For Those Interested

Haze is getting ready to be a Super Stakes Sire. He will be paid up for this session, so anyone who has bred to him since March and until August 31st, the litters will be eligible to be in the super stake program.

I know of 3 litters getting ready to be on the ground and I just got another female in today to be bred this week.

So, if you have a nice female and you have folks wanting some SS/performance pups, here is a good opportunity to get some into their hands.

I have a 6 mos old Haze pup that treed his first coon at night. He looked awfully good on it. I sure do wish that he was S/S.

I wish i could have done S/S back then too but just couldn't get it done until now. Maybe the next time, if buck decides to breed sally again to Haze.

Anyway, everything is on it's way to PKC.

Missy

When Missy was young she was a nice hound. Would not take any crap off of a mean dog male or female. I was not hunting the hunt's when she was at the top of her game. Missy got to sit in the pen a lot as she got older. That is about the time I started hitting the hunt's with Dixie. The haze and Missy cross worked out very good. Pastor Mike and I Got 1/2 of Phipps Dark Timber Hope " Haze X Missy pup" you will see NITECH PHIPPS DARK TIMBER HOPE by summer's end. Hope is a get in the dark, no come back, get treed, loud tree dawg. Small female with a big female attitude. I like her and that help's...lol.

Hey Steve.....Don should be getting Hope registered PKC. I talked to PKC today and they are waiting on Haze's DNA which they said would take 4-6 weeks to confirm. They sent it out on the 17th so it should be back no later than 4 more weeks. I sent in his UKC DNA profile and I guess they are getting it checked out.

They said that the females that are currently bred to Haze or ones that have already had their pups during this session (May 1 - Oct.31), need to go ahead and get those females registered because any of those are eligible to be super staked.

I will give you a call later on Steve.

So, if you are planning on breeding to Haze from now until August 31st, get that good female registered in PKC, it's a very easy process, and you can have some super staked pups as well.

We had a decent hunt on Thursday and Lucky is slowly making me think about leaving Bruiser in the pen. She will get a dump by herself tonight. I'm going find her a nice blackberry patch and watch her do her stuff.

I'm going to have to talk to Rick about that name, I keep wanting to call her April...that's a good sign. Lucky operates a lot like April at that age. She doesn't care about anything else in the woods and has the "go" to boot.

Lucky made her first tree by herself last night. We've hunted her 3 nights in a row, and I'm going to try and keep that streak going as long as I can.

Kenny has started calling her April 2 - it's a good sign. She puts out 3 or 4 beautiful long balls as her locate.

I don't know if my Haze pups are going to hunt hard enough for me. I took 2 of them last night. They are 7 mos old. They only went .9 mi (1,600 yds) across 2 ridges before they turned around and circled back. You had better really like coon hunting if you are going to get a Haze pup. My Garmin said that they traveled 3.9 miles.

Super Stakes eligibility lasts for 3 years now. Any pups that are bred this month will be able to be hunted as 3 yr olds in the Spring of 2014. It is a "win your cast only and advance" format and the hunt is held when the leaves are still off. Haze pups should do well. They start early, so they should be finished hounds at 3 yrs old and they should be accurate and independant.

To answer a few questions.

I've heard a few folks have wondered why I'm not hunting Haze at Autumn Oaks.......well.......it's just not that big of a deal to me, I don't hunt to become famous or for my dog to become famous....nuff said.

I will not SS Haze anymore (he is a SS sire until the end of August)........pretty much a waste of $$$ for no interest in it. I could have bought a lot of dog food for what it cost to do SS.

As much as I know folks want to hear that he is perfect......he's not, but he trees coons. I know folks want to hear that all of his pups are going to make it......well.....I guess folks will be disappointed because I know that not all will make it and I will not tell you that they will.

So, if you are interested in breeding to an imperfect stud, Haze is right here, if you want to breed to a male that IS NOT superstaked, Haze is right here, if you want to breed to a stud that DOES NOT have a 100% success rate for his pups, Haze is right here.

Dr. Laster, being a stud dog owner/promoter takes a certain personality. It is like being a door to door salesman. You must be able to take a lot of rejection and negativity. Even if you have the best product out there some people are going to find fault with it. It is the American way. What do you mean Haze is not perfect? He has a beautful bawl mouth, a great locate and is an excellant tree dog. He has a great disposition and does not ever get in any trouble. He hunts great. He has an excellant cold nose and knows how to move a track whether it is cold or hot. He gets treed quick and doesn't bawl around setting up a tree even on a cold track. Where is he not perfect? Deep down in our hearts we all know that all of the pups in a litter are not going to be great coon dogs. But that does not mean that we don't "want" them all to be great. We also don't want anyone to "burst our bubble" by telling us that they are not all going to be great. My goodness, let us dream. If a female raises 6 pups and 3 of them turn out to be good coon dogs, that is 50%. That is about as perfect as you can get. Surely you know that all Redbone people are dreamers. We have never won a UKC World Championship, but that doesn't mean that we are not dreaming and making preparations for our dog to do it "this" year. I know that L's T-Top Dark Timber Tom Tom is going to win the World in 2014. Don't take our dream away from us. Just tell us that Haze is perfect and all of his pups will make coon dogs if we breed a good female to him. We know that it is not so but we still want to hear it.

Bumping this back up to the top to do a little bragging on my Haze pup.

14 months old this month and really starting to show a lot of promise. Trailed a track off a slick tree friday night and ended up with the coon. Moved the track good and located several times on the tree but did not stick with it, an older dog came in and backed him and they had the coon.

Saturday night struck a cold track by himself and trailed about 20 minutes, 400plus yards and treed. This time he stayed treed about 5 tp 10 minutes but quit before I could get to him. I shined the trees in the area where he was at but could not find anything, big hardwood timber.

He still has a ways to go but is showing a lot of potential for his age and the fact that he has only been hunted less than 10 times and has had only one coon shot down on him and that was last winter when he was 7 months old.

He is out of the Haze and Abby cross that seems to be doing really well from the reports Mike and Adam are giving on it.
