good last night and had the meat. Treed a couple. Great mouth. Dave

Ace

Ace is looking real good Dave...he's going to really be something when he grows up...eh?

I've got a box full of pups that look just like he did when he was just a little shaver. Angel is a good momma and she outdid herself this time. There are 5 males in her litter that all look like the males from the last litter...very dark and with good size already for only 3 weeks old. I will be keeping one back or maybe two depending on whether or not anyone wants them and based off what I saw from the first cross, we should be able to turn out some nice prospects 6-8 months from now.

I like to see him on the wood Dave...any time in the past where I've had those youngsters that are willing to get it done between 8-10 months of age like he is, they've always gone on to be top hounds.

I'm looking forward to the cross between him and Cherry, they should be a great match and a wonderful line cross with some really nice hounds as a foundation.

Tom we need a post for Yank Pups. Ace looked real good on this coon. Took it out of a small woods and into a plowed field and run it to a ditch between the two big fields. He took it down the ditch giving good mouth and treed about 425 yards from the truck. I got in the truck and drove around to get close. I parked in the edge of the field and walked to him. Boy it sound pretty. I petted him up and got back and shined the tree. I saw nothing. The dog was all wet and muddy and so was I after making over him. Got my spot light and shined straight up the tree and there he sit about 30 feet up in a fork tight against the tree. He was wet and had mud on him just like Ace. It was a great track with a great ending. Proud of my Yank pup. How do you say that Tom? He may Make a Goodin some day eh: Have a good day. Dave

He sure looks good Dave! I appreciate you sending me that batch of pictures of Ace on the wood...That's a pretty nice collection already for a 10 month old hound pup.

Ace looks like maybe he could turn out to be a good one...eh?

I'm going to post some pictures, this afternoon, of his new full and half brothers and sisters...they're heart breakers and made of the same stuff as Ace...we'll hope they end up with the same outlook on life that he has.

Well...it took some doing but I got some pictures of these pups. It was tough...I'd pile them up and they'd all start taking off...anyway...here's what we got...
