Yes it would Mr. Ed. Hopefully somebody will come along and just have to have it. Won't be cheap but if they are looking for a one of a kind Mantel that's a conversation piece then this is it. Trying to get all this cut and stacked so when the weather starts cooling off I can concentrate on more important stuff like Coon Hunting!

Saw Milling

Thanks Tommy. I finished yesterday evening cutting and stacking. I still have a few huge Sinker Logs at shop to cut into wide slabs but not in a hurry to do it. It's back to hunting now just wish the cool weather would show up, its hot here. Hope you are recovering from the flooding and getting things back to normal around your home, Take Care.

Hunting

Been Saw Milling at shop and doing a little hunting this week. Still hot and for the first time this Summer starting to get a little dry. Bo treed one the other morning up an oak covered in vines that were loaded with Muscadines. Today we had a few people over eating some good Bar B Q and this 15 year old, Thad, wanted to fish and Coon Hunt tonight so we did. Caught a couple from the pier after dark then took Bo and Bob to Black Branch Swamp. We didn't get started good riding down the trail and Bo blew up followed by Bob so we cut them right there and they drove a track hard for a couple hundred yards and slammed the tree. We saw the coon coming in and hooked the hounds apart and put him down between them. Bob was happy to get some fur in his mouth since Rocket had got away from them a couple weeks ago. We came home to put Bo up and had a Catfish on one of the poles. This boy is in Heaven hanging out on the River catching fish and running Hounds. Just need some Cooler weather and it would be perfect.

I am like Ed in that I could sure see that beautiful cypress being used in a lot of nice settings. We don't get much cypress up in this neck of the woods.

Take Care,
Scott

DESTIN FLORIDA

A few more pictures of our trip to Destin then I will get back to Hound Pictures this week. Top picture is our view from the room, middle picture is Mason moving in about 3 different directions after the Frisbee that had been caught by the wind and changed directions, bottom picture is him with the Football looking out at the Gulf before we started playing. Great trip with Great weather and Great food. Mason loves it as much as I always have. Been coming to FT. Walton and Destin since I was a Teenager. Mason will know the lay of the land way before he is in high school and headed here for Spring Break.

Mr. Jack, lights are everywhere in Destin like any city I guess. To many for me and I'm ready to be back in the woods listening to my Hound in the Dark. I do enjoy Destin though and especially seeing the happiness in Mason's face and the fun he has.

Scott there is no telling where that Sinker Cypress Mantle will end up but it will be a one of a kind that's for sure. It's the best one I have ever cut out of a Sinker Log.

BO and BAM

We got home from Florida late yesterday evening and I was going to hunt but a big storm rolled in and we got 4 " of rain in 2 hours. Tonight I took BO and Bam to Haunted House Bottom and they struck a Hot Track about 200yds in and left there screaming going west to the River. Got to River and turned South a ways then Bam fell treed at 646yds but Bo kept rolling then fell treed at 722yds. I felt Bo probably had a sow and Bam had a young one or pulled up to quick. I got half way to them and Bam moved to Bo's tree. Bo was treed on a huge water oak on the edge of someone's yard on the River Bank. I saw the Coon looking at me when I came across their yard and wanted to hook Bam back and let Bo have it but I was off the land I have permission to hunt AND close to the house so I hooked them up and headed back to 4 wheeler. It was thundering and Lighting off in the distance when I cut them and by the time I got out of there it was about to get bad so to the house we went. We haven't had a cool front yet but it is cooler at dark than it has been and coon are moving better. Nice to get on a good track right off.

Bo and Bam

Sounds like a good hunt Steve, except for the house on the river. I'm like you When my dogs get close to a house regardless of where I know the people or not, I'm ready to get the dogs and get out of there. Steve I'm sure ready to get back in the woods. This is the longest I've been away from coonhunting since I had open heart surgery, and I've still got at least 2 more weeks to go. I'm sure glad you and Scott and a few others are putting your hunts on here so at least I have something to read about. When ya'll tell about your hunts, I feel like I'm walking right along there with you

BO and BAM

We got 2" of rain this evening and it has the woods about flooded everywhere I hunt but I took them anyway. Cut them East headed away from the River and they struck over 600yds in and moved it a few minutes then Bam fell treed. Bo backed him after I had started their way. Good size oak with big vines going into it but it was thick out away from it and tough to shine. If he was there I didn't get him to look but I feel he was up there somewhere. Black Branch Swamp was Deep with water so I came on home. It will drain out some by the time I cut Bob loose in there tomorrow night so hopefully he will get after one.

Mr. Jack I will be glad when your healed up and can go to. We haven't got together for a hunt in a while and need to catch up. Take Care and will talk to you soon.

BO and BOB

Took Bo and Bob tonight and Bo worked a tough track for a little while then Bob started putting in some and they got treed on a China Berry tree in a wet thicket. The highlight of the night was when I grabbed a sapling as I was squalling and give it a few shakes trying to get him to look and a Snake fell out of the sapling and hit my left shoulder. I don't know about yaw but my brain don't tell me that a snake up a tree most likely ain't a bad snake. My Brain tells me..... RUN!!! I slapped it off and jumped back and shined my light on the ground and it was a 18" striped snake. I think they call them Garter Snakes and will do you no harm but I did it some harm and stomped it in the mud for scaring a few years off my life. I couldn't find the coon but he was up in there somewhere because those two hounds were blowing the top out. Bo had located over and over and he does that when he is winding a coon and trying to settle on the right tree. It was pines all around and he could have been in one of them. I made another drop but didn't get a bark so came on in. May go to the hills in the truck tomorrow and try our luck there and give the swamps a little break.

GOOD OLE DAYS

I shop around for Vintage Coon Hunting stuff online from time to time and last week I found these Coon Squallers never been opened in the original display box from the 60's and this Schrade Knife with leather sheath and has Coonhound Treeing with Coon in tree and Coon hunter walking up etched into the ivory bone handle. Made in USA. From the 70's. Came from an Estate Sale in Maine that also was selling off stock from an Old General Store. Knife has never been used, looks brand new. These new treasures of mine will sit on an Sinker Cypress Shelf in the house so I can look at them and remember The Good Ole Days. I will pass down things like this when I'm gone from this world and Hope that I meant enough to the one I leave them to that they don't end up in another Estate Sale.

Mallard Tone Coon squaller

Steve,
I will give you $3.50 for one of those. LOL. Mallard tone makes a nice Duck call too. Of the two Squallers I have the wood one seems to get more activity out of the coon than the plastic one I have.
It is interesting what you can find online these days for old coon hunting stuff.
Hope everything is going well.

Scott

MASON's BIRTHDAY

Yesterday was my Grandson Levi's Birthday, he turned 2, and today was Mason's Birthday, he turned 6. We went over and had a little cake that he helped his Mama make and watched the Nascar Race with him. His main party will be Saturday when his Dad gets in from work.
I haven't hunted the past two nights because of steady rain that had set in. Had my boat in the River to hunt out of but will pull it out tomorrow as our River is Closed for a while and they are warning people to not have any contact with the water. A Sewer Treatment Plant's Levee busted Friday and over 6 MILLION GALLONS of RAW SEWAGE hit our River at Brookhaven. 45 minutes upstream from the house. And they blamed it on a Beaver, UNBELIVABLE!!!! The leaders of this Country are a JOKE!!! From the County and City level on up to the President. Sheet pile would NEVER be dug or chewed on for a Beaver to take the blame but they say that cost to much money yet we spend millions a day letting people into this Country that want to kill us or at least change the way we live. So crap like this will continue to happen and as far as I know there hasn't been a fine or anyone fired. Just destroy our River and business as usual. I was in the River Friday morning getting Driftwood and now this evening I'm running a fever. Headed to Dr. tomorrow and Hope it's just Sinus Related and not some kind of Bacterial Infection from the River. We had 4" of rain the past two days and wish it would rain 10 more so the River would get up rolling and blow this stuff to the Gulf. SAD!!

Scott thanks for the offer but I will hold out for a little better offer, lol! Going to keep these old calls in their boxes just to look at. I agree the wood to me sounds better and seems to get a few more looks than the plastic but I carry the Chatterbox and like it a lot. That's a great looking pup you have for sale off Shadow and Hammerhead. My pup days are over for a While. I got to carried away the past couple years buying and raising pups and have burnt out on it so getting down to 2 or 3 at most and enjoy hunting them. Have 4 now but one supposed to leave this week. Will have Bo, Bob and Bam and that's PLENTY. Send some Cool weather our way soon, still way to hot. Take Care.

BO

Took BO and Pebbles to Haunted House Bottom and Bo went over 900yds West then turned South for a few hundred then started hooking back my way through the center of the swamp bottom and was going to pass me up about 200yds out headed North but I called him in. Not a Bark. Went to Black Branch Swamp and just like the past two trips in there he blew up on back of 4 wheeler and I cut them. They left there burning his tail but the swamp was flooded from all the rain we had and he soon slowed them down a bit in the water then went through the Hog Wire and slowed them even more but BO found his way through and didn't trail another 150yds and fell treed. He was in 6" of water and had this double up this medium to small size tree. I hooked him back and hooked Pebbles at the base and knocked the highest one out which looked the smallest of the two and it wasn't the sow, half grown boar. It hit near Pebbles and I took it and fooled with her some then let BO have it. On the way out we jumped up a Spotted Fawn and it jumped in the creek with a big splash and just stood there a few seconds. I tried to get my phone out to get a picture but before I could he took off. Got home and was putting feed in their pens before I unloaded them and there was a small Cotton Mouth in BO's Pen. I killed it and glad I saw it before I let him in there or he might of got snake bit. We have had a lot of rain and the gully below the Kennel is full of water and I guess that's where he came from. Enjoyed tonight as it is always fun to be able to see eyes coming into the tree and then shine their whole body. Don't happen like that very often around these thickets. You can see one Coon in the top and the other is below him on backside of tree.

BO and BOB

Picture of Bob treed is from tonight. Picture of my bleeding arm and hand is from last night. Bam got treed last night in a Jungle of scrub trees and saw briars that ate my arms and hands up. When I finally got us out of there I sat down on the ground to rest a bit and was right near a fire ant bed and it wasn't long until I found out, they ate my backside up. Tonight I took BO and BOB across the road from the house and cut them down the Cypress Slough. They were in deep almost a half mile when I heard Bob open a few times. I rode the 4 wheeler up the little county road toward Black Branch swamp and stopped half way there to listen. They were 450yds across a cow pasture working their way down the slough but not opening right then. A couple minutes went by and Bo opened a few times then started locating with Bob locating at the same time. It didn't sound like a good track and at first they didn't sound like they liked it so I let them tree a few minutes and they settled in to blowing the top out. Bob was really roaring. That Big Rascal is making a Tree Dog!! Got to them and they was on a Big Oak and I found 3 Coon in it and put one down to them. They were pretty hot time we got out of there so I came on home. Coon are finally moving good and these hounds are getting them treed. Enjoying every second and looking forward to cooler weather so we feel like hunting a lot longer. It was 95 today but dropping into the 60's by in the morning so it's getting better! Good Hunting!!

BOB

Mr. Ed, I can't wait to see him stretched out on a tree beside his Mama in a few weeks at your Cabin! See you Soon!

Took Bob by himself tonight and we had the worst luck. Went to Bo's Bottom where the trail is washed out and I decided to go in on the South end. I never hunt or go in on that side because there is a Land Owner that is a Real ***!! that joins the place on that side. He has a 10' Tall, Tight Hog Wire fence all way down that side. Well right off Bob trailed a Coon out of a creek bottom right to that fence and bayed. I got to him before he could find a way to get in there. Decided to check where the trail is blown out and they had finally fixed it today so drove on to the back and cut him. He got on one but it took to the Beaver Pond and he lost it so rounded him up and went to Black Branch Swamp where he got on one and ended up treed on the Hog Wire in there! He don't know where the holes are yet like BO and Bam but he will learn. Was headed to make another drop but when I came out to the Road the guy that has the lease came by with his wife and we talked on side of road a little then he told me some news that broke my heart for them. His 67 year old Mother just found out she has Stage 4 Terminal Cancer. Said her Liver is just one big mass of Cancer. 6 Months left to live. It just tore me up because they are great, honest, hard working folks that live right and it's just awful to hear news like that. After we finished talking and they drove off Bob and I sat on the 4 wheeler for a while then I eased on home. That Sad News took the fun out of the night for me and I didn't feel like cutting him again. I Pray for a Miracle for his Mom or at least that she don't suffer bad before she goes. Life is short I don't care who you are. We never know when it may be Ourselves that gets news like that. Do the things you Love to Do Now. Tomorrow is not Promised.

BAM!!

Bam got treed on a Double tonight that was laid up in a medium size oak with a lot of vines and a bushy top. Treeing in a clearing 30' from their tree up on his hind legs looking at the top of their tree like he could see them. He opened once at 185 yards then fell treed at 227. I hit the squaller and one of them started down and I got this picture of him peeping at me from the right side of the trunk just below the bright spot of my light. Give Bam a Reward and called it a Good Night. We hunted 4 nights last week and 5 straight this week and Coon were moving and hounds looked better this week than they have in a while. Cool weather coming next week and even better Hunting ahead, Love It!!
