I decided to send Roofus up the creek and take Phoebe back to the truck. We drove around where we could hear him well and waited. Soon, he struck, ran a short ways, located, and rolled it over. We drove around as close as we could, then I walked into him. He was treed on the other side of the creek but I found a ripple I could wade and got to him. He had the meat. Dog gone if I didn't hang that coon up in the tree.

I am not sure what I am going to do with him, my 40 acre coon dogs are more my style these days. But, I reckon there will be some nights sitting on the tailgate waiting for him to find one might be the way to go.

Randy, he seems to drift tracks out really quick. Sometimes, almost too quick. I don't see any trash problems or babbling but sometimes he is really quick on bad tracks. I hope it is for real, he would be a competition hunter's dream. I like him.

I win nearly every time when I compete with his mother, Mini. She has won 11 out of 15 casts. She is always split treed with the meat.

Junior, I would never hunt Roofus on bear, (he is already too valuable) but I am very confident he would sire great bear dog puppies. There are a number of bear hunters in West Virginia, maybe you should try to hook up with some of them. You would be glad you did.

I have video that will show Burp treeing a bear that other good bear dogs failed to get to the tree before he was one year old. I have video of Burp treeing a number of bear that other dogs failed to tree. I have video that shows a bear coming out of a tree, the Walkers and Plotts running away, and Burp and another Lakeland bred dog biting the bear and making him climb again with Burp holding on to the bear's butt as the bear climbs. I have video of Burp under approximately 150 different bears, maybe more. Burp is dead now but he is a legendary bear dog in Northern Wisconsin. He was out of Dual Grand Champion Postell's Totally Alsome (born in my back yard) and Grand Champion Lakeland's Kate. He was triple Buddy bred. Before you think Burp was a fluke, his littermate was Grand Nite Champion PKC Silver Champion (maybe Gold) Wolf's Big Man, the most winning dog out of Alsome, (that includes Rollin' Rock).

I am going to try to post some videos but there may be some technical problems.

Here is a video clip of Burp (around 12 months old) and Cisco (year and a half old) putting the bite on a bear and making him climb. Notice the other dogs out of other breeds running away from the bear, the 2 Lakeland bred dogs were biting the bear and made him climb. Cisco was hanging on as the bear climbed. The Burp pup was the one that actually got the bear to the first tree, the other dogs in the pack were lead into the tree. Then, the dogs were tied back, the bear came down, and the dogs were released to tree the bear again which is shown in this video.

Rocky, Champion Grand Nite Champion Rocky Run Sis is owned by Terry Goforth and Ryan Whitaker. Terry owns Sis's sire, Grand Nite Champion Rocky Run Bo. They recently bought Sis's littermate, Grand Champion Lakeland's Angel. Terry has had the sire's line of English for a long time. I know Bo and most of the dogs he is out of for a long, long time. That is why I bred Mini to Bo.

Some people have questioned Roofus' abilities

Here is a reacap of his wins to become Nite Champion... All of his wins were in Sectional hunts... He was intered in 5 hunts. I should have 10 place on saturday night @ South Eastern English Days but got screwed out of it but we won't get into that...

Here was the very 1st that he was ever hunted in and came away with a 1ST PLACE WIN & HIGHEST SCORING HOUND
03-20-2010.

GR CH'PR' MADDY GEES ROOFUS WINS 1ST PLACE @ TREEING WALKER SECTIONAL. 26 HOUNDS ENTERED. ROOFUS SHINED LIKE A MILLION DOLLARS THAT NIGHT. ROOFUS WON WITH 400+ POINTS HERE IS A RUN DOWN OF HIS SCORE 0 MINUS 225 CIRCLE 400 PLUS. ROOFUS SHOWED THE WALKERS HOW IT IS DONE!!!!!!

The 2nd and 3rd hunt was @ South Eastern English days We didn't do good on friday night. But we should have placed 10th place on sat night ...Our guide knows what happed...

The 4th hunt Roofus won 2nd place it was a Black and Tan Sectional 04-02-2010

Roofus wins again he won 2nd place with 250+ tonight at a Black and Tan Sectional in Princeton,WV. Roofus had 0 minus 150 deleted 525 circle 250+ points..

5TH HUNT Roofus won 3rd place with 175+w/22 hounds entered(English Sectional)... 04-10-2010

Roofus wins again making him a Nite Champion @ English Sectional hosted by the Tri-State Houndsman Association of Hedgeville, WV. We hunted in VA last night to earn a 3rd place win to become NTCH. Roofus' score was 0-minus 325 circle 175+. I am very proud to own him.. Not to many dogs can become a NTCH as easy as Roofus has. I entered him in 5 nite hunts actually winning 4 of them although 1 that didn't get handled properly.. Still 3 wins out of 5 hunts isn't bad. The one hunt was 2 nights.
3rd place win 175+w/22 hounds entered(English Sectional)... Now the real hunting begins I will do my best to finish him to a grand I will not stop entering him in the hunts unless something happens. Once again thanks to all that has followed this post and keep in mind this was my 8th trip to the woods with him.. How many guys can say that...

AKC 'PR' Maddy Gees Roofus
is now registered AKC. Roofus won his first AKC cast just no + points it was a 1 hour hunt we made two dens Roofus had 1st strike and 1st tree on the first drop. And a three way split on strike and Roofus had 1st tree although all dogs got split treed a plott female and a english female both pullled off their trees and backed Roofus on a den... Roofus' score was 425 Circle points. And Roofus also won SR Male Class: Class 5pts, Breed 10 pts, Show 25pts on the bench earning 40 points towards Show Champion. I will post pics later.

Wins his cast at the West Viriginia Governors Cup Hunt event in Point Pleasant WV just 75 points short of a 1st win making us take a 2nd place finish. My hats off to those guys of the MUD RIVER COON CLUB INC. we had a good smoothe hunt with 37 hounds entered making 6 reg cast, 3 ntch cast and 1 grntch cast. The guide put us on a hot coon on every drop. We just couldn't score every coon. Roofus had 125+ points, 575 circle points and 0 minus points...

Guys that want to Question Roofus

Call me and make an appointment and we'll go hunting...Yes make an appointment I usually work 6 days a week 10 hours a day so I don't make it to the woods as often as I would like to.

But do yourself a favor tighten your boots and be in your best of shape and bring a walking stick because I will promise you he will get deep quick...

I am not on here to bost or brag Roofus is a coon dog and I will hunt him against any hound out there. I won't be hunting with you to beat you. But if I do and Roofus beats you accept like a real man. I am not some slick handler I just hunt to be hunting not to win. Thanks JR

I hunted Roofus a lot. Roofus is a very good, honest COON DOG, that has all of the extras. I have owned and hunted with lots of Grand Nite Champions. I have certainly owned some very good ones and Roofus is comparable with the best. He was too much for this old has been but any young guy would love to hunt him.

As for the Nite Hunts, they can be proof of something but often, they are a lot less than they should be. I quit them years ago.
