Update

Bret sent me a couple of pictures of his Badger dog looking good on the wood. He says that he has had Badger out a few nights and each night he comes up treed with a coon in just a short amount of time. He is starting to develop a nice tree bark and from what I'm hearing...he's a pretty nice pup. He just turned a year old at the end of March so he's showing pretty good.

This is Badger...and Bret...on the wood...

Badger is by way of...

Gr. Nite Ch. Ch. PR T-Top Dark Timber Moose

and

Nite Ch. PR Brown's Leinie Red Ryder

Bret deserves some special credit because he started Badger alone and has brought him along basically by himself and without the help of a pup trainer dog to help lead him through the tough spots. I know that Bret has had the opportunity to put Badger out with other dogs but he has basically learned his business by himself and because he's had a good teacher who has stayed consistent with him...I like that.

Badger's story is a lot like his momma's story...she had a good teacher who gave her a chance to learn and did it all nearly completely alone...very similar kind of story for dam and pup.

Nice job Bret!

Griz is by way of

Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser

and

Gr. Nite Ch. Midnight Music [/B][/QUOTE]

Good to see the Griz on this thread. He is as nice a tree dog as I've ever hunted with. He's from a successful cross and shouldn't be too hard for Dave to get that first on him.

It'll be fun to see what he and Sid will produce together. What I am noticing here on this thread is that the line crosses and the outcrosses both work.

This must be that, "foundation" you are referring to eh Tom?

Did Dave take Griz to the Wisconsin State Championship last night?

Posted by topdog on 05-28-2011 04:49 PM:

Griz...

No, we have a local celebration with a carnival in town and Dave had the kids at the carnival last night for wrist band night...all the rides you can stomach for one price...I know his boys and I'd guess it was an all nighter

Griz just needs a cast win to finish and we agree Chris, he's a nice hound that will get that last cast win easy enough. I know that you spent some time with him and liked him a lot and we can see why, he's got a great attitude and easy to handle.

Our program is to hunt them down hard and then we'll put him out in some competition. When he's right, he won't move and he has gotten more right each night out and looks tough either alone or with company so we'll see how it shakes out.

Dave had wanted to take him to ARD but school doesn't let out this year until June 3rd so it kind of put a tough obstacle in the way of making it. I don't know if he's going to try and leave around noon on Friday to hunt Friday night and Saturday or if we'll just have to skip this time around and shoot for National Days in July. I'll know more later today and we'll have the plan in place by the end of the weekend.

Got to spend some time with Mark Bates on his way through towards Michigan and later American Days, it was real good to get caught up. I got a chance to see Cuz and he has grown into a real nice looking hound...lot of leg and a great body structure all around. He's got the "look" for sure, I'd recognize his style anywhere.

I love it when those youngsters put it together...especially when it comes so naturally. I'm hoping to get Gun out tonight to see what kind of trouble we can get into

Griz

Dave took Griz to the woods again last night and had a pretty good hunt...Two drops, two tracks and trees with the meat...

Griz...lookin' good...on the wood...

This was a big ol' oak and Griz looked real good up on it...

Griz will take a little bark off when he's treed...he reminds me a lot of our old Rocky dog...acts pretty much the same, right down to chewing the bark off if he can.

Right now, it looks like Dave will try and make at least one night down at ARD, probably Saturday night considering that he'll have to travel after school lets out on Friday. He'll at least get to visit a few folks and get Griz in the woods one night if it works out.

We'll see how the day shapes up...if it doesn't storm too much later on this evening, maybe we'll get a couple of these young dogs to the woods right here around the house.

Great start

That pup is off to a great start Carl, a real good foundation and now showing that it all pays off in the end.

I know that you put some time into those pups exposing them to what you want them to get after and it always pays dividends. It's like I always say...it's not an event...it's a process.

Nice looking pup and a real nice young male makes for a bright future Carl.

Not that looks more like the trees that Griz gets on. lol Sure am glad that Dave is liking him. Toward the bottom of page 1 on this thread is a picture of him at about 16 months old in January.

Red

Yes sir...he sure does John. He has a look that is a combination of a lot of dogs that I've had the pleasure to follow through all these years.

Red looks real good John, I hope you gives you many years of enjoyment and that he keeps you in outstanding hounds for as long as you want to be in the sport.

Red is put together with a great foundation and he is a good looking hound for sure. There are some females out there that can contribute towards that 3 and maybe even 4 generation pedigree when mated to the right male and Red could surely be that male when he finishes.

I'll look forward to watching it all unfold John, it looks like you got yourself a good one.

Last night

I had the chance to go to the woods with Dave G and his Dozer male last night. We took Yank, Dozer and Gun and we had an interesting night.

I'll have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that Dozer is further along than I thought he would be. We turned them loose and he and Gun hooked up and covered a lot of ground. They never got anything done but they didn't chase trash and they tracked themselves back and hunted hard the whole time. We turned them in to where Yank was treed and they both came on the tree like they meant it...of course, I had the camera in the Ranger at the time so I didn't get any pictures but I was happy to see how it all played out. Those two young males were side by side on that tree and sounded real good. I'll get another chance to get some pictures of those two in the woods and I'd guess it won't be too long before Dozer puts it together and Dave will have a nice hound on his hands.

I also had a chance to visit with Mark and his family on their way back to Montana, they stopped in to pick up a dog...PR T-Top Long Tall Slim is on his way to his new home and will hopefully provide Mark some real good times for a long time to come. I will hope to enjoy many years of hearing about their escapades in the mountains and plains of Montana.

Oh my goodness, what a weekend I had. I hunted with Deuce, Bacon, Tom, Frog Dawg and Willow this weekend. They are all right out of the same mold. The T-Top Everready kennels just goes on and on and on and on. It is amazing to see them all tied out side by side.

She's a nice hound, very laid back and easy going in the pen but she's gone when you turn her loose and can get a track up and tree it like a hound dog should.

Does she have pups on the ground yet?? Not just exactly yet...but it won't be long. She is about 2 and a half weeks away from whelping and from what I saw of her this weekend, she's going to have a nice litter.

She is mated to PR Griz I don't know his full name but he is directly out of the Rabble Rouser and Music cross and has two first place wins in UKC so just needs any cast win to finish. He's an outstanding tree dog and put up real nice.

Griz and Sid is a half brother/half sister cross with Rabble Rouser being the common sire. I'm thinking the cross should have some real potential and we'll be excited to see those pups on the ground,.

Sid had her pups last week right on schedule. Aaron told me that she had 9(5 females and 4 males). I am pretty excited to see how they turn out.

I keep hearing that there is going to be a Grizz x Sid pup at my house! We'll have to wait and see.

Good luck with Grizz and make him a Grand Night. I sure like the dog.

Look at the ears on that pup! So, you can could cross the Deuce X Music Maker pups with the Griz X Sid pups? I would just love to have a Tom Tom X Sid pup. Is Griz going to be at National Redbone Days? Didn't Dave place Moose in Holmesville one night last year?

The weak link with Griz is his owner. He has been the one holding him back. lol I would love to see a red dog on the end of Smoke's lead. That would be priceless.

Cherry

Tom this is the last coon I shot out to T-Top Sweet Cherry before I sold her to you. I had it mounted for my coonhunters den. Never had one mounted before. It is only 18 pounds and a male. I went to the woods and got the tree stump and put it on it. Looks better on it than it did on the oak shelf. Put a little moss on it. Dave

What about the Rabble next, next generations? My Rabble great-grandpup, Trip, will be heading up to Virginia to be trained by SuperDave pretty soon now. The Rabble great-grandpups should start showing up/off in the near future. They will be T-Top Rocky X T-Top Roxy great-great-great-grandpups. What a legacy. I guess that you can't get there in just a couple of years. Tom, how many pairs of boots have you gone through?
