Mason
Congrats on going on your 1st night hunt. Hope that don't make you not want to go on another one. I guarantee you will get older & bigger to make it easier to keep up.
Steve, I've been down the road with younger kids/grand kids wanting to tag along on a night hunt. Now that Mason knows that things are a lot different on casts, he will probably be a lot more willing to just pleasure hunt with you untill he gets older. Just let him enjoy his 'little' years with you pleasure hunting. If he does know what BO sounds like just take him to a youth hunt & the pace of the cast will be a lot slower for kids in his age catagory. Good luck down the road to you both. Take care. Ron.

SMILING BOB
Left this morning before 4am going to Jasper, Alabama to get Bob. Got there about 9:30 and visited with Jason for about 10 minutes then turned her around and headed home. Bob and I took a swim as soon as we got home on the River and I swear he was so happy to be out of that dog box and swimming in the Bogue Chitto River that he was Smiling. Was gonna call him Buckshot Bob but after seeing him Smile he reminded me of that commercial years and years ago with Ole Smiling Bob in it! I know some of yaw know the commercial I'm talking about! This is an 11 month old pup that's half brother to my BO. Mr. Ed and I going to win the World with him one day!
Thanks Ron. Mason and I will do plenty hunting here on the River. He get big enough to keep up he will probably be after something other than Coons! They grow up to fast for sure. Take Care.

Man Steve I wish I knew you were getting him. I went to Jasper Thursday night and picked up a pup from Johnny and came home Friday morning. I would have saved you a trip.

If thats the same young dog that Johnny Brown had Friday morning, it's a good thing I didn't have cash in my pocket, because he might be here in Louisiana with me. Beautiful rascale.

BOB
Thanks Tommy but the drive wasn't that bad. Jason Meyers had this pup. He is off Bocephus and Mr. Ed Mauneys fine Bobbie Gyp. She is off Boomer and Salin Sadie. So hes bred the best, looks great to me and has a huge bawl mouth. Jason has him already treeing his on easy coon so all I have to do is put the time in him in the woods and give him a few he deserves and he should come right along. Hard, all night hunting starts tonight. Bam a drop then Bob a drop then Bo and Blade or Bo and Pebbles a drop. That's how its gonna be for a while. I got to many but I am unemployed so I have all night if I can hold up. I will thin down come fall after I see just what I got and the only way to do that is HUNT, HUNT, HUNT.

Bob
I'd like to go swimming with Bob ! Man that river just looks nice and cool .Steve you have paradise at your footsteps. It's 96 here today and bone dry.
Another nice looking hound. Good luck
SMILING BOB
BOB SURE REMINDS ME OF HIS HALF BROTHER 'BIG COUNTRY' IN THAT PICTURE. THEY ARE COLORED UP ABOUT THE SAME AND BUILT FOR SPEED. I HOPE YOU END UP LIKING HIM AS MUCH AS I DO MINE. BOB DEFINITELY HAS SOME OF THE HEAVY HITTERS BEHIND HIM IN THAT PEDIGREE. LOOKING FORWARD TO READING ABOUT SOME OF BOB'S HUNTS AND HOW HE PROGRESSES FOR YOU. HOPE EVERYTHING IS GOING GOOD FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. LOOKS LIKE YOU AND MASON BEEN HAVING SOME FUN. IF YOU EVER MAKE BACK UP THIS WAY, BE SURE AND LOOK ME UP. TAKE CARE!
BOB
Thanks Tommy, gcblues and Donnie. That was the first thing I thought of to when I pulled up and saw Bob was that he looked and was built so much like your Big Country hound Donnie. His mouth will remind you of him too, BIG! Can't wait to start hunting him and that will be either Saturday morning early or Saturday night. I'm getting him used to riding on the 4 wheeler right now so he don't bail on me going down the road to the hunting spot at night. He loves the water so no problem there for the swamp. I'm planning a trip this Fall back to Illinois and if I get a chance I might be able to come back through yaws way and make a hunt. Hope your having some good hunting up your way, Take Care.
gcblues, its Hot here to. Around 90 degree heat index at 9pm when I cut loose to go. Going to wait until about 11pm to start tonight. Ever couple of degrees drop in temps makes a big difference and the humidity drops some too. Hope all is good over your way, Take Care.

BEING BLIND and BLACKBERRIES
Wednesday night hunted in Black Branch Swamp and BO had to go deep to find a Coon. It is HOT here now and Moon is up and Bright early so they aren't moving early. I had a 564yd walk to get to him in the No Mans Land of the Swamp and I got to Hot myself. We made it home eventually and that was all she wrote for Wednesday night. Last night took Bam to Bo's Bottom and same story. Coon not moving yet but Dillars were and we had a school lesson. The lock picture is because I forgot my reading glasses and for the life of me could not make out the numbers to get in the gate so I took a picture and zoomed it up to see what number on what line I was at and that did the trick. Before yaw start thinking how smart I am remember I'm not telling of the 10 dumb things I did yesterday, lol! The Blackberries on the Briar show yaw how thick they are this year. We are having a bumper crop which is great for the Coon. The kittens should be out and about before long. I usually start seeing some in July but most in August. 3 drop on Bam last night and not one tree. We supposed to have a little break in the heat tomorrow so maybe things will change for the better.

Not Blind< just cant see
Steve, I know what you are talking about. If I don't have my glasses I cant even see whats going on on my Garmin. I forgot them a couple of times and had to turn around and go back and get them. After a few times doing this. I went to the drug store and bought me a pair of those cheap reading glasses and I keep them on my 4-wheeler. They don't work real great, but they will get you out of a bind. How is hunting Steve. Man it has been hot and humid aint it. I seen you had you a new dog. That's a good lookin hound. Have you had him out yet.
BOB
Thanks Mr. Jack, no I haven't had him out yet but tonight is the night. Took them swimming this evening and boy he likes this River as much as the rest of the pack. I was going to the hunt in Franklinton but decided against it. BO got to hot on that cast win in Batesville because he was treed for so long and since then after he trees about 10 minutes he really starts running out of gas quick. I really noticed it at the hunt in Bogue Chitto the other night after that first tree. I have cut back a little more on his feed and swimming them more and when he treed the other night he was more back to himself but still not quite what he should be. When he split 30' from the other hound in that Batesville hunt but we had to walk way up the road and score the other tree then walk back and score his he had got bad hot then he got treed 3/4 mile deep and it took us a while to get to him. I don't like this hot weather and my hounds safety is my number one concern so just pleasure hunting each one a drop a night until we get some relief. Past few nights the coon don't seem to be moving early but Smiling Bob and I gonna give it a try tonight. He has a fine mouth on him that's for sure. Told Beverly I hate to admit it but he sounds better than BO to me and that's the truth. Hope by the Fall he's clicking along pretty good getting them treed for me. I didn't need another hound but when one likes this comes along you just HAVE to MAKE ROOM!! Lol!! Give me a shout sometime and lets make a round and plan our trip to Mr. Ed's this Fall. Take Care.

BO and PEBBLES
Rain set in last night at dark so I put off hunting until 3:30am this morning. Collared BO up and cut him loose in yard while I collared up PEBBLES for her first real hunting trip. BO always does his business and loads up on 4 wheeler but this morning he took off up river to a Cornfield and struck over 600yds and ran a hot track and treed near the road. I rode up close to him, looked at the coon, loaded him up and went to Haunted House Bottom. Cut them and Pebbles went every step BO did. Garmin showed him moving at 7 mph and he struck at .81 miles and Pebbles opened a few times and BO treed at .87 miles. Pebbles was at tree when I got there. It was in a privet hedge jungle and couldn't shine good enough to find him so we came on home. I have so many young ones I had about decided to sell Pebbles but her being my only female and bred the way she is I decided I needed to at least give her the chance she deserves. After what I seen this morning if I can get her with BO on some hot tracks like Cornfield races she is gonna take off I believe. She glides like a Big Cat or Deer over the ground, most agile hound I ever saw. I knew if she went that BO wouldn't be able to shake her and he didn't. Gonna keep putting her in the woods. Don't think it will take long for her to get going. She has on red collar that says Bob. BO is the Blue line under her red. The picture of the Garmin screen they were over 3/4 mile in under 10 minutes. She can fly.

BOB and BAM
Smiling Bob on the 4 wheeler and Bam under the Full Moon last night. Tommy last night was just the second time I have had Bob out and nothing to brag on yet. He started a couple tracks one in the mud flats of the swamp and another in a Beaver Pond and even though on both tracks he located up a few times he never settled and treed. He is getting used to me, the 4 wheeler and the swamps so I'm not looking for great things just yet out of this 11 month old pup. Time will tell what we got but I feel he's gonna be a good one I just got put the time in. After Bob had almost two hours of hunting I dropped him at the house and loaded Bam and went to Black Branch Swamp. He got on a track and moved it out steady for several hundred yards but ended up baying under the base of a leaning Beech Tree. Most likely a Possum. This pup is gonna be something else if I could get him on Coon a little more often and get a few more down to him. Its coming I know but it gets trying at times. Might take the boat down the river tonight and see if we can't sneak up on some that hadn't been run in a while. Took Bo night before last. Had Kade Turnage his Paw Paw and a friend of his, Trey, come hunt with me and they brought the pup off Bo and Stormy I had give him and two more hounds. One was a nice Bluetick gyp they called Honey and she backed BO on two coons that we looked at and she sounded good. Good night of hunting for a Full Moon night. Tonight I will take Bob with BO for a round and see if BO can show him a few things then I will take BO and Pebbles then Bam. I'm trying to give each one about an hour and a half to two hours of hunting. It has been nice the past few nights but starting today the Heat is supposed to get back to 95 or hotter so gonna be tough again.

STILL HANGING IN THERE
Tommy I'm still kicking just been busy and haven't took the time to type my stories. None have been much to brag about but we getting our exercise. I have a lot of Sinker Cypress Logs that I need to Sawmill but I needed shop space for air drying so I have been unstacking the lumber that has been air drying for years and removing the spacers between each layer of boards and restacking board on board and rearranging it all. I have about 12,000 board feet to do. I have done about 4,000 so far. and I have been hunting around 3 or 4am each morning. Picture of BO and BOB from this morning just before we headed home. They trailed one out of the swamp into a cutover of briars and late berries and got him up and running. What a race, those two big mouth hounds sounded good even with the heavy air from the rain we had last night. We getting more this evening and I'm glad to see it. Helps break the heat and will make sure the Muscadines finish out nice for the Coons to feast on next month. Of all the Summer heat I love it when they after those ripe Muscadines next month. That's when we will start treeing those little ones pretty regular and you can make a pup like BOB and BAM a Coonhound. I saw yaws video of Deets the pup. That little dude was all about finding that coon and was hunting his butt off. He's a KEEPER for SURE!! Congrats again on Case and Rhett winning Friday night. Looking forward to hunting with him one of these days. Take Care.

I got an idea in my head about building a coffee table out of sinker. After I get it all figured out, I would like to buy some from you if possible. That might even give me a reason to ride up you way and make a hunt.

Hope everything is going good. I think everyone has started to get into Summer mode with all of the things going on. It looks like you sure have a nice string of dogs and should have some nice ones for years to come.
Take Care,
Scott

PULLING LOGS and HUNTING DOGS
This is a Sinker Cypress I winched out of the River today here at the House. It lived for over 500 years and then has been buried in the River for over 100 more. Gonna be some Beautiful Lumber come out of this one. Tommy just let me know when your coming and I will grill us something for supper and we will go over to the Shop and you can look over all that I have and I bet you will find the Sinker your looking for. Might even swap you 2 Culls and the Wood for that Deets Pup, lol! Take Care.
Scott all is good down here and hoping its the same up your way. Hunting every morning or night and moving some lumber around and winching more logs. Getting ready to fire up the Sawmill for a Month of cutting and stacking. Got to get it cut and stacked so it can be drying while the Heat is ON. Cool weather can't come quick enough, Take Care.

Steve
You sure have been mighty quite over there as far as hunting goes. I'm guessing you are doing more working right now than coonhunting, how are those young dogs doing. I been hunting some, but not nearly enough. We will have to get togeather before to long and see if Bo and Tramp can still tree one. Hope you are having a good 4th of July weekend.
WORKING and HUNTING
Mr. Jack I haven't hunted the past 3 nights but before that I was hitting it pretty hard but nothing to brag about so I been quite, lol! Been hunting in the early morning hours and coon are stirring good but running like crazy. Bo ended up across the river once at daylight and I got Beverly to go get him in truck while Bob and I walked the mile back through the swamps to the 4 wheeler. Didn't hunt the past few nights because of all the people on the river and in the neighbor hood for the 4th of July weekend. To much could happen so I've just swam them and played with Levi and Mason and ate homemade Ice Cream and Watermelon and a little Bar-B-Q. Been Very Hot and usually at 9pm the heat index is still in the low to mid 90's. Wish Cool weather was getting close but Summer just got started. Farmers Almanac said we would have below average temps this Summer, They are sure wrong this year. I will be back in the woods tonight about 10 with Bo and Pebbles and then take Bob for a drop or two. Back at the Shop tomorrow moving lumber around. I will give you a shout this week and we will get together. Happy 4th of July to you and Everyone. God Bless America and our Troops.
