SMILING BOB

Video of Bob and Bo from last night treed in Black Branch Swamp. Bob is 12 months old and Bo's half Brother. They share the Same Birthday, June 26th, just two years apart. Bob has a Lot going for him and I feel will develop into a top Cooner over the next 12 months of his life. They sounded good last night running and treeing together.

Looking good

And sounding good too. Nice big bawl on Bob, but I prefer that hard chop on Bo. Take care, Ron.

BAM

Thanks Ron. Bo is Bawl on tree a lot to but on a hot Coon sometimes he will Chop some but not much. I love either, Chop or Bawl but I prefer a Bawl Mouth all the way.

Took Bam to BO's Bottom and he went in 400yds and got struck on a good track and moved it out of the swamp into the hills and down into a deep Ravine. He has ran this Coon several times before and the Coon has went through a Culvert under the road almost a mile to the west but not tonight! Bam put the heat on and he climbed. Big Boar. I knew the way it ran it was probably a Boar and it was. Proud of my young hound. He is turning the corner the past couple weeks and really improved on getting gone and deep to strike a Coon and when he trees he has him. Yaw should see how Proud he is of himself when I'm petting him and telling him Good Bam. Looks like he's walking on hot coals he steps so high with that head and tail held high. He has been special since a real young pup and is really coming into his on now. I get a few more down on him as the Summer winds down he should really be a nice Cooner by Cool Weather. I have to many to hunt the way they need it come cool weather but its just perfect for this hot weather. Each one gets a couple nights a week and that's plenty for as young as they are and as hot as it is. Just enough to keep them steered in the right direction.

RAIN RAIN

Thanks Mr. Jack, Scott and Tommy. I like Bam. Good level headed hound that gets on out there and gets something going. He has really took off lately getting deep to strike a track. Good steady clean tree dog so far. He's the first one about dark to bawl out a few times letting me know he's ready to go. Lot of Desire in this young hound. Tried to upload the Video to Photobucket to put on here but it won't go right now so will try later. We have been getting rain the past couple days in the evening until way after dark and I haven't got to hunt and we been getting it again this evening a lot. River is up some and hoping it will quit so I can take the Boat downriver tonight.

BOB

With the rain we have been getting the river was up a foot so I took advantage of the extra water and Bob and I set sail in the boat last night headed downriver. I saw Deer, Rabbits. Possum, Beaver, Otter and a Gator but No Coons. The picture I took of the Gator as we motored by is blurry but you can see his head going to my left. We don't have a lot of them but there are a few. This is the first one I have seen in years. His tail will be on the grill if he hangs around much. Bob struck a decent track and moved it out then fell treed but didn't stick. He went back to working the area but never treed again. Could have been a Sow with some Little Ones and he kept crossing tracks. I went upriver from the house a couple miles hoping to shine a coon and cut him on a hot track but no luck so we came on home as I thought I was starting a job today but its raining this morning already so that will be delayed until tomorrow.

Sign's From GOD

This past week I've been pretty busy and as you can see from the pictures I took, so has GOD. He has been showing off around here this week with some incredible colors in the sky. I keep waiting on Him to come Charging down from the Sky on His White Horse named Cloud and Slay all of His Enemies. I know I shouldn't Judge but if He came Now there would sure be a lot more room to Coon Hunt without running into to many folks. This Country is Lost and has become a Cesspool of SIN. Hard not to get depressed seeing the things going on today and the amount of people that support it, half the Country. I always felt I should have been born during the Indian and Mountain Man times. I still have a lot of Living to do but on the other hand looking at the way this Country has changed I feel I have lived to long already.

I started a job installing some of my Cypress and Sinker Cypress this past week. I had already pre cut and Urethane some of it so when I showed up I was rocking and rolling. I built an 8' Bar with Cabinets and a Sinker Cypress top with Double Live Edge. I should finish end of this week and get back to hunting hard again. It's tough to throw down on a job in this heat all day and have much left to follow the Hounds at night. Years ago I could but the energy escapes me these days. I have hunted a few nights and BO got to Hot one night and wasn't sounding right on tree and I knew what was wrong. I got to him and just hooked him up and took off the quarter mile to the creek to cool him off. He seems ok but I will wait a little on hunting him again. Muscadines are ripe and the Coons are in them. Hoping to hit the Swamp with Bam and Bob Tuesday night.

SINKER CYPRESS WORK

This is the Project I have been working on. I still have a cabinet to build on the end of Island Bar that will house a Beverage Cooler on wheels and also a Sinker Cypress Screen Door. Hoping to finish up Friday evening. The dark trim and counter tops and Bar Top is Sinker Cypress. The red orange boards are Cypress. The difference is 200 years, the Sinker fell off the bank into the River 200 or more years ago. The Cypress just fell in the past few years. That's why the color difference. I was going to hunt tonight but its almost dark and heat index is still 101 degrees. I ain't getting off the couch. Get done with this job I can go back to hunting mornings.

Great Pictures Steve

As always I love getting caught up on the Boque Chitto Blues post. Great pictures and I look forward to seeing the artwork with the sinker cypress that you do. You should be proud of the finished products from all of your hard work.
Take Care,
Scott

SINKER PROJECT

I will put the last coat of Urethane on the Bar Top's in the morning and will be finished with this nice Project and back to Coon Hunting Hard. I built the tall Cabinet with Bar Top last week and they came Saturday and rolled the Keg Master 2 Beverage Cooler through the double cabinet doors and drilled a hole in the top for the Tap. They still have the handles to put on the Tap but other than that they are set to have a party. I put 2 vents on each side and hope that gives the cooler enough air flow so inside cabinet don't get to hot. We have had Rain every evening and supposed to get a lot more this week. I'm not complaining, rather see it muddy in August than bone dry. Haven't hunted much because of the rain and work but starting tonight I will be back at it. I have another job to do building shutters out of my Sinker Cypress and Casing in Round Columns with Sinker Cypress. Start that in September and after that job I have a Dr. friend that has a Cabin overlooking the River and he has Lots he wants me to do. Like 6 months worth of building an outdoor kitchen, deck, putting down flooring, cypress on walls, ect. Looks like I will be busy as I want to be and his job is only 20 minutes from my house, love that.

Scott, thanks for the kind words and your right I do take a lot of pride in putting this beautiful wood to use and seeing the enjoyment my customers get from the finished project. Should have been doing this all my life. Hope all is well up your way and that the pups are doing good, Take Care.

Tommy I will try to come but not promising. I haven't been hitting it hard the past two weeks but plan on going tonight. If Bo looks good this week and I don't have Mason Saturday night then I just might show up and give it a go. Your young hounds sure have been doing good sounds like. I love to see good looking, great sounding young hounds getting it done. Take Care.

Steve

Great looking work there, man. Good to see you putting that 'old' wood into beautiful projects. A lot of old barns & other old farm buildings in my area are being torn down & the boards are being 'recycled' into lots of useful furniture.

Hope you can find time to get back in the woods & keep the stories & pics coming. Take care, Ron.

RAIN and the RIVER

Thanks Guys. Ron they tear down the old buildings around here for the lumber too. Guess it's nice that the old wood lives on in another project but its sad to see the fine old buildings go.

Ron my cell number is 601-730-4505, my house is 601-730-1747. I will text my number to your number also.

We have had rain, rain and more rain. I haven't got back in the woods yet. Over 3" last night and today and still pouring out there. Supposed to get 8" by Sunday. River up a few feet and rising so we on River watch also in case we have to get out. Sleepy and Mr. Don Morgan came by this evening and visited a while and Sleepy left with Blade. Even being unemployed and with more hunting time I had to many Young ones that needed to be in the woods and especially males so I had to make a tough choice. He will make a nice hound I feel sure and he's in good hands. Hope he makes Sleepy proud. I will be glad to get back in the woods as setting on this couch surfing Ebay or Facebook has got old Quick. Hounds are missing out on treeing those kittens in the Muscadines. Pebbles treed a squirrel yesterday while running loose. She's prime to get going on those coon. I will start casting her on some feeders by herself soon. Terry said Stormy isn't big so don't know for sure if she will have some Boomer pups or not. Maybe just a small litter. Hoping she at least has a few for him. That's about all I have to talk about. Boring around here with all this rain and no hunting.

Flooding

Thanks Tommy and Praying for yaw. We haven't had it as bad as south and west of us. Amite to Baton Rogue and all around is awful. Be Careful.

BAM

Well the rain has stopped and the river is going down. We didn't flood and I was proud of that but also praying for the ones that did. Around Baton Rogue is just awful. They still rescuing people.
Took Bam for a round tonight and went to Bo's Bottom but the trail is washed out from the rain and its a gully across it 10' deep so no way to ride in there on 4 wheeler so I went to Haunted House Bottom. Bam struck pretty quick and moved out fast opening just right and came treed after 400 yds of trailing. He was treeing good and I got in there and the coon looked one time but moved on me and I never found him again. Bam really looking good on track the past few times and if he does it right like tonight I'm gonna put the coons on him. He's making a nice Cooner and now that I'm back at it he's gonna get 4 nights or more every week. Time to get to pushing myself and these hounds. Hopefully the worst of the summer heat is behind us and cooler weather coming soon. Going to the hills with Bo tomorrow night. Give the swamp a couple more days to drain out.

ROCKET THE RACOON

We got after Rocket tonight in Black Branch Swamp. Just as I pulled up to the spot I was going to cut Bo and Bob loose they blew up on back of 4 wheeler. I cut them and they left there screaming on a red hot track. For over 500yds they poured it to him in that flooded swamp then locked the tree down Hard. They were on a Big Bushy Oak and I hooked them back, one on each side of tree. I could only shine almost straight up but with my Chatterbox I got him to look through a bunch of limbs and leaves. I popped off a few rounds and heard one strike home and when it did he went to moving to the trunk of the tree and I swear his eyes were 6" wide. I knew then it was Ole Rocket and we weren't 200yds from where Bo treed him that night in the Magnolia when he jumped out on Bam's head. He started down this oak fast and I had a clear shot and pulled the trigger, CLICK! Out of Bullets! Then he Jumped and off he went. I got Bo unhooked first then Bob. Bo caught him when he took to a Beaver Pond but the Battle didn't last long and Rocket was off running in the flooded thickets again. He went through the Hog wire 3 times and the 3rd time was a dead leaning tree on top of wire and he had went up and over there but Bo and Bob couldn't find a hole to get through so hung up. I got there and Bo was bleeding bad out his mouth so instead of tossing them over the wire I hooked them up and we made our way out of the Swamp and Home. The Legend of Rocket The Racoon lives On.......

BLEEDING BO

Poor Ole Bo looking rough this morning. Muzzle all scarred up and mouth still dripping blood all over his deck and pen from his Battle last night with Rocket in the Beaver Pond of Black Branch Swamp. I Doctored on him some and fed him soft food so as not to get the bleeding going any worse. I will give him a couple nights off to heal up and give one of the Young'uns a shot at Ole Rocket.

SAW MILLING SINKER CYPRESS

Been very busy the past 7 days Saw Milling Sinker Cypress. Picture of one of the Pecky Sinker Cypress Boards that shows the Beautiful Grain in this Lumber. I hunted Bam once and Bob a couple times but mostly it's been about trying to get done with Sawing and Stacking this lumber so it can air dry for next years Projects. Mr. Jack I been using my 4 wheeler trailer with the tailgate off to haul all this so haven't called you to get together on a hunt because my trailer is tied up but should be done by Tuesday I hope. I love the Saw Milling the logs into this beautiful Lumber but the Stacking is a Killer. Kind of like hauling hay back in the day. I never did mind walking along in the field picking up the bales and stacking on the trailer but when we backed into the Barn to unload and stack that was the Killer back in the Day.

SINKER CYPRESS MANTLE

Stacked lumber and cut a couple more Sinker Logs today. Cut Mantel's from one of them that are as fine as I have ever seen. This one is 8' long 4" thick and 22" wide. The live edge on the front face is grooved up by the swift water of the Bogue Chitto River running over the Log for many many years. A true one of a kind River Treasure.
