ILLINOIS

Mr. Jack and I made the trip to Mr. Ed's and Mrs. Mary's in Illinois and have made it back home. Something came up and we had to cut our trip short but we still had a great time. Thank You Mr. Ed Mauney and Mrs. Mary for opening up your home, kennel and coon hunting woods to the two Outlaws from the South, We had a GREAT TIME!!! Mr. Jack's hound, Smoke looked good and Mr. Ed's hound Bobbie looked OUTSTANDING. Bo, on the other hand looked pretty sorry. He's been struggling with tracks down here the past few months and I blamed it on lack of hunting and the drought then it rained and got some what better but not near where he was a year ago and the past two nights up there same story. Will have him Vet checked and this is one time I hope I hear he has something wrong or otherwise I don't have an answer for his poor performance. We will get it figured out and keep pounding the woods. Thanks again Mr. Ed and I'm looking forward to making the trip next year and hope to see yaw down this way soon.

Jason we found a couple yaw missed and we treed a couple Muckets that flew out of the tree before we got there, lol, Slicks! One coon heard Mr. Jack was coming with Smoke and he climbed up a power pole and committed suicide.

I don't reckon that coon on that power pile is ever gonna rot. That thing was up there when I was there.

Bobbie, Smoke and Bo treed on the 2nd coon of three in a row that Bobbie treed. Screaming fast on both ends and a stay put, ACCURATE tree hound. She is FOR REAL!! Video of them on this tree coming tomorrow.

ILLINOIS VIDEO

This is a video from Thursday night behind the Cabin at Mr. Ed's. Dogs on the tree are, Bobbie owned by Mr. Ed, Smoke owned by Mr. Jack and Bo owned by me. Click on picture to see video and the coon in the little tree, Big Coon.

Roger I know your glad Thunder is back home and you getting to hunt him again. Yes I took Bam Bam and made two drops with him the first night. First drop he went all the way with Smoke and Bo and Smoke slammed a tree at 400yds with a big coon in it and Bo backed him. We thought we heard Bam treeing to the left of them on the way in but when we got in there he had his nose down trying to work the track so I caught him up and made him watch Smoke meet Mr. Coon. Next drop he went all way again and Bo hit the tree with Smoke backing him. It was a thick Christmas tree looking pine in a clump of several and the coon was in the top of one. Bam was off 50yds away smelling around and didn't want me to catch him. I guess 11 hours in the dog box going up there was enough for him but I caught him up and I didn't cut him again. We are going to school and learn some come here manners in the back yard before slipping away from me becomes a bad habit. Terry Tucker has a male and Danny Glista has a female from this cross that treed her on coon night before last. It looks like 5 to 6 months old is when these pups go to work. I told Ed that I might cross Stormy on Boomer but still undecided. Stormy is a sister to Thunder's mom and a sister to Bam's mom. That whole litter from Hugger and IL. Mighty Blue Jake had titles of either Nt. Ch. or Gr. Nt. Ch. Looking like crossed on Boomer is producing the kind most folks like.

Coon Hunting

Caleb, I sure did enjoy hunting up there. Sure is a lot easier to get through the woods up there than it is down here. That is a Stone Creek Game Bag, just like Wick used to make and should last you a long time and make it easier to pack those 25lb coon out with. Bobbie sure looked great, you have her hitting on all cylinders. Keep her and your Paw Paw in the woods, Take Care.

Thanks Mr. Ed, I sure enjoyed it and plan to be back next year for a week. I told Mr. Jack we would Squirrel Hunt during the day and Coon Hunt at night. Maybe I will hit the Power Ball before then and buy that 400 acre bottom with those rock cliffs and pretty creek. That's my favorite place to cut them and behind the Cabin. Thanks Again!!

SMELLING THE FLOWERS

I don't ever remember mid December, middle of Deer Season being in the mid to upper 70's for so long that All the Azalea's are Blooming along with the Sweet Olive and some trees are budding out and putting on new leaves. GOD said when the end of time was at hand you wouldn't be able to tell the changing of the seasons. It sure looks like Spring here in the deep south. Deer are still moving as you can see by the deer in the top picture crossing the drive out by the gate. No bucks yet though but they coming. I start seeing them around the week before Christmas when the Rut kicks off. So next weekend it should start picking up around here. Heavy rain moving in tonight along with some Tornado threats so looks like no hunting tonight. I took Bam out last night and checked a couple feeders but they were empty so I filled them up. In the mean time he got in there close to 350yds and struck a track, moved it a short distance, located then I could tell he was in a hole. I went in and he had his head in a Diller hole so I snapped him up and came home. We will hit the feeders this week after the rain clears out.

Indian Summer

Steve those are sure some pretty pictures. This weather has sure been nice, but its raining here tonight and I think the weather is fixing to change. The deer should start moving soon. I haven't seen any out on the roads much since season came in. I've only been hunting one time. I got a lot of doe pictures on the camera, but no bucks. They'll start moving as soon as this weather gets right. As soon as ole Bo gets healed up I would like to try that two hour coon again. I think Bam is a smart pup, he will get it all figured out soon.

BO

Thanks Mr. Jack, Bo has Vet appointment tomorrow at 11 with your Vet. They will do a full panel on him and do a Thyroid test, check his ears, his back foot he keeps limping on, give his booster shots, ect. Blood gets picked up at 12:30pm tomorrow so should have results the next day or so. If nothing is found then I guess I will just blame myself for not hunting him enough to look as sharp as he should and I will have to tighten up. We will get together soon.

Briar ended up staying in Oklahoma. Troy and Wendell talked and Wendell knows what its like to want to keep a young dog off your stud close to home. Glad they worked that out and hope Briar does great things in the future. Saw a video of him on Facebook a little bit ago and he was sounding and looking good up on the wood.

Bam and I will hit it again tonight and see how it goes.

BO and his BO BO

Had a busy day today that started with me leaving the house before 7am this morning going about an hour up the road to drop my Jet Boat off to be serviced and new water pump. Came home and got Bo and road about 40 minutes to the Vet for his Test. He checked him over great, drew blood and sent it off and give booster shots. He had no worms as I knew he wouldn't but he had a little fever and his left back toe is Broke and infected and he said so is the bone because its been broke a while. I would see him limp on it from time to time the past few months but I thought it was just where he had tore his pad. He called in some antibiotic to my drug store to save me some money. Its called Clindamycin and I have to give it to him for 3 weeks twice a day and he wears a boot on the paw for that length of time and NO HUNTING. He said sometime the infection in the bone can be hard to get rid of and if it don't get better he will have to cut it off. I sure hope not. Will have results of full panel maybe by tomorrow evening. Brought Bo home and they had called and said my 4 wheeler was ready except they didn't have the 4 wheel drive fixed they were waiting on a part that will be after first of the year coming. So I headed 45 minutes south and picked it up and brought it home then headed back up the rode and got my Jet Boat and brought it home. Rode all day but while I had off work I needed to get it all done. Back to work tomorrow.

Didn't hunt Bam last night as I got some bad news none of us ever want to hear. My Mom has been hurting in her bladder area and went to DR. While doing exam they could see and feel a Mass so they did Cat Scan and she has a big mass above her bladder that he told her is Cancer. They hadn't done a Biopsy but said he didn't need to because he's sure it is Cancer. She told him she would wait until after the Holidays to go to the Specialist but he said she couldn't wait so she is going to Jackson Thursday morning and I Pray the Dr. is wrong. Please keep my Mom in your prayers.

Sorry to hear about your mom, Steve. We'll be praying for her and your family. Hope Bo's foot heals up, too.

MOM and BO

Thanks Chris. Mom's surgery is set up for the 30th but she is trying to find a DR. to do it sooner. The DR Thursday wouldn't do a Biopsy, said Mass needed to be took out then spot closed up then do biopsy. Praying for good news when that day comes.

I was at our Company Christmas party today at a bowling alley when the Vet called with results on Bo's test. I couldn't half hear in there but he said something on BO was Very Low and that it was a sign of Thyroid Problem, But, he was having Lab run another test that's costing me 40 more bucks. I think he called it a T 3, T4 and Free T 4. It will let him know for sure what's going on with the Thyroid before he will give him any meds. Be glad when BO and I can hit the woods again. Haven't hunted Bam any just to much going on and haven't been in the mood. We will get back to it soon.

Steve, I pray your mother's surgery is a sucess and she heals soon. I also pray Bo gets well and back to the woods soon. I know how you feel, as my Traveler dog is currently sick. It sure gives a guy a depressing feeling knowing his dog isn't well and not able to hit the woods at the best hunting time of the year.

EAGLE

Today I been busy cleaning up the yard by burning limbs, chopping up leaves with the mower and blowing out the gutters, ect. While making a round with the mower I was looking up the river and spotted this Bald Eagle setting in the tree watching me. I went and got my phone and eased his way and took a few pictures while he was in the tree then caught the two pictures of him flying after he pitched out. You can clearly see his white head and tail feathers. We see them time to time here on the River and its always a thrill to get this close and get some pictures.

Thanks Kenny and sorry to hear Traveler is under the weather. Seems like years ago I didn't visit the Vet near as much as I do now. I think the more meds we give them and take ourselves the weaker the immune system gets and the hounds and us get sicker quicker. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

DEER HUNTING

Picture of the Doe I killed this morning. That will put about 70lbs of stuffed smoked sausage in the freezer. When I drove the Kubota across the yard to load her up I saw there was 5 new scrapes around the edges so I have a Buck in the area to target next now that I have some for the freezer.

BO

Thanks Guys.

The Vet called me this evening and he had got the results back from Bo's other Thyroid Test and it showed to be a little low so he wants me to come to his office tomorrow and he's giving me 60 supplement pills, enough for 30 days then we will test him again and the main thing is when I go back to hunting him do I have my Special Coonhound back or the one that's been struggling with tracks? I hope this and the broke toe is why he hasn't been impressing me much for the past few months. We shall see.
