New day...
Those are nice pictures Carl and the buck is a dandy for sure.
When I got up this morning, this is how the back of the Ranger looked...
Dave had a real good night with Moose and Leinie, harvesting 6 coons out of 8 trees made.
The dogs will get a night off tonight and I'm sure Moose will appreciate the break...he's been getting a lot of work over the last couple of weeks with some long nights and making lots of trees.
We're looking forward to the next few weeks before our gun deer season comes around...we'll get some real good work on these hounds and we're looking forward to enjoying good times spent with some good friends

Is that all?? It looks like a bunch of kittens. Dave must have wiped out a whole family. Did he tree them or did Moose run them down and catch them? Night off??? Dave must be getting old, I doubt that Moose wants a night off!
Wants????
It's not up to Moose
Yep...I suppose these Wisconsin coons are a lot smaller than what you've got down south...eh? Anyway...we've got to get through the first wave before we can start havesting da turdy pounders on a regular basis...
Besides...we don't want to leave too many easy ones for when Pastor Mike, Buck and Jason are here...we want some tough ol' ridge runners to give them a true taste of Wisconsin hill country hunting...it'll be fun!

Come on now! Buck told me he has been in strict training. When the kids go to bed when he is working 2nd shift he goes to the gym. At least that is what he told me.
Looking forward to coming up next week.

Link is a littermate to Topdog's Gun dog and is looking nice at 4 months old. By the way of Ace and Cherry. Dave
Next week...
It's shaping up to be a good time I think. It has been very dry but there is some rain predicted for late on the weekend and early next week with much cooler temperatures. It should make for very good tracking conditions if we don't drown in a down pour.
We'll do some pup training next week also and you guys can feast your eyes on some very nice young prospects including Gun who is a mate to Link and the rest of those nice pups out of Ace and Cherry. It's fun to see these youngsters falling into place just like all the rest who came before them...it's exciting to see it again and again.
Don't be giving Buck grief about staying at the truck...I prefer to have someone to talk to when I'm guarding it in the middle of the night...of course...I'll probably make it to a tree or two...and then Buck will have to guard it alone...We're just kidding Buck...a guy will do what a guy can do and that's all we can do...eh?
I had to mention that I heard Link and Hussler on the tree when he played back a recording for me the other day...those pups sounded like BIG dogs and I mean Link was laying on it hard...I love that stuff...

I'll join this parade. Here's Gun's and Link's lil sis EZ. All ready starting to muscle up and hunting out 500 yards with the big dogs.
Get "her" dun.

Gotta love it...
It won't be long and Breeze will be stuck to the side of a tree somewhere...that's pretty good for a 4 month old pup to be traveling the dark that far. I honestly believe that this Gun pup would track and tree his own coon already if he'd stumble across an easy one.
Just a few more days and we'll have some good nights of hunting to share with some good friends. Pastor Mike, Buck and Jason should be heading north west by the weekend and hopefully we'll get good weather and some good nights in the woods...I'm looking forward to it. We'll be seeing Scott roll in around mid week also and then we'll really have a crew to stir up the coon population.
Dave went to the woods last night...gone at 7:30 PM and home by 9:45 PM with two big boars, both around 25 pounds...must have been a pretty good night, even with it being so darned dry that the leaves crunch to powder when you walk in the woods...

I am getting teary eyed. I had better go get some Kleenex. Tom, can I have your half of Moose?
Friends
Dogs come and go but good friends are always there.
Most folks don't know me and I suppose I don't let many get that close but...I know I've been blessed with some good friends who are good people, like Dave, Mike, Buck, Scott, Aaron, Chris, Tim and a few others.
These dogs are only a means to an end and that is to be able to enjoy life with folks who maybe see it just a little bit like you do and who aren't afraid to let their enjoyment bubble over and who just can't wait to share the next great moment with you...
I've spent countless hours as a young man walking these woods alone...most of the time it was because, I suppose, I preferred my own company to that of others. One thing I've learned as I got older is that these great or little moments in time are meant to be shared with others who can appreciate the simplicity of it all and who can notice the little things that make you smile...It's not about selling another dog, it's about finding someone who can enjoy these special dogs and honestly appreciate how good even the little things they do can make you feel.
In the mean time...we're on the verge of something really special about to happen and I hope I'm able to see it all come to pass.
Sounds kind of corny I suppose but if you read it and understand it, then no further explanation is necessary.
Richard...if you talk nice to Buck...maybe he'll let you lead Moose a night or two...I'll be interested to see how it all plays out. One thing I know is that you're going to have to start enjoying the process more or all these good times will pass you by...eh?
I guess there's another thing I know...you could work on getting Buck's half of Moose because you sure won't get mine. Moose is an example of what I'm talking about here...his value isn't in what he's worth, it's in how he was another part of this same process and how I've been able to share how special he is with people who can really appreciate him.

Corny
I guess maybe what I said had a little to much detail. Maybe the correct thing to say was Thanks Tom and Dave for all the help you have gave me in finding a Red dog that I could hunt and be proud of. Dave
Tom, I too hunt by myself mostly. It is not so much because I prefer my own company as it is that no one else can stand me. I also would like the pleasure/enjoyment of owning such a fine hound as Moose. Maybe we could work out a deal on 1/2 of your 1/2. As you said, their worth is in that "pride of ownership". Don't you think that I haven't been talking nice to Buck, but I am afraid that Jason is talking "nicer". Buck and I co-owned a pretty nice female together once. Buck has had sole ownership of her for quite some time but I still "claim" part of her. Even if I sell a dog, I still feel that "pride of ownership" when they go on to do well. I really love it when I can sell a dog but still get to handle them in some hunts. If you have a daughter and she grows up, gets married and moves out on her own, you feel like she is still "yours". Dave don't let me stop you from being "corny". As I said, I had to lighten the mood to keep from tearing up and we all know that real men don't cry.
Ok
Group Hug................hehehehehe.
Well we all know that Da Moose will be on the road for 2011. It is going to be a fun ride and not for just one person. Good friends, team work, and good Hounds, that is what makes THE VIRGINIA CARTEL.

Hey Richard
Is that what it is. I like hunting by my self too. The boys don't even want to hunt with me much anymore. Brayden is almost solo right now. He has put together a fairly impressive bear pack. He put in alot of leg work a few dollars and alot of miles. I think as we get older those young ones want to try it on their own. It's just that pride thing.

Wisconsin bound...
Hey Jason, it will be good to meet you finally and I'm sure we'll get those young dogs on some good tracks and trees if they can keep up with Moose, Yank and Leinie. The corn is coming off fast around here and they're predicting rain for tomorrow and Sunday so hopefully it will soak the leaves enough to make for better tracking for those youngsters.
Dave had two real nice coons sitting on the back of the Ranger again this morning so even with the full moon and very dry conditions, the dogs are finding them and getting them treed. I heard on the radio today that there could be a "wintry" mix Wednesday into Thursday and the high on Thursday is supposed to be around 44 so it's going to feel like fall in Wisconsin by mid week...it should be a good time.
The wood furnace is going and the house is warm and toasty so let it come...those kinds of nights are what makes hunting fun in this part of the country and getting home out of the weather feel so much better...

Winter?
Tom,
If you would be so kind as to keep winter up there this year, I would be appreciative! I have decided to ("BOYCOTT") winter this year in Indiana! Thanks for your cooperation!!! HEE! HEE!
P.S. " THAT'S A SURE SIGN THAT I'M GETTING OLD TOO FAST!" Have a great time with Buck & Mike!
John
