Looking up...

Those are good pictures Buck...it sure is good to see Hernie on the wood again. She looks good and I'll bet she was happy as heck to be there.

These are days to remember after a period filled with days to forget...I like these kinds of days better...eh?

We're supposed to get up to 93 on Thursday and then by Sunday the high for the day will be 69 or so and lows in the fourtys...I like the cooler weather best of all and it looks like we're closing in on fall more and more every day.

when we got home from hunting she did not wont to get out of the truck. I feed her after hunting and today she had not touched it. When I called her it took about two min to get out of the dog house. To the house I go get two baby aspirin and gave Hurnie. A few hrs later when I get back home the food get's dumped. Getting fresh food + a can of dog food she was back to her self.

It was one of those thing's ...here we go again but, she was just tired and sore.

A Late Drop!!

Being a glutton for punishment....I decided to load up Haze, Moose and Ginnie, a female out of Haze and Missy. I left the house at about 1:45am. It was nice out because the dew had fallen and it had cooled off nicely. Here are the dogs with the meat!!

A very nice pic of Haze

A Father - Daughter candid.

Moose and Ginnie

A couple of just Ginnie

Ginnie is a grandpup of Rabble Rouser on the top side and is outlaw bred on the bottom side. She is a nice prospect. She has a few little kinks to work out and she'll be on her way I believe.

Nice pictures

I see you have a new prospect in the picture...eh? It's good to see them light up when given the chance...you gotta love it!

Good luck at Oaks to you and the rest that are heading down tomorrow some time. I hope the weather is good during the day for visiting and cool at night for hunting. We'll be thinking of you guys and wishing you and all the Redbone folks good luck and a good time.

Here are a couple more pups that I am excited about Tom. My pictures are not as good as Mikes but I get more excited each time we go to the woods.
Dark Timber Chicken Foot on the right and Joe on the left.

This is Joe on the tree. He is getting better each night out.

Joe

It's good to see him click Jason, he's got the goods and once it kicks in, he should be real good. It's hard to remember that they're so young, seems like they've been around forever...eh?

Nice pictures...Mike is a professional picture taker but you're not so far behind Now...we all have a ways to go to catch up to Buck's masterful technique...but it gives us all something to shoort for.

It's in the 90s today but supposed to be low 70s by the weekend and low 40s a couple of mornings so it's feeling more and more like the good season and I can't hardly wait.

Pups

Me and Bret cut the Rabble grand pups loose the other night in the dry heat. Bret's pup badger is out of Moose and my pup Will is out of Yank. Both of these pups have been running and treeing own coon for several months now. Here is a quick video of Will he had a mom and 2 kittens sitting at the top, Bret has some pictures on his camera but don't think he knows how to post them. It was about 99 degrees and he had been treed a lil bit before we got to him. if you look close you can see the sow sitting up in the fork. Click on picture to watch video.

Pictures

I got some pictures from Bret and Mat the other day. They are of Will and Badger on the wood.

These are a couple of nice young dogs that will make for a lot of fun this fall and winter.

Badger is by way of Moose and Leinie and Will is by way of Yank and Angel. Both litters are doing well overall and I'd bet that these two young dogs will be treeing some coons for these guys at around a year and a half of age this fall and winter. Both Mat and Bret have done a lot of good work with these pups. This will be their first coon season coming up this fall so considering they started with green pups last spring, they have made really good progress with a couple of nice prospects.

Nice work guys, it won't be long and you'll be reaping the benefits for your good efforts.

Saturday night

Dave came out last night and took Bo and Griz for a drop. He had a good outing but got into some real nasty stuff...hard on the dogs and hard on him.

The dogs worked hard and got treed and Dave got some nice shots.

Bo & Griz...

Griz...lookin' good...on the wood...

Bo...lookin' good...on the wood...

We've got some real nice places to hunt with big sections of hard woods, corn fields and creek bottoms. Most times, the dogs end up where you want them to...sometimes they don't. This was a tough go, thick, blown over timber and heavy blackberry brush. The dogs aren't in top shape yet but a few more nights going through that kind of stuff and they will be.

Dave got some real nice shots even though it was tough to get around the tree.

I spent yesterday making apple jelly with the grand kids...it rained most of the day so it was a good time to do it. Should have enough to last through the fall and into winter...nothing better than apple jelly on bread along side wild game....

Today it started off in the mid 50s and it's not warming up much throughout the day...it's going to get down to near 40 tonight and the next couple of nights...and it feels good! Gotta love it...eh?

This cool spell is heading east so take heart out that way, it's gonna cool off some.

Death Row Clyde

Hey Tom,

I haven't taken the camera out with me in some time so I grabbed it tonight and cut Clyde loose. Here are a couple of shots of him on the wood. Let me preface these shots by saying that it is bone dry down here. The last time we had consecutive days of rain has to be back in June. My creeks are all dried up but for a few spring fed puddles. The dog literally had dust on the bridge of his nose when I got to him.

I have been hunting him alone mostly. He gets a den or coon just about every time. He has to do it his way though. Completely independent. I am hoping with a decent hide season, he will be ready for some competition next spring. But mostly he is turning into a nice, solid hound that doesn't do a whole lot to irritate me.

I think this Yank x Angel cross is proving out to be a good one. Talk to you later.

Posted by topdog on 09-07-2011 12:46 PM:

Clyde

And he's a good lookin' cuss too Chris...I don't think I've seen him since a pup, he's grown into a nice hound.

The Yank and Angel cross was a good one, I wish I had tried it sooner but...that's the way it goes, we do what we can and take what we get...eh? Ace is a brother to him and there are a few more that are putting it together on track and tree. There is a full brother to Clyde in Arkansas that is starting to do some good work in very tough conditions also I might add. Yank and Angel produced two litters and I can remember the individual pups in both litters...and that's unusual for me. I liked their attitudes from young on, they were always willing to get out and about even when they were very little. Based off what Ace has done with reproducing some nice pups, I'd say the mix is right to be able to reproduce for the future also so hopefully Clyde can help keep you in dogs for a long time to come.

The "not doing much to irritate me" part is a big deal Chris...if we can stand them, we'll probably keep them around long enough to see what they turn into...eh? I don't mind a dog being independent, they usually learn to be more social at some point but it's OK to be that way too, especially after they mature and learn to find their own coon on every drop...good stuff. Based off what Aaron says, his female mate to Clyde is pretty much the same way. Is Clyde from the first litter or second? He wouldn't be 2 yet if from the second and just over 2 if from the first. I guess it doesn't matter much but in both cases, they were willing to put it together pretty much on their own and started pretty early so a good cross indeed.

Did you get a female pup from Sid and Griz?

Clyde

Tom,

He is from the first litter. He is a littermate to Dave W.'s dog. I hope that he can produce the same way. He is a little over two and started treeing his own coon at about a year.

Aarons female from this cross is from the younger cross and she has been doing good too from what I have seen. She does also carry that independent streak. It's okay with me if a dog keeps that. When you hunt alone most of the time, you get anti-social. lol.

The lack of "irritation factor" with this or any dog is huge with me. Some guys don't care one way or the other, but I sure do. The thing about your line that I like is the consistency. I know what I'm going to get every time and the calm demeanor is one of those traits I can count on.

I got a female from Sid and Griz. I love her to death. She is working over these barn cats and running loose on the farm.

I'd like to know more about this Bo dog. He looks as though he might have a cannon of a mouth. Good to see ol Griz up on the wood too. Pet him up once for me. I like that ol hound.

Posted by topdog on 09-09-2011 07:57 PM:

Clyde

Thanks Chris, I was kind of thinking that way but I lose track. Bo is a nice hound, he reminds me of ol' Rabble Rouser the most of just about any that I've been able to get close too as far as disposition goes. He has a great expression, goes good, opens enough on track and has a good locate and tree bark and a really nice mouth.

We are going to get close to our first frost about mid week next week and once that hits, I'm going to do justice to ol' Bo and hopefully get him into several hunts over the next month and a half.

It has to be one of the worst years I can remember for undergrowth, it's thick as hair in the woods and I don't much like that. I have a hard enough time walking on level ground, with my knees the way they are but when the ground cover is so thick that you can't see where you're putting your feet...it kind of scares me out...I'll take frozen ground and no leaves any day...any time...

Anyway, I wish I had figured out that Yank and Angel would work the way it did before I did but, like I said, things happen for a reason and I'm OK with how things turned out.

Hope to get out this weekend for a drop or two...we'll see how it goes.

Fired JJ the gimp up for a drop. Another bean field chase. took her a while but she finally put mr. kit up. She's still has a slight limp from her escape last week. So I shut her down. She's almost in peak shape. She'll be ready for her 4th hyde season.
Need sleep.

He's a great looking young hound Carl, I'll bet there will be lots of good times ahead for you both.

Collide sure puts some good looks in his pups and it seems like it was a good mix with him and Chance. Rebel was a real good lookin' hound in his day so some good dogs in his foundation from Red Fever to Outlaw to T-Top...real nice looking mix.

Hey Tom

I witness Gr Nt Champion, CH Long Tall Sally get a win towards her Gr Ch degree this weekend...Not bad at her age and considering Buck was showing her...LOL

Sally

You said a mouthful there Dave...the part about Buck showing her

It would be great to see the ol' gal get the Dual Gr. Ch. title, she's been a good one for a long time and has produced some good ones for sure.

I heard from a friend this week that has a Grand pup to Sally and ol' Rabble Rouser, out of Moose and Leinie. He said his male pup is starting to come on and show some promise with or without company, so her influence is still showing up even a generation or two away from her.

Frost yesterday morning and cool this morning...Fall is right around the corner...eh? All the beans and corn are pretty much done and the colors are changing. The underbrush is starting to thin and won't be long we'll be able to see where we put our feet on the ground...it's a great time of the year.

T-Top females

Adam put some pictures up on another post and I just wanted to add them here as part of this ongoing update of new generations of hounds with deep T-Top roots.

This is Amber and Bella...

Adam has been telling me about these two females for awhile now. Both are very young so what seems like a long time...can't have been that long. It's a sure sign that both started early and are continuing to learn their business and get better all the time.

Good luck with them Adam, I'd bet we'll hear about them for a long time to come.

Nice pictures Carl, it's time to get them in shape for the fall season. It doesn't seem like it should be that time of the year yet but it's only a month away.

We had a good frost the other morning and I can see some of the underbrush already turing brown and starting to wilt. The beans and corn are all brown and done for the season and lots of acres are already chopped off and going in the bags or silo...Fall is here for sure.

It won't be long and the dogs will know that the hunting is for keeps...and they'll show it in the woods. I love this cooler weather, it just gives a guy a new outlook on things...
