Had a good time at the Bunkhouse Hunt, hunted with some really nice Turk pups and seen several others, a lot of talk about the Turk pups that were there. Our group brought back 18 coon and won the most coon part. Really enjoyed the company and had a great time..........Tim

Young females at the Bunkhouse

Johnny Yoder hunted his Sally female (GR NT Turk x GR NT Kit), Roy Clifton hunted his Robbin female (GR NT Turk x CH NT CH Lou) and Brian Hutchinson hunted Smurf (GR NT CH Turk x GR CH NT CH Glo 911)Larry Heschki also hunted his Dual Grand Sara (Turk x Noodles). The one thing that was said about all of these females was that they were real tree dogs that could get treed quick and stay treed and be reasonably accurate. The untitled females will be hunted in the hunts next year, they range from 10 mos to two yrs old and came from MO, KS, WI and Iowa. I will talk about the males that were there later.......Tim

Turk males at the Bunkhouse

Damon Ferrell had NT CH Rowdy (GR NT TURK and Big Timber Kate), NT CH Ranger ( GR NT Turk and NT CH GR CH Brooks Mia pachie) CH NT CH Smoke (GR NT CH Turk and Noodles) and Bill Kaeneal with Max (GR NT CH Turk and Hillbilly Millie). All of these males are real tree dogs and are still being talked about. These males came from MO, Ks and WI............Tim

Talked to Roy Clifton today, he said Smoke and Robbin sure missed all of the coon over this way. They hunted last night and only treed 2 singles. Roy, I know where there are a couple of farms for sale in this area............Tim

Early Winter ...

We are in a winter storm warning right now ... 3" of fresh snow on the ground, ... another 3 to 5 by tomorrow ... Below zero temps next week ... man this sucks!

Winter

Even though we don't have many coon where I live I'd rather deal with that than with the snow and bad temps.
This week I'm still working 10 hour shifts so I can't get in the timber till 7:30 and all we are getting are cold tracks and lay-up coon. About 11:30 they seam to start moving and I can get one good track and get it treed befor I have to go home
Been hard on the pups but the old dogs are making it work. Only treeing 2 or three befor midnight.
Talked to Robbie Brooks and he said they were getting 6 inches of snow last night. He told me that up untill deer season shut them down they had treed over 75 coon since season opened. Not bad for half a season.

Roy ...

This has been the most disapointing hide season for me in 45+ years. Not because of the dogs ... the dogs have been doing a nice job when I am able to get them out ... but because of deer hunting and the weather turning early, I just havent been able to get out half as much as usual. Not good for our young dogs, but very little I can do to ward off old man winter.

Just had some young gentlemen stop by to look at pups, they were here about this time last year and bought a puppy sired by Turk and out of Pearl(daughter of Pop a Top). They said that she is running and treeing her own coon and has been for quite a while. They bought another Turk pup today and are looking forward to starting him when he is ready..........Tim

Hunt

Troy Young just called me on his way home after hunting with Jeff Grant. Troy had Rose (GR CH NT CH) and Jeff had his pup sired by Turk and out of his LuLu female. This was the pups 3rd time in the woods and he went all of the way with Rose, opened on track and blew the top out of the tree. Had a big ole Boar and Jeff is really fired up, wants to go every night this week.......Tim

Talked to Duane wood today about his young dogs sired by turk. He has been hunting his young male out of GR NT Kit x GR NT John II quite a bit this season and he is really looking good and should be ready for the hunts this spring. His pups out of his NT CH Jill female are really looking good, they are getting on the wood like old dogs and should be ready for the hunts late spring or early summer. Eastern Kansas is turning Blue

Danny Ferris and Timmy and I went to Paul and Tims last night for a hunt. We split up with Danny going with Tim and Doug Lynn and Timmy and I went with Paul.
Paul was hunting Big Boy and we took a young female out of Gr Nt Joker X and a female out of my Rooster II dog. First dump the dogs got in a little over 800 yds. befor they opened with Big Boy grabbing a tree and the young female fell treed with him. When we shined the tree I thought we had treed a white house cat and found it to be a white coon. He had about three partial dark rings on his tail and a little silver across his back and no mask. We got it out and have some pictures on the cell phone and if I can figure out how to post them I will try.
Next dump they went through a section without openning. Next dump the got in about 500 yrds and opened and treed within 400 yrds of the other road, had the coon. Before we quit we looked at 2 more coon and headed back in around 1:00. Man can that Big Boy dog cover some ground, I liked him alot, and he is a tree dog.

Danny said that with Tim they hunted Ranger and Froggie. They treed I think he said 4 coon and Danny said that the Ranger dog is all coondog. He also said that Froggie looked super good and was really blowing the top out of those treess.
Danny ended up getting two pups off of Tim ( GrNt Turk X a Pop a Top female).
Timmy and I got a female off of Paul (GrNt Joker X Crystal) that we really like. Man can she move a track and is an every breath tree dog.

Hunt

On the hunt with Danny Ferris the other night I let him shoot out the coon with MY RIFLE, he had no problems and stated that that gun shoots real good. Shot out 3 coon with just a few CB s because someone shot up all of the long rifles that I had in the truck. I guess you have to be a better shot in Kansas because the coon are a lot smaller than those way up north HA HA ..........Tim

I am sorry for not making it to the Battle of the Breeds, I felt that it was important that I stay close to home since my Mother was back in the hospital. It was a good thing that I stayed home, Mom had her 4 boys with her at the end, now she is with Dad in a better place, we love you Mom and you will be greatly missed by many............Tim
