Slim...
Hey Richard...from what I hear...we've got about 3 years to get him figured out and finished before his leg of the journey kicks in...I think...
Right now...he's got more to worry about than finding himself a girlfriend...he's still working on figuring out a cold track He's got the goods but he has a stubborn streak too...independent I think some folks call it...I've always had a different name for it but...for now...we'll go with independent...eh?
Dave picked up a Nite Ch. win on Yank last night. There were two casts and he came in with 350+. He took I think 50- or it could have been a little bit better of a score. The other cast came in with 250+ so he got the win. Dave said Yank didn't much care for the company he was with and didn't hunt real good but he came up with two coons alone so got enough of a score to win. Dave said there were two Walker dogs in the cast that were HIGH POWERED to say the least but it just wasn't their night...it was Yank's night.
Hey Kyle...great job on that young female...that's a good start with her. It's always fun to see them get a cast win early on like that, kind of makes it a little easier to keep throwing your entry in the pot...eh?

Tom, I know all about that "independance". I have been calling it hardheaded and just plain stupid! Tell Dave he only has about 6 months to get Yank finished. You've got one "waiting on the sidelines". I heard on a TV program today that the Colts were looking at drafting a top college quarterback. They were going to have to pay him millions just to sit on the sideline for a couple of years until Payton decided to retire. Apparantly they thought that it was worth it. They figured that if the new guy just practiced with Payton for a couple of years, he would be ready when Payton started slowing down.
last lions of the year
We got a bit of snow so I loaded the mutts and headed out about 1am about 1:30 I had 3 lions waking down the road right to the truck.I sat till daylight when a few buddies came by so I invited them along and we dumped the boxes we had a fun day getting all three in one tree.they went 3miles on the garmin .It was a good way to end the season.I then went coon huntin and made 3 trees with 4 coons. It was a good day.

Fun days and nights
Hey Mark...those pictures are great...it looks like it was a great way to end the season for lions. Being able to do that and still go out and tree coons the next night is what most folks can only dream about.
My Grandson Cruz and I hit the woods again last night and although we didn't have anywhere near that kind of excitement, we did get a little training done...
Cruz and Gun...
Cruz and Slim
Slim...
Gun...
The mean machine...and Cruz...
Cruz and I went for a short walk last night with just Slim and Gun. It really didn't amount to much until near the end when they were both opening around one area but not really knowing what to do. We walked in closer and could see them winding around a big den tree so we just waited and pretty soon they sat down and started treeing. I don't know if the coon was inside or not but it didn't really matter, I know it's a good den and they zeroed in on it and treed on it.
This was Gun's first night in the woods and he did real good. He hunted our maybe 100-150 yards and stayed with Slim and stuck with what ever they could smell. There wasn't any second guessing, he was willing to tree on the tree that smelled of coon scent so it's going to be fun seeing him get on top of a good track with Yank...I'm guessing it's going to be something to see.
Cruz is a good hunting partner, he walks and keeps up and busts the brush like a veteran. He gets right in on top the dogs and is starting to act and sound like a dog man...so to speak
It started raining and then lightning and thundering by the time we got home and we just beat the rain as we got the dogs back in the kennel so...it was a good night all around...eh?

Tom, might want to watch the ball joints on that Ranger. I took the one up here out yesterday and treed a lion and on the way back to the ranch the ball joint broke. Guess it happened once earlier this winter too. We put a board between the track assembly and used a ratchet tie down strap to pull them tight against the board and were able to limp it back to the shop. Just something to check from time to time.

Gun
Tom I loved the picture of Gun. I have another one here for you with a big mouth out of Ace that is going to be like Gun and he is real dark too with that great Ace disposition ( Young Dagger's Ghost ). Dave
I believe Gun Looks a lot like his Sire: T-Top Show-Time Coon Stopper ( Ace )
Gun
You're right Dave...they do look alike.
We'll hopefully get him out again this coming weekend and see how he does with the big dogs.

Big tree...
Good thing you guys didn't have to shoot a coon out of that big old monarch of a tree....it would have taken two trips to town for shells if he got all the way up in the top of that one...eh?
You and the dogs look great Buck...that's a nice picture to keep and look back on some day.

The walking stick is from my buddy Dave. The vest James Attwell put my name on the front and his store on the back and gave it to me.

Oh my goodness!! That Buck is a real Pro. Just look at him all geared up. He even has sponsors and his own photographer to follow him around now. Tom do you see what you have created? Linkous are you and Bond taking notes?
Pictures
Hey Richard...I'll have to say that Buck has been in a couple of good pictures that I liked a lot...this one by that big ol' tree...
And there was another one where he was out in front of that cabin holding Moose on the lead...I liked that one a lot too...but I can't find it...
Anyway, when you're got it all goin' on and you're a for real coon hound hunter and lead a real nice Red dog...life is good!

Classic
Yes sir...that's the one. I had it saved...I thought...and then I couldn't find it. I won't lose it again...those kinds of pictures are classics.
Sometimes...when you look at a picture like that, it's as if it's timeless where you can't really see the era it came from...but it reflects everything we like and feel related to hunting these dogs...it kind of lets you drift away to another time and place or maybe a memory from the past...good stuff.

Moose
That Moose is one good looking dog!!!! That picture by the cabin makes him shine must have been right after his bath. LOL
Tom
If that hunting buggy won't get you there, then you don't really need to be there. LOL
I had something sort of like that I got to ride around in while I was in Afghan but mine had a 50. Cal mounted on the top. LOL
I especially like the cardboard wind Jammer behind the seat. LOL
Moose
I heard from Pastor Mike and Buck this afternoon and it looks like Mike got win # 3 towards Grand Show Champion on Moose this afternoon. I think he's got a pretty good string of wins going now since he first showed him in the open class. He also got a BOS female with Frawg Dawg so he had a pretty good afternoon already.
Congratulations to Buck and Pastor Mike on a real good run with Moose.
Hey Mat...I see you noticed my little invention...eh? The wind and snow was piling into the backs of our necks when out riding so I had to do something...it worked pretty good I'm probably going to put the back set of wheels on and the front wheels on again for the summer...those tracks dig the ground hard and I don't want to wear out the drive lugs before I really need to use them. All I should have to do is remove the tracks and tie rods and the wheels should match right up with the hubs again...I don't need the front set of duals on the back...I can navigate with just the two back wheels and leave the hubs covered like I have them now. I think a .50 cal is a little much for coon hunting but probably just what the doctor ordered for the work you were doing...
I was just upstairs and it was snowing and raining and sleeting and just about everything else that could fall from the sky...all at one time...gotta love Wisconsin in the spring...

COOL
That's one of the better shots of cats leaving a tree...usually it's a pile of snow flying and cameras pointing all over the place and then.... there they are...gone....
Great video, that's about as good as it gets for anyone who wants to get a sense for how it is around a tree...good stuff.

Training day
We had a half way decent day today but still colder than it should be and very windy. We had a few youngsters come over to help with some training and they brought their young, grade Walker male and we had a pretty good session.
We have 3 young Red males left who still need a little work so today we decided to just let them and the young Walker figure it out on their own...it worked out pretty good...I was pleased with the results for sure.
This is Jasper, Deacon and Fuzz
This is the whole crew including the grade Walker male...he did OK...
Deacon and company...
Jasper and company...
These pups did a nice job today and Deacon has moved up and will get this kind of training one more time and he's done.
Fuzz and Jasper are litter mate males and will go to their new homes in another couple of weeks or so...both are pretty much ready to go.
Deacon is by way of
Nt. Ch. PR T-Top Northwood's Yankee
and
Dual Gr. Ch. Soggy Bottom T-Top Shadow
Jasper and Fuzz are by way of
Nt. Ch. PR T-Top Northwood's Yankee
and
Dual Gr. Ch. PR Hill Top T-Top Shelly
All these pups are from half brother/half sister crosses. Even though they are from different females, their pedigrees are exactly the same because their mothers were full sisters out of different litters.
It's kind of fun to be able to mess with these youngsters at this time of the year because they will be ready for full blown coon hunting by the time another fall rolls around...and it should be fun to watch how they do.
