Last night

Dave came out and loaded up the dogs and headed out...this morning, he had a couple of real nice coons out by the kennel...

Two big boys...

This was a big ol' coon...look at the size of that foot...

The coon in the front of that picture was 31.5 pounds and the other was 22 pounds. It has been an amazing season thus far, for harvesting these jumbo coons...I think we're up to 5 coons now that were over 30 pounds.

Our deer season is coming on Nov 17 so we'll hope to get a few more for the freezer before then because the weather here can change real quick after Thanksgiving so...we'll see how it shapes up.

We're real happy with Yank and Gun and the pups that we have now are also looking real nice...it's always good to have something on the back burner...eh?

Pups...

We are expecting pups from a proven cross and they should be on the ground by around the third week in November...either side of November 20 is what we're anticipating.

I don't have as much information on Cherry's pedigree as I'd like to have but I think this pretty much provides a good picture of how these pups are put together.

This is a proven cross and although I think these kinds of crosses are worth investing in...I understand that it's not always so easy to put dollars together these days so the price is $250 for either sex and picked up here.

Tom, you should have been in Virginia this weekend. There were Rabble offspring tied up everywhere. Buck and Pastor Mike have some nice pictures.

Posted by JJWI on 11-12-2012 03:12 PM:

Having a good season in central Wisconsin also. Leaving a lot of small coon go. Let the daughter shoot a bigger kit the other night that the fur looked pretty decent on. Here is my female off of Rabble and Val. This is a 28 lb sow I got the other night. It's canine teeth were worn down flat with the molars! Nice coon. Had an awesome night last night, too bad they all ran back to dens and machine sheds! The last one, Lacey got on the ridge, struck and had a awesome race, went 200 yards out in the creek bottom, hooked straight back towards us and went right back in to the den tree, not 15 yards from were she started that track! My son looks at me and says "that coon must be part rabbit Dad!" I told him next time, he has to stand in front of that den and keep that coon from getting in there! He didn't agree! lol

It was good talking to you again...it has been a long time since you picked up that female pup...I had almost forgotten how long it was. She has grown into a nice hound.

It was great to hear how your kids are enjoying the process of hunting coons with dogs...it gets in the blood for sure and hopefully it will make for a lot of good times for you all to share for a long time to come...some day you'll be able to haul them around and you can stand on the road and enjoy it even more

I often wish we had been able to make that cross between Rabble and Val a time or two more, it turned out some nice hounds that seem to get the job done where ever they are located across the country.

Thanks for updating me and stay in touch...Cherry is getting big so I'm guessing we'll see a good litter and then we'll hope they all do well all the way through.

Good stuff Dave and Richard...there's a lot of Ace back in the pedigrees of a lot of good hounds and if we keep it close and work hard to focus on the traits that we can live with and enjoy, we should be able to keep it rising to the top for a long time to come. Most times, old blood is lost in 3 generations or so unless it's continuously doubled and tripled over time. Anyway, we've got a good mix all across the country and with the strength of breeding that we've done, there is a lot of that blood still up close and available for us all.

Cherry pups

Hey Tom i would be interested in one of those if their not all spoke for. The darkest female i can get, im kind of partial to the dark ones.Give me a shout when you got time. By the way those young dogs look awful good to me.

Thanks Tim

Here is a couple of Rabble grandpups from tonight.

Posted by topdog on 11-14-2012 12:04 PM:

Pups

Hey Richard...those youngsters are looking good. The hardest part is waiting for them to get older and to mature into adult hounds but it sure makes it fun when they are willing to participate and get up on the wood like that at a young age.

Tim...we'll fix you up if we're lucky enough to get what you're looking for from the litter. It's getting close so within a week or two, we should know what they'll look like. I saw that video of those nice Rebel pups that you have there...they are some good looking and good acting young dogs and full of potential for sure...looking at them...I can see that you have a real preference for those dark hounds...they fit the description pretty well...eh?

Hey Wendell...I didn't think you got any pictures while we were hunting when you guys were here but I see you got a good one of ol' Yank. He's doing good and is enjoying some nights of rest but after deer hunting, we're going to give them some good work again.

We're all gearing up for deer hunting around here so the dogs will get some rest for a week or so. It has been cold the last few mornings, right around 20 but the outlook is that it's going to be pretty nice through the rest of this week and at least through the first weekend of deer hunting. We're going to enjoy it and then, if the weather holds, we'll be back at it and see what we can get done until the snow gets too deep and it gets too cold to navigatae.

More to come...

Mon. night JJ put up 3 coon. 5 tree's total. 3 singles a den and for what ever reason, another grinner. There was no doubt about it this time. It was the fourth tree. I walked in and there it was. Just hanging about 10 feet up. I suspected walking in because of the rather loowwwwwww bushes. Had shocker in hand. Scooped her up off her feet, whipped and fried her all at the same time. Dropped her and she straight lined it out of there. 1000 yards later, garmin showed her treed. DEN!!! We had a serious talk on the way out. Took yesterday off to let us both cool down. OK more me then her.
Tonight. She was on top of her game. 6 coon. 5 singles
and a ground coon. Thats what I'm talking about.. Get R Dun.

Mon.

Tonight

Ground coon. Sorry about the vid. quality. I was to busy watching the coon. What a mouth a Squirrel. Just like her momma Leinie..

Took the kids out one last time before the orange army shut down. First coon, Lacey tracked out of the creek bottom, caught in the crp field, and it got away from her when we walked in. She ran it back to the woods and treed it on the creek bottom. Took some pics of that one. Second drop she got her nose to the wind, dropped in to the creek bottom and located for a couple of minutes and fell treed. Walked in and she was sitting down looking up upwind, found the coon in a hard maple curled up in a crotch of a limb. Batteries went dead on the camera. Hopefully these temps stay mild so we can get out after gun season. But a night to remember!

Re: Re: Good stuff...

Now for you Wendal.

LMAO. A guy shoots one ot two exta shells at a coon. I mean one or two extra clips at a coon.
The wagons not for shells. I use it to roll all them coon out Bubba.. One wagon full at a time.

I have an extra one for you and Samantha.
[/B][/QUOTE]

Oh I get it you haul the wagon in full of ammo to haul out the coons after you empty the wagon shooting pretty nifty and oh and by the way it looks to me like you got some house cats in the wagon and that's what I would call and open spotted walker in the second

Here is the hide, all stretched and fleshed out. I know why those coons weigh 30 lbs now. It had 25 lbs of fat on it. That is a 48 in X 48 in piece of plywood that it is nailed to and I had to turn it diagonally.

Noticed the neighbors were gone. So I did some drag training with Squirrel. Look at that muscle tone on her. Looks really familiar.

Looks good

She's looking like a happy camper...gotta love that expression.

She's got good structure and I'd guess it will serve her well down the road...eh?

It was in the 50s today...heck of a deal for the first day of gun deer hunting. I'm not complaining but walking even a little ways will wear you out when it's that warm.

Dave's son Chase is a good coon hunter but he's also got a knack for bagging deer. He got a nice doe during youth season and this morning at 8:30 AM...he bagged this dandy.

Nice job Chase, you're a regular buck slayer for sure....
