Orange is such a "slimming" color. Buck looks like he has lost 20 lbs!
Just in time...
Don't be too hard on him...he about wore himself out chasing those dogs
They left just in time I think...I was in the woods blocking up some wood and it started raining...then sleeting...and then snowing for good measure. It didn't last long...just long enough to get me wet and make the road slick so I barely made it out with the 4-wheel drive tractor. I got a lot of wood down and blocked up and I still have a few more days of vacation time to get it hauled in so we can split it and pile it. Tomorrow morning is supposed to be around 30 and down to about 28 on Saturday morning so should be great days to cut and haul.
We'll be back at it over the next few days and hopefully this rain we got will help the tracking. We've been getting coons treed but the dogs seem to work awful hard when they get way up on those side hills with all those dry leaves piled deep.
I heard from the guys while on the road and they should be darned near home by now. It was an uneventful trip...except for when they had to drag Buck away from lunch Other than that, it sounded like a good trip home.
More to come.

Trip...
It was great having you guys here again this fall, we always have a good time and tree plenty of coons in the process.
I've been in the woods steady since you guys left so kind of worn out but Dave came out last night to load up the dogs...I'll see what he got accomplished in a little while when I go out to do the chores.
I'll be back in the woods again this morning...it's a great day with the sun shining over the eastern horizon and a heavy coat of frost on the ground...the leaves are still alive with color and the air has that fresh fall smell that can't be duplicated. I feel so blessed to be alive another day and to see it and enjoy it for another year.
I'll miss you all but we'll stay in touch the rest of the fall and see how the rest of the season progresses.

Last night
Dave must have taken Griz and Gun last night...they both looked road hard and put up wet this morning. Two nice coons on the bench, one big sow and a medium boar. The color is good and guard hairs are getting longer so prime isn't so far away.
I was in the woods all day...my butt is draggin'.

Look's like the hunting up at your place paid off again. Andy put another 1st on Chick last night. NITECH RATLIFF'S DARK TIMBER CHICKEN FOOT. Now on to the next step, as you tell me, just stick to the plan.

Possibilities
There are all kinds of ways to make the plan work...I've got some nice young hounds up here that have yet to prove themselves but by all indications, they are going to be tough and will represent the 5th generation of T-Top hounds that will have what it takes to put hides in the freezer and trophies on the shelf. I'm excited about the future and look forward to seeing some of these crosses play out.
Don't forget that there have also been some very nice outcrosses that have happened, putting some T-Top and Kate blood together...those pups are small yet but they sure have the potential to make a mark, considering the long winning tradition of Kate and some of the dogs out of her.
Good stuff! More to come!

Hunting
Dave has been hunting pretty regular and has done good every time out so far. There were a couple of coons to be skinned the other night and last night, I see there were two more laying out in the kennel. One of the coons he got last night was a sow...and I mean a real sow...she weighed in at 29 pounds and that's a big ol' coon for a female.
The season is still nice as far as the weather goes although we did have some rain today. It's going to stay nice for a few days during the day but down below freezing most nights...it's about what we'd call normal.
Gun has been getting a lot of work along with Griz and they must be doing their job considering that there's always a couple of coons sitting there waiting for me. I know that he hasn't been spending all night out there...he's usually gone by around 7:30 PM and back home by 10:00 PM or so.
Looking forward to the rest of the season and will update with some new pictures now and then. I hope everyone is enjoying the season like we are and that those Red dogs are getting it done.

Dozer
I had a nice visit with Dave G. this evening, he called to give me an update on Dozer.
He's very happy with Dozer and says that the switch has tripped for him. He is treeing coons with Dozer every time out now and he's doing it all alone and is willing to get alone even with other dogs along.
Dozer is out of Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Dark Timber Moose and Nt. Ch. PR Brown's Leinie Red Ryder, which is a half brother/half sister cross going back to Dual Gr. Ch. PR T-Top Rabble Rouser, Gr. Nt. Ch. PR Long Tall Sally, Little Zach, Bomber, Bell, Rusty, Rocky and many more top hounds.
Every dog in this litter is treeing coons alone or with company at a year and a half old so it was a good cross bound together by outstanding bloodlines.
Dozer...
He looks like his daddy in a lot of ways, he has a great mouth and seems to have put it together fast since he got the urge to do so.
Dave has done a nice job with him, just waiting him out and giving him opportunities to learn his business...it looks like all that is going to pay off big time...can't get much better than that...eh?

New look
I like that new look there Buck...it's got kind of a certain something about it
Dave rounded up two more last night again and just headed out again tonight. He has been rotating Griz and Yank but Gun goes every time out and is holding his own. He's striking good, doing his part on track, locating and treeing hard so not much more a guy can ask from a 17 month old pup.
I'll try and get at it tomorrow night...but got a lot of wood to get in this weekend and still not fully recovered from last week...
Got a call from a friend who is putting EZ in the woods for me...first night out, she lit up on track with the other dog, hit the tree first and treed hard start to finish...and what a mouth on her. She has matured a lot over the last few months and has shown that she's ready for steady action so now she's going to get it. Gotta love it when a plan comes together for these youngsters...eh?

Good night
Dave came out to go hunting around 7:30 PM and was back at 10:00 PM. He came to the house to let me know how the night went...
Yank on the left and Gun on the right...
I haven't weighed the coons yet but there are two starting from the left that are going to push 30 pounds if I guess right. The other two are low 20s or so but all are real nice coons.
He treed 7 all together and left 3 in the last tree of the night. Yank laid up a tree full right at the end and both dogs did a real nice job.
It's a pleasure to hunt some nice hounds that get out and get the job done. Gun isn't a finished coonhound yet but at just under a year and a half old, he's got a pretty good foundation of experience under him so far this year.
On Thursday night, it was Griz and Gun putting up a couple of real nice coons so they're getting their reps and it pays off.

Coons
Just a quick update...those 4 coons weighed 28 - 26 - 23 and 18 pounds so I wasn't too far off when I guessed last night.
Good dog work and a nice bunch of coon to show for it...that's good stuff.

Hussler
Tom
Hussler did a good job last night, and got one by his self.
This cross should be made again.
Tim
Cross
Hey Tim...I agree that the cross should be made again, we'll just have to figure out how to get Cherry and Ace together again. I'm still holding out hope that Dave will send Ace to Wisconsin... Probably won't but I can hope...right?
The whole litter was solid from what I've been able to see with good looks, good mouths and lots of desire to get after a coon from a young age.
We'll see what the spring brings but it sure deserves some serious consideration.

Weekend
Aaron came up for a hunt and we had a pretty good night with Sid, Shadow, Yank and Gun...
Yank & Gun
Gun & Sid
Gun & Shadow
Gun
Shadow
We had a good night treeing 5 coons in some really steep and rugged country. Aaron made it to every tree and the boys that we had along did also...I'll have to admit that I didn't...my knees were crying uncle after the first jaunt up into the bluffs.
Shadow is by way of Yank and Angel and showing lots of promise...and good looking to boot.
All the dogs did their part so it was a fun night...we'll see what happens tonight.

On the Wood
Really clear and very nice pics of the dogs, Tom!!
That female, Shadow, looks like she is coming along real well.
Hard at it, for sure.
Another good night
Aaron and I headed out last night without Dave to start out...he was with his family at a basketball tournament for the youngsters.
We took father and daughter to see how they'd hunt together and it was an interesting night for sure...
First drop...Yank struck and then Shadow...Yank treed and then Shadow treed...split...
Yank..
Shadow...
One together...
More to come...

Another good night cont'd
I had more pictures than I wanted to upload all at one time so thought I'd post another to get them all in.
Shadow...
Yank in a mess of a spot...but treed...with the meat...
One here...
One there...
And...what the heck?? Another one over there...
At least one pay day...eh?
Aaron, Dave and Chase and a couple night's work...
The dogs, left to right are Sid, Shadow, Yank and Gun. We had a great time and some good dog work. Seeing young hounds coming on like Shadow and Gun is a real treat for me, they're making the connection and have real good careers in front of them if I guess right.
Over the last few weeks we have been blessed to spend and enjoy time with some good friends from different parts of the country. I can't describe how much it pleases me to know these good people and to share these good times.
We worked hard for lots of years to put this line of hounds together and these folks that we have been so fortunate to know and hunt with, have picked up where we wanted so badly to go and we're happy to see them keep moving some of these crosses forward as well as mixing in some great blood so that we all can see where the future will take us.
Our deer hunting season is upon us in another week and after that...we hope we have a lot of coon season left to go...lots of work, with some real good young prospects, left to do.
I hope you all are enjoying your season as much as we are enjoying ours.
