Nice pictures

Those are some good pictures Carl...who'da thunk that she could swim. We put Yank and another male in the water last year and they swam like crap...just sort of floated around in one place kerplunkin' the water in a mean dog paddle until they spotted the fence and hung on it bawling at the coon all the way over and then finally broke loose to follow it back to where they started...it was some classic swim work...

It looks like fun Carl and good work to keep a dog fit.

Dogs looking great Buck. Dave

Dogs look great...

Looks like it was a good time Buck, the dogs look good and Hernie still knows how to put on a show...

The last time Dave went was Tuesday night with Yank and Moose, he says the dogs hunted hard and he got two tracks and two trees with the meat so a pretty good night.

We'll be heading down to southern Iowa in a couple of weeks to hunt with Aaron and some of the guys down that way...it will be the first competition event that Moose will be entered in...we'll see how he takes to it...

Hunt

Dave took Yank and Moose the other night and had an interesting hunt. He was collaring up the dogs at his first drop and he said that a three legged coon came hopping past the truck, heading for a silage bag...He treed one in this spot a few weeks ago and he said it was up a leaner tree and only about 10 feet off the ground...he figures it was this same coon. He said it was fat and looked in good shape except for hopping on one front leg. Of course, both dogs winded the coon and wanted to get loose but the coon was headed for a farm yard so he didn't dare turn loose. Kind of funny...go hunting and have a coon walk right past you and can't turn the dogs loose. He ended up having to walk them way back in the woods before he cut them or they would have headed right back to where the coon was. He cut them and they disappeared and then a sudden and real heavy downpour of rain came out of nowhere. When it quit, he had no idea where the dogs were but soon heard them bark a couple of times and then come treed...they had the meat so it wasn't a total washout. Earlier he had turned them loose along a spring and they followed it all the way down towards the highway. He could hear them barking right by the road so he drove up there and ran down into the creek to catch them. When he got there, they all of a sudden started really acting crazy and he thought they were going to get away from him and get on the road...all of a sudden, Moose threw a big locate followed by Yank and they both started treeing on a little island in the middle of the creek, right in front of him, with a small tree sticking out of it...they had the coon.

Pretty interesting night of hunting...eh?

Pups are doing real good...THANK YOU to everyone who spoke for a pup, these are all very nice looking pups from three nice crosses. I've got ours picked out but it was real tough because they are all very nice looking and acting pups. Should be a fun rest of the summer.

Chance

She looks good Carl, it's amazing what a little investment in time and patience can do...eh?

She's got the intensity for sure and if it all clicks for her, you'll have yourself an outstanding young hound, not to mention all the fun you'll have teaching her the swim and field trial game.

I'll help in any way I can and I sure enjoy seeing and hearing the updates. I know that you keep her with very good company when you're working with Aubrey's hounds, I can't imagine how she could get better exposure.

Tom took Cherry out last night and she treed two coon in style. First time I had her out sense I bred her to Ace. A lot of under brush and it was hard to get back to get a picture. Her pups are due the 14 of June. Looked good with a big lound change on the wood and a hard loud every breath tree dog. Should be some great pups. Dave

Hounds

Cole, we'll get you fixed up sooner or later. Something usually comes up around here and a new prospect is always just around the corner.

Dave has been hunting the hair off Yank and Moose lately and it sounds like they're getting into shape. Moose is taking his share of tracks away from Yank now and when he lights it up on a tree first...it's hard not to smile...He's got the goods...it will be interesting to see how he takes to mixing with strange dogs in competition...we'll find out real soon.

Dave tells me he has to brace up when he opens the box doors because Moose comes out meaning to get down to business with head held high and nose to the wind. Yank is a little more reserved but if either would ever slip the collar at the tail gate...I'm afraid it would be a race to catch them before they hit the brush and made the first drop alone

The only down side to these northern dogs is that they are in mid shed right now and they look a little rough around the edges...but even that doesn't look so bad when they're pasted to the side of a tree or sitting under the coon.

Our females are finally out of heat so things are settling down around the yard...that's a good thing...

We can find out in just 2 1/2 weeks now. I have some of the strangest dogs around. When are you coming down to Mishicot? If you come down on Tuesday or Wednesday we could go hunting. Joe said that the cabins would be open early in the week.

"mixing with strange dogs in competition", How did that go? I believe that there are 2 Legendary Redbone Handlers out there now, The Legendary Danny Biggert and The Legendary Dave Patzner. It sounds like the Pro Handler, Jason Guilliams, and I have found us a car for the Big Race next year. Only 2 more weeks now, I can't wait.

Zone Hunt

Dave and I traveled down to Iowa this weekend to hunt in the zone hunt in Troy Iowa. We stayed with our good friend Aaron Wade and his family, Tina, Gabbryelle and Gracee. Thanks for putting up with us, as always we enjoyed our stay with you folks.

On Friday night, Moose participated in his first competition event and I was at the helm. I wanted to see how he'd do with dogs he didn't know and after being hauled and all the other excitement that goes along with doing competition events. Moose did fine but didn't win the cast, he didn't do anything wrong but a combination of a rusty handler and a rookie dog was a little much to overcome I guess.

Saturday night went a little better and me and Moose did OK. We ended up scoring on 2 coons with a first and first and a first and second and that was enough. We made one more tree that was a legitimate circle and another real good tree about 10 seconds after the hunt was over so he did good.

We ended up with 400+ and that was good enough for a first place win and also for the second high Redbone of the zone.

I don't much like to get in front of a camera but here's Aaron Wade, me and Da Moose...

Here's another one with Dave in the picture...

We didn't show in the afternoon because Moose looks a little rough around the edges with being in the middle of the shed. Folks around the club asked why I didn't show him...I guess they thought he looked better than I did.

The folks at the Troy club are good people and I enjoy myself every time I go down that way. We always get in coons for the most part and it's mostly flat ground walking...at least for us hill country boys.

Aaron and his family are gracious hosts and his wife Tina is a saint for putting up with us. Gabbryelle is such a sweet heart it was hard to say goodbye today and Gracee is going to be a heart breaker for sure.

Thanks to all those folks at the hunt for putting on another real nice event.

Congratulations

Great Job Tom and Da Moose. Glad you had a great time. That's what it's all about. Dave

Posted by Richard Lambert on 05-17-2010 01:53 PM:

Oh my goodness!!! Tom, you are almost smiling in that picture. A dog like Moose can make you feel young again, can't he? I guess that you are going to have to start going to all of those trees with Dave now. There goes all of the excuses. I can't believe that you had poor Dave do all of that hunting and then when it got time for the glory you stepped in! I guess that you and Moose are going to be a real threat at ARCA Days. Is this going to be the "Comeback Story Of The Year"? Moose's first hunt and he gets a first place win!!!!! Oh My Goodness!!! Wait until Weenie hears about this. Pastor Mike, have shown him that picture yet.
