Dagger was trying to tear the trap up. I ran to the trap and pulled the coon up and he treed over 100 a minute on the coon. I lead him away and back to the house. The rest is up to you. These Ace pup tree easy. Dagger is doubled up both sides on the old Rat dog. He may have it all as he is a looker too. Ace/Douke cross ( Brother to Elli Mae,Kate,General, and Bubba )

Dagger's Ghost

I'm looking forward to getting Dagger up here Dave, he's a good looker and I'm thinking he'll go through the program pretty quick. We're still about a month away from seeing kitten coons come down but after that, we'll have some fun with these young dogs...it should be fun.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how those nice young pups out of Ace start coming on around the country...it's exciting to know that some good young blood is right around the corner.

The leaves have blown up around here and the woods are filling up to where it's hard to see anything. It seems like just a week ago when there was hardly any leaves on the trees yet but a couple of days of near normal temperatures and they really came to life. It makes it hard to find the coons at night but it sure makes the country side look alive again.

Dave has put Griz in the woods a couple of times now and he's getting some coons treed...we'll have him hardened up pretty quick. We're supposed to get rain again on the weekend so we'll see if we can get out and about to hunt the youngsters...we're gonna try.

Dagger's Ghost

I sure do like the looks of this pup. Those black highlights sure remind me of a pretty good female I used to follow....

I would say that you guys will have a blast with this young one this fall.

Dagger

Yes sir...it reminds me a lot of some other dogs also. Old Rat used to have those black highlights but he sure wasn't as good looking as this youngster. I remember when Shadow was a pup...she was real dark and had that same kind of dark cast to her coat...maybe it's an omen of things to come...eh?

You tell Mom Happy Birthday from me and Dave. It's a great attitude to have about someone who cares for us all our lives, for as long as they're here to do it. We should all wish we could had have the time to try and give back even a fraction of what they have given to us...eh?

Happy Birthday to Dave's Mom!

Glad to see everyone's doing well on this post! Thought I'd throw a little update on Rocky up for ya'll! Rock picked up his first and is just shy of his NITECH. Two more passes in the woods and he'll pick up his HTX2 also. Doing his grand dad rabble proud! We're making a run to the PA State tomorrow night, so hopefully I'll have a good report for you Tom. Dagger's looking real good btw! Hope to hear from you guys soon hope everyone is well! Happy Hunting boys!

Corey

Rock

Hey Corey, it sounds like you're well on the way to getting that nice hound finished...it's a real nice accomplishment and I'm real happy for you on how you kept at it the way you have. Once it's done, you'll be able to appreciate what goes into making a dog and that's something that will stay with you the rest of your life.

Enjoy the ride Corey...these are good days.

Update

Dave has been putting Griz in the woods this last week, a couple of times by himself and 2-3 times with Yank. Yank will put pressure on a dog because he doesn't much like to cover anymore so he'll find a track away if there's any possibility to do so. We like to see how Griz will handle that kind of pressure once he's hunted down and early reports indicate that he's handling it real well and showing Dave some coons every night in the woods.

We'll have some pictures pretty quick but for now, Griz is coming along real good and will see some competition soon enough...

That's a pretty nice set of antlers Carl...I didn't think there could be another one like you got last fall but it looks like there's something still out there to keep you interested...eh?

Dogs look good, you must have gotten out between the storms last night.

NT CH Frickens's Greatful Dead Red has a new home

Hi Tom, I just wanted to let you know that I now own Red. I am going to tune him up and try to finish him out to dual grand. Thanks John Dell 905-834-3222

Posted by topdog on 05-25-2011 01:00 PM:

Red

Hey John, that's great. Red is put together pretty well John, he's one of the few males around that can produce an all Grand Nite 3 generation pedigree if he finishes out.

I don't know a lot about him but I've heard that he's an independant hound with pretty good tools and considering that he's just a 3 year old dog, his best days may yet be ahead of him.

I wish you the best with him and hope that he helps to keep you in dogs for a long time to come.

He is a litter mate to Deuce, I know that much but not much about the rest. There was a time not too long ago that we were thinking about trying to get him ourselves but...you snooze...you lose...plain and simple.

Fickens Greatful Dead Red

Hey John where is Red located now? When i was hunting him he was a very nice hound.

Griz

Dave got Griz out again last night and made a couple of drops. We haven't put any pictures up yet so I figured I'd get at least one on here so folks can at least see he's doing his job. There will be more to come but for now, it's just hard work to see what he's made of...so far...we like him pretty good...Tim has a good foundation built under him so along with some good tools, he's also real nice handling hound and a pretty easy keeper.

We'll put some pressure on him a few nights by hunting a young dog or two with him and see how he takes it. Once he's able to stand up to that, he'll go into action on a regular basis and we'll see where he ends up.

Griz...on the wood.

Tom, that is a nice picture of him, but Dave must have clicked that one as soon as he hit the wood. There doesn't appear to be any bark missing. lol He usually only wants to tree in one spot on the tree, right where the scent goes up the wood. I am really thrilled that someone is willing to take the dog to his potential, as I have never been able to put in the time needed.

Red, is now located near Buffalo New York, (In Ontario just across the boarder) I am not planning on going to American Days although I would like to. I think I will be at at National Days. I am going to have Red's semen collected by Dean Bitzel in Wabash Indiana. Thanks John

A good friend of mine tried also but they did not want to sell him at that time. Good luck with him. I hope that you go ahead and make him a Gr Nt Ch.
