Anybody been mushroom hunting?
Dalton and Chey went last Thursday and found enough for me to fry up for dinner but I've not had time to go yet. Temps have been good for it and we're getting some rain. It's supposed to be warm this weekend so I'm hoping those elusive worth their weight in gold morels are still popping up this weekend!

How do you fix your mushrooms? When I was young and hunted mushrooms, we just laid them out to dry on newspaper and then ate them. You are right that they were worth their weight in gold.

....ive been twice and have found around 40..been a long cold spring not really good weather for the mushrooms.....i soak mine over night in water to drowned out the bugs and snails...rollem in flour and fry them in butter flavored Crisco...

I'd never thought of the butter flavored Crisco. Good idea! I fry some then use others just like I would cooking with any other mushroom. Great sautéed for steaks and chops and I use them in several Italian dishes I make. Some go in the freezer for future use.
The boys told me tonight that their turkey picture had a morel in it. Dalton had them pose for a pic and they looked down and their was a mushroom lol. They may need to go back and hunt that spot!
