Another sad day today ... GR CH NITE CHAMPION RANSOM'S BAM passed away at vet today at 5:15pm. To what seems to have been a twisted stomach. ..

With passing of Roofus and now Bam we maybe making some serious changes soon. .. We hope to hunt Blu in the Hunts this spring if time allows us maybe Sue as well. I truly feel both have it in them to win. We are looking for the right Stud to head our kennel. But we may already have him his name is Blu. .. We have made some contact's into some idea's just playing out our options right now. If you think you have a Stud to fit our needs feel free to contact us. He must be houndy with a nose and accurate and be able to reproduce the same. ... Our goal is to take yesteryears hounds forward. ..

WV 2013 black bear harvest 2nd highest on record

West Virginia Hunters Harvest 2,682 Black Bears in 2013
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. � West Virginia hunters harvested 2,682 black bears during the combined 2013 archery and firearms seasons, according to Paul Johansen, assistant chief in charge of game management for the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. The preliminary harvest data for the combined 2013 seasons were nearly identical to the 2012 harvest of 2,691 bears. The black bear harvest of 2013 marks the fourth time in the past five years that the harvest has topped 2,000 and is the second highest harvest on record.

�As always, mast conditions had a tremendous influence on the distribution of this year�s bear harvest,� said Johansen. �The 2013 Mast Survey and Hunting Outlook documented the lowest statewide oak index in the survey�s history. However, oak mast was present in localized areas and was reported as most common in the higher elevations of the eastern mountains. An abundant beech and hickory crop statewide allowed the index for all hard mast to fall just 16 percent below the 42-year average.

�Decreased mast conditions statewide allowed archers to pattern bears effectively and led to an increased archery harvest. Decreased mast conditions also led to a decline in the December firearms season harvest. The combined effects of firearms hunting with or without hounds in September and October and the concurrent bear and deer hunting seasons in 29 counties helped offset the decline in harvest during the December season.�

Hunters took 851 bears during the 2013 archery season. The top five counties were Wyoming (75), Fayette (61), Raleigh (58), Logan (52) and Randolph (52).

Firearms hunters harvested 1,831 bears during 2013. Hunters took 679 bears in September and October, 361 during the concurrent buck/bear season, and 791 during the traditional December season. The top five counties were Randolph (245), Pendleton (201), Greenbrier (151), Webster (134) and Pocahontas (131).

Jr. I talked to Mr.Cortez about a week ago. He needs a dog with a real nose and I may not have one in my kennel. We talked for a while and them cougars can lay a hard track for a hound to track. If I were you I would finish Ol Blue out in the hunts and then stud him out. You already know his bloodline has got coonhounds in him. I guess the way the weather man talked today we are fixen to get some of your weather here tomorrow. It probably won"t last long. Them coon has been giving them chcken farmers the blues guess we gonna have to help out some next week.

I am hoping to make a cross soon that will fit Mr. Cortez wants. The cold nose tracking machinces will be in the blood. I havent had a hound out since my last hunt in VA. I dont hunt through deer firearm season. Weather as been rough but bottom I guess i have been to lazy to ... lol.. I plan on putting Ol Blu in the hunts soon. I got the estimate on my truck today $1387.40 . The body shop ordered the parts they are gonna paint everything before I take it in for repair if all works out rigjt I should be able get it back the same day. The weather is gonna stay here for at least the next 10 days. Gotta love coons in the chickens if your a hunter that is but not much love for the farmer. How are your pups doing? Keep in touch, Jr

We will hunting Blu in the Hunts this year. We will also be campaigning him once he is titled. We are changing his name in honor of his Sire. We do have a planned cross on him I will post more information on that once it happens. He will be our future stud. He isn't perfect but he is consistent.
