BATH DAY

Yesterday was Bath Day for Bo and Bob and boy do they love it. Got them all shampooed up and swam them for a while and they felt much better after the Cool Swim. Mr. Ed and Mrs. Mary are coming tomorrow to get Bob and take him back to Illinois so Caleb and Mr. Ed can hunt him some and enjoy listening to him get those Big Coon treed. Told Mr. Ed to let Mrs. Mary know that Bob was clean and could ride up front with them on the way back, lol! She let me know Real Quick that Bob would be riding in the BOX, lol. It will be down to where it all started, JUST ME AND BO. Maybe that's where it should have always been. I have enjoyed starting and hunting all the Pups I have fooled with here over the past few years but it wears on a man especially if your having health issues. I put a lot of pressure on myself and when I can't live up to my on expectations it starts to stress me out and wears on me. Now down to me and Bo there will be NO PRESSURE. If I can get out a few nights a week and hunt, great, but if not as long as I can take my Buddy Swimming and for Boat Rides and feed him treats, then, we will be just fine.

JAMMING

We went yesterday and got a Flat of Strawberries, 2 Gallons of Mayhaws and came home and I picked a Gallon of Dew Berries on the Sandbar. It's Jelly and Jam making time on the River! Beverly will be busy Saturday. Leaving at 8 this morning to go meet with the Dr and go over my MRI. Been waiting it seems 4-ever for this day to get here and see what my options are. Took Bo out Wednesday night and he got one treed pretty deep up a Big Turkey Pine. Between squalling and shaking Vines I found him and came on home. Sleepy sent me a picture of Ann and she's Big with Bo pups and Mr. Jack said Sheba is going to have Bob pups for sure. Looking forward to the first week in May and these 2 litters arrival.

MRI UPDATE

Just got home from Dr. and this is what they said. Very Bad Back but not a lost cause yet. Going to do 2 injections at same time, one in right side L-4 and L-5. The other on Left Side, L-5 and S-1. Then Spinal Implant Stimulator put in my Back. If that don't work they will talk about Surgery but not real keen on doing anything other than trying to get me some relief so I can enjoy some more Life. Said I don't need to be driving everyday anywhere as that will just make me progressively worse and that I'm not to Sawmill or do any type work that requires use of a strong back, not on a daily basics. So, that takes both my ways of making a living away. We going to be eating Lots of Fish, lol! All joking aside this is what I figured for the past few months that I would hear so No Surprise to me at all. If I can get some relief so I can Coon Hunt and Fish then I will be A-OK. Should have the Injections done within the next 2 weeks and some people are telling me the Pain Relief is Instant while others say it took up to 2 weeks or didn't work at all. Beverly's Mom said she could barely walk when she went to get injections and when she walked out of there had NO PAIN at all. Praying that's how it will affect me.

Good luck Steve! I have been pretty fortunate with my back. I do know now that l am a lucky man in some of the more stupid things l USED to do. Offer still open on sending one of those dogs up here for awhile if needed.

BO in BLACK BRANCH SWAMP

Thanks Ron and Gary. It's been a struggle and sure will be nice if they get this pain and muscle cramps off me so I can pick the pace up.

Took Bo to Black Branch Swamp tonight and he struck in Rocket's Area and trailed a pretty good track out of there and came treed over 500yds in. He had trailed way past all that wild hog fencing in the Swamp and I knew he was close to some small fields that a guy has some Beef Cows in and he was. So I was able to make 300 of those yards going down the fields edge which was nice. He was treed on this Leaner which was Lodged into a Huge Water Oak and the Coon was looking at me with both eyes as I came in. Sure was nice to be in a Woodlot that's was open because of the Cows keeping everything tromped down and ate up. Makes finding the Coon easy. We came on home after that one.

RIVER LIFE

My Little Buddy came over today and spent the night tonight. We started with 4 hours of swimming and floating while Beverly made Dew Berry Jelly in the Kitchen. She did manage one break and rode her 4 wheeler up the Sandbar to where Me, Mason, Freckles and Bo were having a good ole time swimming and tossing the plastic bottle into the River for Bo to Fetch. She had us pose for this picture and I like it, turned out good. She kept hanging around hating to leave good times and go back to making jelly and I thought for a minute me and Mason might have to toss a few Rocks her way to get her headed back toward the Kitchen but she ended up heading out on her on, lol! We sure love our Mimi and the Jelly too! We finally quit swimming and played Baseball a while then Kade Turnage and his Pawpaw and some friends drove up from near the Coast to Coon Hunt. Was storming at dark but after 9pm it quit and we went and made 2 drops and Bo got over 800yds deep and treed off a Hot Track and we found the Coon and came on Home. It was 11:30pm before my Little Buddy crawled into bed with his Mimi. Tired Little Coon Hunting Buddy. Tired Pawpaw too, Good Hunting!

Sinker Cypress

WE got back to cutting the Huge Sinker Cypress Logs today. I pulled this Sinker almost 5 years ago and cut all the logs out of it except the 3 biggest ones. Snow helped me a while back cut one of them and since then I haven't been in the mood because of my back trouble. But I told Beverly a few days ago that the Battle with the Beast wasn't over until I manned up and finished cutting the last 2 logs. Had a Good Friend tell me last night, he said, " Steve, have you thought that some of this stuff you doing you going to have to stop doing, lol ?!! I said yes sir I know but there are just a few things I have to do and get finished with or it will bother me forever. So today I finished Chainsaw Milling this 45" Monster to where I could put it on my Wood Mizer Saw Mill and finish it off. Tomorrow I will get it all stacked with spacers for air drying. Only one log left and it's the True Beast. Over 5 feet tall on the big end. Next week I will drink a Monster Energy Drink and see if I cant finish what I started 5 years ago. I been hunting Bo some to and treeing Coon. Next week 2 litters of pups will be born that I have High Hopes for. Can't wait until they are weaned and Mason and I can go get them and bring them home to the Bogue Chitto River. Their names will be, BO X ANN female, Bogue Chitto Blue Rose. The Bob X Sheba female, Bogue Chitto Blue Kat.

SINKER CYPRESS

Thanks Heikki! When I pulled this Sinker out of the River 5 years ago I didn't feel like I feel now, I felt a LOT BETTER, lol! But there were 3 logs out of that Beast that was to big for my Wood-Mizer Sawmill so they have just been laying in the shop yard. I bought the Chainsaw Mill just over a year ago just for cutting up these 3 huge logs. Well, 2 of them are cut and only the Biggest remains. I am sure hurting this morning but going to push myself to get on over to the shop and get that lumber stacked for Air Drying. Then I'm going to fish, hunt and probably Canoe the River with Beverly and Mason on Saturday. Rest up then tackle the Big One next week. It will be some Super Fine Table Tops come out of it. Hope all is well with you and Bolt, Take Care.

BO The Water Wonder Dog

Sleepy came for a hunt tonight and we took Bo to Bo's Bottom and cut him from the top of Hog Back Ridge. He was soon over 600 yards deep and was in a place I knew had a lot of water. Wasn't worried about Ole Bo, the Water Champion that he is cause he can sure handle it! He opened a few times but I could tell it was going to be a tough one and soon he drifted out and got going and treed at 730 yards. He was treed on a huge vine that went up a bit then split into 2 vines with one going into a Big Turkey Pine and the other going into a Big Water Oak. Couldn't shine either one because of the young thick stuff around so we pulled him off and came on home because Sleepy has to work tomorrow. I see there's a Fresh Crop of Threads around that are bashing on other folks hounds again. And I doubt the ones doing the Bashing have hunted with the dog they hinting and joking about that ain't worth feeding. Well just for the record and in case it EVER happens to be MY HOUND the C. S. is talking about, me and my hound are available to hunt most ANY NIGHT ANY BODY wants to see him go. And if you want to bring some SUPER HOUND and try to show him up then bring a pocket full of money and we will hit the swamps. For every coon your great hound trees first ahead of Ole Bo and we see it then that's 100 Bucks to you. And the same goes for Bo treeing it first, I get the 100 Bucks. If you say you see the coon but I don't then I will hand you the rifle so you can show him to me and vise versa. We will hunt all night, every night until one of us is broke or HAD ENOUGH. Don't have much for a man that runs his mouth on a thread hinting and taking jabs at some body or some dog they ain't man enough to Call Out. Whether it's mine or someone I never heard of makes no difference. Guess that makes them feel like the Big, Bad Bull of the Woods. Who knows why they do it. Like they the Expert on everything wrapped in a Blue Hide and the rest of us shouldn't breed or even feed what we got in our pens. BRING IT.

Hows the back? After milling them huge logs, I'm glad to see you can still make it to the woods. Ole Sleepy must be just about standing on his head, without any thing to hunt.

NO TIME FOR BACK TROUBLE

Tommy I had 9 days in a row that I felt pretty good and that was All of last week when I was cutting and stacking Sinker Cypress but was down pretty bad Saturday and Sunday. Sleepy has something to hunt now, Pac Man! A son off Bo and Stormy. Good Looking Rascal that I bet Sleepy will have a lot of fun with while we wait on BO X ANN pups to get big enough to hit the woods. Glad to hear Donald is back home, give him my best wishes, Take Care. Pictures are Sinker Cypress I got yesterday. we found the long 60' Sinker Tree last week upriver from the house laying in a low spot about 70' from the Rivers Edge. It's a few shallow spots I knew would be hard to get through hooked to those logs when the River was Low like it has been. Well, the Good Lord sent a 2" Rain Sunday and the River was up almost a foot yesterday. Perfect for bringing Logs down the River to the house with my Jet Boat. So yesterday morning I was busy attaching the GULL WINGS I had built years ago to the boat for Logging the River. In 6 hours I went upriver, cut the Sinker into 7 cuts 8' 6" long, brought them to the house and winched them up the bank into the yard. It was Hard work but Smooth Sailing.

ANN and BO PUPS ARE HERE!!

Ann had her Bo pups yesterday evening and last count Sleepy thinks there is 12 pups around Mama Dog. Hard to count with them moving around and not wanting to disturb them. He will get a accurate count over the next few days. Proud to see these little fellows come into the world!

SINKER CYPRESS

We slabbed the Huge Sinker Log that I have left to cut today. And we cut the first 3" thick Table Top off it over 3 feet wide. The next Table Top will be over 4 feet wide as you can see by the picture. The first one was fine as you will ever see with not a crack anywhere in the wood. Very hard to get one this size without stress cracks in it. The cracks are caused by living for 1,000 years swaying in the wind of many many serious Storms over Her Life. This is the last huge one I will ever cut. When I finish it next week there will be a sense of Pride, Joy and Accomplishment but also some sadness knowing finding another Giant of the River Bottom like this in my Lifetime is probably Slim to None but also if I did I don't think my body could handle the Physical Challenge of Taking it from the River. I have several of these Table Tops spoke for and I will be keeping one myself to make a Trestle Table out of. To be passed down from one generation to the next and the next. Every man should leave something behind that he created with his on two hands. I will leave behind a Sinker Cypress Table built from the wood of a Giant Cypress that quite possibly was just a Seedling when Jesus walked this Earth.

Nice looking litter of pups!!! I think you are going to make some people happy with those. Good luck with them.

PUPS

Thanks Scott. Hope all is well up your way and your having fun with Tramp and Creek. Sorry for your loss of Hammerhead. It hurts when we lose our Hounds. Ann had 12 pups, ALL FEMALES except one and the male was the first to die. He's lost several more and she's down to 7 now. She has great milk and Sleepy says plenty of it but we had a COOL SNAP with temps down to upper 40's the past few nights. I feel like the Cool air got to them maybe but whatever it is sure hate losing that many that soon but it happens. Sheba had her Bob pups Monday and had 10 but she labored a long time Mr. Jack said and all of them died but 1 male. I was planning on a female pup from that litter being the one I breed to Bo a few years down the road if she worked out. So now I will only have a female Off Bo to work with if they make it and the male off Bob. When you breed Creek to Tramp put me on the list for a female pup if they aren't already booked up. Would like one of those to cross on Bo way down the road one day. Should be a Great Cross of Tramp and Creek with some nice ones in the litter. Crossing one of those back on Bo would be something I would like to do one day. Thanks and Take Care.

BO and BOARDS

Picture of BO in the River getting his swim and bath today. Chain Sawmilled some more SINKER CYPRESS TABLE TOPS out of that Huge Log today and they are sure FINE! The one I have my hands on under the Shop is 51" Wide. Super Fine and No Bad Stress Cracks. The picture where I'm by the log holding the tape measure we cut that one to and it's 53" Wide! It has a couple stress cracks but still a fine solid table top. A couple are headed to the Gulf Coast and I'm keeping a couple and have interest in any that's left by several people. Should finish that Log on Thursday and will see then how many table tops it cuts out and the Quality of each one.

BACK TO HUNTING REGULAR

Thanks Tommy. It's been a Long time coming but we finished the LAST BIG SINKER LOG TODAY. Without Beverly giving me a hand I would still have it to do but it is DONE. Wore out and Back Muscle Spasms Bad but a couple days of taking it easy on the River will fix me right up. Now it's back to a more Normal kind of day like cutting grass, swimming, fishing and hunting BO. Looking forward to getting back in the Swamps every night.
