ROAD TRIPS

Saturday night I was Lazy and didn't hunt except on the Computer with the UKC WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL CAST. Sounded like they had a cast of deserving Hounds and it was action packed with plenty of Coons and Great Dog Work. Enjoyed the PLAY by PLAY. Wish they would get some great Video Equipment and Film it and Live Stream it. Maybe Bo and I need to get busy if we want to see it Live, lol! Beverly and I left yesterday morning and went to the Coast to the IP CASINO RESORT and SPA. Played the Slots some, watched the Nascar Race and ate some great food, spent the night and just got home today. All the way back I told her I couldn't wait until we were in the Road to Illinois to Mr. Ed's and Mrs. Mary's. Ready to visit good friends and listen to Bobbie and her son Bob tree a few Cornfield Coon then put them up and cast Bo and Bam for a few. Hopefully Mr. Jack will be along with Sheba 11. We leaving out Very Early October 13th and going to stay 4 or 5 nights. Beverly has planned for us to visit Arthur Illinois about 2 hours from Mr. Ed's. Its a big Amish Community and that Saturday they will be having a Bar-B-Q Contest, Flea Market sale, Horse Sale, ect. We will leave early Saturday and spend most of the day looking at all the things they build and make and offer for sale. Don't know if Mr. Ed and them will want to make that all day adventure or not since they live there but I ain't got a Choice, Lol! Just kidding as I am looking forward to it as much as Beverly. The leaves should be changing color pretty good and Cool Weather should be getting a foot hold up there by then. Going back in November also when Season opens for another good visit and Lots of Good Hunting!

HUNTING and WORKING

I built 9 sets of Sinker Cypress Shutters last week for a Project I started today. Got all of them installed and will case in their 4 Columns with Sinker Cypress on Thursday. This lady I'm working for is the one I built the Pavilion for back in April. She told me today her Mom also wants Shutters so I will be staying pretty busy.

Took Bob last night for a drop before the Rain hit and he got on a good track that took him through some deep water and he got treed on a Big Cypress surrounded by water. I went over my hip boots twice trying to find an open hole to shine the tree from but no luck. Thunder and Lighting made me quit looking before I was ready and just as I got in the house the bottom fell out. Will cut him again at 4am in the morning.

Then there were 3......

Took Bob last night for 3 drops but nothing to brag about. Made one tree at the end but it was twisted up 15' above the ground and had fell across a creek but stayed hooked to the tall trunk. Bob treed on it but the coon had crossed over and went out the other side.

Took Bo and Bam tonight and Bo got hooked first drop deep on a Big Cherry but to thick in there to shine the tree. Went to Black Branch Swamp next and they got over 600yds deep and I rode closer. When I stopped Bam was treed. Started to him then Bo fell treed closer to me. Got to Bo and hooked him then went the 80yds deeper into the swamp to Bam and his Tree. He had a young Coon up a Oak. Went back to Bo and he had a Big Coon and a Young One up his tree. Left them all so we have something to tree this winter when I can't hunt other places because of Deer Season. They were really treeing hard tonight with it Cool in the mid 60's. Had the swamp echoing with their calls for me to come see. Good night of Hunting and Bam really looked good splitting and holding with a Coon.

BO and Bob

Been hunting about every night. Bam and Bob are really making some more progress and on some nights really look great for young up and coming hounds. Bam made 3 trees in an hour a few nights ago. Bob and Bo tonight in Black Branch swamp got two treed in a hurry with BO getting first and first on the first one and Bob getting First and First on the 2nd one. It was a decent track that Bob pushed fast over 300 yards through the swamp and fell on the Knarly Oak with 3 Beautiful locates followed by those Booming Bawls calling me to come see. He had him and I knocked it out to him. Was going to hunt longer but it went so good tonight I came on in. When you hunt Alone there isn't anybody there to talk you in to, " One More Drop "

Mr. steve

I'm liking this cool weather also. Just wandering if you might know where I might could find me a good hound to hunt with my young gyp I just went to Lufkin tx to pick one up to try but he isn't handling tracks here for some reason I got 2500 to spend but not having any luck I prefer blue but not deadest on any breed just good honest coondawg
Thanks Louis

DOG FOR SALE

Louis, I don't have one for sale and don't know of anyone who does. With 2,500 you should be able to find a nice hound. I was just texting with someone last night about hounds and their worth and I know people have things happen in their life and they have to part with a good hound. I have done it myself. But if a person has a nice hound that they enjoy the majority of the time hunting then to me that's worth a lot more to me and my life than money. The memories made in a Hounds lifetime are what a Houndsman Life is all about. Good Luck in your search and also be Careful. This time of year there will be a lot of trade hounds floating around and you could get burnt. Hope you find the type your looking for to make those memories with.

Young Guns

This is Steve in Illinois on Mr. Ed's computer. I don't have a good enough signal with Verizon to log in or upload all the new pictures of this great trip we are on. So a quick update on the past few nights of hunting. Bob and Bam are looking as good as any young hound I have ever seen. They are doing some great work and if I typed some of the things these two have shown us some of yaw would really think I was stretching the truth. That last Coon I put out to Bob he treed in Black Branch Swamp built his confidence level by leaps and bounds. This hound is ever more a screaming fast track dog and a stay put every breath tree dog. Bam has also done some great work and made 7 trees and not once with another hound. 3 single coon a possum a slick and two for sure maybes that I feel he had the coons. When I get home I will be posting the full hunt stories with pictures from this awesome time up here with Mr. Ed. Look for it on Monday morning!

ILLINOIS HUNTING TRIP

We made it home tonight from another great trip to Illinois Coon Hunting with Mr. Ed Mauney. Every trip there are memories made that are permanently imprinted into my mind. Special moments that are to never be forgotten and this trip was no exception. I could write half a book on our 5 nights of hunting and our adventures but will only touch here on the High Points. First a HUGE THANK YOU to the Mauney Family. They opened their Cabin up and Hunting grounds to me and Beverly and 4 potlickers for the week. Mrs. Mary cooked up the finest home cooked meals a Man or Woman could ever hope to have. Delicious is an understatement and even though we hunted 5 to 6 hours a night for 5 nights and climbed some pretty steep hills I know I gained at least 5 pounds! The memories that stand out the most on the hounds in that 5 nights are as follows: Bobbie, Miss Consistent. Last time I hunted with her she was 3 for 3. Bang, bang, bang. First night this trip I hunted with her she was 3 for 3, Bang, bang, bang. Makes it look so simple so fast. Bo, treed a couple, struggled with some tracks in the dry conditions and the feeder tracks with gobs of Acorns. More Acorns than I have ever seen. Bob, took a decent track 525 yards quick and treed on a Massive Red Oak with as Fine and Powerful mouth as you could ever want to hear on a hound. Got treed ahead of Bo a couple times and the last night we hunted him with Bobbie he got all 3 trees on his Mom. With each Coon treed I can see Huge increase in his confidence. Screaming fast track dog that will not hesitate to fall treed on a feeder coon that's laid up with a full belly. He started a couple weeks ago getting the tree on Bo some. I put a few coon on him here and he has took off like a Rocket in the Progress he has made. I thought it was just his good week and Bo's bad week but when you hear him get a few trees on his Mom who is the finest female I have ever hunted with then he Really gets your attention. Super Star in the Making. Bam, Mr. Independent. Bam was hunted with Bo once, Bobbie twice and by himself once. He made 10 trees. Every one of them ALONE. Split from Bobbie or Bo anywhere from 50' to several hundred yards. Does not matter, Bam gets Alone with the Coon. 10 trees he had 5 single coon, 1 possum, 3 big oaks full of leaves so circle them up and 1 slick thicket. By that I mean he came treed baying in a bad thicket. I think the track ran out and he just couldn't pick it up to move it so he called me to the last spot he had scent. Both young hounds are 15 months old hunting a long way from the swamps of Mississippi and the Bogue Chitto River in dry conditions on feeder tracks from a lot of coon eating gobs of acorns going tree to tree. I was very pleased with what I seen. Each young hound has a different style of hunting and trailing but both produce the same end result, Treed with a Coon. The pressure is on ME now, not the hounds. They have proved they belong here and deserving to eat my feed now I have to hold up my end and keep these two in the woods so they reach their Full Potential. Very excited about what the future holds for these two hounds as is Mr. Ed. Going to be a fun ride.

We also saw several huge bucks while out hunting. Lots of other young bucks and does. Spent a day in the Amish area and had a great time. Looking forward to going back next month when season is in and we can drop a couple down to two very deserving young hounds.

Terry glad to hear Ole Stormy got to make a round. Sure hope she takes this time when you breed her to Boomer 11 and you get good pups on the ground. When I come back to Mr. Ed's next month if it's where you could come down and hunt with us some I would sure like to meet you and see Bam's brother, Lighting go. Take Care.

PHOTOBUCKET SUCKS

For a long time Photobucket has been Sorry for trying to get videos to upload and nothing has changed. I have some nice videos from our trip but cannot get them on here and now this picture I had already posted at the top of my trip pictures is gone so here it is again. I see all the time a lot of folks on this board have trouble with Photobucket. There must be Animal Activist doing the editing and deleting our videos and pictures. Facebook is SO MUCH EAISER! Anyone wanting to see Videos from the trip send me a friend request on Facebook.

SMILIN BOB

Took Bob to Black Branch Swamp tonight and he got gone and struck at over 350yds and fell treed all in one breath. He was on the tree in the top picture and that tree was slick. it had oak limbs that came into but I felt they weren't big enough for a coon to cross out on. I took a quick look around with no squalling then led him 20 yards and recut. He went out then started circling back and I thought he was headed back to the tree but he started opening and moved out fast after he was over a 100 yards he was rolling like he had jumped some junk until he came down on the 2nd tree like a Bolt of Lighting Hit it and Lit it up. He blew the top out and had those Swamp Bottoms Ringing. He was 248yds from me. I headed to him and took pictures at the big oak After I found Coon Eyes. I knocked it out to him and we made our way back to the 4 wheeler. On the way in the swamp I had a right back axle popping and barely made it home riding slow. Headed to the shop tomorrow with it. These Artic Cats chew up these axles. Next machine I have will say, HONDA.

SMILIN BOB

We had a cool front move in Thursday Night just after dark and the way it looked on radar we were going to get a good rain. It started a steady sprinkle and was slow moving so I fed the hounds up and called it a rain out. Yesterday morning when I cut grass still some dust in the air so we didn't get enough to measure now its 10 more days of no chance of rain. It is dry around here. Seems like when it flooded August 11th we haven't had any since. Took my 4 wheeler to shop and its the axle bearing instead of axle so won't hit my wallet as bad. I'm on foot until then and last night I took Bob across road from house and cut him down the cypress slough. He went South maybe a 100yds then cut hard left and I heard him hit the slough and swim across. He struck on the other side and it was a cold feeder track that he trailed back toward the road. There had been the sound of busy traffic and I figured it was because of the Fair going on in Franklinton, La. just across the State line. Huge Fair that draws people from all over. I hustled back up the slough until I could get across to Bobs side and got between him and the road to catch him if needed but he came treed before he got to close. He was on a big water oak with two dead vines going up into it and only place I could shine was straight up. I slapped those vines against the tree and they both broke off above my head out of reach. As I was looking up at that I saw the coon starting down the tree but he went back up when my light hit him and I never found him again. Petted Bob up and we made our way home. Busy road and on foot was not worth the risk of cutting him again. Will try to get down river tonight in boat or hunt out of Kubota.

Dry

Steve,
I hope things are going well. I enjoy reading of your travels and hunts and all of the sinker cypress projects you have going on. We have plenty of moisture here but it has not been too wet. Just right for the harvest of corn and soybeans going on up here now. Looks like Smiling Bob is making you a nice one. Don't forget about Ol' Bo haha. I am sure enjoying his half sister and Tramp II. I have surely been blessed. Take Care and keep up the stories.
Scott

BOB

Thanks Scott. Been reading your stories to and glad to see you hitting the timber with Creek and Tramp 11. I know yaw having fun. So glad Tramp 11 has another great home with you and wish you the best with him. He is a fine hound and your right, if a person don't like his mouth they don't like Blueticks. Bo is mad at me and jealous too. Bob sure has my attention now and probably gonna keep it for a while. Don't want to brag him up to much or he will blow up on me, lol, but he is in a class by himself. Expecting great things out of him when the time is right. Just trying to get the hunting time in to get him there. We went a while tonight and made a tree off an old feeder track. 4 wheeler is still in shop so still hunting from foot here at the house. Keep those two fine hounds in the woods Scott and get them tuned up for the Winter Classic and make a trip South in February. Take Care and Good Hunting!
