Been busy busy. Had a rough couple nights at the hunts last weekend. It just wasn't Rose's night Friday night. Her handler couldn't find the coons and then Sat night I was teamed up on. Rose shouldn't have gotten out to such a big lead. OH well. How it goes....but believe me no gray area for them next time. Enough said.
Tom, you need to stick 'em while you can. Sometimes you do not get a second shot at some of those big ones. However, you are in god's country so you probably can possibly wait.
Give Randy some pep. He lost a good dog last night. He will come back a hammerin'!

Take care all
Mark

I wish now we would have bred BELL to CHARLIE and had some pups out of her for Randy, might have taken some of the hurt for him. I've lost a few over the years and it makes you wonder sometimes why you even want to do it . But in a few days you'll be right back at it. Randy lost a really nice pup earlier this year, just a freak accident on him too. I quess we'll make that cross again so Randy can have another little sweet heart. Never can replace those kind but we will try. At least BELL died doing what she loved to do and with somebody that loved her. We have been coon hunting quite a bit this week, between sitting in a stand till dark, getting in the truck and going hunting till midnight, getting up at five and trying to deer hunt again I'm tired.Haven't seen any more bucks yet but they will be back and I have a few gold tips waiting for them. Hear you had a moth fly in your ear, bet that was fun. My pup out of JOKER and KATE suits me just fine. we give the tree rats heck about every morning when I get out of the stand, god I'm going to have to take a little vacation after all this. You take care and I'll SEE YOU ON DOWN THE ROAD TOM

Posted by Pioneer on 09-29-2010 02:50 PM:

I know something will come up for Randy. We can get that cross again or maybe something else might come about.
Sounds like you are having a hell of a fun time! **** that sounds like a blast to me. I've been swamped in the thick of sell season, harvest at home and trying to hunt a little bit. Yields haven't been bad. We are moving right along. I just want it all done in 2 weeks so I can have some fun like you.
Deer have been moving really well around here but the bucks are still laying low. Its going to be nice bowhunting with the corn fields out.
Yeah the whole bug in the ear wasn't a fun one. What is the chances? At least Rose had her coon but all that matters is I didn't get the win! I'm still fumin'....I thought I was over that but guess not.
Got to run
Take care all,
Mark

its dry out....really dry. Hunted prairie ground last night. Boy it was killer. They were all big trees and the 25' creek was bone dry everywhere. I'm gonna have to stick to all my bottom ground to hunt which I have been but I guess I had a "what the hell" thought last night.
Saw lots of deer last night but not what I was after. Opening day of bow season here. I'm gonna wait for the good spots. I know I can go wax a doe anytime. I'm after ol' Pedro this year.

No hunts for me this weekend. Next weekend I got one close.

Take care all

I've been out a few times and my bucks are not around ,should have killed the one when I had a chance. Oh well got plenty of time before rifle seaon. Boater has been doing a good job lately, seems to get buy himself all the time. The pup out of KATE is a nice pup ,likes to tree. The other young dog I was given, well lets just say I figured. Don't know if I should try to break her or use her when rifle season comes around. She would keep them moving for me and everybody else . At least she is learning to track and doing a nice job on them , can't be much oh she crossed a four lane highway three times and didn't get hit,if she was worth anything she would have been killed. Only the good die young. Randy has not called lately, think he is sneaking around trying to buy one of BELL"s sister. Brandon says we will make that cross for Randy again maybe he can find another Bell. Bet it will be hard for Randy to be happy with another dog for awhile but it will happen when he least expects it. Wish we could send you some of our rain ,had plenty. You take care and send me a picture of that big buck when you kill it . TOM

Tom

Yeap those big ones are big for a reason. Well maybe when the rut gets going and something else starts running their brain then you might get one. Rifle season...............cheater. Ha ha ha Actually I wish I could hunt with a rifle and no one else. Cuz if you let all of these crazies around here use a rifle.....I'm locking the doors and headed to Florida cuz they will have houses shot up like swiss cheese around here. they are bad enough with the smoke poles they have.
Yeah I wondered about that other dog. Can't say that it surprises me either.
Ha Ha Ha....Yeah those Kate dogs are tree dogs?!?!?! They are hell on wheels right now.
As for Randy I'm not for sure what he is going to doi. He has got his choices but I know I would be the same way. He will get it figured out. There are always others.
Take care all

the start and beginning of another project. D has a new home in North Carolina......After the fact I was kinda bummed. He was a coondog that liked to be by himself with no fang and I was proud of him Saturday night showing him. 15-20 mph winds after we finally got some rain....thought it was going to be tough. Had 3 trees on 3 dumps all by himself. 1 den and the other 2 had the meat. Not too bad for not being ran hard since June.
So know on to finishing Rose and getting her sent back to Ryan. In the meantime, ol' Harry and I are going to have some heart to hearts. Time to put some serious time in. **** crazy tree dogs.
Take care all

can't seem to find the big one yet, but we'll stay at it.Been hunting with Larry quite a bit lately getting his dog BIG JOHN ready for MO> Federation hunt this weekend. Boater has been looking really good but the two of them are walking us to death. One trees on one side of the county and the other trees on the other side, need a few of those easy ILL. coons down here. I really miss those square miles up there. this country is rough. My JOKER X KATE pup is nice, really like her ,she is going to be something special. Got alot of work to do this winter with the young dogs .Go to see my doctor thursday hope everything is good to go. If I could loose about 20 pounds I could maybe get around a little better. Well keep those young dogs in the woods and we'll talk to you later TOM

Randy is going to be out of commission in the coon dog world for quite awhile.

Finally glassed some nice head gears over the last week. Only a couple of shooters though....shooters for me anyways. If we get some rain and I mean significant amounts of rain the deer and coon hunting will be better. You walk to the stand now and it sounds like a freight train coming through.
Thanks Tom for hunting those young pups. I appreciate your help and insight a great deal. The Joker X Kate cross looks really really impressive and from what I hear from the other owners those pups are all doing great. So as of right now, it looks like a hell of a litter.
Went out last night and the night before and we slammed some coons. I have given up on the prarie ground since we haven't had a rain in 2 months thus, I've been sticking to the river bottoms. The coons are stacked down there. Made 3 trees..3 meat in 30-45 min with ol'Rose on Sunday night. Last night about the same with a den thrown in. Putting up Rose tonight and going to hunt some young dogs solo down there.
Just think Tom, ol' boater is just getting you in shape. He knows what he is doing.
Picking up a JokerXSmokey pup this week. Should be another good cross. Joe has some really good females across the river from me. Next year and this year in the hunts will be fun for the 2 of us.
Take care all and send some rain my way.

hunted with a couple strange dogs last night and BOATER looked like a total idiot. Oh well young dogs, he just do'es not want to tree with another dog if they beat him to the tree, will go out and mill around. Kinda makes me a little upset but he is just young I hope. If he trees first no problem he will be there no matter how long it takes . Quess I'll keep hunting him and see what happens. Are you doing any good bow hunting? They seem to be really slow around here, haven't seen the one I want yet. Not much to say so talk to you later TOM

Had a good night last night. Put a 3rd on Rose. She did just fine for my last hunt with her. Ryan is picking her up this week. All Ryan will have to do is put a another place on her.
Congrats to Joe T. and Dottie! He finished her out to Nite Ch last night.
gotta run
take care all

Mark and Joe

good job with those two dogs .Joe these JOKER x KATE pups are hard to believe, you talk about natural ,ANNIE is one of the nicest pups I have ever worked with , smart and willing to please can't beat it. We have been giving the tree rats a lot of grieve , ANNIE is one gamey little pup,she is farther a long than my fourteen month old. I will be coon hunting her by herself this winter, not bad for a five month old, she loves these hills and timber behind the house . She gets to go hunting every day now till deer season then we have to stay out of the woods during the day but we will start her at night on coons. Mark wish they would leave ROSIE there for you to finish. Have you seen any big deer yet ? They are'nt moving around here right now, but they will be soon I hope. Well have to go ANNIE is barking 7 oclock time for our squirel hunt. Talk to you later TOM

What's up randy? Ran dogs last night almost full moon. Coon was in about 5 different trees but scouty would locate then carry track on. After about twenty minutes scouty hit checked then rolled over. Did really nice job on that coon. Call me and come bring snoop doggy. Later chase

crazy chaser

what's up not hunting in the full moon ? Been hunting old BOATER in everything, he's been doing a good job most of the time . I would like to get up there soon and go hunting with you boys. Got two hunts here this weekend, don't know if I'll get my feet wet or not. Rode down to the federation hunt with boys last weekend .They didn't do any good but had alot of fun just hanging out. Now it is hard to bow hunt and coon hunt but six out of seven days is'nt bad , but getting tired. Got to go deer are waiting six o'clock talk at you later TOM

Posted by Pioneer on 10-26-2010 05:26 PM:

Finally got some rain....only .5 inch but I'll take it. Had lots of wind to. School had roof tore off, silo blew down, a couple of sheds hammered and several big limbs down. It'll slow the tracking down a couple nights but improve it after that I hope. However, doesn't look like much in the forcast for next couple weeks. Went out last night. Had a young dog do really well for the little experience he has and a yr old had a little trouble but he treed a couple just fine. The 25-30 mph winds didn't help. He is only getting better. Joe will have a really nice dog after all said and done for both of them.
Randy and I been discussing what is next on the dockett. We have several great young prospects that are doing above and beyond for 5-6 month old dogs. One treed one solo the other night....that is just not right. Ha Ha I'm taking another one out this week for her first actual "hunting" trip. She has been running and slammin' the tree on an unseen coon for a month. It will be neat to see what happens for a 6 month old.
Take care all,
Mark

Randy

This pup [5months old ] amasing for that age .She stood on her hind legs and winded a squirel today, treed her heart out . She will be the only dog I need . got to go training session TOM back from training PLAIN JANE me thinks has seen way to many cage coons ,don't know if I can turn her around. LITTLE ANNIE saw her first coon today, let it get a head start on her ,she ran and treed it like she has been doing it all her life .She is going to be hard tree dog .Seems that JOKER x KATE cross was one of the best I have ever seen. I know one thing mine is staying rite here if I have to hire someone to hunt her in the hunts next year. Joe they don't get any better, thanks again for the pup, you will hear more about her TOM

BOATER

Randy this young dog is coming in leaps and bounds .He gets in the country fast and makes it happen . This season will put the final touches on him and BUB says he'll put him in the hunts for me if I need him. Charlie has settled in now ,plan to hunt him and BOATER tonite. ANNIE is ready anytime you want to go 'I just can't say enough about that pup. One of the smartest pups I have been around and I have been around alot of them. Mark ,still hav'nt seen the right buck ,but they are moving alot more now. Just a matter of time till he comes around. Be glad when coon season comes in ,going to make alot of walkers suck wind with BOATER ,CHARLIE, ANNIE should be a fun season. SEE YOU ON DOWN THE ROAD TOM

Posted by Pioneer on 11-04-2010 04:57 PM:

Tom

Yeah I would definitely say you are going to have some this hunting season. Got one of all stages right there. It will be interesting to see what Charlie and Boater do together. Keep me posted. Its gonna be a riot.
Bucks are cruising the area pretty hard around here. It is time to get out and stick one. I've seen the one I want but gonna take a lot of luck to get to where he is at when conditions are right.

Looked at Roxie (Joker X Bobbie) and Hot Rod (Joker X Smokey) last night. I haven't seen or been around Roxie for awhile. She is gonna have a cannon. I like her energy. Can't wait.

Tom got your letter yet?

take care all

Where is the pup located? I would like to hunt with it...I hear time and time again about how 5 and 6month old pups consistently tree their own coon night in and night out alone! I hear it i've just never seen it
