BO
Scott, yea, me and Ole Bo are pretty tight. He ain't perfect but I like him a lot and he's my buddy. Last night he showed me another example of how smart he is. When I'm going hunting I walk through the house gathering up my gun, water bottle, light, ect. and he will be watching from his upper deck through the windows as I'm getting it all together and when I come down the steps and the instant my foot hits the ground he blows up in the kennel letting me know he's ready to go. Last night I didn't hunt but put the light on my head and went down the steps with it on and out into the yard to Beverly's 4 wheeler, got on it and fired it up and put it under the house in case it rained. Next I went and got on mine near the kennel and put it up. BO said nothing during all of this. Went to the out building and got their feed and fed them up and went back in the house. BO was silent the whole time. Either he is smart enough to know I wasn't packing the .22 or maybe my walk was a little different but whatever it was he knew we weren't hunting. If I ride Beverly's 4 wheeler during the day he pays no attention but if I get on mine he throws a fit. If I get in the red truck he pays no attention but if I get in the black truck or start washing it like we are headed on a road trip he will blow up in the pen. Fun to watch him study me during the day, you can see him just trying to figure out what I'm up to. I was looking forward to seeing you at the Battle but I don't think I will make it even though I had planned to. I sold Briar so I don't have to go to Troy's to pick him up and work is about to pick up and I wasn't positive I could get off next Thursday. Also I wanted to squeeze in a trip to MR. Ed's in Illinois this week but that didn't work out so looks like I will go next week if the weather cooperates up there. Told him I wasn't coming if it was in the teens and icing up, lol! Hopefully it will be decent. Good luck to you and Creek at the Battle. I was thinking a couple weeks ago it would have been nice to hook up with you out there before the hunt and cast BO and Creek a couple times then cast Music and Briar a couple times. Hope you enjoy the hunt, Take Care.

Memories
Steve, do you recognize these two fellows above. The dog in the picture was a littermate sister to the Sheba dog that I bought from Frank that you raised. I can't remember her name. I bought her from Mr. Frank too, after Sheba died. They were both fine females. I wish I had them to day. The one in the picture was killed by a car. Just thought you would like to see the picture. Take care Steve.
FRIENDS
Yes Sir Mr. Jack, I recognize those two. I talked to both of them on the phone today. Going to make a trip and see Mr. Ed next week if all goes well between now and then. Those pups out of Spanky and Glenda were nice. Sheba was the nicest female I ever had and she was a young dog when I sold her to MR. Frank due to a divorce I was going through. Thanks for sharing that picture, it sure brings back a lot of memories. I ain't forgot about us getting together for a hunt but my 4 wheel drive quit working on my 4 wheeler and I been hunting out of the boat. I think its just the switch gone out, nothing major I hope. Putting it in shop this week and will have it fixed soon. Until then your welcome to come take a boat ride anytime.
Chris, Briar is still at Troy's house but has been spoken for by Wendell McCool. How's that English pup and Wolf been doing?

BO and STORMY
Chris, Wendell is located near Greenville Ms. Not far from where the Winter Classic is held. He hunts the Delta National Forest and the WMA around it. I hated to sell Briar and honestly when I took him to Troy that sure wasn't my plan but I knew if I didn't and he came back here I never would and I can't hunt them all. BO is my hound and is never going anywhere, he will die here. But I can't hunt both of them the amount they need and now I have Bam and he's showing a lot of promise then I have the other younger ones. Tough choice but best for Briar and me. I proud to hear Wolf is getting it done for you and that Chance sounds like a great prospect.
Took BO and Stormy tonight to Haunted House Bottom. I can't go to the swamp until my 4 wheeler is fixed so I have to stay on drier trails but its more walking usually over at this place and tonight was no different. Stormy hasn't been out in 5 months probably and is Old, Fat and out of shape, like me but when I unsnapped her she left like a shot side by side with BO. They struck at over 500, worked the track for a couple hundred then treed. I drove a little closer but it was still 552yds through the woods to them. When you leave the trail it drops off into a seep that is boggy for a ways but then came up on a little ridge that took me all the way to them and the walking was a lot better than I thought. I made a video as I came into the tree that I will post in a bit. Ole Ma Ma and Daddy was telling him they knew he was up there and he was, laid out on a big limb flat as he could get but not looking. Took the bright light to find him. I petted them up and left him to run with Bam one day. I put out another feeder here so I have several out now and in a week or so they should be hitting a couple of them and I will start hunting Bam for one drop a couple times a week by himself then one drop with Ole Stormy. It was starting to rain when I pulled them off the tree so we came on in.

BOGUE CHITTO ROSE
For the 5th time in as many weeks Bogue Chitto Rose and I found ourselves back at the Vets office but not the one I went to the previous 4 times. At some point even a dummy like me says enough is enough and we have to do something different. The pups had got Coccidia way back and the Albon cleared them up but then a few got the loose stool again and more bottles of Albon at 25 bucks a pop. They all got better except Rose. She would be fine a few days then here we went again. I have boiled chicken and mixed with feed to get her to eat, give her Pedialyte, wormed and rewormed her, tape worm pill, bleached kennels 3 times, threw food and water bowls away and bought new ones, ect. Blade is fine, but poor little Rose has been through hell. The Vet I kept going to just kept giving anti biotics even though nothing was showing up, NOTHING. Give Probiotic pills, Vitamins, chicken broth. The help tending to the hounds while we were gone on the trip give the medicine like they should have but while we were gone Rose quit eating and drinking and become VERY DEHYDRATED. I wasn't told. I got home last Monday evening and went out to my pens and was sick to see what Rose looked like. Back to the same Vet last week and put her on different antibiotics even though Nothing was showing up. Most all I have been doing was gathered from UKC Forum doing Search which is very helpful but the Vet would just say, " Give her two of these pills a day " then bill me AGAIN. I was stupid enough to trust him 4 times for the same problem but never again. I got another Vet's number from Mr. Jack and went there today and as you can see we are giving her drip as she has her head on my arm. I stayed there 3 hours until we had a bag of drip in her then left. I will pick her up tomorrow evening. Her heart rate is 200, high. White Blood count is 27,000, very high which shows raging infection or inflammation. Can't have infection after all the meds she has took in past few weeks. He said kidney and liver is ok but her intestines are sick and not digesting her food right so therefore she isn't getting the nutrients and protein she has to have. Her belly is swollen real bad but she has no muscle mass left, just skin and bones. Its been breaking my heart for weeks trying to do everything I could think of and watching her keep going down hill while I paid the stupid Vet wads of money. This new Vet said I should have been giving her Ensure as it has protein but Pedialyte does not. Also he said feed her baby food in a syringe. They will keep her tonight and get more drip in her and tomorrow then she will come home and I know more about what I need to do and give her to get her on her feet. No more antibiotics, he said that was sterilizing her stomach. I made this cross of Stormy and Bo for a female pup and I Pray little Rose makes it. This is only my 3rd litter to ever raise and I've done all I know to do. Probably will never raise another. For all you breeders out there I have even more respect now for yaw and all you go through to get these little ones raised up healthy. If I was a breeder and hunter and had bred my hounds over the years to get the style hound that suited me and raised up a litter of fine bred, healthy pups that were UKC Performance and PKC SS and was selling them for 500 and someone tried to get me to take less money, I would tell them to kiss off in a heartbeat. People in the cities and country to don't think twice about giving that for a little fur ball yapping puppy that ain't worth 2 cents in my book. Rose will be living in the house a few weeks until she's straight or kicks the bucket. Any of yaw have any experience with a sick pup like this I would love to see how you handled it or any other suggestions yaw might have, thanks Mr. Jack for the phone number to your Vet. He's kind of a smart " A " but as long as he is saving my pup I won't show him I can be one too.

Bam and Bo
Took Bam and Bo to Black Branch Swamp tonight and cut them down a hollow that goes into the swamp bottom. As I was waiting on a strike I put out another bucket feeder. I now have 4 out since last weekend and tomorrow I will put the Jet Boat back in the river and Bam and I will go see if they have found the one down river yet. They struck tonight at almost the same time and went to working a track down the swamp. Bo fell treed at 427yds but Bam kept trailing. On the Garmin he had been just to the right of Bo's track so I feel they had two different tracks going. I rode to within 100yds of Bo and sat and listened to him tree as Bam worked his track 300yds deeper into the swamp, swung right with it then hit a big flooded stretch of timber and lost it and came back in to Bo. I was proud that this pup that is 5 months old is already showing this kind of independence, trailing away from a treed hound working his on track. I like it and will love it when he finishes those tracks setting under a coon. I went into BO and he had a coon up a big Bay tree. We left him for Bam to run another day.

Rose
Sorry to hear you have been having so much trouble with her. It always seems to happen to the one you raised the litter to get for yourself. Now that you have gotten a 'second opinion' it sounds like she will get back on track, if not to late from all the other stuff you have put in her. Hopefully, when i come down for BBOA Days in May, she'll be big, strong & getting after those 'swamp runners' you chase around down there. Take care, Ron.
ROSE
Thanks Ron. I picked her up from the Vet yesterday evening and handed him 427 bucks. But I don't know if it was the right thing to do. Maybe should have went on and put her down as she still don't look any better even after all the fluids they put through her. They sent her stool off to a lab in Memphis and it showed nothing. So it is a matter of keeping her hydrated and getting some food in her with a syringe. He said Thursday evening she ate good and was wagging her tail but not yesterday. That is the same way she had been since I got home from our trip, good one day and give you hope but then bad the next. I can't stand to see one like this it just breaks my heart. Beverly and I will feed her and treat her like a baby for a few more days and hope she starts coming around. Look forward to meeting you in May and if you want to come down a few days early and do some hunting on the Bogue Chitto River then come on. I have a place for you and your hound to stay, Take Care.

Steve,
I hope your pup gets better. There are so many virus's that they can get and sometimes they never figure it out they just get better or not. Good luck.

DEER HUNTING
Thanks Scott but I don't think she will get better. They give her two days of drip a B-12 shot and sent me home with meds but she can't keep nothing down. She don't want to eat or drink and all we put in her comes back up. We will keep trying today but if no change by tomorrow I will put her down. When I carry her outside and put her down she tries to wander off to the woods but looks back at me and if I'm to close she will set down. I think she is trying to go off and die alone. Sad to see and I felt like this is what it would come to but against my gut feeling I carried her to the other Vet thinking he would most likely put her down but he didn't and that give us false hope. I won't EVER raise another litter of pups.
This is a picture of a yearling deer from this morning. I was inside sipping some coffee and saw several of them go by my Sinker Logs in the yard and head down to the sand bar. I grabbed my Black Powder Rifle and slipped down to the pier and set down and drew my knees up for a rest and waited. This one came out and I took a few pictures then another then the big doe. As I drew a bead and watched them all I could think about was that little sand bar and that the trail along the river they were headed to that leads to the bigger sand bar and all the times Mason and I have walked with the pups under those River Birch in the sand and looking for deer tracks and enjoying life and that back at the house Little Rose was losing her life little by little. I eased the gun down and choked up. It was just to pretty a moment in a sad moment of my life to be ruined by the sound of a gun shot and blood on the white sand. I watched as they nibbled on green briar leaves as they moved slowly out of sight then I went and put the gun away. There will be another day to fill my freezer but it won't be today.

ON THE RIVER
Took Bam and Bo down river tonight in the Jet Boat. Pulled in where I have the first feeder and cut Bam but held Bo. Bam struck hot and down through the woods he went so I cut Bo. He went right and slammed a tree at 67yds and blew the top out. I went into him and he had a coon up a big oak and as I was hooking him up and pulling him off the tree I heard Bam treeing at 250yds. We started to him but he quit it and came back so I loaded them in the boat and went across the river and cut BO. He didn't go 200yds and just fell treed. I led Bam and we went to see and BO had a coon up a river Birch right beside a deer hunters pile of shucked corn. Left the coon to run again and loaded up and moved a quarter mile up river. Cut them loose and Bo got struck but it wasn't a great track but he moved it on out opening here and there then drifting some and picking it up and it kept getting better and better and soon Bam was putting in some with him. They got almost 600 from me so I fired up the Jet Boat and went to the house. Mason and Beverly came outside by the fire and we could hear them treed close to 900yds from the house. I got on the 4 wheeler and rode close as I could but it was still 537yds to them. I got in there and they were on a big pine but I could shine it good and he was looking at me with both eyes and moving around some. I knocked him on out and he hit the ground right beside where I had Bam hooked at and he grabbed him like he's an old pro. He didn't tree hard but he treed and was there when I got there. Looking forward to putting him on some Illinois Coon next week.

BOGUE CHITTO PEBBLES
Chris I haven't fooled with her yet on a coon. She just turned 4 months old so plenty time before I introduce her to the enemy. Bam is really to young but he is as mature as a year old or older hound. No puppy in him at all, just business. Pebbles on the other hand is full of play and we let her out every day and she burns up the place flying around checking everything out. I have her broke to lead and I saw her checking some trees the other day that I'm sure smelled of squirrel. She has a big, male dog mouth and is really a nice pup. I'm going to put my time in Bam until early summer trying to have him well started then I will fool with Pebbles. I don't want to throw her switch yet and from the signs I see I don't feel she is quite ready. When I had Storm and Rain I threw both their switches at about the same time and that was a mistake as one pup is a handful but two are a headache. How's Ole Wolf and Chance?

RIVER RATS!!!!
We spent the day riding in the Jet Boat checking out different sand bars and found several pieces of petrified wood. Top picture is Blade enjoying the ride on the river and the next picture is Beverly doing her selfie while we blasting upriver. Next picture is her and Mason and Pebbles walking a log and the last picture is Pebbles checking out a smell. She did a lot of that today, things are starting to catch her attention. She is a very fast and agile gyp. She should be able to fly on track. Her nose is pretty good too. I had a rock in my hand that was a pretty cool looking rock and she kept worrying me for it. I said you want it go get it and I tossed it about 20yds down the rock bar. She took off and nosed around a minute and I saw her pick up a rock about where I thought that one landed and here she came back to me stepping proud. Sure enough it was the same rock, I was impressed.
On a sad note I buried Rose this morning. She had fought it long enough and had no fight or life left.

BAM
Thanks Jamie.
Took Bam tonight by himself to Haunted House Bottom where I had put a feeder last week. I cut him about 50yds from the feeder and he went that way then turned right and started opening going up the creek. At 88yds he located several big, long locates but didn't lock it down. He hushed and searched around a bit but didn't move it out or get back on the tree. When I had got of my 4 wheeler I heard a pop and I shook the left back tire and it was popping at the end of the axle so I caught Bam up and we went back home before I pushed my luck to far. Going to see if the shop can take it tomorrow and fix the switch for 4 wheel drive and check the axle. Hopefully be fixed when I get back from Illinois. Going to take Bam with me and see how he does in a good coon population. Weather for up there looks good through the rest of this week so hoping we tree a dozen every night!

Man Steve, I’m sorry to hear about Rose. I have been out of touch the last few week and just found out from Sleepy at the hunt that you have been battling this. Just a word of encouragement, if you have a good cross and want a female, Make It Again.

ROAD TRIP
Thanks Tommy. I liked all the pups off BO and Stormy and in a year we will know if the cross was a good one or not but Ole Stormy will be 9 then and that's just getting to old for her to have to deal with having another litter. I have plenty pups now just not the female I had my mind on but have a nice one from Casey off Zero that so far I like a lot. In a few months I will start working her. We will get together one night for a hunt. February is the best month for me as deer season is over and I have several other spots I can hunt then. Take Care.
Road Trip early in the morning BO, Bam and I will hit the road to Illinois. We will be picking up a hitch hiker and his hound and both of us are looking forward to some great hunting. I told MR. Ed that the hounds better bring their " A " Game because the weather is going to be perfect. About 40 degrees at night, not much moon and a good coon population and no leaves on the trees. We will hunt 2 maybe 3 nights then make our way back south. Already have the Black Truck packed and Bo's bed behind my seat. He will ride up front with us going but he better show me a pile of coon or he will find his self back in the box for the trip home.
