That's a nice lookin' female in a lot of ways Richard...it sure makes it a lot easier to keep feeding them when they seem to keep moving forward...eh?
It is and has been dry as a bone up here...and now it's hot again
I'm glad you're able to get in the woods with those young dogs...we're just sort of standing still around here...waiting for things to change.

Cooler weather...
Every day that goes by is a day closer to fall and the best time of the entire year. I'll be looking forward to seeing you guys and if Wendell can make it, that's great, we've got room for him for sure. I finally invested in one of those nice air mattresses so finding a space to sleep got a lot easier...eh?
It has been hot around here but not so bad like it was even just a few weeks ago. We're seeing upper 80s but down in the 50s at night most of the time.
These last few days have been real warm and most of next week will be the same but then a cool down...
We'll have the dogs rockin' and rollin' but that time but we'll leave a few coons around so you guys can at least tree one or two...

I'll be up this Sat. to pickup Squirrel if you're going to be around. I'm guessing around noon.

Funny
I was out on a tractor fun run for kid's a few week's back. There was 110 tractor's at $10.00 a pop. This help supports children facing serious illnesses. Had a great time.
Next year I will be pulling a wagon with kid's and hound's T-TOP style.

Good fun...
That's good fun for the right reasons Buck...it's all good when we can do something to help folks who really need it and what a great way to enjoy the process while raising money for the right reasons...That looks like it was a good time.
T-Top hounds...kids...a good cause...it's all good Buck.

A Buck for a Buck for Kids. Now how can you beat that? That was a great idea. Good Job Old Buddy Buck. T-Top Reds Are My Reds Of Choice Too. Dave
HOT!
It's gonna get HOT again up around here...the next couple of days are supposed to be in the low to mid 90s again...that sucks!
I'm looking forward to cooler days and nights and it seems harder and harder to be patient and wait the closer and closer we get.
Hey Dave...I am so happy to hear that the value of a good man is still recognized and rewarded at places across this great land. Hard work, dedication, honesty, experience and integrity aren't common traits anymore but when they are so abundant in one man, I think it's great that folks recognize it and do something to show their appreciation.
I'm glad that the folks you work with and for, recognize the value of a good man like I recognize the value of a good friend.

Trophies
I was just going to look for the truck with all the trophies around it and then I rememberd Dave,Buck, and Pastor Mike weren't hunting. I know Richard usually hang around the crew. Dave
Squirrel is all settled in. I put her with JJ. I locked them up in the kennel last night and let them out this morning. When I left, squirrel was running around on the ground. Figured I'd work with her on the ramp when I got back. Get back, she all ready has it figured out. She's running up and down it like an old pro. Looks like JJ likes her also. That's a first and a bonus.
You were right Tom. Squirrel's a SMART one..

My good buddy Dave, Woofy is alive and well. She is running around in my back yard with all of the other mongrels/misfits and seems to be having a good time. I came crawling home from AO with my tail tucked between my legs, no trophies and no pictures. I sure did have fun, though. Those Indiana coons know that I was there.
AO
At least you made it back in once piece...eh?
The weather up here is scheduled to change this week and we're hoping for a good dose of rain around Wednesday so that we can get off to a good start as we start getting these hounds...and us...back in shape.
It's kind of interesting to see how the dogs change their mannerisms as the nights get cool...they hear a door open and close and they're all at the gate with their ears up and tails wagging.
I'm glad to hear that the Red dogs did some good at AO, it's a sign of new times to come for sure.
I'm looking forward to getting rolling again so hopefully the dogs won't get a wild hair and cross two ridges before slowing down enough to find and treeing a coon...you know how it is when dogs haven't been out for a long time
I'm looking forward to a new season and lots of action so I hope everyone is ready to put new batteries in the cameras and get ready to get some good shots.

Richard
Richard I was glad to see you as always and glad you had a good time and got home save. Your Friend, Dave
First night out this year
I took Gun for a hunt close to home tonight. He hasn't been out since last fall so all things considered, he did a good enough job tonight.
This first track was pretty cool...I drove up in the field across from the house and parked up along the line fence. I led him down the field road for a ways and cut him loose. He went maybe 50 yards and struck...he didn't say much but then opened up more back towards where I had the truck parked. The dogs at home were only maybe 100 yards away from where I parked so they were all going nuts. Gun ran it good and then located and rolled it over. I walked back towards him and he was treed about 20 feet from the truck right off the old gate where the road used to cut through the fence line.
Gun...first tree made.
I praised him up good but didn't give him the coon...I was so close to home I thought it would only make the other dogs more crazy.
I let him go again further down the field road and he struck just before the corn field ended at the woods. He bailed into the corn field and got hung up on the fence but soon got off it and circled around and back into the woods. He went in maybe 40 yards, located and treed.
Gun...second tree made.
I took him on down the woods road and cut him again. He went all the way down around the pond and over the dam. He struck maybe 200 yards down the ditch and ran it out into a really bad weed patch with timber laid down from making the road. He got through it and treed on the last big tree before the next field...
Gun...third tree made..
He only got to taste one of the three coons he treed but it was enough by the looks of it.
I let him go one more time and he got out into a swampy creek bottom and started pecking away at a cold track. I walked all the way back to the truck and drove back down to the road and to the bottom where he was messing around. When I got about half way down, the Garmin said he was treed...I got down and he was treed but it was in a huge brush pile along the drain ditch between two fields. It was enough for me so I loaded him up and headed home.
He was rusty as heck and stumbled around a bit..making a couple of those tracks seem harder than they were but...I guess I can't complain too much considering that he got three coons on the wood.
Next time out, Yank and Dagger will get the work...that should be exciting to see...Dagger is turning into a nice hound in a lot of ways.
I know one thing for sure after hunting tonight...I can't wait for frost so the weed thickets get burned off and flattened out and so the leaves get off the trees...I really don't much like it this time of year but...we gotta get these dogs in shape for the hide season and now is the time to start.
I know that it takes several times out before dogs that are laid up for awhile, get back in the right kind of shape. Even though Gun treed 3 coons tonight...I could tell he wasn't the same dog that he was last fall.
I'm glad to be back at it and I look forward to some good nights while getting these hounds back into shape.

Tim
Priceless!!!
That kind of video is priceless Tim...the old boy isn't gray...he's white but still waggin' his tail and enjoying every moment by the looks of it.

Gun
Tom, Gun is sure a nice looking hound with great tree style. Cherry will be ready Wed. or Thursday. When young dogs or any age dog is laid up it takes a few times out to get back on their game. I even need a few times out to get going any more. Dave
Big weekend in VA. Summer a Moose pup won two best female of shows making her a show champ at 9 months old.
Autumn a Spook pup won two towards GCH and placed 2nd in the nite hunt treeing the only coon seen.
