Blue did a good job tonight, especially since he was with a new handler and woods he had never been in. He treed 2. The first one was in a big Magnolia and you couldn't see up in the tree at all. The second one he treed up this smaller tree in the picture that went into a large oak. The coon was in the top of the oak

Surgery

Surgery went well, lasted 3 hours. But I am Home now and no matter how bad I hurt today I know I'm headed in the right direction and will feel much better soon. Thank You All for the Prayers and Encouragement. It truly means a Lot. Mr. Jack thanks for posting stories of you and Blues hunts. He's just a Baby but I believe he's gonna make us all Proud. I have 6 weeks to go but if all goes well I will be Turned Loose to do what I Love. Looking at maybe trying to make it to Bluetick Days in Iowa in May. Thanks Again.

I went out and fed the cats a little earlier and shined my light over on blues house and he peeped out at me and I could almost hear him say" If this crazy new guy is going to try to take me out in this weather tonight I'm going to go home tomorrow"LOL. Steve I hope you are not hurting too bad. One day next week Or later, just when ever you feel like it let me know and I will drive over and drink a cup of coffee with you. Take care.

Thanks Gary. I hope your having some good hunts up that way. Coon should be Rutting and Running, Take Care.

Picture that Beverly took of Mr. Jack, Me and Blue the other day when we dropped him off. Still Amazes me how much these Hounds grow in such a short time. He turned 8 months old on the 1st. This time next year that Pup should be a Solid, Finished Coon Hound if all goes as I think it will. Going to warm up the end of next week so I know him and Mt. Jack going to have a New Story to Tell.

Is Blue out of Smiling Bob?

BLUE

Hey Dave, yes he is out of Bob and Mr. Jacks Dual Grand Sheba. Only pup that lived and he's got All the Natural Born Tools to be a Great One. Time and Hunting will tell the tale. Hope all is good up there and yaw surviving this Winter. We have for sure had the Cold down here in the Deep South also. Right now its 25 with wind chill of 13 and an inch of Snow on the ground and still Blowing down in buckets. Looks like a White Out when you shine out in it. We Never see weather like this and this is second time this Winter. Be in the 60's by Saturday so looking forward to that. Take Care and hope to meet you at Bluetick Days if you coming.

We booked 2 Cabins Today for Bluetick Days in May. Staying the 16, 17, 18, and 19th at Lacey Keosauqua State Park in Iowa. About 30 minutes from the Fairgrounds where hunt will be held. Its a 1,600 acre park with Cliffs and Valleys and Trails along the Des Moines River. Also has 19 Indian Mounds and a Lake there. 12 Old Town Settlements with Antique Stores and a Indian Artifact Museum. Biggest Amish Settlements in Iowa are very close also. Going to hunt with Mr. Ed a few nights in Illinois I hope before we rest Bo a night then give it a run at Bluetick Days. Looking forward to a complete recovery from my surgery and hitting it hard between now and then. Have already lost 10 pounds on what I'm calling this Cut Throat Diet and I told Beverly I'm sticking to it and want to loose about 30 more. I'm to heavy and if I'm going to enjoy following my Hounds then I need to get this weight off and I'm determined to do it. I booked the extra Cabin hoping to talk a couple more Southern Guys into joining me on this Adventure. I looked all day yesterday and all Cabins in the area along with several motels were already booked up. So when I found these I booked them up. Looks like going to be a big crowd according to that. Looking forward to meeting some of yaw there. Looks like a Beautiful, Historic Area to have a hunt like this. This weather warm up to where Mr. Jack and Blue could get back to hunting 6 nights a week he might just bring Baby Blue and Whoop us All, lol!

Blue

Took Blue out for another run last night after all this cold weather, for an 8 month old pup he sure is impressive. I turned him off an ole woods road last night. He went in and struck a good track. Moved it in about 200 yrds and locked up treed. When he trees you don't have to run to him. He will be there when you get there. He was tree in the tree in the top picture. It was a Hugh Den tree. I didn't find the coon, but I had no doubt that he was there. I don't think I have ever seen the tree instinct so strong in a pup this age. you just about got to drag him 15 to 20 feet off a tree when you get ready to leave and then other than a glance back ever now and then he will come on. The next cast I took him to the river and cast him up an ole slough. He went up it a ways and struck a real cold track. I think he bit off more than he could chew on this one, but he sure give it the effort. He slowly moved it on in another 100 yrds. he bumped one tree and moved on. He got quite for a few minutes and then He opened back closer to me, about 50 yrds up from where he had struck, he moved on up the slough about 50 yrds and treed. I could tell he wasn't really putting his heart into it, but he wasn't going anywhere. I walked in to him and he was treed up the tree in the bottom picture. I didn't see anything and I think he just did the best he could with this one. We called it a night.

R. I. P. Smilin Bob

Mr. Jack thanks so much for hunting Blue and posting the Pedigree and Pictures. I have some Sad News about his Daddy to report. Smilin Bob died yesterday on the Operating Table of Unknown Reason. I had just text Mr. Ed getting together on a trip back up there in February when he told me the news. Ain't going to lie, I shed a few tears. It came as such a shock and I put in some time last year with him even though I was in bad pain. I pushed myself despite the pain for one reason. I saw the great potential of Bob becoming a Super Hound if I could have kept on him. I see that also in Blue, even more so. If I can get my Gears back under me I will not let Blue down like I did Bob though no fault of my on. Just Life and sometimes it knocks you down. I'm back up and getting stronger every day and walking a mile a day and will start increasing that soon. Hoping to hit my stride by March. Video of Bob one last time. R.I.P. my Friend.

Bob

Thanks Bill and Ron. I didn't have any ownership in Bob but he still meant a lot to me and was a type Hound our breed needs. That cross Mr Ed made was a great one for sure. And Mr Jack taking a chance and breeding to Bob was a great cross to but sad we only got Blue from that cross. Ron I will call you soon, Take Care.

Steve sorry about Bob .He sounded like a good one .I enjoyed reading about him . I looked back on your post to the picture of him on bath day at the river He was a fine looking hound . Hope you have a speedy recovery . Take Care Wayne

Bob

Thanks Dave and Wayne. Bob had some good tools to offer the breed but the one that impressed me the most was his nose. Best nose I've ever seen on a hound. I've seen him more than once take a track away from Bo and move it out of there. Bo has a good nose but Bob showed me what having a Super Nose could do with a track. It was so good though it contributed to one of the 2 faults he had. When he was on a good track and pushing it hard, when that coon climbed and the scent was in the air, Bob hooked a tree. He didn't beat around checking it, he locked it down. sometimes he would be off by a tree or 2 because of coming treed so quick. He didn't put his nose on the tree checking for scent. His nose was so powerful he didn't have to do it, so that was where a great nose would get him a minus in a hunt. I Never came into a tree that Bob would be checking over with his nose. The other fault was he bounced at the tree. If hunted regular he didn't bounce much but if laid up he bounced a lot. Not a running jacker up the tree, just bouncing. Other than that I liked everything about him, even his lighter color. He was hard to collar up because he was wound up and wouldn't hold still. Blue is like that too. They don't act it in the Kennel but come hunting time they were wiggle worms. Haven't seen enough from Blue to show he got All of Bobs nose, only time and different tracks will tell, but Blue got enough to make a Coon Hound that's for sure. Hoping he did and that him and my Rose off Bo make top hounds because in a few years I would like to cross them and get me some pups. Right now I got my hands full with those 2 but in a couple years I will be aching for some little ones again I'm sure. Take Care Guys and enjoy those Hounds and treat them good. They are gone to quick.

12 Days and Hunting

12 Days from Neck Surgery removing 2 Disc and Bone Spurs, putting in Blocks and a Titanium Plate, Carpal Tunnel Surgery on my Left Hand, Bo and I are Terrorizing the Coon in the Bogue Chitto River Bottoms Again. I found a local young Man that will handle Bo for me until I get healed up but bad thing is he leaves for Oil Field Work tonight and will be gone 2 weeks. Making calls looking for another Handler. The Neurosurgeon told me he didn't want me doing ANYTHING but WALKING as MUCH AS POSSIBLE. Well, now I'm Walking Day and Night so he should be Proud of Me! We cut BO loose in the Ghost Coons area but nothing stirring close and he was soon over 800 yards away before getting struck. Treed at 972 with this Big Boar that wanted to come down the Tree with the First Blast from my Sinker Cypress Coon Squaller. I hit him on the way down and BO got his reward and I called it a night. Feeling Stronger now than before I had Surgery and for sure not Dizzy or Drunk feeling. It's a Chance something Could happen but he turned me loose to Drive after the first week as long as I wore that neck collar or soft collar. I Trust my Feet in the Woods at night a Lot more than I do other Drivers on the Road. I will take a couple nights off between hunts because I'm not a Fool and sure want to Ease back into it. I'm twice as fast on foot now than I was. Feeling like my old self from years ago. More Stories coming Soon. Thanks again for all the Prayers and Well Wishes, The Good Lord was Listening.
