Nice young hounds

I got a few pictures from Kyle Borgstadt the other day and thought I'd share a couple of them.

This is Randy Ficken's Nt Ch. PR Ficken's Rocky

This is also Randy's young male Nt. Ch. PR Greatful Dead Red.

Rocky is by way of...
Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser
and
Gr. Nite Ch. PR Thomas's Midnight Music

Red is by way of...
Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser
and
Gr. Nite Ch. PR Sterkis's Machine Gun Annie

These are a couple of outstanding young males with a lot of potential and a bright future in store. I think that Rocky just turned 3 and Red is 2 years old so a long, and hopefully successful, career in front of them. Red is a full litter mate brother to Don Barnett's Nite Ch. Deuce male...that was a decent cross.

Thanks Kyle, I appreciate you keeping me posted on how they're doing, I sure enjoy hearing about it.

High and dry...

Out here at T-Top Kennels, we're high and dry but the folks in Arcadia that are on the west side close to the river, weren't so lucky. It's the worst flooding I have seen over a couple of day period, in the nearly 60 years I have been a resident here. We got 8-9" of rain in about 10-12 hours and in these hills and coulees, that isn't going to be good.

The west side of town was flooded completely. Residents were evacuated and moved to Red Cross shelters and lots of water damage to homes and businesses. It's already going down and folks are getting at the clean up so just like folks in other places across the country who have had to deal with these kinds of things, we're on the road to recovery.

There was a tremendous response from emergency services from all around the area and I know that folks are thankful and very appreciative.

The creeks and streams all around the area have a new face on them because the water rushed through the banks like I have never seen. It's just another reminder of how helpless we really are when Mother Nature decides to go wild for even a short period of time.

Thanks to all who have expressed concern and who have given well wishes, we're all fine and our small town of Arcadia is quickly on the trail to recovery.

Rabble grand pups

Tom, thought I would post a pic of some Rabble grandpups. These are some out of Oz X Ruby. There are 3 males and 2 females that really take after the T-Top blood in my opinion. These are 2 of them.

Pups

Hey Chad, those are some nice looking pups. The young man in the picture has his hands full, that's for sure.

I hope all is going well, they look like some nice pups with a good foundation all around.

Pup

Dave has been doing a little hunting lately and the dogs are looking good. He's been taking Moose and Yank for the most part right now to get them back into shape for the hunting season, which is just a couple of weeks away.

I got an email from Bret the other day and he sent a few pictures of his nice pup that he calls Badger.

This is Badger...lookin' good...on the wood...

Badger is by way of Moose and Leinie. He's a nice pup with a lot of leg and very coon and tree minded. Bret has him moving along nicely in the program and I'd say he'll be tagging along by fall and winter. It will be real interesting to see how all those pups from that litter do as the season progresses around the country.

We are going to see some real cool weather this weekend and probably our first hard freeze, where it drops down into the 20s. I'm ready for it because it will start the leaves turning faster and they'll be dropping in no time. The dogs are looking forward to these cool nights and they're getting more and more restless as we move more towards October. It won't be long and we'll be able to update some good nights of hunting...it's a great time of year...eh?

Pups, don't you just love em? To celebrate his 10 mos birthday, Tom has gotten real independant. He has treed 3 possums all by himself in the last 2 nights. He looked so good doing it that I hated to whoop him for it, but I did. Tom Tom, Slam Dunk and I hope to be up in the Green Bay area in the next week or two for some of that easy hunting. I hope that the cold weather holds off until after then.

Weather

You might be in luck Richard, it's supposed to be a high of 52 tomorrow and 27 over night but back up to mid 50s during the day on Sunday. I think next week is looking pretty good with low 60s during the day and low 40s overnight...that's pretty good huntin' weather for this time of year.

You've kind of got it mixed up though, the good hunting doesn't start until the frost is down hard and the leaves are gone...and it's not that far away anymore. Bugs are dead, air is cold and crisp and the fur is thick...life is good...eh?

I said "easy hunting" not "good hunting". Flat land, patch woods and lots of coons is what I am looking for. I would rather have 50 degree nights. T-shirt weather is what I like, no heavy coats. The bugs don't bother me but the cold weather does. I had a great time at your house in June. That is the weather that I like. I don't care about the fur. I am a dog trainer, not a fur harvester. I had to go to 2 different Wal Marts yesterday to buy enough bullets to take next week. I wish that you and Andy/Joe lived closer together so that we could get together one night. It would be great to turn Reba, Rage, Big D and Moose all loose at the same time. Now that would be a sight to behold. I wonder if they could tree a coon? I guess that I will have to let Tom Tom stand in for his 3/4 brother Moose. Yes, my future is so bright I had to get some new sunglasses while I was at the Wally World. They are rose colored.

Congrats;

I'm impressed with his consistency! I'll tell you like I do everyone else! The best Insurance policy you can have is to have him drawn immediately! That way guys can breed to him & you can keep his mind on his business! Besides that, God forbid that something happens to him, you will have a future for him in the stub pen whether he is still alive or not!
Good luck with him! Please consider what I suggest. You can sleep better knowing that you have protected your future!

Frost...

There was heavy frost on the pumpkin this morning...felt great!

Andy Kath came over for a hunt last night and it was a tough night with two rusty dogs. We managed to make a couple of trees and then I messed up the camera so none of the pictures turned out worth a crap...

I got this one of Yank...

It's blurry but I hated to not at least have one to post after taking 20 of them and having none of them turn out...sorry Andy...none of the rest could even be made out at all.

Dave went to a hunt last night and came up a little short for the last cast win on Moose. He got beat on a tie breaker when Moose was treed as time ran out but it was a hole in the ground.

Congratulations to Buck and Wendell and Willow for their fist place win last night...GREAT JOB! Willow and Moose both only need a cast win to finish to Nite Ch. so the Rabble Rouser and Sally cross is proving to have been a good one.

At least you know the pix were bad. Back in the old days, you wouldn't know till you got the film back. ARHGGGG

Fired JJ up last night. Took EZ with. First drop. She layed up on a den. Big cottonwood. Couldn't get her to leave that area after words. Loaded up.
Second drop went better. She pushed the coon right across the top of my boots. She was about a 1/2 second behind it. She ran across my boots followed by EZ. Treed in a red oak. I couldn't find it.
I love them frosty nights. PERFECT hunting weather. Now the leaves will start falling like crazy after the frost. We need some rain and a good wind. They'll be gone.

Brrrr, only 6 more days, I can't wait. It looks like I will have to wear my 2010 UKC World Championship Top 20 jacket. Josh, Reba's crown is mighty heavy. You have to have a pretty big head if you are going to wear it.

Cuz

Congratulations to Mark Bates and Cuz

I heard from Mark Bates this morning and he told me that he entered Cuz in a hunt last night and came away with a first place win. Cuz ended up with 350+ and 125- so got the win with 225+.

Cuz just turned 11 months old in October and has been tracking and treeing his own coon since about 8 months old. He's got a ways to go yet to make a full blown coon dog but he's sure made some big steps so far this summer and early fall.

Cuz will be one to look out for next spring and summer, I think he's going to make something of himself, he has good breeding and is in the hands of a good dog man and that's a good combination.

Cuz is by way of:
Nite Ch. PR T-Top Northwoods Yankee
and
PR Stitt's Little Ann

I'd also like to say Congratulations to Don Barnett Sr, Jason Goodwin and Allan Gullet for the real nice work they are doing with their Nite Ch. Deuce dog.

Deuce picked up his 4th win towards Gr. Nite Ch. last night.

Deuce is by way of:
Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser
and
Ch. Gr. Nite Ch. PR Machine Gun Annie

Great job guys, it was a real good night for these young hounds.

With all of those top males out of Rabble, you don't have to worry about semen off Rabble. Those T-Top hounds just keep getting better and better and better. I can't wait to see what the great grand pups out him are going to be like. I just hope that I will be able to hunt a great great grand pup off Rabble. How many Gr Nt Ch's does Rabble have now?

Posted by topdog on 10-10-2010 06:52 PM:

Congratulations to Dave and Moose

Dave finished Moose to Nite Champion last night with another first place win. He scored 375+ and 25- for the cast win and the first place win with 350+

Moose is an outstanding young hound and at 2 years old has made a real nice move from spring to now to finish. He'll start the next phase of his career soon and will be showing his stuff out east as we move into winter this year.

Moose ended up with a 1st, 9th, 1st and 1st to finish.

I also heard from Mark Bates again this morning. He entered Cuz into another hunt last night, it ended up with one cast of open registered and he got another cast win and first place win with Cuz. He took some minus on one drop but made a good track and tree to get the plus points for the cast win.

Congratulations Mark, nice job with a real nice young prospect. That's not bad to have two first place wins on an 11 month old pup. Look out for next year, it sounds like you and Cuz could be a tough draw.

I also see that Don Barnett's Deuce dog finished to Grand Nite Ch. last night....you won't see a much better run from open registered to Nite Champion to Grand Nite Champion than what that young male has made from late summer to now.

Great job everyone...what a great weekend for these young hounds..

Plus...we did some training today and had an outstanding session...photos to come later today.

Training day...

It was a great weekend for some real nice young hounds across the country, that have T-Top roots and I'd like to congratulate all those folks for their wins.

Dave and I got to do some training today and although it was a hot day in Wisconsin for this time of the year, we had a real good session.

The male in the Red collar is going to NC and the leather collar is going to Tenn.

Wonderful prospects...

Lots of action...

This is Cloud and Slim...

Another nice shot of Cloud...

Notice Gun in these pictures, he's got the goods...He's the one without the collar...

Three of these males are out of Moose and Leinie. Cloud is in the green collar and he's out of Yank and Angel. Gun is out of Ace and Cherry and is one of the better looking young prospects I've seen at this age.

We let Gun tag along because he's willing to do it and is no trouble...nothing too much phases him. He just turned 4 months old and is taking to the program the way we like to see it done.

I've seen lots of good prospects come and go but this group of young dogs are as nice as they come. I'm very excited to see how Moose fit together with Leinie on this cross because these pups are going to be good ones for sure.

One last word about Gun...he is by way of Ace and Cherry and represents the 6th generation going back to Rocky. He is line bred but has some very good outside blood in his veins also and at this point in his training, I'll say that he's going to make a good one...just like others from his line like Rocky, Rat, Rabble, Raven, Yank, Moose and Ace and all the rest. I love to see this kind of progression, it's what we work for year after year and generation after generation.

Dave Woofter put Ace and Cherry together because he did his homework and he recognizes how good ones are put together...Ace and Cherry were a good mix of blood and I'd say we'll hear good things from that cross in the not so distant future.

I love this stuff...

Hey Tim, your pup has a brown leather collar on. He's on the tree in the second picture in this most recent group of pictures.

He's a really nice prospect, good looking, good build and loud mouth and very coon and tree minded.

I really like these young dogs, I think they're all going to make good ones.

Hey Tom

Tom I took that pup I got from you out Friday night.
I took Will with Fern to introduce him the the woods at night. I wasn't expecting much figured he would hang out by my feet. When we cut them he shot out like a gun went in about 300 yards and opened up I figured he was booger barking until Fern opened. Will went right Fern went left he spun around headed her way bawling the whole time. He had a little trouble crossing creek and the deadening. They went in 1.18 miles according to the Garmin had to drive around to other side. By the time we got there it was 45 minutes later Fern was still hammering and lil Will was laying under tree waiting on me. The sad part is I shot 9 times and missed Rocky every time guess I am rustier than the dogs. Over all I am impressed how the lil 6 month old handled himself for the 1st time. I figured you would like to hear how he is doing.
