This was a nice hunt. Mr. Wilson is coming along nicely.

On another note, I sure was worried about Haze when I got home. He could barely walk and was squalling in pain when he jumped off the tailgate. Don't know what was going on except maybe he was just sore from roading so far the other night. He seems to be ok now, but I won't hunt him for a while to let him get healed up. As much as I hate it, he's not a young hound anymore even though I wish he was.

Haze

Hope Haze is alright my friend. I hunted my Maggie female on Nov. 30th and the next day she didn't want to eat and was all stoved up. She is due to have pups 28 Dec. so that got her put up. I killed 5 coons that night and I think it was just to much action for her. She was back on her feed and great two days later. She looks like a pot belly pig now. Hope that is the case with Haze. Thanks Dave. He is doing just fine it seems now. I've seen dogs get pretty sore from things but he had me concerned. He never lost his appetite and he would still greet you with a wagging tail. The main thing is now that he seems to be just fine. I may not road him that far anymore. Either way...he's a good ole dog and companion.

Thanks for the info Jared. We hunted 3 Haze dogs last night.....after a good chase and a pine tree. We struck a real hot one........just wished it would have been a coon......ole blackie gave them a run for the money. We caught them fortunately as they were crossing the road. They bayed him up one time but he broke on them. I had forgotten the owner had told me they had been seeing several bear on their property. We evidently dropped them right on him...lol.

Haze as a pup.

Solo Training

This is Tuff (Haze/Faith) and this was a 350 yard drag with plenty of twists and turns. Tuff did a very nice job on this drag. He located the tree and began treeing and when I went in, I realized that he had not seen the coon yet. I used a dead coon we got last night. When he moved around the tree, he saw and treed even harder. He's a nice prospect. No doubt in my mind that Tuff and his sister can tree coon by themselves.....they just turned 8 months old yesterday.

First Hunt Solo

Tonight, I took my female pup from Haze/Faith that just turned 8 months old for her first hunt by herself. We hunted for about an hour and a half before she struck a coon. It seemed like a decent track......she ran it for about 160 yards down a creek. She threw several nice locates and then rolled it over to a triple chop first....then after a few of those she settled in to a steady chop. I was on the way down the ridge to where she was and with my amber light on, the coon looked at me when I was about 50 yards away. This was her first trip to the woods alone and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Here are some pictures. Now I am getting ready to load up her brother and see what happens for him.

I like the progress that those pups are making. Haze x Faith seems to have been a good cross. Timmy Kirk was trying to sell his female last I talked to him. Keep up good work.

With her age and only coming in once a year we will breed her in Feb when she comes in. I hope to get her Nitech as soon as we get her off pups if not before. I like her real well and like what I'm seeing out of those pups you got.

Took the female out again tonight before the rain set in. She struck a track, moved it about 400 yards and came treed. Turned out to be a big pine with grape vines in it. Not bad for a 8 month old pup on her 2nd night by herself. Here are a few pics from tonight.
