BRIAR

Briar with the coon he treed tonight. I took him to BO's Bottom again tonight. I had filled up the feeder last night and was hoping to get him on a good track. It had rained early this evening and was cloudy which helped hide the bright moon and a slight breeze, so I felt conditions were very good for getting after one. Cut him near the Beaver Lake and when he got in near the feeder he opened one time then booger barked and bayed, uh oh I thought, Possum. I hopped off the 4 wheeler and ran in there fast as I could but it was over, Briar had took care of his first Possum. I told him " NO!" and to get ahead and he trotted on off into the swamp. In a few minutes he struck at 177yds and his big bawl sounded like Coon to me so I walked back out to the 4 wheeler and listened to him move the track on out of the swamp bottom into the young pines and briars. He was starting to really roll so I fired up and rode a few hundred yards closer and when I killed the 4 wheeler, he hit the tree 223yds away. He lit it up and I lit out to him. He was treeing harder than I have ever heard but I was in that pine thicket and it had briars, vines, scrub oak, you name it. Bad thick and seemed I took one step forward, two sideways and one back. For 15 minutes I fought my way to him and he hammered the whole time until I got 20yds from him then he quit and got off the tree. I used the Garmin to get where I thought he was treed and just sat down and turned off my light. It wasn't a minute and he came back in and climbed up on a young pine 20' from me and went back to treeing. I cut the light on, walked over and hooked him up and threw the light straight up this small pine fully expecting to see nothing but was I wrong. There set the big coon in the very top swaying back and forth and looking like he was about to bail out at any second. I petted on Briar a couple minutes telling him what a good job he did then I put the coon out to him. It wasn't perfect but he is headed in the right direction and short hunts like I have been putting on him and keeping him on coons night after night without the rabbit races and he should be looking real good by the time the weather cools off this fall. When we got home Ole Bo could smell the coon breath on Briar as I led him past BO's pen to put him up and he wasn't happy, lol! Bo isn't quite ready to go back to hunting. His paw is still swollen a little and he favors it still. I will give Briar a couple more nights to himself then break BO out for a few nights and rest Briar. Good Hunting!

OLD BOOK

This is an old book I bought off ebay and it came in today. Published in 1948 and it has some good photos and interesting reading of our Blue Hounds that I thought I would share with everyone. I will be curious to see if any of you have heard of any of these hounds. I am posting 7 pictures in all that cover our Bluetick.

BO and BRIAR

Thanks Wendell. I think he has a home for life but you never know. When they get to aggravating me night after night I become like a teenager, I fall in and out of love, QUICK! lol! He is doing good for his age and can flat out move a track and think in time he will work worse tracks than BO can. Just got to tighten him up on tree and I know that will come over the next few months. How are you and Thunder getting along up your way? Take Care.

Went out to Amite county last night since the training season has opened and we can put one down per night. This is a nice chunk of woods with Huge pines and oaks and the woods are open so you can get down through them a lot better than these swamps. My dad wanted to go set on the tailgate and listen so he joined me. BO struck a coon behind the Old Roberts House and moved the track North into a cutover. I had cut Briar to him and they worked that track over 600yds and got near someone's house and got him up and running. Coon must have been near the house getting something to eat. We rode up the road to get closer but it didn't help much. Briar fell treed at 801yds but BO was coming back our way. He fell treed at 429yds. I started to them but Briar didn't stay long enough for me to get there and BO had a coon up a big sweet gum. I left him to run again. Enjoyed visiting with Dad and kind of surprised he wanted to come as late as it gets dark and warm as it is. Mom might have been nagging on him and he needed a break, lol! Good Hunting!

BRIAR

Took him to Black Branch Swamp and BO's Bottom last night and he got on two different tracks at Black Branch Swamp that were fair tracks that he moved out pretty good, located a few times then came back. Not enough scent to excite him enough to stay on those trees. Frustrating but until he gets more experience and more fur dropped down to him nothing else I can do but keep unsnapping him. Took him to BO's Bottom and cut him on opposite side of swamp from the feeder. I don't like dumping them on top of a feeder every night or they will get to where they won't hunt out anywhere else. He drifted out to around 260yds and struck a good track, moved it a couple hundred yards and hit the tree. I had made up my mind I was done running to the tree. He has treed several coon and had a couple put on him the past week so its time to get right before I get off the 4 wheeler. He did so I headed his way. Got half way to him and he hushed and headed toward the 4 wheeler. I cut my light out and waited. When he got even with me and was 17yds to my left I coughed one time and watched him on the Garmin. He stopped, paused a few seconds then bee lined it back to the tree and crawled up on it and got right. I walked the 100yds on in and he didn't get off it again. He had a little coon up a small Magnolia with a lot of vines. I petted him up and shook those vines in the top of that tree near the coon and Briar really went to hammering. I petted him up a little more and we came on home. He is getting there slowly. I feel he likes the track right now more than the tree and I think it might be because I let him get away with the rabbit running a little to ,long so I will take some blame. BUT, he has the breeding, desire, drive, smarts, and the tree in him, SO, he should come around as Kenny said and get better on this treeing soon. It being so hot don't help but I'm not using excuses for him. BO made a heck of a hound last summer with all the hunting I was putting on him and leaving Speck at the house. This time last year BO was one month older than Briar is now and was really starting to put it together and doing a good job. Hopefully in a month that's what Briar will be doing. Good Hunting!

BRIAR and BO

Picture of Briar and Bo after a cool swim in the river this evening. It is a lot of people out and about on the roads and river this weekend for the 4th so I will not hunt tonight or tomorrow. Not worth the risk of maybe losing a hound. Everyone have a fun and safe weekend. God Bless America!

BLUETICKS made FOX NEWS

Just saw on Fox News a Bluetick. They were showing dogs MADE IN AMERICA and the Bluetick being one of the 3 shown. Good looking hound but must of had some ear trouble because everytime he bawled he shook his head violently. When I have a litter of pups that will be part of my marketing strategy, ' Made In America '!! Sounds good to me!

STARS

This is a picture of 2 stars or planets very close together that I took the other night when my dad set on the tailgate with me listening to Bo and Briar. My Mom said they believe this is the stars the Shepard's followed when JESUS was born. They say its the closet together they have been since then, over 2,000 years.

BO LOVES STORMY!!!

Stormy is coming in Heat! I have waited and watched every day since I bought her for this. She is on day 6 and I had Beverly carry her to the Vet this morning and he did a smear test and confirmed shes on the top end and will be a few days to the peak time for breeding. We will do another test on Friday. I had talked to several people who have top male hounds and had put on here I was breeding her to Bocephus way back. Then I leaned another way because I already have two Bocephus offspring with another on the way and maybe another. So I took a look and talked about another top hound and then thought about My Bo. Why Not I asked myself? I love almost everything about him and with me working the crazy weekend crap I'm working it was going to be tough to get away at the right time to hook her up with anything else. At my house the Stud is just 3 DOORS DOWN! Easy PLUS I love both these hounds. Mating one from my past to the one of my present to make the one for my future. Disadvantage is moving the pups as Bo is not titled and I don't have time for hunts right now, but you know what? I'm not in this and never was for the " DOLLAR ". I'm in this for the love of listening to a good hound work a bad track in the " STILL OF THE NIGHT ". Or smoking the swamp bottoms hot on Rocket the Racoon or The Two Mile Bandits Tail! So after fighting with myself in my mind a couple weeks ago about what to do I Paid Bo up as a Performance Sire and sent in his DNA yesterday. She should be ready to breed Saturday or Sunday and will be bred a couple times. If she has pups I will pay up the entire litter, they will be raised to the best of mine, Masons, Beverly and of course, Stormy's ability to weaning age. Wormed and shots will be given. If she takes and we raise more than one healthy, weaned pup I will have some to move. If you are interested in one of these pups and will give it a chance to become what it was bred to do then you can have one for very little cost. Don't care if you ever put it in a hunt but would be nice if you did. My goal is to find Great, Hunting Homes for these pups and I feel if you give them the chance they will make you more than proud. I think I can guarantee " HUGE MOUTHS ". For a first time Coon Hunter or young folks, they will be FREE. No strings attached. If he or she makes you a world champion and you make a million dollars off them, I'm proud for you and I'm proud its my hounds that produced them. As I saw on FOX NEWS the other day, Blueticks were " MADE IN AMERICA " . These will be made in a few days in a MISSISSIPPI RIVER BOTTOM!!!

Super Stakes?

Is Bo directly off of Bocephus? And Stormy's pedigree?

This is Stormy's littermate brother.

Rowdy, yes my Bo is off Bocephus and White Grass Sally owned by Kenny Hulse. This is Stormy's pedigree, she is littermate to the Dan dog that Dave in NY used to own and I think Kerry Rooks has him now. Heck of a hound with a giant mouth is what I have heard. The whole litter made Nt Ch or Gr Nt Ch off the IL. Mighty Blue Jake that I used to own, very nice hound. His percentage on producing was over 40 percent but he didn't have 100 pups. All the Mighty Blue was owned by Frank Erwin that I hunted with for years and years. All loud bawl mouths with lots of Giddy up and GO. If BO will reproduce on Stormy half as good as Jake did on Hugger I will be a very happy Coon Hunter.

BO and Stormy

I pulled two old videos of Stormy and Bo from page 19 to this page so you could hear what they both sound like on the tree. It was the first night we hunted Stormy and Masons first real coon hunt. Stormy went a little right when we cut them and Bo a little left. Stormy treed on a big vine going into a big water oak and she had the coon. In the mean time Bo had got deep and treed and he had the coon and we knocked it out to him. Click on the little black box with the x in it to see video. They tree with bawl mouths and IF we get some pups I feel most will be loud and bawl on track and tree. When Bo kicks it over he gets to short bawling with a long one here and there. If you don't like what you hear out of these two on the tree its a good chance you won't like what their pups will sound like treeing.
Wendell, I will check into SS but I hear its expensive and it would add to the cost of a pup so I could get the money back. But, a lot of people want it so I will see what the cost is. I sent UKC 200 and then another 45 for the DNA. And I think the cost to perm. performance . the whole litter is 150. Lets just say she had 6 pups and I keep one and sell the other 5. The money I have spent plus the shots wormer and feed lets just say I'm out 600 bucks. 6 pups- out 600 bucks then that's 100 bucks a pup to get most my money back. SS stake might run that price up closer to 200, I don't know but will check. All I want is a pup and sell the others to select people that will give them a chance to make a good hound and get the money I have in them back in my pocket. No Stud fee included in price, none of the money I spent buying Stormy, just what I put in the pups. If Bo proves he can reproduce and I win a few hunts and he gets titled some then my pup price would be like everyone else, 200 to 500. But right now I just want a pup from them two hounds and put the rest in good hands at a price that cant be beat and we will see what BO Throws.

Steve,'
I was just wondering about ss. Bocephus is one of the few bluetick ss sires. I was hoping Bo was paid up. If not it would cost some coin to get he and stormy paid up. Pups would have to be pretty steep to get the money back.

there are e some ways of getting the litter ss but you would have to have the right motivation. For me ss is more important than performance. I have plenty of P<€ hunts here and the Spring and fall ss are relatively close. Jazz is paid up and plans to be at the fall for the baby stakes.

LITTLE LEVI

Little Levi came and spent the day with Paw Paw and Me Me today. I had worked the past 2 nights in a row and had meetings during the day. Got home at 5am and took a short nap before Levi got here at 7:30am. We rode the 4 wheeler and petted all the hounds. Like Mason, he loves to hear Paw Paw ask the hounds, " How's my Pups? " and they all give us a welcome bawl or two as we walk across the yard to go see them. Ole Bo just loves the little ones and cows down when they are near so as not to hurt one on accident. He is a totally different hound when a little one is near and I love that about him. Headed to a meeting in the morning then another hard weekend on the interstate. Will get back to hunting next week.

HUNTING

I got through another rough weekend of work. We lost another concrete pour due to bad mix from the plant and it will have to be broke out and redone. State wanted us to just leave it to set up and get I-10 traffic back on it and we will break it out another weekend. This is getting real old, two steps forward and one back, getting nowhere very slowly. And it was HOT. Went into work at 4pm Friday evening and got off at 9:30am this morning. Put in 60 ours of work with very few of sleep. Making me older quick.
Bo bred Stormy on Saturday and when I got in from work today I put them together and he bred her again so I'm excited and hoping I have pups on the way. Beverly said on Saturday morning she was out in the yard tending to some flowers and heard a little racket at the dog pen and when she looked Briar had a hold of a possum, shook it two times and dropped it on the deck and the possum was a goner. I guess he climbed in there looking for food and found BRIAR PATCH HAPPY! I hope Briar got us a little respect from the varmints around here if they think my hounds are so sorry they can just climb in the pen with them and eat their food, lol!! Beverly said he sure acted proud of himself when she removed the victim.
I will get back to hunting tonight after midnight, to hot to hit it any sooner .

Took this picture at work Saturday while riding down the highway. Notice the Beam of Light in the center of photo coming from the sky to the ground. There wasn't a cloud in the sky as you can see so it wasn't the suns ray going through a hole in the clouds doing this. You could see it from miles and miles and when it disappeared it was like you turned a light switch off, just gone. I got to thinking maybe it was the Good Lord beaming up folks so I got off the next exit and went the other way. As much as I would Love to see Heaven there is still a few places around here I would like to see for a while longer!

FLAG RALLY

This is a short video of me today at a Flag Rally in Magnolia MS. The City Hall has took down our State Flag since the tragedy that happened in South Carolina when that crazy, twisted freak killed the 9 innocent Christian people in that Church. S. C. took down the Confederate Flag now they are coming after our State Flag. Next will be the Christian Flag then the American Flag and our GUNS. I have always told Beverly if something like I see on TV ever got around here that I was hitting the street in defense of what's right in this country. The guy that started this rally made the 6pm news and I made the 5pm news. Channel 12 WJTV out of Jackson, Ms. was there. I wasn't going to talk but the more I listened and thought about all the attacks on our rights that have come our way lately, well, I just couldn't keep enough duct tape on my big mouth. Click on picture to hear and see the beginning of a United Stand to save our State Flag that the residents of Mississippi voted to keep as is in 2001. Now they say its probably coming down without a vote. What happened to: We the People? Why even vote anymore, they do what they want anyway. If our President don't like how Congress votes he just signs executive orders and has his way. If the State don't like how we voted to keep the Flag they just take it down. Time to Stand your Ground!!!

I'm talking to a man that used to work for me on a construction job. He wasn't there as a supporter but I respect his opinion of the Flag and he respects mine. We shot the Bull a while and he even talked about coming back to work for us then we went our separate ways.
