BLUETICK DAYS
Thanks Scott and Congrats to all the Cast Winners at Bluetick Days especially Mr. Jack Smith , Jeremy and Smoke with their first place and high score on Friday night. And Congrats to Mr. Jack on the Awards he was presented yesterday. Very Deserving for a Great Guy. Thanks to Eddie, Darren and ALL the others for putting on a nice hunt and for the great food on Thursday Night. Don't know who did the Crawfish but they did an Outstanding Job Boiling them, they were Great!! I didn't hunt Bo Friday or Saturday. Friday I stayed in with Beverly and Mason because he was so tired but determined to go and I knew he would cry if I left him and yesterday after we packed up our Sinker Cypress and things into our Cargo Trailer my right big toe went to hurting bad in the joint and I knew what was coming, Gout. Sometimes Shellfish will kick it in and I think those Crawfish set off the flare up. We went to the cabin and I took a nap hoping when I got up it would have passed and just been a false alarm but it was worse so we headed home. Got in about 11 last night and this morning I'm hopping and in some pretty good pain and taking my medicine for Gout. It will last 2 days or so and go away as fast as it set in. We still had a good time I just wish more folks could have made it but I know of several that Graduations across the country and school not quite out for some prevented them from making the trip. And I know others read some of us Southern Boys threads and see these thickets down here and think, " I'm not hunting in that mess. " But its not like that around Batesville. All cast I have been on Winter Classic and this trip the woods are nice compared to the stuff I hunt in. Good Coon population too. The best part of the trip was having guys come up introducing themselves and talking hounds. Met some great people and enjoyed talking to everyone. Also winning that cast and having Mason there to get his picture took with Bo means more to this man than most could understand. This boy rode with us almost 3 years ago to pick up Bo as a 7 week old pup from Mr. Phil's and helped his Paw Paw with the trapping and turning coons loose and filling a few bucket feeders to get this Hound started. Mason was the REASON I got back into Coon Hunting and was perfect he was there when Bo got his cast win so he could be in the picture with his hound.

Steve
Sure sorry that you didn't get to hunt Saturday night. Hope that foot is better by now and you are back in the woods soon. Congratulations on your and Bo's win Thursday Night.
Foot
Thanks Mr. Jack. I am Couch Bound for now. Toe has a big knot off the side where the joint is and its very painful. Most times its bad for two days then goes away so hoping today is the last day of bad. I have a lot to do and catch up on and the weather couldn't be better but it will all have to wait another day or so. I talked to a guy last night that has 300 acres on the Tickfaw River a couple miles from where my parents live out in Amite County, about 35 minutes from here. They have a bunch of feeders for the deer they manage year round and he said he has dozens of coons eating up their deer feed and he wants them gone. I told him I would take care of his problem so as soon as I can get this foot in a boot I'm taking Bo and Bam out there and seeing how many we can tree. If you want to go one night and bring a young hound that needs some coon just give me a holler and we will go tree a few.

Congratulation to you and Bo, Steve. Sounds like yall had a really good night. Donald and I really enjoyed our conversation with you. Why didn’t you say something about Mason’s rock? I would have bought the whole basket.

MASON'S ROCKS
Mason had his Tinkler Rocks in a basket held by a Coon on the table. I had told him as people came by looking at the stuff for him to get up and stand by his rocks and try to sell them and I would help him BUT, if folks came by just talking dogs for him not to bother them. He did just as instructed and I'm proud of him. I told him if folks are shopping try to sell them something but if they are visiting to leave them alone. Had a lot of folks come by and we told them about his rocks for 50 cents each and he told them if they bought 2 and rattled them around in their pocket it sounds like silver coins and people would think your rich, lol. But his sales pitch didn't work and he didn't sell one rock to a shopping Coon Hunter. The Ghost Shopper bought a few and my Brother came down Saturday to pick up his table I built him and he bought 10 dollars worth so Mason was happy. I don't think if I would of had a Grand Daughter there selling Girl Scout Cookies she would have done any better. People just weren't buying anything and when we packed it up early Saturday I had 2 other vendors come by and say they would have left to except they were hunting several dogs so they just soon stay set up. They hadn't sold much either. I thought there would have been more folks there with their wives and kids but I guess school still going on in most places kept a lot of those away. It was a learning experience and I know one thing for sure, I can get in this River in the dead of Winter pulling logs, sawing logs into lumber and stacking it to dry then build things out of the lumber but none of that is near as hard as setting around trying to peddle the product. I can't stand to just sit around and doing that turned a nice trip into a pain for me. Enjoyed talking to folks but the sitting around is a killer. I won't be doing it again. I told Beverly I'm a worker, not a Salesman.

I never got much of a chance to come by and just visit and get anything. i'm sorry I didn't make more of an effort to come over. I could see your stuff from the podium but never made it by. do you have a website with your stuff on it for sale? if so I could look online and maybe find something to purchase from you. this event kept me busy working and not getting to visit much but I was sure proud of the folks that came.
congrats on your win!

POEM
MORE THAN A CAST WIN
As the Old Man's Heart Melted and dripped out his eyes,
The few that noticed might wonder why the Old Man cries.
Look past his eyes and deep within his Soul,
You will see a story of 3 loves unfold.
It begins 5 years ago when the old man was a heavy Drinker,
Then his Little Buddy came along and made him a deep Thinker.
He thought that he needed to quit drinking and live a better life,
So on July 4th, 2011, he did just that with the support of his Wife.
It wasn't easy but to this day he has stayed as Dry as the Desert Sand,
For almost 5 years now he has been proud of this New Man.
As he watched his Grandson grow for another couple years,
Something was still missing and one day it became crystal clear.
The Old Man was a Coonhunter many, many years ago,
So he decided to buy a Bluetick Pup and call him BO.
Mason and BO grew up together and loved to swim in the Bogue Chitto River,
Soon Bo started treeing coons and had a Huge Bawling Locate with a Quiver.
The Old Man, Mason and BO made a lot of memories and treed a Lot of Coon,
Hunting in Black Branch Swamp under the light of the Moon.
God sent Mason into the Old Mans life just when he needed Saving the Most,
If he would have continued on his drinking path he would probably now just be a Ghost.
So, One Bond, One Love was Born between the Old Man and his Little Buddy,
The Second Love was Born when they drove to Arkansas to pick up their Bluetick Puppy.
As for the 3rd Love it comes from the Heart of a Great Girl,
Who Loves The Old Man, Mason and BO that make up Her World.
Understanding and Supportive in all they do and in Everyway,
They Love her More each and every Day.
All this was going through the Old Mans mind as they got their winning picture took,
No one could understand the story of the 3 Loves with just a quick look.
But at That Moment This Old Mans Heart Melted and Dripped out MY EYES,
So the few that noticed and wondered, Now you know the reason why I CRIED.

Thanks for sharing!
That's a great poem and very touching story! Congrats on the win with Bo. Sorry the sales were no good. I wish I could've been there. At least you tried it and now know for next time....you can just go and have some fun.
I will get down there this winter for a hunt. Work is usually slower and our winters can be harsh so hanging on the river would be a great get away.

Being a Vendor
Thanks Eddie for All you did planning and putting on this hunt. The ones that didn't come really missed out on a good time. No, I don't have a website and I know you were a very busy man trying to make sure everything went great and it did. I know how being a Vendor or in business works, You have a product people want or need and at a price they are comfortable paying then you will sell things. Only thing I was disappointed in was the 5 year old trying to make him a buck and learn how life works: You put forth an effort you should get paid or a reward. Us grown ups know life isn't always fair or work that way all the time but teaching a youngster a good work ethic and having a good time at the same time might end up ensuring that the kid don't end up being 30 years old living in his parents basement weighing 450 pounds and drawing a check off the Government which is us, The Taxpayer. I have walked by a Lot of Vendors in my life and didn't buy anything because I didn't need it or didn't like what they had. That's the way it goes. BUT, I have never walked by a kid selling something and not bought something, even if I didn't need it or I tossed it in a pothole when I got outside. Our Youth ARE the Future and if we don't want them growing up with their hand out looking for something for nothing like a LOT of the young generation is doing NOW then I feel we better support their ventures when they are young to encourage them. I feel that is better than giving them all trophies when they didn't win just so they feel like a winner. Make them do something to earn something, even if its just picking up Tinkler Rocks and Driftwood on the River. That was Mason's to sell and his little money to keep just wish he would have had a customer. Again, Great Hunt and I know yaw worked hard planning and putting on this hunt. I think a lot more people would have came if school would have been out. I know its hard trying to plan the perfect date for a hunt like this and trying to have it before the weather gets screaming hot here in the South but if school would have been out I feel you would have had twice as many show up if not more. Take Care.
Thanks Jeremy, Hope all is well up your way and hope you can make a trip down South this winter. You welcome here anytime and stay as long as yaw like. If I could talk Mr. Jack into a Road Trip to visit Dave Dean then we might could swing up your way for a short visit. I planted that Road Trip Idea in his mind the other day and threw out some more names of folks we would visit with and I could tell he really liked it until Jeremy said, " Yaw would have to be gone a MONTH to do all that! " Lol! Mr. Jack is like me, he don't mind a road trip but being gone for a month is to long. There is NO PLACE LIKE HOME.

COOL
I ordered these 2 Cold Rolled Steel Old Tattered Flags off the internet from New Mexico almost a month ago and they finally came in today. I had them cut our Kennel Name, " BOGUE CHITTO BLUES " in them. I will mount them to the top rail on my dog box on each side like they are blowing in the wind as we travel down the highway to the next hunt. Mason says you are never to Old to Look Cool, I have to Agree.

Flags
Steve, your always coming up with some neat stuff. I call it neat, Mason calls it cool, so we will just go with cool. Those flags are really "COOL". Steve that was quite a poem you wrote. I really enjoyed it. I've known you for quite some time and I know the poem hit close to the guy that wrote it. Take care.
Steve
On your post on the other's thread. There's a piece standing on the small table in the 1st picture. That piece or the one in the center of the big table!Like the looks of those two pieces! Thanks,Danny G.

CENTER PIECE DRIFTWOOD
Danny the table to the left and the piece of driftwood that's on it was sold Saturday to my Brother. The piece on the center table is the only piece that wasn't for sale, we keep it in the house on a table. The table to the right that has the piece with the long base and is standing up, Mason will sell you that piece of River Recovered Driftwood that has 2 coats of Lacquer on it for 25 bucks plus shipping. And he said he will throw in a piece of Bogue Chitto River Petrafied Wood with it.
Thanks Mr. Jack. Give me a shout when you get ready to make a round. I'm going to the new place on the Tickfaw River tonight. My toe is better, still hurts some but I got dogs that need fur in their mouth so I'm a going.

PEBBLES and BLADE TREED
Pebbles and Blade treed on a turnout this morning. I had to help them a little as they kept going over the river bank and into the river looking for him and I saw him up this Cypress Tree. I got their attention on the tree and you can see Pebbles stretching and smelling as high as she can. They both treed a little, not hard but its a good start. They are Both ready to get started and I will cut one more coon loose for them at night then it will be a few feeder bucket coons then hopefully it will be off to the races to see who can tree one first. Both have real good mouths and hoping they get better as they get madder at these mean Ole Coons.
JD I will probably be over there tomorrow night. I will give you a call tomorrow evening and let you know for sure.

HUGE CYPRESS
Went out to Amite County and that new place on the Tickfaw River but it didn't work out. It was to close to the main Highway, about 300yds if that and I told the guy Thanks But No Thanks. I'm not cutting my Hounds within a half mile of any road that is busy. So Bo, Bam and I came back to the Bogue Chitto River Swamps and treed a few. Took them to Haunted House Bottom and Bam struck first and moved it out good but Bo went the other way so I knew it wasn't right. Bam slammed the tree and treed hard about a minute then quit it. Possum I bet. He went on deeper and struck again and came treed on a huge oak but if he had him I couldn't get him to look. Bo was treed by then so I sent Bam deeper and headed to Bo. He was treed in a swamp bog up a Tupelo Gum and had the Coon. Petted him up and cut him from the tree. He got in another 400yds or so and struck and ended up treed on this Huge Cypress with Huge Vines going up into it and I found 2 Coon. Could have been several family of coons living in this tree, it was Huge. I rounded Bam up and we made our way over a mile back to the 4 wheeler and headed home.

What I'm lookin for is a center piece to put on the dining room table! Maybe you have 3 or 4 pieces i could cut and make a nice piece. Something that the colors would match up and I could make some cuts on the pieces and make my own! Something I could add my own taste! Kinda like something that could be made tall when connected together!get the pic!! Danny G.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Everybody have a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend! Don't forget the ones who have paid the ultimate price for Our Freedom. To the ones who have served and are serving our Country, THANK YOU! I took this picture this evening as the sun was setting over the River and I didn't notice at the time but the white out image in the Flag looks like a Soldier with his Helmet on to me. I have took a lot of pictures of the flag with the River in the background and Never had an image on one. I guess its like Clouds, you look at them long enough you can see what you want to see but the Image in this Flag is Our Soldier with his Helmet on Protecting US. That's what I see.
Did some fishing today and they were biting great. Caught a bunch and had a fish fry around the bonfire this evening then went Coon Hunting. The neighbor and his 2 boys went to and brought their new hound. We didn't have a great hunt but had fun and Bo ended up deep treed on a big pine on the edge of a Briar Thicket with tons of Berries. Bam was still trailing out in them and I got him caught up as it was late. Big day fishing with Mason tomorrow and hope we catch a lot more.
Danny, Mason and I will look through all our driftwood and see what we can come up with for you. I will send you pictures of the ones I think you might like.
Mark I buy my Crawfish from a guy just across the State line and last sack I bought was 1.29 a pound. That's Select, Clean, Big Crawfish. But wholesale you would have to get on down in Cajun Country a little deeper to get them straight from the Crawfishermen or who they sale to.

GOOD TIMES
Setting around the fire yesterday evening eating fresh Catfish and waiting to go Coon Hunting. Don't get much better than that in my opinion. I sure enjoyed taking a break from trying to get everything caught up around here and just setting back fishing. I had built two new benches around our Bonfire Area this week. One 8' and one 4'. I concreted them 2' deep so when it floods I'm not having to tie them off or worry they will float off. The other picture is Bo as I'm about to put the NO BARK COLLAR on him. He is always quite in the Kennel until someone shows up about dark then he's ready to go hunting and when I have company I'm not listening to a hound making racket. I don't even turn the Collar on but he Always makes this Grimace Face when I come in his pen with it. He has the look that says, " OH CRAP, was I being to LOUD AGAIN?!! "

Thanks for more great pics along the river. You're right about the flag looking like it has a soldier on it. Great image. Hope you & your family have a great weekend & nice weather to be outdoors. Also, hope you & Mason have a great day fishing on the river.
Congrats again on placing BO last week in Batesville. Take care, Ron.
