I am not really trying to promote a new registry or association here with this type of hunt. I just thought it would be cool to hold a once a year...true elimination hunt just for redbones. Dont think its ever been done before without some sort of pre-qualifying (like $kc redbone days) it would be more like U.S. redbone days I guess....but without the hassle of having an association running it and all the politics that go with it. What I am really looking for with this thread is numbers.....how many redbones would enter an event like this, pay a $75 entry for a chance to hunt 4 rounds and a chance to win some nice prizes, money, magazine coverage with pictures and the title of Last Redbone Standing...or whatever we decide to call it? Could we get 40 or more redbones from around the country to enter and make it a success?
I think it would be cool if the final cast could be video taped using night vision cameras with good audio capabilities and then that video could be uploaded to the web for other hunters to enjoy. Who knows....maybe other breeds would want to have their own version of this type of hunt for their breed....then maybe if the future the individual winners could have a true battle of the breeds
Better not get too far ahead of ourselves...lol Maybe ukc will think this is a good idea and could make some kind of hunt format like this??? Something that would work with their rules and still be able to be an elimination event just for one breed???

Well, the location will probably depend on who and what club is willing to organize it and provide the guides, facility and other things needed. Is anyone or any club volunteering to help put this hunt on?

I think if it is club sponsored the club can apply for a license to cover out of state hunters...but yes that will need to be worked out.

i would go only if format was this.

1st round every dog hunts by itself with a garmin.

dog must cover at least 300 yards or tree a coon (non feeder) within 20 minutes. this is not a i have been dry holed round. your dog hunts out more than 300 for where dropped and doesn't tree a coon before time runs out it advances.

round 2
dogs have random draw with four dogs cast, cast winner advances, 2nd dog is cast advances to last chance bracket sort of speak.

round 3
again random draw four dog cast with two sides caster winner and last chance winners.

round 4

depending on number of dogs entered this would be a random 2 dogs cast of the winner side and last chance side(more than likley last chance would stay 4 dogs) this round on winner side really eliminates the buddy system and dog pitching of handlers.

round 5

hopefully final cast which would be 2 -4 dogs with one of them being the dog that has made through the last chance bracket.

this is just a rough draft and would really have to be reviewed and made final so dont pick it apart totally.

ukc rules with one exception any dog refusing to hunt at anytime will be scratched ( no exceptions ).

Well thats not going to happen unless you want to make a big investment of time and money in making this hunt happen. It is hard enough to base this hunt on similar proven formats.....it would be impossible to pull it off using everyone's wishlist ideas. The truth is....someone will have to dig deep in their own pocket to guarantee the winners get paid the money and prizes promised and if nobody else wants to contribute anything besides their entry fee....that extra will probably fall on the shoulders of the organizer....which would be me, unless someone else wants to take this idea and run with it.

I don't see this hunt drawing a full entry of 64 dogs in the first few years. I think it would be lucky to draw 40 the first year and only then if it was centrally located to most of the redbone people who competition hunt. But hey....if Ada put on a hunt like this...I would come. I would drive anywhere to hunt in a redbone only true elimination event where every cast has a clear winner and that dog advances to the next round regardless of score.
To me, if you pay your entry fee....the best dog in each cast deserves credit for winning that cast...even if you didn't tree a coon on the outside and nobody has plus points. Dogs can only do so much and a den is as much as they can do some nights. If you are going to ask people to drive many hours to compete...there should be a clear winner from each cast and that dog should advance. The Rocky dog who won $kc redbone days this year never had a plus point. The first round we treed a den and took some minus and he won the tie for least minus and advanced. Then in the final cast...they only treed dens and he won with circle points....because thats the best those dogs could do. Rocky was crowned champion and thats the way it should be. At autumn oaks last year...there was no overall champion of autumn oaks....because they didn't tree a coon that could be scored plus. I think any hunt where you have the dogs hunt it off to determine a winner.....there should be a clear cast winner regardless of score....and I think that would make this hunt appealing to most people...especially those driving many hours to compete in it.
