HUNTING

Thanks Dave and Dennis. Yea, the board is real slow these days but I hope to have my thread updating pretty regular very soon. Me and Bo starting to get in shape and ready for the Fall. The rain they had forecast for us did Not happen so its drying out some and we need it to. Rainy'est summer I ever seen. Dave I have been wanting to come to Autumn Oaks for years and have never made it. Not planning on coming this year but you never know, things could change and if so I would hit the road. These pups are going to have me busy soon getting them broke to lead and learning what a coon is. Blue has one heck of a mouth on him. Love to hear that pup bawling out when I'm heading out their way to cut them loose. Hope all is well with you guys and yaw keeping them in the woods, Take Care.

Tim Stone was over for a hunt. Tim has a male that goes back to Cory Mailes Pete and a Flo x Boomer pup. We ran a couple hard runners in the corn. Treed one & put one in a hole. They had ran it several miles in the corn. Irene & Sadie got deep and treed one. Garmin had them 1.28 miles from where we sent them into a corn field. It was a beautiful night and 60 degrees.

Still Here

Me and the Pups are still making Waves on the River. Even found time to pull a 65 foot Sinker Cypress the other day and already Saw Milled it up and got it Stacked. Me and Bo doing a little hunting as the Rain Permits. Wishing the Rain would quit for a couple weeks so the River would get down to normal low and I could Winch a couple more I got my eye on and me and Bo could get serious about getting back in shape. Lot to tell on the 3 Pups but no time right now so that will have to wait. Until then, Good Hunting!

BO and MASON and Time

4 Years ago today began a Journey I thought I would never take again. I had been out of Coon Hunting and Bluetick Hounds for 8 years. Around the time Katrina hit and blew down a lot of trees and made such a mess I had hung it up I thought for good. Then Mason came along and started becoming a Woods and River Rat like me so I decided we needed a Bluetick Pup for him to grow up with here along the Bogue Chitto River. I got on the computer and Googled up Bluetick Pups and an ad came up on Coon Dawgs.com that had a litter of pups for sale and each one had their picture took on the tailgate of a truck. And every one had their tail Drooped down except one pup. He had that tail curled up over his back looking Proud of himself and like he had plenty Attitude to go with the Pride. I told Beverly right then if that pup was still available we would be making a trip to Fayetteville Arkansas to pick him up. Sure enough, he was still for sale. It was a long ride from here to Mr. Phil Davis to pick our Pup up but we made it and Mason didn't complain the first time and he was just 2 years old. We named that Pup Mr. Bojangles and we call him BO. These pictures tell it all, True Happiness that Pup brought to a young Boy and an Old Man and filled their Hearts with Love and Dreams. Dreams of one day seeing that pup turn into a Hound that could tree Coons and make them Proud. Bo has done all those things and more. He won his cast last year at Bluetick Days and was Runner up in the Senior Division of Young Guns Shootout. One of the hounds in that cast Bo won went on to finish in the Top 10 of the UKC WORLD HUNT last year. I have hauled him 15 hours in the dog box and took my Mom and Dad through Mammoth Cave in Kentucky then on to Indiana where BO didn't get long to stretch his legs before it was dark and we took him hunting. Pulled into a field lane that had picked Beans on the left and some standing corn on the right then a big area of picked corn field on to the woods line. When we pulled in 2 bucks were trying to fight and the field was full of other Deer. Stopped the truck and cut Bo. He was 2 years old and Never been cut loose out in the middle of a field. He took off to the left, swung back by us through the standing corn then lined out to the left across the field and into the woods where he fell treed with a Big Fat Indiana Coon. He treed 3 times quick in that patch of woods and we looked at 2 coon. After riding all that way and Never being anywhere near that part of the Country. He ain't perfect but I'm sure Proud of him and wouldn't take a Million Dollars for the Memories Mason and I have with our Favorite Hound these past 4 years.

BO

BO did a Fantastic Job on this Coon tonight in Bo's Bottom. Struck at 251yds on a small Creek and trailed away from the Swamp into an old overgrown Field then through some 20 year old pines, across the little county road and down into the thickest Hollow you will ever want to crawl into. Privet Hedge, Saw Briars, Tung Oil trees and a few big oaks. He was treed on one of the Big Oaks loaded with Muscadine Vines and they were all over the ground. The ripe ones had already had the good sucked out of them. I chopped down some privet hedge to make a hole to shine from then hit my Sinker Cypress Call and he lit up the top with his eyes. I popped off 3 rounds in his direction and down he came minus an eye. Bo is fat and out of shape and he was hot so we crawled the 130 yards back up the hill to the Rhino and the Cool Water. I brought the Coon with me and will have some fun in the morning at daylight with the pups. BO trailed that coon close to half a mile and really looked good. we just have to get about 8 pounds off him by swimming and hunting. By the end of September we will be clicking pretty good I believe. I had a friend from up North that was down here hunting one night about 2 years ago and his hound got off in that same Thick Hollow. He tried to go in there and catch the dog and didn't make it 50 feet off the road and came back saying it was a solid wall of Hell on Earth, lol! A few minutes later his Hound came out and jumped on the back of my 4 wheeler. So happy he made it out of that thicket he was smiling! He said that was the First time he had ever seen that hound come back from being cut without taking him off a tree. I told him that was my Best Spot to Hunt, it got worse everywhere else, lol! He left the next morning headed home a couple days early and I ain't seen him since. Missed a good Quail Hunt he left so Fast, Lol!! Me and Mr. Jack have us a good chuckle when we talk about me telling him that was my Best Spot to Hunt!! AHHH, The Friends we Make and the Friends we Run Off in this Sport of Coon hunting, Lol. I'm still Bleeding from that Hollow as I type this. It was BAD!

TREE BLUE!!!

Laid the drag with the Coon this morning and cut the Pups loose on it. Blue hooked to the trail and fell Treed like a Pro while the Girls smelled around then wanted to play and tussel with Blue and he would shake them off and go back to treeing. I went and put them up while Blue stayed hooked the whole time. Love to see the Whites of their eyes because you know they bred right and IN THE ZONE. Hate to trip his switch at only 3 months old but I could tell by the signs I seen lately as he ran the woods that he was ready for a New Game. BO won't hardly get back in shape good this Fall and Winter, then the Swamps will be Echoing with the Sound of, " TREE BLUE !!!"

BATH DAY

Yesterday was Bath Day on the River for ALL DOGS, including Me. After a big swim and his Bath, Bo spent the rest of his time Rolling in the Sand with the Pups. Look at the Happiness on his Face. He's still just a Big Ole Pup at Heart Himself. Won't find a better Male Dog that gets along with Pups the way BO does. Loves them to Death.

MARRIED.... ONCE AGAIN

August 29th of 2007 Beverly and I had got married on the Beach in FT. WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA. Well, this past Tuesday, August 29th, 2017, 10 years later, we did it again, but this time it was on the Sandy Bank of the Bogue Chitto River here at the house. We had our close Family here so it was a small wedding but a Happy One. The next day was my Birthday, along with Mr. Jack's and Sheba 11. Mine was a sad one because before daylight that morning my Mom called to say her Brother had passed away that morning early. My Uncle and I were Very Close all my life and as a Teenager I tromped through the woods from our house to his Many times killing Deer and Turkey along the way. He got me into Surveying when I was 20 years old when he hired me as a Green Rodman that didn't know a thing about Surveying. 2 weeks after he hired me a Horse threw me and broke my Wrist, so he had a Green Rodman in a Cast. He enjoyed many a Crawfish Boil here at the house and came fishing often. We went to Canada hunting work once, and when we got there we mailed Home a couple of Post Cards. We Beat the Post Cards Home, lol. Canada was NO PLACE for the Mississippi Boys. Skeeters Big as Hummingbirds. Don't ever let anyone tell you that Cold Weather kills Skeeters. Ticks and Fleas because it don't. Canada got plenty of them. Many memories with my Uncle and I was Honored to be a Pallbearer at his Funeral Saturday. He was 78, may he REST IN PEACE.

Bo and I have done a little hunting and it will kick into high gear this week. We are drying out a little and cool weather is on the way. Time to get tuned up for our Illinois Trip at the end of October.

HUNTING

The Weather has been dry and the River is down and clear. Mason and Blue Loving it and racing one another fetching sticks that I throw in the River. Blue wins every time. It has Cooled off especially at night and BO and I are hunting pretty regular. River is down but I found out the other night the Swamp still has Plenty water in it. Bo treed out in a Beaver Pond on one little spot above water and it took me 3 attempts before I found a spot that wouldn't go over my waders. He had several up a pine tree and I put the lowest one down to him. Been swimming him some to trying to whip him in shape. Got done Saw Milling this week here at the house and put the Saw Mill back in the shop. It's Fishing and Hunting time now.

BO and ROSE

BO and ROSE, Father and Daughter, coming back to the Sandbar after a Swim. When I wade out in the deeper swift water with BO to swim him against the current a while, Rose has to come to. Took Blue by himself to Black Branch Swamp today and Introduced him to the place where he will be spending a lot of his time in the future. Baited up a few spots to get some Coon coming around regular. Couple more months we will see what these pups have on their mind.

PUPS

Thanks Sleepy. Love these pups, all 3 of them. They all love me back and the bond is strong. They love to please and learning quick. Blue is jumping in the back of the Rhino already and broke to lead. In the Swamp today filling up the feeders I had him with me. Only his 2nd trip to Black Branch Swamp and he had his nose in the Coon Tracks in the Mud along the creek and he was whining and raring up checking trees in the area. He's going to be Fun. The Girls are going to be more winding type hounds like their Daddy and probably Drifters if the Track is bad. Liking the actions and personalities of all 3 a LOT. 2 more months and we will start having Fun. Blue is ready Now but I'm going to make myself wait and let him grow and mature the extra 2 months. Also it will be a lot cooler and Snakes won't be out as bad. Don't need him overheating on his first tree or getting snake bit so young. Bo is under the weather and has been given a few nights off. Got him on Antibiotics and he should be good to go by Friday night.

Pups

Sounds like you are already having a lot of fun with those pups. Wish you the best with all three of them. They are all good looking pups.

BLUE

Thanks MR. Jack. Blue is going to be a Lot of Fun, he's got me excited and the months won't go by quick enough for him to get old enough to start him rollin. The Girls are nice pups also and I feel will do fine but Blue is Extra Special. I feel it and see it. A friend that lives in town had Coons getting his Chickens so he went to trapping and killing them. Time I heard about it he had already caught and killed 4. I told him to call me when he catches them and I would come get them and bring them to the River and Swamp and cut them loose. He called yesterday morning and said he had one so I went and got it. Yesterday evening I cut it loose and drove back home and we got Blue and went back that way. I was in such a hurry to cut him loose I forgot to pour a little water on him so he would give off more scent. It has been very dry the past 4 weeks so Blue didn't have a lot to go on. He came across that track and boy did he get after it. Squealing, Squalling and Bawling, lol! He was so excited from that scent he didn't know what kind of mouth to give! He located on a Big Oak, sniffed it over good then moved 50 feet and located on a medium oak that had some lean to it and went up against a Turkey Pine. Blue crawled up on it and went to treeing. I got a little video but Photobucket is such a pain I'm not fooling with it to put it on here. Got it on Facebook. I'm going to wait a couple more months before I start taking him out at night by himself around feeders but that pup wants to Go Now! Not even 5 months old yet. Love it. Looking like a Great Choice you made breeding to Bob with Sheba while he was down here. He has a Horn on him on that tree and looking for it to get even louder. You know I'm Chomping and Slobbering at the Mouth waiting on him to be about 10 or 12 months old, lol! Take Care and give me a call, let's cut them loose somewhere.

She was Mr. Franks last coonhound before he got out of coon hunting. I'm proud to add her to my kennel. She has a big bawl mouth and I'm looking forward to hearing her under a coon. Friday night is the plan to cut the ole girl and see if she can teach Bo any tricks! Didn't hunt the last couple nights as I have been bowed up at work but got it under control and will be back after them tomorrow night after this 20 degree weather gets out of here.

She had been at Terry's since March of 2016 trying to get a litter of pups out of her but it didn't work out. Thanks to Terry and his Family for taking such good care of her, Loving Her and Hunting Her. She was Mr. Franks Last Coonhound and he kept her around for a while after hanging up his light but then sold her to some guys in Wisconsin so she could do what she loved, Tree Coons. I bought her from them and got the Litter off Her and BO 2 years ago September 10th. There are several real nice hounds from that cross that are making their owners proud. Good-Bye for now Ole Girl. Stay Treed and I will get to you eventually and Rub your head for a Job and Life Well Done.

Fun summer playing with the pups along the River then the work will start in the Fall watching them develop into Cooner's.

Heikki, I sent you a PM back, Thanks.

CONGRATS to SLEEPY and Ann!!!! She was Queen of Hunt at the Fall Roundup this weekend. I know Sleepy is some kind of Proud and I'm Proud for Him and Ann. Sleepy puts in the effort on his Hounds by hunting Year Around no matter how Hot it gets or how bad the Snakes and Gators get. Then he loads up and GOES TO TOWN!! Congrats Again Sleepy!!!

Bojangles

One heck of a mouth and treedog deluxe with the meat. Maybe Sleepy can get him in a few hunts if you decide to let him. Very nice hound you got there sir.
Ann speaks for herself as well. I was sold on her after my first night ever in the woods with her. Very very nice loud female.
