Nice

Nice pictures Mark..but the story was just as good or better. It worked out pretty good when you called, I could hear him make his last trail bark and then locate and get to treein' on that first let go coon. The second one was a fight from start to finish and if I got it right, he was just about to pull that coon down out of those vines when you snapped that picture

The other day when you called and described him split treed with a coon the night before, it was a real thrill because we thought he was going to be special and get with the program pretty quick, but that's pretty good for a 7 month old pup.

I'll keep hoping that Lilly shows up somewhere but by the way you described it, they had a heck of a fight in there and everything flooded and then into the river...It's tough when you have to go so far to get to them and in a, "there's just no easy way to get there from here" kind of place...

I'm hoping that Cuz will continue to make you pround Mark, I can't think of anyone better suited to handle a dog like him. I'm hoping we'll get to make that cross again this fall or winter, it's one of those good ones. I heard that the rest of his litter are doing pretty much the same kinds of things and impressing folks for their age.

Congratulations to Dave and Moose

Just wanted to send out congratulations to Dave and Moose for their cast win on Friday night. It was good enough to place in the top ten and give Moose another win towards Nite Ch.

Moose is an outstanding young hound that has his best days ahead of him. We're looking forward to his future and hope that he is able to reproduce his own traits plus those of the generations that came before him.

Hey Tom

For awhile now I've been layin' low with this pup I have out of Yank and Angel that I call Clyde. I've just been kind of lettin' him run the place and learn how to hunt on his own. He's only been with older dogs about half a dozen times and the rest of his work has been alone.

Well, Saturday night Aaron and I went and he got treed with Sid and Locket. We wanted to lower it, but the rifle was of course, back at the Wade ranch. Second drop he and Locket went about a quarter and we ended up catching them up before they got into someones yard.

Tonight, at my place he struck a track just inside of the timber, worked it along the edge of the pond, crossed the creek, took it about 75yds up into the other woods and got treed. I took some pics but had a camera malfunction so, you'll have to wait to see him but he is almost identical in looks to Woofters.

He's got a big horn, goes hunting hard, independent and looks to get treed. Smart around the house and in the woods as well. Acts older than he is.

Thought I'd let you know, sounds like another great T-Top cross and young dog coming down the pipe.

Posted by Browntown's Red on 07-06-2010 05:37 AM:

Here is another one.

I also have one out Yank and Angel. He is doing really well. Like to do it by his self or with others. He was been worked pretty well over the last 5 months. Dose a great job can't wait for him to taste some fur one day. Alll this has been by Tom's book, plus and Old time walker man in SC. Not the loudest but dose make it up in having the coon.
Good luck.

Clyde

Hey Chris, it's good to hear that he's showing enough to get you excited I really like that cross with Yank and Angel, with Ace, Clyde, Buddy and another brother in PA that is pretty much doing it all from track to tree out of that litter.

Those females that I sent along with Aaron will open some eyes in several months also if I guess right, I like what I see out of them at that age and would be so bold as to guarantee that they'll be knockin' on the wood before you know it.

I remember back when you came to pick him up...I had the "twins" saved back so you could choose between them. I didn't see a difference between them in looks or actions and although we didn't really know how it would go at the time, they are sure looking like they'll make coon dogs now.

Hey Robbie...Buddy has the goods and I'd bet it's going to be a fun coon season once fall and winter comes around again in NC. I'll sure be looking forward to hearing about these young dogs as they start to grow and go about their business.

Now some are seeing why I bred Cherry to Ace with all of these young males looking good in the litter. It's good to breed to a male that comes from a strong litter. Dave

And a female that comes from the same, right Dave? I been wondering, when are you going to trot her out to a few night hunts? Surely she is able to handle anything that comes her way by now?

Hope all is well for you and I continue to enjoy watching Ace progress and comparing him, Clyde and now the Buddy dog to each other. Sounds like they were cut from a cookie cutter.

Cherry

Chris,
From all the people that used to try to buy Cherry and offered to bred her free I thought everyone knew what I thought of her. She is still here and always will be. Some day I may let you handel her if I don't get it done my friend but with her breeding and after Dagger died my first Goal was to get pups out of her which we have done now. Have a good one and good luck with your hounds. Dave

Posted by Browntown's Red on 07-06-2010 08:29 PM:

Dave,down the road.

I know what you are talking about, I have a female off Buck's Spook, which you know his sire was Stonewall Rebel which was litter mate to Rabble. I am paying someone to work her for me, because Buddy gets all my one on one time, I promise Tom I would give him all I could. The female is Jill she is coming along nice, a couple months younger and did run and tree alone the other night on a wild coon, no bucket. We still have along ways to go with both Buddy and Jill. Over the next year we will tell if this could be a cross down the road.

Those are some fine bred pups for sure Dave. I will be following their progress. I hope you got some good hunting homes for 'em. I know the importance of getting pups out of a dog you love before it is too late.

Keep the Ace pics comin' and good luck with those pups.

Last night

Dave had Moose to the woods last night and he did a real good job on a couple of tracks. We were a little concerned about how Moose would come back from being taken off a tree at Redbone Days on Saturday night but he was standing side-by-side with a nice B&T male last night and both of them were knocking the top out. Moose took care of his business like he always does, straight up, nails dug in and every breath...no mind to anything else.

We will start messing with the pups doing what we call "further training", this weekend. I have two pups here out of Yank and Angel that are beautiful pups and I don't see much that will stand in the way of them turning out like Ace, Clyde, Buddy and the rest from the last litter.

I have 5 males here out of Moose and Leinie and I'm targeting to start 2-3 of them so that leaves 2-3 available now.

If you're looking for a real nice pup out of two outstanding young hounds, then give these Moose and Leinie pups a good look. I don't see anything at all in them that would indicate to me that they won't take off like the T-Top hounds of the past. Moose is close to making his Nite Ch. title and I think the sky is the limit for him over the next year or so. Leinie is a top female and gets on the wood with the meat as well as any dog, doesn't matter if it's a cold track or a fresh one, she can work them up and put a tree on them.

$200 gets one of these Moose and Leinie males, picked up here. They're priced fair now but I'd guess that in the near future, they'll not be so easy to get.

I will also have one male available from the Yank and Angel cross...he's a real nice looking pup with good ears and conformation and a real cherry red color...and a good mouth.

I am glad to hear that Moose does not "hold a grudge". He is such a good natured hound. He is so friendly and good with strangers. He must get that from his daddy because he sure doesn't get it from his mother. Keep putting him with other dogs. He already has the independance thing down pat. I saw him get completely by himself on Friday night. A dog that has one by himself in each cast will win a lot. Miss Piggy beat me on Thursday night by having one by herself while mine was in a hole. I will take the loud mouthed Moose pup that I saw while I was up at your house. Will you be home this weekend?

Posted by topdog on 07-10-2010 03:14 AM:

Loud mouth pup

Which one?? There's more than one in that bunch with that kind of mouth but I guess it's nice to have a choice.

I'll be home...you lookin' to make a road trip?

Dave took Moose to one of those HTX events tonight...I guess it's been too long of a lay off from last week...eh?

Moose is finally shed out and he's a specimen for sure. He's got a look about him and if he can pass it on along with his ability, he's going to be able to offer something to the breed for a long time to come.

These pups are extra nice whether it's the one left from the Yank and Angel cross or the ones left from Moose and Leinie...come pick one out...

Moose should pass his htx with little trouble. Shoot. Leinie passed hers with 18" of snow on the ground in 15 degree weather. Took the whole hour. But she found that only coon out.
Must be the economic times. Them pups are super cheap.
Moose has a first place win at the 2010 zone 7 hunt and a nineth place at redbone days. Built like a tank.
Leinie had a fourth place registered last year at redbone days and was high scoring female, is a nite champ . Always muscled up and in good rig. And there are still pups left. I find that amazing.
This line of dogs has consistently proved themselves thru the years.
People are always looking for nice bred pups and here some sit. Just crazy times. Somewhere someone is going to regret not grabbing one of these future top prospects up..

Scott

HTX

Moose passed his first HTX step. Dave said he did a nice job on a long but decent track and ended up treeing close to the truck so they could actually see the coon from the road...nice when it works out like that once in awhile.

Scott...you're right about the pups, they'll make a mark in the not so distant future and they'd be a good catch for someone at this stage of the game.

Hi Tom!

It's been a while and I'm still going to send you an email with more details about what's been going on back here in northwest PA.

I met and talked to Dave at Redbone Days last week. Super nice guy which didn't surprise me at all with your crew.

I also met da Moose. Wow, what a specimen. He needs his own Gold's Gym shirt(tank top of course) with the size and muscle he has. He looks like he could fit into the coon woods or a tractor pull with equal success!LOL. Nice dark red color, and those are show quality feet especially with his size.

I sure wish I had kennel space for one of those pups. I'm still working on it though.

Silk is looking good in the woods and will be putting her in some hunts here coming up. A wet woods after an all day soaker of a rain, and slightly cooler temps made for some good running last night. Made quick work of the tracks. Here's some pics, and as usual, she's in her customary red collar. My son had a good time too.

Sadie in blue collar and Corey's Rock dog(Rabble blood in him too) along with T-Top Red Silk

Take care, Chris

Silk

Great pictures Chris, it looks like you guys had a great night of hunting. I see the young man with the big smile...it doesn't get much better than that...in fact...two big smiles.

I remember Silk very well Chris, from the very first time she took to training...she always had something special about her, although a bit of a stubborn streak to go along with all that potential. It looks like she's a happy dog and enjoying her life with you folks and it looks like you're all enjoying her also...that's a pretty good deal I think.

Keep me posted, I hope you guys keep enjoying your Red dogs.

Cuz...

I talked to Mark today and he updated me on his latest adventures with Cuz and the rest of his outstanding hounds. He's pretty excited about Cuz and so am I. Starting a dog right is part of the equation but making a dog takes time and repetitions in the woods. Mark has always done his part with putting his dogs in the woods after coons or in the mountains after lion.

Over the last couple of nights, Cuz continues to progress and to open some eyes. He's just coming 8 months old and Mark said that he strikes legitimately and runs a track hard and fast. He uses a good locate and rolls it over on the tree...and has had the meat. He's willing to go his own way independently or he'll join other dogs if nothing is going on but he doesn't just run to them, he covers the track on his own and comes treed at the end. He'll swim fast water and hunt hard and work a track, sometimes one that others don't smell so easy...and he'll put a tree on the end of it.

Cuz comes from a nice cross between Yank and a first cousin female that has old Rat as her Grand sire. She is out of a female that is directly out of Joe Maitland's Pete dog so once again, this has proven to be a great combination. Old Rat shows up in the pedigree 3 times in three generations, along with a lot of other top hounds.

I try hard to not make a dog out to be more than he or she really is...I try to give an honest assessment of a dog or a cross with no blowing or making more out of it than what it really is...in this case...we're talking about a 7 month old pup that tracks and trees his own coons, split trees and holds pressure and does most everything else like an old dog...not a pup. He's another young dog out of this next generation out of Rabble Rouser, that is showing that putting the right dogs together will continue to produce top hounds.

Don't overlook these young studs like Haze, Rage, Yank, Moose and others that are directly out of old Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser and some top females like Long Tall Sally, Music, Annie, Starr, Page, Mya and others.

Yank has proven already that he can reproduce some outstanding young prospects and Moose has his first pups on the ground and available and I'd expect that they'll do much the same as what we've seen so far from Yank.

I have 3 male pups available from Moose and Leinie and one male pup available from Yank and Angel. $200 picked up here...it's a fair price but I'd predict that pups from these crosses won't be so cheap in the near future.

Pups

Just got in from messing with the pups...they made me smile...won't be long and I'll be able to post pictures of them doing their business.

I love it when I see again what I've seen so many times before. I had 5 big dogs pounding the turf in front of the kennel gate and at least 4 of six pups squeezing in between their legs and barking like they meant it...the other two stayed in the background but interested just the same.

Good stuff!
