I didn't even watch the race Sunday. My son did and he told me about the exciting finish. Heard a couple gobble from the house the other morning. Our season open April16. Way too late! These boys around here will have em so spooked you'll be lucky to get close to one! Thinking about doing a little catfishing. I sure do like the looks of that dog you call redstick. Is he out of your bo dog?

REDSTICK ACE
Thanks Bobby. Yes he is off my Bo and Stormy. Sleepy in Baton Rogue owns him. My Blade pup is his littermate and the way Blade has acted the past month he is about ready to start and so is Pebbles. I also have Bam lightly started and need to get on him hard when I get back to hunting. Got my hands full but I'm unemployed so I got the time now and going to have fun watching these pups get started and how they progress.

STEVE NO SIGN OF STORMY COMING IN TO HEAT YET
SHARP LOOKIN PUPS STEVE
Boomer X Stormy
Thanks Terry. Take the Ole Girl hunting with you and Bobbie if you feel like fooling with her. Don't know if you have noticed yet or not but right before she goes to the bathroom she will bawl out 5 or 6 times, do her business, then bawl out a few times to let you know she's done. I find it funny as heck that she is smart enough to know I'm the cleaner and she lets me know I need to get out there and do my job. Sorry to hear the news on Boomer and hope he gets over this soon. I know you are enjoying Bobbie as she is one super nice female. Last time I hunted with her she was clicking and putting them up Quick. 3 for 3 in short order. I'm going to have Bam back in the swamp tomorrow night. It's time to test this foot of mine out and he should be ready for some 4 night a week hunting. Take Care up there and hope Spring finds yaw soon.

EASTER WEEKEND
My Little Buddy came and spent the night with us and boy we had a busy day today. At daylight we were listening to turkeys gobble, then cut and pulled some Cypress Logs and had to watch for the little Cotton Mouth Snakes as you can see in the top picture. There were several around this tree and in some driftwood we picked up this evening. We checked the live traps but still no coon. Caught a buzzard in one yesterday which was a first. Then we rode in the Jet Boat, rode the 4 wheeler, boiled Crawfish and went swimming. Mason also hunted Easter Eggs and we ate plenty candy. Very busy and fun day. Tried to Coon Hunt last night but can't get my boot on. I'm getting around ok but still far from 100 percent and at end of every day my foot is swollen up from using it during the day. I'm frustrated but don't know what else to do. Try to get it on again in a few days. We swimming the hounds about everyday so maybe they won't be in to bad a shape. Hope everyone has a Happy Easter and get to watch the kids and Grandkids have fun hunting eggs and sharing their candy with us old folks. Funny story to tell on Mason. We were going to get the Crawfish this morning and he told me to turn the radio up. I told him lets listen to some good ole rock and roll music by 38 Special. We listened to it a while, stopped and got the Crawfish and headed back home. He said, " Paw Paw, turn up that 48 Special! " I laughed because that's Jimmie Johnsons number and I knew he had Nascar on his mind but sure liked that Southern Fried Rock by 38 Special!

BACK AT IT !!!
Bo and I hit the woods tonight. Been a long time coming and it sure felt good to sit on the tailgate of the Kubota and listen to him trail a coon in and out of a slough and beaver pond. He finally treed but I could tell he didn't like it all that well. He would tree a minute then I would hear him splashing around and swimming then back to treeing. I went on in there and took a few pictures but he had missed him. Felt so good to be back in the woods I really didn't mind to much. I know my hound and in a couple weeks we will be getting tuned back up and he won't be missing. My hunting boots have always been tight and with this foot still a little swollen it was tough getting it in the boot and even worse getting it out. I have a great old boot jack and used it to get the boot off or I would have had to cut it off. Being that tight it was great support for my ankle and didn't feel to bad while I was walking. I go back to the DR tomorrow and look for him to tell me to do whatever the foot will take. Going to do it anyway, the days of being gentle with it are OVER. Coon Hunting has begun AGAIN!

TRAINING TIME
Thanks Mr. Jack and Tommy, its good to be back at it. My trapping luck finally took a turn for the better as I moved them off the river and the swamps to a couple little creeks in the hills yesterday evening and I had one this morning. Brought him home and laid a drag with him wet in the trap and pulled it up in a tree. Went and cut Blade and Pebbles. When Blade smelled it he threw his head in the air and went to high stepping right under the coon and fell treed. Pebbles when she smelled it slammed on the brakes, the hair on her neck and back stood up and she backed off some. I petted Blade up a minute, lowered the trap and slowly pulled it up the trail. It wasn't but a minute and Pebbles decided she hated them almost as much as Blade did. I pulled him up in this tree and petted them up, took a few pictures then snapped them up and took them back to the Kennel. I have a 7 month old Redbone here I'm working for someone so it was her turn next and she did great by herself. Good mouth on that little Red Gyp. Ole Blade hates them as much and as natural as any pup I've seen. He wanted in that cage with that coon and it didn't take any warming up for him. I will wait a month before I show them another then will cut him loose and see if they can put him up. Bam will get to try his luck with this one tonight. been a while since that pup been out and will be glad to hear him running.

Looking good
That's is a pair of good looking hounds Steve. They look like they should be litter mates. The next pup that I decide to keep, I think I'm going to send it over to Bogue Chitto Kennels right after I wean it and I'll pick it up when you get him to treeing his own coon. I figure the way you handle and train a pup I'll be picking it up when it gets about 5 months old. Sure is good to see you back at it Steve. Take care and I'll be talking to you in a few days, after we see what this next rain is going to do.
LITTLE ANN
Thanks MR. Jack. Send me a pup you need to send half a dozen coon with him cause I ain't been that good on trapping them lately. Here is a picture of the little Redbone Pup I'm working for a guy. This was her first coon seen to and she looks like a keeper. Good mouth and don't like them coons anymore than the Blue dogs.
I cut the coon loose at dark and I had told Beverly he looked like a climber and sure enough the first big oak he came to he climbed. I went and got Bam and pointed him that way and unsnapped him. He took off, opened a couple times when he hit the woods then went to cutting and slashing in a hundred yard area looking for him. It took him a couple minutes to come back to the tree the coon climbed but he did and I snapped him up and let him tree a few minutes while I petted him up. He hasn't been out in almost 2 months and he sure didn't want to stop and tree right out the gate but I'm proud he stayed in the area hunting the tree instead of running off 2 months of energy and getting on something that was faster than that coon. We left the coon to run another day and came on back to the house. I've had a long day and needed to get off this foot tonight. DR said for me to be careful the next 6 weeks then after that I can do what I want. Sounded good to me.

STORM COMING
Sunset over the Bogue Chitto River here at the house this evening. Top picture is the calm before the Storm and the other picture is a sign that a Storm is coming. Rough weather moving in late tonight and all day tomorrow. Swamps will be flooded again.

FOOT
Thanks Bill. Foot is ok Tommy. I can't race Mason across the Sandbar yet but every day I can do a little more with less pain. Rain last night and tonight will keep me from hunting but should be back in the swamp Friday night if rain is gone. Bo looked rusty the other night so it will be a couple weeks before he is hitting on all cylinders but its coming. Take Care.

Hunting
The rain they had forecast didn't dump much on us as they expected. Only an inch total so we dodged round two as they were calling it. I haven't hunted anymore because 4 wheeler is broke. I determined it was the starter and I took it off yesterday and carried it to get rebuilt but it was wore out and to thin to hold the new brush plate on so had to toss it. 4 wheeler place wanted 187 bucks for one and said it would take 10 days to get in. I came home and got on Ebay and found a brand new, OEM Starter for 94.04. Free shipping and no taxes and supposed to be here by Friday this week. Shows how much mark up those stores have. Mason and I have been working on a couple tire feeders. Going to get some out this week and have the coons hitting them by time 4 wheeler is fixed so I can get Bam on some Hot Coon Tracks and see if we can get him lined out and back on track. Might try to hunt out of Kubota again tonight but with those turf tires and wet as it is I can't go many places I hunt or I will end up stuck. Might try Haunted House Bottom tonight with Bam and see if we can put one up.

Spring in the South
Nice stories and pictures Steve. Glad to hear that your foot is getting better and you are able to get back out. You sure have a lot of things going on down there with your family the dogs and your sinker business. Hope all is going well.
Take Care,
Scott

SPRING
Thanks Scott. This week the weather has been super nice and I have been busy. I leave the house in the mornings with turkeys gobbling across the river and fish striking in the river, kills me, lol! But got a lot to do and catch up on from being laid up almost two months with the injury to the foot. It will slow down in a couple weeks and I will be able to enjoy some fishing and hunting. Got my new starter on my 4 wheeler the other day and was ridding it and had a axle popping so carried it to the shop Thursday. When I get it back I will hit the swamps hard with BO and Bam. Lots of new trees and logs in the river in my way to run the boat to the spots I hunt so have to break out the Stihl Chainsaw and open up my routes before I attempt a night run in the boat. Hope all is well up your way. Take Care.

STILL NO SIGN OF HEAT CYCLE FOR HER
WHAT KIND OF SNAKE IS IN THE PIC , I DONT GET TO SEE MANY SNAKES UP HERE ??
STORMY
Thanks Terry, that's a little Cotton Mouth Moc. snake. Lots of them around here. Bo has been bit twice the past two summers. They swell up bad but usually back to hunting in a week. Sorry to hear Stormy isn't coming around, she is past due. I have had 4 wheeler trouble and my foot is hurting at the end of a working day so haven't hunted Bam yet. River also full of logs since flood and I have some to cut out of the way before I can hunt out of Jet Boat. $ wheeler supposed to have axle fixed this week so I will be back at it hard with Bam. Bo has a torn pad again so he will be staying in the pen a while longer. Hope Ole Boomer is feeling better and all is good up your way, Take Care.

BOGUE CHITTO BAM BAM
Terry here is an updated picture of Bam. I took it this evening while washing the pens. I love the way he looks and acts and can't wait to get the 4 wheeler back so I can get him cranking. He is a big pup, already bigger than BO who weighs 67lbs. Bam will push 75lbs probably.
