Doug that's some.... Early this week we had2 ft of snow and -40 wind chill very windy..... Kept me real buisy at work removing snow! That's a easy way to deer hunt! Lol. Speck looks good buddy

Tonights Hunt

Paul and I had a good but wet hunt tonight. Snow has melted and the boars are makin tracks! We had two dens, one slick and three on the outside. Three nice boars all close to 20 lbs and fur in good shape not rubbed yet. We hunted Pauls Mainstreet Jacki, my Bluspeck and my young Speckled Rae.

Tuesday Hunt

Gotta get when the gettins good so took advantage in a break in the weather again tonite. Frosty 27, clear, still and a bright full moon. Paul and I hunted Bluspeck and his two young daughters my Speckled Rae and Paul's Shine. Several good runs looked at four dens and three on the outside.

Little Rae is turning into a slobber mouth treedog!!

Thursday 01/16 hunt

This was a cold frosty nite with a little snow cover. You know what kind of a dog you have this time of year when they have to go up to a mile to find a track on the cold powder snow.

Cut Bluspeck and Rae off Cowie road woods, got a strike right off the getgo they ran a couple hundred yards and treed. Could see the hole walking in gave the tree a quick lookover and leashed dogs. As I was walking away I looked back and caught eyes high in the upper crotch, wasnt the first time had a coon on the outside of a den tree. Was a nice silver boar.

Cut dogs and they went deep, heard Bluspeck a long way off to the East, he was grubbing up an old track along a cut corn field, took it thru a small woods then into a plot of big Norway spruce, was sure he would tree in one of the big evergreens but worked further to a second cut corn field, they warmed it up and treed in a thick hedgerow. Could see the dark shape of a coon walking in without a light. Thick thorns and grapevines. Was an old bobtailed boar with worn teeth and most of his ears missing!

Third cut dogs went out of hearing again and had a den near a steep ravine.

Fourth cut dogs struck a track off a small 4pt buck carcass in the bottom of a ravine, headed up the other side of the steep ravine straight South, across a cut corn field, around a frozen beaver pond and deep into a swamp and treed. Was over a half mile dogs were treed a good 20 minutes before I got to them had another nice boar up a tree.

Fifth cut dogs treed in a huge Willow but coon got hung up in the crotch so had to leave him.

One last cut and treed another nice coon.

Good frosty hunt ended the nite with four nice boars on the tailgate.

This old man is draggin today but a good kinda tired. LOL. I love what my Bluspeck can do on these frozen nites with that ole cold nose. But you know those long ruttin runs!!! Take care!

Tanning Hides

My daughter and I are gonna try our hand at tanning a few coon hides anybody have any recommendations as to what to buy and use. Watched a few clips on youtube. Thanks.

Deep Cold

Looks like all of US has been hit one way or another. I love hunting on the snow but I know better than hunt in the deep freeze!!LOL!

They said next week gonna be colder in Georgia than in Anchorage Alaska! Keep them dog boxes full of straw!

Doug he looks good sretched out on that tree.it has been brutally cold here also with deep driftting snow we did put a small cat in a den today.my buddys bluetick female did a nice job he was so happy.ballz loved the heated seats in my subaru today lol

Frosty Tuesday 2/4 hunt

With the cold arctic winter lately the hunting has been at a standstill. With the season coming to a close in a week and more storms on the way I just had to get out and give it a try. It had gotten up to 23 today and being a nice still evening I thought I would try and see if ole Bluspeck could find me a coon on this snow before tonights storm hit. It was a frosty 17 when I left the house and headed up to the deserted end of Cowie road.

I cut Bluspeck into a cut corn field headed towards the woods and walked South off the dirt road. I figured we might be hard pressed to find a coon out on this crusty snow but figured a rutting boar might just be out checking dens. It was a good twenty minutes before Blu checked in he had made his way through the woods and frozen swamp so we headed further South towards the big ravine where I had seen a deer carcass last time a little over a mile from the truck. Sure enuff Blu struck down in the ravine and headed up the steep other side and South towards a big beaver pond and swamp. Almost out of hearing I heard the familiar long locates and Blu rolled it into a nice steady chop. I climbed the ravine huffing andf pufing and it took a good 15 minutes to get to him. Saw the coon walking in, crossed the beaver pond and swamp on the ice and found the tree to be a leaner the beavers had chewed.

Could see it was a nice big coon. But just my luck I shot and the coon wedged in the fork of the tree and got hung up!. Thats the third coon in this same woods that I had to leave in the tree!

Petted up Blu and hunted the west woods out back to the truck without a single strike. Called it a night, the heat in the truck felt good!

awesome doug ,i had no luck last night,i am glad you got one up.the more you post on speck the more hooked i get lol.i really have to get there and hunt.an old boy like that is few and far between.by the looks of him he is hard enough to sleep on a picket fence.
posted pics. of the pups.one female is snow white with a pink nose.they are 12 days now and just starting to color.half should color like callie the others like ballz.im likeing the w ite female.i hope no one wants her lol.all but two are spoken for,1 male 1 female

Awesome pic! Sorry bout the hang up coon... Bob is off work today with the snow here..and just before he went off to plow out work for the second time... we looked at this thread so I can tell you right NOW that he LOVED that tree! Rare to have him looking at the forum with me at the same time...
