Headed Home

Well Mike is headed home now. He was at Rolla, MO just a few minutes ago so he is almost half way back to the hoosier state. We had a great time and alot of visiting was accomplished. There was some good interest in Dizzy even with the bad weather and low turn out at the hunt. I think he booked 6 more females to breed to Diz.

If anyone is looking for some pups get ahold of Darryl Trammel. He has 2 litters off of Fiddler and one off of Thunder. All nice looking pups. They are goin to breed Thunder to Big STar this week and this is a proven super cross.

We finally are getting the rain we have needed for sooooo long. It has rained for almost 3 days here now. Just a slow steady rain. So the hunting and tracking conditions will be greatly improved thats for sure. Gonna work on Huggy Bear all week by himself. I bet he will be ready for a whole week of good hunting.

HOBO he bred her to Toby. I was talkin to him as they were bein born. lol....started around 9:00am and finished around noon i think.

Hey Boone junkies!!! Whats goin on? Is everyone gettin snow like we are? Good lord will it ever warm up for good.

Talked to Mike yesterday a couple of times and he is breeding Thunder to Big Star next week. I am gonna get a gyp pup off of the cross. This has been a great cross in the past and this is only the 3rd time it has been made. This is the actual cross I was wanting a pup out of when I got Huggy Bear, but Mike bred Star back to Fiddler. For those of you that dont know, Hi Ball is off of Fiddler x Star. She has thrown some super nice pups off both dogs. They are all lookers with good mouths. Guys Thunder is 13 now and ya better get one off of him before its too late. I LOVE HIS PUPS!

How well do these Dohoneys pups usually start. I have a 14 mo. old male with Lobo in his 2nd gen. & Boone in his 3rd on the Bott. side. Just trying to get an idea of how far along he should be now. Derek

I have had them start very early, the pups i usually get I start at around 8 months but they were running and treeing before that when running loose, I just put them up for a while for them to mature. I usually have to put them up at around 4 and a half to 5 months old. I would say every pup is a lil different though. I do start hauling them on or around their 8 month B-day. Hope this helps.

We havent had her in one in almost a month....she tried to come in heat and ended up with a uteral infection. We have been dosing her with pretty strong antibiotics and are trying to clear it up. She still needs her 1st to finish Nitech. I am goin to hunt her by herself for a couple of weeks when I get done with the medication on her. She needs to be hunted in some water. She balls up, I guess all that scent blows her mind lol.

I've seen pups from this line start as early as 5 months old and as late as 13 months old. Alot of it depends on what you do with them at a young age.I've also seen several tree the first night in the woods with other dogs. Usually these pups have been messed with a caged coon some and short drags. One thing that just about all of them like to do is get split treed and have the meat. I've also seen a few from this line NEVER make it.

What is your young hound doing now?

I've just been hunting him since Nov. He'll run track & tree some with another dog. He hates coon. He's started a few tracks by himself, but seems a little unsure around the tree. But, here lately it seems like he wants to do a lot more running & playing when you take him hunting. I had to take him off a chain & put him in a pen (because he kept getting loose) & I attribute that to a lot of the energy. I guess to me it just seems like he's regressed a little, & I was hoping for more progress. I know some lines are naturally slower starters, but this is the 1st Dohoney's bred dog I've owned that I can remember. Just trying for a little input. Thanks. Derek

i have a couple grand pups out of him now one is 2 and one 5 y/o s/s and permance registered bred one to a cruise gyp and bred one to a elvis gyp hope the cross works out for us here

Hey Boone junkies whats goin on? Not much here but we are about finished with our kennel. We poured a 16' x 30' slab and are workin on the framing for the sheet metal now. It will be enclosed on the north, east and west ends with the south end open. The back of the pens will be against the south end of the slab and the gate end of the pens will be enclosed behind a locked door with the 6' walkway. We are also fixing a flap on the bottom side of the north wall so we can open it for ventilation and air flow during the hot months. I ll add some pics of it in a day or two to let ya check out the progress.

How is everyone doin? Dang wind has blown all week 50mph +, had wind advisaries all week. Cant get no hunting in that way for sure.
