Good talking to you tonight,I don`t remember if i told you Kid picked up another win on the bench saturday.I showed Mae in her first show and she won class and breed.She still needs some work but stood well for me.
I did take kid tonight and it seemed the coon were running over top of each other.Billy,I think Kid knows what is expected from me.I`ve been recasting him after he trees a coon and he is striking another track and getting treed with another coon most of the time.He did get ran back to the truck by a angry coyote,she sure give him a bad time.he isnt used to that.i recasted him from the truck and he went and treed another Coon.so he should know its ok to keep on hunting if it happens again. Billy your pup sure has a nice mouth on her and she sounds like she is going to have a big male voice and she sure can rip them chops off.You`ll have to bring Pearl over for a hunt when you get your female.

That was a good idea you had about bringing Pearl and hunting when I get the pup. I would love to do that. Might even get to hunt with ole Tom Jennings while there. Hounds are doing good.I haven`t been to the woods since before the showdown.I`ve been busy here with yard work and its been a hot few days a cool down is coming.I`m excited about getting my first garmin and i`m sure i`ll be wanting to check it out and get it into action.I know i really catch alot of heck for using the beep beep unit.I belive I bought it in 1994.its still works.
Tom stopped by on his way out and I had to turn him down I just don`t have enough gas to get with it tonight.we changed a fuel pump and filter in the ol truck.still have a couple more things to do tommorow with it.I hope we get it running like new again.
Tom did hunt Kidd at the showdown and won his cast on friday night.he didn`t do any good saturday night,you guys who hunted with Kid thanks for the kind words about him.he is a pretty nice hound. Jay and Ken good talking to you guys tonignt and i`m glad your pups are doing good for you.thanks for keeping me posted .Matt......

I gave a couple female`s to John Plieman and his buddy they are 17 years old and thinking they were going to coon hunt them.well they decided to make them coyote hounds and have did pretty nice with them.they did manage to get one of the coyotes that ran Kid back to the truck the other morning.getting a big female and went back and managed to get three of the pups this sounds like they are off to a good start.I`ve been thinking about turning a few of my young hounds into coyote hounds as the yotes are getting real thick here.I know it seems like it is a growing sport with houndsmen.I can hear coyotes about everynight here by the house. I`have had them run my hounds back to me and be as close as 10 yards from me.thats a pretty bold coyote.this time of year the females seem to be real protective of their young.I know a few of my blueticking buddies up north in Michigan and Wis.seem to really enjoy running them.just something i`ve been kicking around.

Shane,I seen where you called and I just haven`t made the time to call you back.I`ve been coming straight home and back to my mothers house and doing a little work in her basement, its coming around putting carpet down toninght and the trim hopefully.I can`t belive it I have a three day weekend.I`ve been working every saturday since bluetick days. well three in a row thats alot for me.LOL. I`m sure more is on the way.Hounds are getting fat and are looking good.not much going on here.

Elmo,I really like her I haven`t been in the timber to much here lately.I`ve been busy and time just slips away getting up at 5:30 has slowed me down abit with it getting dark late.I did see a coon cross the road around 8:45 tonight.I`ll try and take the camera with me tonight.I`ll tell you being the only son and a favorite uncle keeps me busy not to mention papa to 6 so its a busy time for me.I`m not complaning and the kids they have me spoiled.LOL check this thread in the mrning and I may have a few pictures.take care.

You know it Bacon hangin.These two can get after it the right way .Sunni`s mouth is bigger and she is a good strike dog.both are on my favorite list of females.

I`ve always liked mixing old Uchtman it seems to work well.these crosses seem to be well balanced in every department.My Old Hank and his littermates were top notch cooners and came from a similar cross.it is well known that Smokey River and old Uchtman works well.thats whats in your and my hounds.I really appraiciate Philip Whitley for giving Tree Daddy a chance and giving Sunni to me.I`m here to tell you she has a good nose and can push a track.on the last coon they made a lose on him and Sunni found where it came out and put on a good tree Job.I really don`t like running the hounds in the heat but after I got started I hung in their with them.Elmo if you where any more are bred up like Eli let them know I will show Sunni and if they like what they hear and see they can breed to the ol boy.I know he is throwing the right kind.Thanks.

Matt, you have to tell me your secret. How in the world do you train those woodlot coons to climb those little trees instead of that big tree I see in behind those dogs? You & that Jennings outlaw have got it going on! LOL I'm still trying to get my counterfeits to just bark up a tree, let alone a tree with a coon up it! Best of luck with your females! Blackjack and Roxy dog

Hi Matt

Wanted to let you know that Roxy and Blackjack are tough hounds and stick tight on bear. Today was out first day of training this year. Blackjack was on his way to the vet at 7 am. Basically about an hour into the hunt, things got real tight. I have video of Blackjack baying the bear with Roxy and others. The vet says he should be alright, his belly was ripped open, stuff hanging out....etc. It was a big bear, 450 lbs est. He chewed on every dog. He tree and then came out. From that point on it was a rumble in the jungle. Anyways, the dogs are working good and hope to hear from you soon. What do you have on the ground these days?

Vic,the first thing is hunt where Outlaw Tom don`t .LOL I actually honey holed them my top secret spot plenty of dumb wood lot,cow pasture electric fence and paths thurout the woods.perfect for young hounds.gotta have a few of them quick spots.

Blackjack is laid up for the next two weeks, first visit back to Vet went well. He is on his way to a good recovery. As a matter of fact, he struck a track on the way home from the vet. Not being able to hunt him for the next two weeks is because of the staples in his belly. He thinks he is ready to go back in the bear woods.

Bayed up another big bear yesterday morning (Monday). The bear really had an attitude. I was in there with the dogs all the while the bear was bayed. I think it was the same bear that hurt blackjack.

Roxie seems a little more agile than blackjack. She quickly gets out of the way when the bear rushes in. One of the Walkers (Buster) after closer examination, had bear hair caught between its teeth and punctures. Judging by Roxies attitude and abilities, I think you and Dennis have a good program.

I spoke to Jason the other day and plan to visit him and check out his Hoss hound sometime this week. He is only 40 minutes from my place.

I`m glad Blackjack is doing good in his recovery,we`ll see if he has some brains to stay back a little next time.Roxie sounds like she is the right kind and quick.I met Dennis around 95 or so and he has high standards in his hounds he uses for breeding and hunting thats why we are have success today. Our hounds seem to cross up good with each other.I hope your visit with Jason turns out to be good for you.I`m glad your doing your homework and trying to find the best cross to add to your pack of bear hounds.I`m sure theirs more good ones that I don`t know about in your neck of the woods.good luck in your search.

I don`t know if I would want to be in their that close to a mad bear thats more than twice my size.good luck and be safe .

Thanks for the call last night.good to hear your hounds treed another bear.sounds like your hounds are off to a good training season.Don has 5-6 females in heat and he`s been thinking about some Blue Boy II crosses,he has a male out of Stinger and Lou that has all the tools and mabe Mike`s Slew Foot.I know the cross with Cookie and Stinger sure was a good one.at least he has some good one`s to choose from in his back backyard.good luck.Mike we can`t wait to see the pictures when you get time.

I treed another bear here this morning, the hounds are sure running good this year! Slew, diamond, pepper and drifter made this young bear climb after an hour and a half race. It's been real hot and humid here also, this was the first morning I felt I could run since returning from wisconsin. Looking forward to you and penny visiting this weekend, we should beable to get a bear or two treed while your here, Mike
